The news was confirmed by international manager Didier Deschamps in a press conference, who has brought in 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga as one of his replacements.
He said: “I’ve completed at the very last minute a change in the list, because Paul Pogba, who was previously on the list, unfortunately for him he carried out a test yesterday which was returned as positive this morning.
“So at the last moment he had to be replaced by Eduardo Camavinga.”

As the World Cup holders prepare to play Sweden and Croatia, United wished their record singing a speedy recovery.

A statement read: “Pogba has been replaced in the squad after testing positive for Covid-19.
“The midfielder will be unable to add to his 69 caps and 10 goals for his country in the games next month.
“Everybody at United wishes Paul a speedy recovery ahead of the new season.”

Pogba was this pictured having dinner with pregnant partner wife Maria Zulay Salaues in London days before the positive test.
But he will now be required to self isolate.
Barcelona this month confirmed incoming signing Miralem Pjanic had tested positive for the virus.

The new Premier League season is set to get underway on September 12 – eight weeks after the last was finished following an unprecedented extension.
Players are now returning to pre-season, having had time off for a short break.
But The Telegraph reported club officials fear cases could continue to rise after players partied together on holiday with pals from rival clubs in the past few weeks.
Chelsea have Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Christian Pulisic quarantined amid a Covid-19 outbreak at Chelsea.
All four went on holiday to the Greek island of Mykonos before pre-season training began last weekend.
After the Premier League restarted in June, players and staff members were following strict coronavirus guidelines and tested twice a week.

But they were since been released by clubs to enjoy time off during the short gap until the new term gets underway.
All top-flight clubs have undergone testing since returning to training and anyone to have tested positive will have to self-isolate for at least seven days.
Players are expected to be tested only once a week when the new season starts – half of what was required after the restart in June.

Five clubs Lionel Messi could join including Man Utd, City and Chelsea after handing in Barcelona transfer request

LIONEL MESSI is on the verge of quitting Barcelona after requesting to leave his boyhood club.
The 33-year-old Nou Camp legend demanded Barca exercise a clause in his contract that would allow him to quit for nothing with immediate effect.

    4

But the Spanish giants believe the stipulation expired expired on June 10, with the Argentine superstar under contract until the summer of 2021.
Club and player seem set for a legal battle over the clause, with Barcelona believing his €700m (£629m) buy-out clause is still valid.
And with wages totalling £1.15m per week – it leaves very few teams capable of facilitating a move for Messi – here SunSport list five possible options.
    MANCHESTER CITY
Since Pep Guardiola – who managed Messi for four seasons – took over at the Etihad in 2016, he has spent £700m on transfers.

It indicates they have the backing to pull off a mega-money transfer for Messi, despite escaping a Financial Fair Play penalty this year.
Acccording to Radio Catalunya, Messi has already spoken to Guardiola about a move to Manchester.
And having grown frustrated throughout last season, reuniting with a familiar face could convince the forward to choose City.

    PSG
The French champions, like City, seem to have no limits when it comes to the transfer market.
Having already broke the record when they signed Neymar for £198m from Barca three years ago, PSG are not afraid to role the dice and break the bank.
It has been claimed Messi is open to linking up with strike partner Neymar again, with the Ligue 1 kings desperate to win the Champions League.
But Messi’s £64m-a-year basic wages could prove to be a problem even for PSG, who pay £33m to Neymar and £19m to Kylian Mbappe every season.

    4

It has been claimed Messi is open to linking up with strike partner Neymar again
    MANCHESTER UNITED
United have reportedly not wasted any time in making contact with Messi’s representatives regarding a transfer.
That is despite the fact they have so far failed to stump up the cash for Jadon Sancho – who Borussia Dortmund value at £108m.
Messi is also said to prefer a move to Manchester rivals City or PSG over United.
But SPORT, say Old Trafford bosses are confident they have the funds to pursue the sensation move.

    4

    CHELSEA
The Blues looked disinterested in tempting Messi to London – until Rio Ferdinand tweeted news that Frank Lampard was in for the Argentine.
Chelsea last season completed deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and have carried over the spending to this season.
They are close to wrapping up transfers for Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell – while also testing the market for a keeper.
Making a swoop for Messi at this time seems unlikely, even if they do raise funds from money made by flogging unwanted flops.

    INTER MILAN
Throughout Messi’s Barca turmoil this year, Serie A giants Inter Milan are understood to have been monitoring the situation
Their former owner Massimo Moratti even revealed the club will plan to prize the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to Italy.
Inter have the backing of Chinese chairman Steven Zhang, son of billionaire Zhang Jindong.
Messi’s dad is also believed to have a home in Milan, fuelling speculation his son could be plotting a switch to the San Siro.

Man Utd ‘in contact with Lionel Messi camp over transfer’ as Barcelona see them as one of two clubs who could sign him

MANCHESTER UNITED have made contact with Lionel Messi over a transfer, Spanish reports claim.
It comes after Messi stunned the Nou Camp hierarchy by handing in a transfer request to leave the club.

    1

Man Utd have reportedly made contact with Lionel Messi over a transfer

According to SPORT, United and PSG have made a move for the unsettled 33-year-old.
It is claimed Old Trafford chiefs have been in touch with Messi’s representatives, and believe they have the financial capability to pull off the sensational transfer.
That is despite so far failing to agree terms with Borussia Dortmund over Jadon Sancho, who they value at £108million.
Despite the report, is is understood Messi would favour a reunion with former team-mate Neymar at PSG – who won Ligue 1 last season but lost to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

The French champions are desperate to finally become European kings and believe signing the Argentine would set them on their way to doing so.
Elsewhere City boss Pep Guardiola – who managed Messi for four seasons in Spain – is said to have contacted him about a move to Manchester.
They, along with Inter Milan, are understood to have been monitoring his situation as he grew ever frustrated with the Spanish giants last season.

Inter have the backing of Chinese chairman Steven Zhang, son of billionaire Zhang Jindong.

Messi put in place plans to leave after sending a fax to Barca on Tuesday.
The Nou Camp icon demanded he exercise a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for free with immediate effect.
But the ex-LaLiga kings believe the clause has in fact expired, with the superstar under contract until the summer of 2021.
Club and player seem set for a legal battle, with Barcelona believing the stipulation expired on June 10 and that a €700m (£629m) buy-out clause is still valid.
That would leave very limited buyers financially capable of facilitating a transfer for Messi.
Messi and his team will argue an extension on his clause should be granted as the coronavirus pandemic delayed and extended the season into July and August.
The Barca board will meet immediately with president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s resignation believed to be the only thing that could see Messi have a change of heart.
Even if he is able to depart for nothing, his basic wages per week totals at £1.15m, creating a tremendous stumbling bloke for any potential suitor.

Bruno Fernandes warns Man Utd’s rivals he can be even more lethal next season after flying start in Prem

BRUNO FERNANDES warned Manchester United’s Premier League rivals he can get even better next season.
The Portuguese midfielder arrived at Old Trafford in January for £55million from Sporting and changed the course of United’s season.

    1

The 25-year-old smashed home eight goals and laid on seven assists in just 14 league appearances as the Red Devils soared into third spot.
Fernandes also buried eight penalties as he became a master from the spot with Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s side awarded a record 22 pens.
But he thinks his stats can get even more impressive next year.
    Fernandes told Uefa.com: “I don’t have a secret.

“I think that I train a lot, I like to train a lot. I always pay attention to what the goalkeepers are doing – how they position themselves, how they best prevent shots on goal.
“Based on that, based on the match, and based on how I’m feeling on the pitch, I decide how to take a penalty.
“I don’t have a specific technique in taking penalties. There’s no certain run-up I take, I just stick to what I feel is most comfortable.
“If I change it every so often, it might make the goalkeeper uncertain.

“I change my run-up for how I’m feeling during the match, or how I feel the goalkeeper [will move].”

Manchester United were awarded a whopping 22 penalties during the 2019/20 season
Fernandes has quickly become a Premier League superstar and hopes to propel United further forward next campaign after three semi-final defeats in 2019-20.
He added: “It’s instinct. Over the years, because of the position in which I was playing, I developed my ability to move around and look forward.
“When we lose the ball, I try to be the first one to react and to call on the other attacking players to help out in winning back possession.

“And obviously for me, to be able to build up the play, to have the ball and provide passes to my team-mates to enable them to score goals – it’s very important.
“I think that’s what I need to do a bit more because, yes, I’ve provided some assists but I could have provided more, given the quality we have up front.
“I believe I can improve on my numbers given the quality we have up front.”

Cristiano Ronaldo to rival old Man Utd team-mates by opening new luxury hotel in Manchester as part of growing empire

CRISTIANO RONALDO is planning to rival his old United team-mates by opening a new luxury hotel in Manchester.
The Old Trafford favourite, 35, has teamed up with Portuguese hotelier Pestana to launch the proposed ‘high-end lifestyle hotel’.

It is due to open in 2023, subject to planning permission.
And it will be the seventh of the chain’s ‘CR7’ branded hotels – named after the Portuguese captain’s initials and shirt number.
The hotel group announced: “It couldn’t be more appropriate – after all, this is the city where Cristiano Ronaldo started his international career in Man United back in 2003 and where he first used number 7.”
Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs – who both played with Ronaldo – own two hotels together in Manchester.

Manager Andrea Pirlo only pockets £1.6million-per-year after taking charge of the club
They first launched their successful ‘Hotel Football’ in the shadow of Old Trafford in 2015.
They also bought The Grade II-listed Stock Exchange eight years ago for £1.5million but invested around £20m on renovating it for it’s 2019 opening.
But both were closed this summer and offered out to NHS staff amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Ronaldo on the other hand already has hotel sites in his hometown of Funchal in Madeira and in Lisbon.

More openings are expected to be on the way in New York, Madrid, Marrakech and Paris.

But his new hotel in the Spanish capital has been put on hold due to the global crisis.
The planned grand opening of the Pestana CR7 Gran Via was scheduled for June.
But financial newspaper Invertia report on that being delayed due to the lockdown across the country drawing a halt to construction work.

The feud between Sir Alex Ferguson and Roy Keane at Man Utd erupted over Portugal holiday and MUTV interview

SIR ALEX FERGUSON and Roy Keane.
Two of the biggest and most dominant personalities in British football.

The pair once enjoyed a hugely successful relationship, winning 12 major trophies together at Manchester UnitedCredit: AFP – Getty
Working together led to major success.
Seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League, including all three in the Treble-winning 1998/99 season.
But when they fell out, things got nasty.
The result was Keane leaving Old Trafford, having his contract terminated in November 2005.

And they are no closer to patching up their differences.
So why do Sir Alex and Keano not see eye to eye?
    VILLA-FIED IN PORTUGAL
It all started during a pre-season summer camp in Portugal.
Fergie’s loyal assistant Carlos Queiroz had arranged the villas – but Keane felt the one he was in was too small for him and his family, with five kids.

So when Ferguson arrived from his summer holiday, he had to deal with Keane wanting to move, rejecting three different villas.
Here’s how Fergie recalls it in his autobiography: “All the staff and players were nicely ensconced in their villas.
“But bad news awaited me. Carlos was having a nightmare with Roy.
“According to Carlos, Roy had rejected the first house because one of the rooms lacked air conditioning.
“The second threw up a similar problem. The third, which I saw, was a fantastic house. Roy wouldn’t take it.
“He wanted to stay in the next village, Quinta do Lago, with his family.”
    Unsurprisingly, Keane saw things differently.
He said: “I knew I was there for pre-season training, but it was my wife and children’s holiday.
“But I think Carlos might have felt a bit put out; he wasn’t happy.

Ferguson made a big fuss about what had happened, started ranting and raving in the dressing room after the first training session. ‘What is the big deal?’ I said. I just thought it was an overreaction.
    Roy Keane

“I looked around the place and I told her, ‘I’ve got five kids. This is too small.’
“There were three bedrooms, and there was a plunge pool, which I thought was dangerous; we had five children, and the oldest was ten. I just wasn’t comfortable with it.
“The woman brought me to look at a second villa; my wife was waiting down at the first place with the kids.
“The second place was nicer but, in the meantime, I’d rung the people we’d just hired the previous villa from, where we’d been staying the week before, and I asked if we could stay there for another week.
“I knew that this would be going back to the manager.”
It did indeed get back to Ferguson, who pulled Keane aside after training.
According to the boss, he told Keane the houses were fine but “Roy erupted, issuing a long list of complaints, which included the air conditioning” before turning it on Queiroz.
Ferguson concluded: “It placed a strain on his relationship with us.”
Again, Keane did not quite have the same version of events.
He described the fall-out: “He made a big fuss about what had happened, started ranting and raving in the dressing room after the first training session.
“‘What is the big deal?’ I said. I just thought it was an overreaction.”
The pair then stopped talking – Keane blames Fergie for the silent treatment, Fergie blames Keane for becoming reclusive.
    And the fuse was lit…
    THAT MUTV INTERVIEW
The general practice at Manchester United sees a player give their reaction to in-house TV channel MUTV once or twice a year.
Due to an injury, Keane missed the game he was supposed to do and therefore spoke to the channel after the infamous 4-1 defeat away at Middlesbrough in October 2005.
And Keane – who did not play in the match – then had his say and was rather scathing about his team-mates. It was so bad, the club pulled the interview from airing.
The midfielder said: “I was disappointed with the players. But it was MUTV; it’s the in-house channel, propaganda for the club. All the top clubs have channels like it.
“I was annoyed, I remember, but I wasn’t edgy about it. The idea that I was in the studio, ranting and raving – no, it was quite calculated. The message was, we weren’t good enough and we could do better.
“At the back of my mind part of me was thinking, ‘What did I say in the video? I might have said something pretty bad, for them to pull it.’ And even now – today – people still say, ‘This video had to be destroyed.’ Like it was a nuclear weapon or something.
“Did someone drive out to the countryside and bury it in the f***ing ground? Or did a bomb-disposal unit come and explode it? It had to be destroyed!”
Keane labelled Kieran Richardson a “lazy defender”, couldn’t understand “why people in Scotland rave about Darren Fletcher”, called out Edwin van der Sar and speaking of Rio Ferdinand, said: “Just because you’re paid £120,000-a-week and play well for 20 minutes against Tottenham, you think you’re a superstar.”

Between them, the pair decided the players should be shown the interview – with captain Keane present – to see if anyone had a problem. Van der Sar did, saying Keane was out of order – it all descended into a major row.
At the launch of his autobiography, Sir Alex had his say on the interview.
He said: “Roy overstepped his mark, absolutely overstepped his mark.
“That’s the sort of personality he has. For some reason he decided to criticise his team-mates. He did it in a MUTV show but we couldn’t release that video.
“A few days later a few of the younger players were booed as a result of what he’d said. So we decided we had to do something.
“The meeting we had in that room was horrendous. But I just couldn’t lose the control of that situation.
“If I had let it pass, the players would have looked at me differently, much differently.
“I think it’s clear that I had to show I was strong enough to deal with issues like that.
“Roy absolutely overstepped the line. There was nothing else we could do.”
He added on the ensuing argument with the Irishman: “What I noticed about him that day as I was arguing with him was that his eyes started to narrow, almost to wee black beads. It was frightening to watch. And I’m from Glasgow.”
    SACKED & SORRY
With Ferguson feeling he had to take action, the club fined Keane £5,000, something the player disagreed with.
But as well as the fine, Sir Alex knew he had to get rid of his midfielder.
He explained: “I think Roy realised he was coming to the end of his playing career and was starting to think he was the manager. He was assuming managerial responsibilities, and, of course, it’s not a managerial responsibility to go on Manchester United television and slaughter your team-mates.
“The one thing I could never allow was loss of control, because control was my only saviour. As with David Beckham, I knew the minute a football player started trying to run the club, we would all be finished.”

    4

The Red Devils’ 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough led to a scathing Roy Keane interview with MUTVCredit: PA:Press Association

Keane admitted after receiving the “hand grenade” that he was being axed, he could not hold it all in.
He revealed: “I got into my car and drove out of the training ground. I pulled over just outside and cried for a couple of minutes. I just thought, ‘It’s over.'”
Cash-flow problems at United during that time meant the club couldn’t pay Keane the full money owed immediately.
And relations remarkably took an upward turn.
Keane said: “When the paperwork had finally been sorted and I’d given back the car – this was three months after the last meeting, so I got an extra three months out of it.
“I drove some miles in that car; every little victory is vital – I went to see the manager and Carlos, and I apologised. But now I kind of wish I hadn’t.
“I just wanted to do the right thing. I was apologising for what had happened – that it had happened. But I wasn’t apologising for my behaviour or stance. There’s a difference. I had nothing to apologise for.”
    STILL NOT SORTED
An agreement was made on the day Keane was axed that no one would talk about the incident publicly.
But according to Fergie, Keane broke that pact.
Sir Alex said: “I would have honoured that agreement, but for the fact that Roy breached it first. When Roy was at Sunderland he accused United of insulting him and lying to him in the build-up to his departure.
“The club considered legal action against him. Roy said he would not retract the accusation. My feeling was that he was looking for a day in court to impress the fans.
“He was still a hero to them, after all. So my advice to David Gill was to pull the legal action. I feel we preserved our dignity.”
    PETER PAN FRIED
In his autobiography, Ferguson had another pop at Keane – both as a player and a manager.
He said he “failed” as Sunderland boss and “came up short” at Ipswich – the Irishman won 70 out of 181 games in charge across the two spells at a win rate of just 38 per cent.
And with the combative midfielder coming towards the end of his career in that doomed 2005/06 season, the gaffer was keen to get every last drop out of his man.
Ferguson wanted him to continue to influence matches and play a deep-lying midfielder role.
But it wasn’t going to work. Keane refused to grow up and adapt.
Fergie brutally wrote: “He thought he was Peter Pan. No one is.”
    REIGNITED
With both men going into detail in their autobiographies, Keane then reignited the fuse when he appeared on Off The Ball with former team-mate Gary Neville this week.
The Ireland international hit out again at Ferguson, arguing against Sir Alex’s claim he always did what was best for the club in his 26 years at Old Trafford.
Keane also questioned why Fergie’s son Darren and brother Martin were involved at the club before joking he was surprised Ferguson didn’t give his wife a job.
He said: “Ferguson came out afterwards and said he always did what was best by Manchester United. Nonsense.
“His son Darren played for the club and won a league medal, very lucky. His brother was the chief scout for Manchester United for a long time.

I wouldn’t forgive Ferguson… People talk about Ferguson’s man-management, don’t be kidded on by all of it.
    Roy Keane

“I’m surprised his wife wasn’t involved in the staff somewhere.
“Darren was [the manager] at Preston North End and lost his job. He had a couple of young players on loan from Manchester United. Guess what happens the next day? They’re pulled out of Preston. Is that doing the best for Manchester United? Do me a favour.”
Keane then brought into question the legitimacy of Sir Alex’s man-management reputation.
He added: “I wouldn’t forgive Ferguson. The media spin, how I apparently upset everybody, it was all nonsense.
“People talk about Ferguson’s man-management, don’t be kidded on by all of it.
“I was at the club when Bryan Robson left, when Steve Bruce left, two brilliant servants for Manchester United. And I didn’t like the way they were treated.”

    WHAT NEXT?
Whether Ferguson allows himself to get dragged back into the feud seems unlikely, though. After all, he said what he wanted to say in his book and left it at that.
But no doubt that will not be the last time Roy Keane criticises Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson.
The former captain may well still have some things to say – and he won’t be afraid to do so.

The amazing rise of Harry Maguire, from being England’s World Cup hero to Man Utd captain and dating a beautiful Wag

HARRY MAGUIRE has come a long way since dreaming of football stardom in Yorkshire.
The Sheffield-born star has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the game – which culminated in his record-breaking move to Manchester United last summer, and becoming Red Devils captain.

Maguire, 27, is still the world’s most expensive defender following an £80million move from Leicester City, after his World Cup heroics with England.
But he’s got himself in bother in Mykonos on holiday with his beautiful Wag, Fern Hawkins.
The 6ft 4in centre half was arrested after am alleged bust-up with cops on the Greek Island.
    THE MAKING OF THE MAN
Maguire fulfilled a childhood dream by playing for Sheffield United between 2011-14, where he came through their youth system.

In his first full season, he helped the Blades into the playoffs as they attempted to gain promotion from League One.
He was named both their Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year during a remarkable nine month spell.
It was inevitable a move to a bigger club was on the cards, and in 2014 Steve Bruce made Maguire a Premier League player snapping him up for Hull City £2.5million.
Despite the East Yorkshire club’s relegation, Leicester City were convinced that Maguire had quality to succeed at the top-level and splashed £17million on him.

His commitment to the Foxes’ cause – he played every game of the 2017-18 campaign – earned him the Players’ Player of the Season, as well as Fans’ Player of the Year in his first season.

And he became an England international, making his debut for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions in a 1-0 win away at Lithuania in the last group game of the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.
    THE WORLD STAGE
When Maguire was named in Southgate’s squad for the World Cup in Russia, it’s fair to say he wasn’t a household name on the global stage.
But when the tournament was over, he was the best centre half on show.
He became England’s hero – first assisting Harry Kane’s winner against Tunisia in the opening game.
Then, ‘Slabhead’, as he affectionately became nicknamed because of his large forehead, got his bonce on an Ashley Young cross to set England on their way to a 2-0 win over Sweden in the quarter-final.
His play was lauded. Not only was he a man who could defend bravely and put his body on the line.
Maguire was also an assured reader of the game and comfortable bringing the ball out of defence and kick-starting England’s attacks from the back.
After England’s semi-final exit, Maguire returned back home a hero.
It was a matter of time before the big clubs came calling.

    RED DEVIL
    Every player has their price.
But Maguire could never have imagined how desperately Manchester United wanted him to be the linchpin of their side.
In what was one of the longest running transfer sagas of the summer of 2019, he finally became a United player with record-breaking transfer fee for a defender.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer parted with an astonishing £80million to make Maguire their man – eclipsing the £75million rivals Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk.
“When Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity,” Maguire revealed.
Five months into his six-year deal Solskjaer officially made him his captain – replacing the departing Ashley Young, who he had deputised for.
“He’s come in and been a leader in the group,” the Norwegian boss said.
“I’ve been, not surprised, but I’ve been impressed by his leadership skills, so Harry will keep on wearing the armband.”

    GENEROUS LEADER
While the world was in lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic, Maguire knew he had to step up to the plate.
    He led as a captain.
Maguire asked his fellow professionals to dig deep into their pockets and donate 30 per cent of their hefty wages to charity.
The Players Together fund was created, generating an incredible £4million to the NHS.
The donations were handed over to NHS staff, volunteers and coronavirus patients to tackle the UK’s worst national health crisis in a generation.
That act of kindness led to players around the world taking note and doing their bit.
He had done as a leader should.

    BEHIND EVERY GREAT MAN…
Gorgeous Fern Hawkins has been by Maguire’s side during his epic rise.
Like Harry she’s from Sheffield, and they met in 2011 – before he became a global superstar.

In 2018, romantic Maguire whisked Fern to Paris where he got down on one knee and proposed.
Later that year she was seen at the World Cup flashing a sparkling diamond ring, while supporting her beau in an England shirt cheering the Three Lions on from the stands.
The pair, who have two daughters – Lillie and Piper – were seen enjoying their holiday in Mykonos before his arrest.

And it appeared the Gunners moved into pole position to sign the 22-year-old and even agreed a five-year contract with Mikel Areta’s side.
But despite reports Gabriel competed a medical after Lille accepted Arsenal’s £22million bid – Manchester United look to have hijacked the move.
It is understood United have bid for the Brazilian, causing him to consider his next step.
According to The Telegraph, following interest from Old Trafford, Gabriel is “more than happy to wait before making a final decision”.

Gabriel was believed to have given himself the weekend to think things over, but that suggestion has now been quashed.
United could now indeed be in the driving seat now as they can offer higher wages than Arsenal.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will also be playing in next season’s Champions League.
Arsenal thought they had a deal done after seeing off interest from Napoli.

But Arteta could be forced to look elsewhere following United’s game-changing move.
