Man Utd handed transfer blow as James Maddison says he is ‘keen to build on our achievements last season’ with Leicester

JAMES MADDISON announced he is “keen to build on our achievements last season” with Leicester.
It comes as a hint he is ready to commit his long-term future with the Foxes following prior transfer interest from Manchester United.

James Maddison is ‘keen to build on our achievements last season’ with Leicester
Maddison said: “Fixture release day is one of the highlights of the season for me.
“It gives the whole squad a real buzz and you can feel the excitement ahead of the first game.
“We’re in for another really exciting year as a club, especially with European football coming back to the King Power Stadium.
“So we’re all keen to build on our achievements last season and give our supporters plenty to cheer about in 2020-21.”

Maddison will play in the Europa League this term after Leicester finished fifth last season.
But in a massive coup for Brendan Rodgers, the attacking midfielder signed a new deal BEFORE United and Chelsea pipped the Foxes to a top four finish.
SunSport revealed Maddison agreed to a double-your-money deal at at the King Power.

The 23-year-old committed himself to the club until 2025.

The England international will earn around £95,000 a week including bonuses.
That package makes him one of Leicester’s highest-paid players behind top-earner Jamie Vardy, who is on around £120,000 a week.

Man Utd still planning to have safe standing at Old Trafford next season for 1,500 fans despite coronavirus KO fears

MANCHESTER UNITED are still planning to introduce safe-standing at Old Trafford – even with a reduced capacity next season.
The Red Devils were given special permission in April to become the first Premier League club to trial the new area.

    2

The initial plan was to install 1,500 barrier seats to allow supporters to either sit or stand in the north-east corner of the stadium.
There had been fears the coronavirus pandemic could have put an end to it though, with worries over social distancing.
But United are still keen to introduce the trial, even with fans only allowed back at a reduced amount.
It is expected supporters will be in the section during the first half of next season, and before the Christmas period.

If the trial is successful, SunSport understands the club are already looking into extending that to other parts of the ground.
There has been huge demand and calls for safe standing for a number of years, after it was banned.
However, they do NOT want the whole of Old Trafford to have it, with family sections remaining as they are.

The Red Devils are busy preparing to have fans back in October, with around 30 per cent capacity being talked about.

United spent the lockdown period making renovations to Old Trafford, including a new area for disabled fans.
Safe standing was introduced into English football after the Hillsborough disaster and subsequent Taylor Report. More

Man Utd wages revealed with Dean Henderson set to earn same amount as Bruno Fernandes after signing new contract

DEAN HENDERSON is set to receive a bumper new contract – earning him the same amount as midfield star Bruno Fernandes.
SunSport revealed Henderson, 23, is on the verge of signing a mega new four-year Old Trafford deal worth £100,000 a week.

    2

The England goalkeeper only signed a new £60k-a-week deal last year and this new deal is a clear sign Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants him to battle David De Gea for the No1 jersey.
His improved contract will also come with the option of a further 12 months, which can be activated at any time.
It also means United would be splashing out £550k a week just on their goalkeepers, with Spaniard De Gea earning £350k, Sergio Romero (£70k) and Lee Grant (£30k).
Henderson would equal winter signings Fernandes and Odion Ighalo as the club’s 11th highest paid players.

Mason Greenwood also received a pay rise during his breakthrough into the first team, having being offered £40,000-a-week.
It was revealed last season United had by far the biggest wage bill in the Premier League – paying more than double the division’s average.
The Old Trafford side paid out a staggering £352million on salaries – both players and other staff – during the course of the 2018/19 campaign.

That equated to a wages-to-revenue ratio of 56 per cent, as the club took in a total of £627m across the year.

In the previous season, 2017/18, United’s wage bill stood at £296m while revenue was £590m meaning the ratio was 50 per cent.
Last season 11 United stars earned more than £100,000 a week or more.

Man Utd new boy Marc Jurado holds record for fastest ever youth goal scored for Barcelona at just FIVE seconds

HE’S no slouch, that’s for sure.
Manchester United are on the verge of announcing the exciting signing of Marc Jurado, 16, from Barcelona in a deal reported to be worth £1.5million.

Jurado confirmed the move on Instagram, and is believed to be waiting for international clearance before United announce the deal themselves.
The Catalans will be sad to see him go, after it was said they offered the galloping right back a three-year contract, which he snubbed.
And Red Devils fans will be licking their lips at this clip of the incredible talent scoring the fastest recorded youth goal ever – just five seconds after kick off!
Meet the talent that could become a star at Old Trafford.

    QUICK OFF THE MARK
Back in 2013, in a game against Viladecans, Jurado made a statement for Barcelona’s U10 side.
From kick off, the electric defender was switched on to intercept a pass, before racing past two players and cooly slotting the ball past the keeper.
Not only did it get people talking about him, the strike earned him a place in the record books.
Jurado’s goal was the fastest ever recorded at youth level – an impressive five seconds.

    WHO IS HE?
Jurado was born in Sabadell, some 18 miles from Barcelona, in Catalunya.
He showed promise playing for his local team, CFU Can Rull before he joined La Masia at the tender age of seven.
Jurado was considered an important part of Barcelona’s future, and after tying down Ansu Fati and Ilaix Moriba to long-term contracts their hierarchy were hopeful Jurado would follow suit.
But, it is believed that he feels he would have a better chance of first team football playing for United.

WHAT KIND OF PLAYER IS HE?
A modern full-back in the Spanish mould of Bellerin, Jurado does his best work going forward.
Blessed with bags of pace, he constantly looks to overlap and provide an attacking threat on the right-hand side.
He was one of the best players in Barcelona’s Cadet A team this season, and it was expected that he was going to promoted to their Juvenil B side.
    HE’S GOT COMPETITION
As good as Jurado is, he can’t expect to walk straight into United’s team anytime soon.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 22, has made the right back position his own since arriving from Crystal Palace in a £50million deal, and will take some shifting.
However, Jurado will offer the England defender the healthy competition for places that every good side needs.
And in a few years, we might just see a United team dominating again – like they did in the 90s and noughties.

Harry Maguire admits Man Utd defence were at fault for Sevilla winner… but insists ‘best team lost’

HARRY MAGUIRE admitted the Manchester United defence were to blame for Sevilla’s winner as they were KO’d from the Europa League.
But the £85million skipper insisted the “best team lost” on the night as the Red Devils wasted a hatful of chances to book a spot in the final.

    1

Luuk de Jong’s 78th-minute winner left United all at sea at the back with neither Maguire, Victor Lindelof or Aaron Wan-Bissaka picking up the super sub.
It was United’s THIRD semi-final defeat in the 2019-20 season after crashing out at the same stage of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
It is now the first time in 30 years United have gone three consecutive seasons WITHOUT a trophy.
And Maguire had to face the music after the game as his hopes of lifting the Europa League crumbled before him with the 2-1 defeat in Cologne.

He told BT Sport: “It’s difficult. The boys are devastated.
“We created numerous chances. The best team lost.
“They punished us for missing chances. They didn’t make many chances to be honest.
“We conceded from two crosses which is not good enough.

“We worked our socks off and deserved to win and get through.
“We fell short in a semi-final for the third time this year.
“We have a good group of lads. Losing is not acceptable. Getting to semi-finals isn’t acceptable.
“Improvement made this year is massive. We played a good Sevilla team – another day we win it. Losing is not acceptable for this club.”
The former Leicester City man was pressed on when United will finally win silverware – their last trophy coming three years ago when Jose Mourinho led them to Europa League glory.

Maguire added: “It’ll happen soon. We want to win it as soon as possible.
“If we take another giant step next season we’ll improve again. Tonight we turned up and the best team lost.
“Perhaps that bit of inexperience cost us – we shouldn’t have conceded that second goal.”

Man Utd player ratings: Brandon Williams, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof all at sea as United European dream ends

MANCHESTER UNITED lost their third semi-final of the season as Sevilla dumped them out of the Europa League.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with their 22ND penalty of the season.

Luuk de Jong scored the winnerCredit: AFP
Ex-Liverpool man Suso caught United napping – after Chelsea transfer target Sergio Reguilon burst through on the left – to level things up in Cologne.
And super sub Luuk de Jong took advantage of hapless defending from the Red Devils to tap in the winner in the 78th minute to seal a 2-1 win.
Here’s how SunSport’s Josh Graham rated the United performances.
    David De Gea – 5/10
Looked sharp early on and nothing he could do for Suso’s goal.

Outshone by his busier opposite number Bono…not always a bad thing – but badly let down by his defence tonight.
    Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4
Tricky assignment up against the overlapping left-back Reguilon – who showed why he is attracting plenty of interest.
And sure enough Wan-Bissaka was left in no man’s land for the Sevilla equaliser with Reguilon providing the assist.
Struggled without much help and too quick to dive in off his feet, has to track back with Luuk de Jong for the winner.

    Victor Lindelof – 3

    7

Barely noticed the Swede in the first 45.
Inexcusably nowhere near marking the only man in the box for Sevilla’s second goal.
Let Jesus Navas’ cross float idly by him as United’s European dream crashed and burned.
    Harry Maguire – 5
Penalised unfairly for a terrific towering header before the break.
Demanded his team bring home the trophy pre-game and saw his dreams of lifting the cup shattered by dodgy defending, himself included.
    Brandon Williams – 3

    7

Brandon Williams clutches his face on the floor in CologneCredit: AFP
Rash studs-up challenge earned him a first-half booking and left him putting in half-arsed tackles wary of being given his marching orders.
Woefully caught out way in-field as Suso lingered at the back post for Sevilla’s equaliser.
Embarrassed himself by rolling around clutching his face when there was nothing in a collision with Youssef En-Nesyri.
    Shoddy display.
    Fred – 6
Missed a great early chance to make it 2-0 on his weaker right foot.
Worked well with Paul Pogba in the engine room but became less influential as the game went on.
    Paul Pogba – 7
Passionate display embodied by his wide-eyed remonstrations with the ref after Sevilla equalised.
Beautiful ball to Marcus Rashford right at the end of the first period – could easily have had a number of assists.
    Bruno Fernandes – 8

    7

Stand and deliver or hop, skip and jump – it doesn’t matter.
The trademark technique returned tonight but the end result is seemingly always the same, Bruno Fernandes is ruthless from the spot – EIGHT penalties scored now.
United’s heartbeat and talisman was bundled over by Diego Carlos but the officials decided it wasn’t worthy of a 23rd penalty this season for United and he could have volleyed in a second on the cusp of half-time.
Still pulled the strings in the second half – showed his distaste for Lindelof’s defending by launching a verbal tirade at his centre-back.
    Mason Greenwood – 6
Always plenty of endeavour from the talented youngster going forward.
But could have done more to help Wan-Bissaka with Sevilla rampant down the left.
Super touch gave him a great chance to score immediately after the break as Fernandes set him free only to be denied by the keeper.
    Marcus Rashford – 6
Electric pace in the box was too much for the Sevilla defence who clipped him for the early penalty.
Fed off scraps until Pogba set him free but the nation’s sweetheart got his feet in a right tangle in the last action of the first half.
Frustration showed when he hurled the ball into the ground after being denied a throw and got himself a yellow card for his trouble.
    Anthony Martial – 7

    7

A gorgeous no-look flick pass into Marcus Rashford helped the Red Devils win yet ANOTHER penalty.
Not afraid to throw his weight about trying to hold the ball up for his team.
Silky feet made him unplayable at times after the break – Sevilla’s shot-stopper Bono became his nemesis.
Missed chances came back to haunt his side.

Man Utd captain Harry Maguire encouraged by ‘promising’ season – but demands Europa League trophy after £85m transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED skipper Harry Maguire demanded his side bring home the Europa League trophy after a “promising” season.
The England star joined from Leicester over the summer in a huge deal worth £85million.

And the centre-back was quickly installed as Red Devils skipper after showing outstanding leadership potential.
United’s good form in the latter part of the Premier League season – boosted by the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January – saw Maguire steer them to a third-placed finish.
But it is a piece of silverware that would really crown a successful first campaign.
And United can put themselves 90 minutes away from a European trophy if they see off Sevilla in tonight’s Europa League semi-final.

Ahead of the big game, Maguire said: “I joined this club to win trophies.
“I fully expect to win trophies while I’m at this club.
“Getting to semi-finals isn’t good enough for this club.
“It’s been a promising year in the Premier League, we’ve finished third.

“It’s not something that this club wants to do, finish third, but at the start of the season from where we were last year, I’m sure a lot of people would have taken that.
“But, for the future, that’s not where we want to be. We want to be winning trophies, the Premier League and other cups.
“So semi-finals are nice to get to, but you’ve really got to get the job done and make the final and then go on to win it.”

Maguire watched on as United crashed out of both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage this season.
And the former Foxes ace will hope it is third time lucky for his side as they bid to reach the Europa League final in Cologne.
The club have not won a trophy since Jose Mourinho led them to glory in the very same competition in 2017.

Bruno Fernandes deviated from his usual hopping penalty technique to strike from the spot in extra time against Copenhagen in the quarter-final to seal United’s progression.
The Portuguese midfielder’s effort saw the Red Devils scrape into the last four despite the best efforts of hero keeper Karl-Johan Johnsson who made 13 saves.
Sevilla dumped Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves out of the competition courtesy of a late goal from Lucas Ocampos and tonight’s winners will play either Inter Milan or Shaktar Donetsk for the title.
