JOHN TERRY once revealed his dad was so furious he snubbed Manchester United for Chelsea that he refused to join him on the pitch as he signed his first contract.Terry, who had been playing for West Ham at youth level up until the age of 14, had the choice of joining the Blues, United or Arsenal.

But after falling in love with Chelsea, the legendary defender defied his dad’s wishes and refused a United contract.
Now Aston Villa assistant manager Terry told the Footballer’s Guide to Football podcast in June 2020: “My dad never wanted me to sign for Chelsea.
“Actually, on the pitch of me signing my schoolboy form at the club, my dad refused to go on the pitch with me.
“I’m in the tunnel, the players are coming off the pitch and I’m waiting in the tunnel, Glenn Hoddle goes past and my dad’s going, ‘You’re not signing for this football club, we should sign for Man United’.
“Again, me being me at the time I’m going, ‘I’m 100 per cent I’m signing here, if you don’t come out with me I’m going out to sign’.
“And you needed a parent, so my mum said she would come and sign it with me, my dad’s going mad at my mum, ‘No you wont’.
My dad never wanted me to sign for Chelsea. Actually, on the pitch of me signing my schoolboy form at the club, my dad refused to go on the pitch with me.John Terry
“There’s a picture of my mum and Graham Rix signing my contract, but my dad refused and absolutely kicked off that night. Again, me being the character I was, I knew Chelsea was right for me.
“One night that was probably supposed to be one of the best nights of my life turned out to be a tough one for a young 14-year-old to be honest.”
Terry’s instinct to sign for Chelsea paid off, as he went on to win five Premier League titles and FA Cup’s as well as lifting the Champions League in 2012 before leaving the club in 2017.
But the legendary centre-back revealed he did come close to joining rivals United, and even visited the club several times over a year with David Beckham.
Terry said: “I actually went up to Man United for a year, so I was kind of travelling up in school holidays, I went up with David Beckham when he signed his first pro contract.
“We went up in the car together, I was there on a two-week training camp.

“I went up, stayed up for a couple weeks every school holiday really on my own, which was tough to be fair, being away from home.
“Then I had the option between Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United and to be fair all of them went above and beyond.
“The moment I walked into Chelsea, it just felt right, I know that’s going to sound really bizarre.”

SunSport understands Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is a huge fan of the Three Lions wideman.
The German wants to focus on having a strong finish to the season before eyeing transfers.
But Stamford Bridge chiefs are then expected to make a serious move for the former Manchester City academy kid.
Sancho is a boyhood Blues fan and it is believed he wants a return to the UK to be closer to family and friends.
The London-born ace hopes to be in England’s Euros squad.
Dortmund are banking on him having a good tournament to push his transfer fee up to around the £100m mark.

According to Manchester Evening News, United are prioritising the signing of a top centre-back to partner up with Harry Maguire in the heart of defence next season.
Real Madrid star Raphael Varane and Villarreal ace Pau Torres top the Red Devils’ wish list, but Dutch star Botman has also been monitored in recent months.
The Ajax academy graduate, 21, admits he has always dreamed about playing in the Premier League but insists he remains focused at Lille.
Botman told The Athletic: “It is a good compliment when you hear these clubs are interested.
“I’m lying if I say it’s not interesting me — it’s the first time such big clubs are linked to me — but it was early days because in January I was only at Lille for half a season.

“It was nice to hear but I was focusing on Lille and I’m still doing this. After the season I will enjoy a vacation and see what happens next.
“If I’m honest, the Premier League is one of the leagues I dreamed about… but also Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga. The Premier League is something special. It’s the football I really like and that fits me.
“The style of play, the emotion; I really like to see the fans with such big emotions in the stands. It is a beautiful competition I really like to watch and did for pretty much all my life.

“I’m not the kind of guy who is already planning for the future. How it’s going with me now, I hope to someday make a good step to a top competition or a big club; that’s my goal.
“But I’m good at the moment with Lille. I’m really enjoying this year, I’m enjoying playing a lot. I learn a lot and I still have to improve a lot. I’m not complaining about my situation right now, I’m happy at the moment.
“For my ambitions, yes, of course I want to achieve as much as possible. I hope to make a big, beautiful step for me. We’ll have to see in the future if that is possible or not.”

Man Utd enter transfer race for £52m-rated Sporting Lisbon defender Nuno Mendes who has same agent as Bruno Fernandes

Manchester City had been linked with a move for Mendes but SunSport understands there is no interest from them.
Mendes has made a huge impact in his first full season at the club, making 30 appearances so far to help them end a 19-year wait to win the title.
United have sounded out if a deal might be possible through his agent Miguel Pinho — who also represents Bruno Fernandes.
The left-back, who can also play as a left midfielder, joined Sporting’s youth squad in 2012 from Despertar.

And ever since his senior call-up last year, Mendes has amassed a total of 44 appearances for the club.

The youngster’s performances have been so impressive that he even earned an international call-up by Portugal manager Fernando Santos in March.
United seem set for a busy summer transfer window as they are keeping tabs on long-term target Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils have also been linked with Sancho’ Borussia Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland, but a deal for the England international appears to be a lot more feasible.

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand admits fact he never won FA Cup ‘grates’ despite his incredible trophy haul

RIO FERDINAND revealed his regret at never winning the FA Cup and admitted: ‘It still grates’. The Manchester United legend won six Premier League titles, two League Cups and one Champions League during his time at Old Trafford.
Rio Ferdinand revealed his regret at never winning the FA Cup
“Sitting here looking at the trophy, I want to launch it!””You just want the ground to swallow you up, it’s terrible.”@rioferdy5 never tasted glory in an #EmiratesFACup final…And it’s clear the feeling of getting so close still hurts. pic.twitter.com/yvtHLo8N2e— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) May 15, 2021

But he never once lifted the oldest prize in the book, losing in finals against Arsenal in 2005 and Chelsea in 2007.
In the latter loss Didier Drogba’s extra-time winner meant Ferdinand had to settle for a silver medal, and he still struggles with it.
He said on BT Sport during yesterday’s final: “It still grates, definitely. I’m sitting here looking at it (the trophy) and I want to launch it.
“They were bad moments. I was lucky enough to win quite a lot of stuff in my career.
“But I tell you, I probably spend more time even in retirement thinking about not getting my hands on that trophy.”
Chelsea, eight times FA Cup winners, were beaten in successive finals at Wembley as Youri Tielemans’ stunner saw Leicester win 1-0.
The midfielder arrowed one in from long range to sublimely decide the final, but Ferdinand argued Jorginho’s lack of pace made it too easy.
He said: “This is one area I don’t like in his game is that he can’t get across the ground. He should be the one getting across there [to stop Tielemans].

“He shouldn’t be pointing at a defender to get out [to Tielemans], if Thiago [Silva] goes there he leaves the space and [Jamie] Vardy’s in.”
Chelsea legend Joe Cole, who won two FA Cups, said: “There are holes in this game and that’s one of them.
“He knew he didn’t have the legs to get there, so he’s trying to dictate to people around him.
“There will always be frailties. I’m not worried about in the week when he gave the ball away [for Arsenal’s goal] because that’s very rare, but that happens a lot in his game.
“I think now Thomas Tuchel when he’s thinking about the Champions League final, you can’t leave Phil Foden or Riyad Mahrez in that situation, you’ve got to get out there.
“I don’t want to take anything away from the strike, but from a Chelsea performance and a defensive perspective, if you’re playing that role, first and foremost before anything you do with the ball you’ve got to stop that from happening, and he didn’t do that tonight.
“Tuchel’s got a big decision, not only Tuesday night [against Leicester] but in the Champions League final.
“Jorginho’s a fabulous player on the ball but there are holes in his game.”

Man Utd midfielder Fred called up by Brazil for first time in three YEARS for World Cup Qualifiers

MANCHESTER UNITED ace Fred has earned his first international call-up by Brazil in three years. The midfielder has been recalled by the Selecao manager Tite for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.
Manchester United star Fred has been recalled for international duty with Brazil
The 28-year-old hasn’t featured for his country since October 2018 when he played for 45 minutes against Saudi Arabia.
However, the former Shakhtar Donetsk star has become a regular in United’s midfield under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and convinced Tite of his potential.
Fred took to Twitter after the announcement that he will get to add to the 11 caps he has won with Brazil.
He said: “Great joy to represent my country again. Always proud to be summoned. Let’s go again!”
The Brazilian has become so essential at Old Trafford that he has already amassed 119 appearances ever since his £52million move in 2018.

His performances have led to tremendous praise by Red Devils manager Solskjaer who knew he just needed some time after a rough start in Manchester.
The United boss previously said: “When I came he was a boy that was struggling a bit. The numerous questions I got about Fred in press conferences then!
“As I said then, players coming into a new country, it takes time to settle and it took some time for Fred to settle. Now that he has, he’s grown in confidence.
“There’s less time in the Premier League than what he’s used to, he’s quickened up his game, he’s not getting caught on the ball.

“I’m not going to take any credit for that, it’s the coaches, Michael Carrick and Kieran [McKenna] have been brilliant with him.
“But it’s Fred himself that has had the hunger and the humility and wanted to learn and to stick at it and keep working.
“As you said, 100 games – there are not many people that can say they’ve played 100 games for Man United, and I’m sure there will be many more [appearances] to come.
“Hopefully he’ll score outside the box soon, although I’m not sure if it’s going to be with his right – I’ve tried to tell him.”
