Bruno Fernandes gives shocked reaction after finding out he will captain Man Utd for first time against PSG

BRUNO FERNANDES was captured giving a shocked reaction after finding out he will captain Manchester United for first time against PSG.
With regular skipper Harry Maguire not travelling for the Champions League game, Fernandes will take the armband.

    2

Fernandes will receive the armband with Harry Maguire out

And he appeared surprised when finding out the news in the pre-match press conference next to his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Fernandes said: “I was not expecting this, for me it’s an honour to be captain of Manchester United.
“It is an important achievement for me but I think everyone is the captain, everyone needs to help and be a leader in their own way, leadership is different in every player.
“The game will not be about me but the team but leading is every day on the training ground, every game and everyone is doing their job to lead the team in the way they think is best.”

The midfielder has been the most vocal player at the club since the day he arrived and will feel even more empowered as captain.
Fernandes was even filmed having a go at Alex Telles during a game of keep ball in a light training session before the squad flew off to Paris.
His demands are high and even Roy Keane would approve.

Fernandes will not be tamed either because he says it is just how he is made.

He added: “I think I grew up like this. It’s the way I have to be in life and in football too. It’s my character.
“Sometimes it’s too much and sometimes other players are less. I think I can help the team with the way I am.
“All the players are driven and you need all of the different characters in the team to complete a very good team.
“I think it’s important, the way I am, to complete the others, and it’s important the qualities the others have, to complete me.”

Watch Bruno Fernandes shout at Alex Telles for not passing ball quick enough as Man Utd fans call him ‘captain material’

BRUNO FERNANDES has been hailed as ‘captain material’ after footage emerged of him shouting at Alex Telles for not passing fast enough.
The midfielder, 26, transformed United’s midfielder after signing from Sporting Lisbon last January and is set to skipper Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for the first time against Paris Saint-Germain this week.

And fans reckon he is the perfect man for the job after a clip showed Fernandes criticising new left-back Telles, 27, in training.
It came after Telles – who arrived from Porto this summer – was intercepted in a passing drill, which Fernandes took exception to.
The pair were former league rivals in Portugal.
But United fans were full of praise for Fernandes as he took leadership on the training ground.

One said: “Bruno Fernandes is 100% captain material. Losing his cool with Alex Telles for not moving the ball on quickly enough.
“These are the levels we need!”
Another said: “Doesn’t matter if he gets the armband. Guys influence is visible.
“He has a winner mentality and anyone that fails to get on the level will just be dropped.”

The team-mates were training ahead of United’s opening Champions League group stage qualifier.
But they will face French champions PSG without new striker Cavani and regular captain Harry Maguire.
Cavani has only just become available to play following his two-week self-isolation period after travelling to England and has been left behind to work on his fitness.
Solskjaer started Maguire for the game at Newcastle – with the England defender even getting on the scoresheet.
But with the ex-Leicester ace clearly desperate for a breather, he has been left at home for the PSG game.

Wenger hits back at Mourinho saying their relationship is ‘like Kindergarten’ as fallout over book omission continues

ARSENE WENGER said his relationship with Joe Mourinho is ‘like Kindergarten’ as their fallout continues.
Wenger’s autobiography, My Life in Red and White, was released this month, a little over two years since the 70-year-old left Arsenal after 22 years in charge.

But the Gunners legend left out any inclusion of rival Mourinho because he wanted it to be a ‘positive book’.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager responded by insisting his omission in Wenger’s memoirs was ‘because he never beat me’.
But Wenger hit back, as he told Canal+: “It doesn’t bother me. It is permanent provocation.
“I feel like I’m in kindergarten with him. But, that’s part of his personality.

“It’s wrong, we beat him twice. We won, and there were also a lot of draws. And it is not ‘you’ who wins, you only participate in the victory.
“It is ‘us’ who win. The manager is there to get the most out of a team.”
Sir Alex Ferguson, Mesut Ozil and Ashley Cole, among others, are discussed in Wenger’s book, as he reflects on his long and successful life in football.
But Mourinho, his great adversary, does not warrant even a passing mention.

When asked about his absence in the autobiography, the Tottenham boss said: “[It’s] because he never beat me.
“You are not going to do a chapter about 14 matches that you never win so why should he speak about me in a book.
“A book is a thing to make you happy, make you proud.
“So I understand perfectly the situation.”

Man Utd eye Federico Valverde transfer as Real Madrid midfielder starts to fulfil potential

MANCHESTER UNITED have put Real Madrid’s Uruguay superstar Federico Valverde on their hit-list.
The midfield magician has pushed his way into the Spanish side’s team this season and started to justify his big reputation.

Valverde, 22, has been tipped for the top for years but is slowly proving his quality in LaLiga — and long-term admirers United are on red alert.
And with Paul Pogba openly admitting he likes the idea of a move to Real Madrid in the future, United are keeping an eye on Valverde in case a swap becomes possible.
Valverde has a £640MILLION buyout clause, which shows how much Real think of him.
It would be unusual for United to sign a player from a major European rival at his age but Pogba could be a very intriguing pawn in the game.

Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had confirmed the club triggered the one-year extension in Pogba’s contract.
His deal was up at the end of this season with no announcement that the club had taken up the opportunity to extend it by a further year.
Solskjaer said: “Paul’s our player, he’s going to be here for another two years and sure he’s focused on doing his best for us and we want to see the best from Paul and I’m sure in the next couple of years we’ll get the best out of him.”
Just last week the Frenchman once again flirted with Real, who he said it would be a ‘dream’ to play for.

Pogba said: “Yes, all footballers would like to play for Real Madrid.
“Maybe it is a dream. It is a dream for me, why not one day? As I have said, I am at Manchester United and I like my club.
“I am performing at Manchester United, I am enjoying myself and I want to do everything I can to get the club back to where it deserves to be.
“I am going to give my maximum, like my teammates. I prefer to concentrate on football and on returning to fitness.”

Man Utd sources think Bruno Fernandes is ‘getting too big for his boots’ after dressing room rant and Spanish links

SOURCES at Manchester United think Bruno Fernandes is ‘getting too big for his boots’, according to reports.
Fernandes was said to be furious at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to substitute him at half-time in the Red Devils’ 6-1 defeat to Tottenham a fortnight ago, and reportedly took some of his frustration out on his United teammates.

    1

Bruno Fernandes has reportedly ‘ruffled some feathers’ in the United dressing room

And according to the Independent, some people at the club have taken issue with the midfielder’s attitude.
Fernandes, 26, is thought to have become a vocal figure in the United dressing room since his £54million move from Sporting Lisbon in January.
He won the club’s player of the year award for last term after his mid-season arrival inspired United to a third-placed finish in the Premier League.

While United have officially denied any talk of a bust-up between Fernandes and Solskjaer, the way he spoke to his teammates at half-time against Spurs appears to have ruffled some feathers.

Those rumours have led to Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid monitoring Fernandes’ situation.
SunSport exclusively revealed that the LaLiga sides could look to tempt United’s No18 away from Old Trafford.
The Portugal international moved to deny reports of a rift within the United camp following his country’s 3-0 win over Sweden Wednesday.
He said: “There’s been a lot of speculation about that.

“First it was a discussion with team-mates, as it did not stick, it was a discussion with only one team-mate [Victor Lindelof], as it did not stick now, it is the discussion with Solskjaer.

“I believe it is a way to destabilise the group. What was said is in no way true.
“I was replaced at half-time, it is true, by technical option. The coach told me that the game was almost over and that we would have a lot of games ahead of us.
“Got it. I was not satisfied but said nothing that could harm the group.
“Do not use my name, my colleagues or the coach to make trouble at Manchester United.
“The atmosphere is good and the team is ready to give an answer in the next game.”

Man Utd’s worst signings XI post-Sir Alex, including Fred, Di Maria and Depay that cost an amazing £325m

SIR ALEX FERGUSON left Manchester United with the Premier League trophy – but a raft of bad signings has seen it taken away with little sign of returning.
A massive £323.7million has been splashed on 11 particularly dodgy deals.

The worst XI of bad signings predominantly features attackers as the Red Devils failed to replace the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
Romelu Lukaku cost an initial £75m and United struggled to find takers when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to offload the Belgian in the summer – where he has since thrived.
A promising first season was lost with a drop-off in 2018-19, scoring at an average of one every three games before leaving for Inter Milan.

At the very least, Lukaku provided some memorable moments but the same cannot be said for Angel Di Maria.
The winger arrived with much fanfare in 2014 and quickly dropped off the pace, shepherded out to Paris Saint-Germain where he painfully found the form he lacked in England.
The next expensive error was Fred who joined for £52m, but he still has time to prove himself at Old Trafford.
In the slightly more affordable but nonetheless useless category are Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Morgan Schneiderlin, who came in for £30m and £27m respectively.

Depay inherited the hallowed No7 shirt but failed to do it justiceCredit: PA:Empics Sport
Still, United recouped most of the fee they spent on French anchor man Schneiderlin when he joined Everton but Mkhitaryan’s exit saw Alexis Sanchez arrive – making the Chilean’s initial fee cheap and yet still a huge disappointment.
Among those who arrived with potential and waited until after leaving to go on to great things is Memphis Depay.
Now a star at Lyon and with the Dutch national team, his baffling form in the 2015/16 season showed that United had lost their touch when turning young gems into superstars.
Many United fans point to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward as the chief architect of these abysmal deals.
While replacing the peerless David Gill was a tough assignment, and finding a man capable of replacing Fergie nigh-on impossible, there are serious questions over his approach.
Not only are these players examples of bad deals, managers such as Jose Mourinho were dismayed that not enough players were bought.
Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind were picked up in 2014 off the back of good World Cup campaigns – a strategy that rarely pays off and cost the club over £30m.
And although Matteo Darmian was an Italian international when plucked from Torino, Louis van Gaal’s exit cast him to the fringes.
Rounding off this worst XI are two short-term signings that never got to grips with the Premier League.

Falcao struggled both at United and ChelseaCredit: PA:Empics Sport

Perhaps the Red Devils thought they were pulling off a cunning piece of Andrea Pirlo-esque business when bringing in Bastian Schweinsteiger but, at 31, the German was far past his best during an 18-month spell.
Radamel Falcao was still in his late-20s when arriving on loan in 2014 on a £6m fee and massive wage combination yet hit just four goals in 29 games.
Of course, not all of Fergie’s signings hit the right note – just ask Kleberson, Eric Djemba Djemba or Juan-Sebastian Veron.

Man Utd include under-fire Harry Maguire in squad for trip to Newcastle despite ‘injury’ – as Alex Telles also travels

HARRY MAGUIRE IS in Manchester United’s squad for Newcastle despite an injury scare and his recent horror form – with new boy Alex Telles also included.
Maguire, 27, was a doubt after picking up a knock before he was sent off for England in the 1-0 loss to Denmark on Wednesday in the Nations League.

But the United skipper has been included, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The centre-back was sent for an early bath after picking up two bookings in the space of 31 first-half minutes.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate publicly backed the under-fire £85million man.

But many – including Old Trafford legend Rio Ferdinand – called for the former Leicester man to be taken out of the firing line.

But Norwegian Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has kept the faith – despite a dire display in the 6-1 hammering by Spurs last time out.
New boy Telles, 27, is in the playing strength for the first time since a £15.3m move from Porto
The left-back could make his debut by replacing Luke Shaw in the starting XI.
Solskjaer had previously insisted Maguire would only miss the game through injury.

Solskjaer said: “When Harry beats No1 ranked Belgium it’s a normal day, and you get the headlines when you get a sending off, that’s football, ups and downs, and you have to deal with it.
“Harry has got great resilience, he knows he’ll bounce back and he wants to play and work his way out of the last couple of games when he’s been criticised.
“He picked up a knock just before he came off. We’ll have a look at him.”

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney in line for Derby manager job as Rams chiefs lose patience with Phillip Cocu

WAYNE ROONEY is in line to become Derby boss — and may even be in charge by the start of next week.
The Rams face Watford on Friday night and another defeat could spell the end for under-fire Phillip Cocu.

Ironically, sources insist boss Cocu was only saved from the chop before the international break by Rooney’s late winner at Norwich a fortnight ago.
Yet he is still on the brink, and owner Mel Morris plans to turn to skipper Rooney, 34, if they lose against the  Hornets.
With England’s all-time leading scorer still to get all his FA badges, it means he will need an experienced, fully-qualified coach alongside him — and him — and former Rams manager John Gregory is the man they want.
Rooney joined Derby  as player-coach on an 18-month contract — with a further one-year option — when he returned from playing for DC United America in August 2019.

He began his coaching badges within months and admitted he first thought of a post-playing career in management when he was still at Manchester United.
Rooney insisted he always planned to become a boss one day, and revealed on arriving at Championship club Derby: “I’ve always been interested in it.
“When Louis van Gaal was manager at United, Ryan Giggs was analysing the opponents and I used to go in there for a few hours after training.”
Dutchman Cocu replaced Frank Lampard when he moved on to take the Chelsea job in July 2019, but missed out on the play-offs in a disappointing first season.

This campaign has been even worse, and after needing penalties to see off League Two new boys Barrow in the League Cup, Derby lost the next four games before Rooney’s late Carrow Road winner.
Mike Phelan, currently on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom team at Old Trafford, had also been mentioned as a possible No 2 to Rooney.
Yet Gregory, 66, who was manager for 12 months before he was sacked in 2003, is  favourite.
He is available after leaving Chennaiyin FC, a year after he led them to the Indian Super League title two years ago.
