And he later bumped into Scotland’s McTominay, who played in the 0-0 group stage draw with England.
The United star went on to suffer heartbreak as Scotland were dumped out of the tournament after coming bottom in their group.
But it was not all bad for McTominay, 24, who had unified champion AJ to console him.
He posted on Instagram: “What a true gentleman, class act @anthonyjoshua.”
McTominay will soon return to Carrington for pre-season preparation ahead of United’s first game of the season against Leeds on August 14.
A month later, Joshua returns to the ring, having not fought since beating Kubrat Pulev, 40, in December.

And after setting up United team-mate Harry Maguire and captain Harry Kane, he took his Euros assists tally up to three.
He also helped Raheem Sterling open the scoring against Germany in the 2-0, last 16 win.
Only Switzerland’s Steven Zuber is ahead of him with one more assist.
Shaw equalled history too as he matched the record for most assists in a Euros knockout game.
With the two he left Rome with, it levels him with Rainer Bonhof, Marco van Basten, Xavi, Karel Poborsky, Cesc Fabregas and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It marks a magnificent turnaround for Shaw, who was only recalled to the England squad in March after three years in exile.
He suffered a torrid time under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United but was rejuvenated under replacement Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Man Utd hand Arsenal and Tottenham transfer boost after pulling out of Jules Kounde race to focus on Raphael Varane

ARSENAL and Tottenham’s hopes of signing Sevilla star Jules Kounde have been boosted after Manchester United turned their attention elsewhere, reports suggest.Kounde enjoyed a stunning campaign with the Andalusians as he made 49 appearances across all competitions and earned immense interest from the Premier League.

United, Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be keeping tabs on the star centre-back, whose impressive performances in LaLiga earned him an international call-up by France for Euro 2020.
But Dean Jones recently told The Done Deal Show that the Red Devils are prioritising other defensive targets, mainly Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.
The Manchester giants are initially looking to officially seal Jadon Sancho’s move from Borussia Dortmund.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is then determined to sign a top centre-back that will partner up with Harry Maguire.
But the Manchester giants are focused on Varane and Villarreal ace Pau Torres, who could move to Old Trafford in a swap deal that would see Eric Bailly going back the other way.
That works as a major boost for Arsenal and Tottenham, who are highly likely to move for the 22-year-old defender.
The Gunners appear to be prioritising Brighton ace Ben White but Manchester City have also joined the bidding war for the England international.

Spurs new boss Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be keen on making Kounde his first signing in North London.
However, both London rivals will have to splash some serious cash to convince Sevilla to sell their best defender.
City tried their luck last summer but a bid of around £50million was not enough to do business with the Spanish giants.

Sergio Ramos ‘rejects £10m Man Utd offer after talks over free transfer as Arsenal and PSG eye Real Madrid legend’

REAL MADRID legend Sergio Ramos has attracted interest from the Premier League after his exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, reports suggest.Ramos’ 16-year stint at Real came to an end last month after the player and club president Florentino Perez failed to reach an agreement over a new contract.

Los Blancos were willing to offer a one-year deal on reduced terms but the 35-year-old defender held out for a two-year contract and that standstill led to the former team captain’s departure.
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United approached the Spain international and proposed a £10million deal, with the option of a second season.
But Ramos rejected that offer and reports suggest he is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain, where he has been handed a straight two-year deal with his annual salary slightly minimised.

According to Goal, however, there has been no agreement between the player and PSG.
The same source, though, confirms that the Ligue 1 giants and Ramos have indeed come in contact without a formal offer being tabled.
Arsenal have also asked to be kept in the loop regarding the star centre-back’s future.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to sign a top defender to partner up with Harry Maguire at the back.
However, the Red Devils appear to be prioritising the likes of Real star Raphael Varane and Villarreal ace Pau Torres.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, would also like someone to lead his backline but seems to be prioritising the signing of a midfielder.
If Ramos ultimately joins PSG then he will reunite with former Real team-mates Keylor Navas and Angel Di Maria as well as fellow Spain players Ander Herrera and Pablo Sarabia.

HARRY MAGUIRE paid tribute to Jordan Pickford for dealing with being the most scrutinised keeper in world football to be a shining star for England.Pickford’s form has been under the microscope over the past 12 months after a series of blunders left many calling for him to be axed by boss Gareth Southgate.

But the 27-year-old Everton No 1 produced two top-class saves against Germany to provide the platform for their last-16 win.
Man of the match Maguire said: “We have a magnificent keeper behind us, who every time he has put on the shirt for England has been magnificent.
“Probably the goalkeeping No 1 spot for England is the most scrutinised position in world football.”
England have made it through to the quarter-finals after not conceding a goal in four games.
Maguire added: “We have excellent players but it’s not just us defenders or the keeper, it’s a unit, a base, it comes from Gareth and the way he sets us up.
“Of course, the forward lads in terms of the way they press.”
England now find themselves in the favourable half of the draw.
But Manchester United skipper Maguire warned: “You’ve seen before that if you don’t play to a level you are capable of you will get punished.”

Pickford thanked the 45,000 fans for driving on the Three Lions to a brilliant victory.
And reckons the home supporters have given England all the incentive they need to win their quarter-final in Rome on Saturday.
The keeper said: “We’ve played four games at Wembley and the atmosphere of 45,000 fans today was amazing.
“I think that just gives us the desire on Saturday in the quarter-finals — it is another opportunity to come back to Wembley.”
Pickford pulled off two vital saves to preserve England’s clean sheet.
He said: “I tried to take the sting off the ball by coming for crosses and take the sting out of the game when we were 2-0 up. I felt I was in the moment.”

Man Utd star Mason Greenwood wanted by Jamaica in switch of international allegiance from England after Euro 2020 injury

JAMAICA are lining up a move to convince Mason Greenwood to switch nationalities, reports say. The Caribbean nation are looking to make a big push for the World Cup next year and have recently persuaded West Ham forward Michail Antonio to play in their qualifiers.

Ravel Morrison, Andre Gray and Kemar Roofe are also believed to be in their plans for a squad which already includes Adrian Mariappa, Leon Bailey, Bobby Decordova-Reid and Liam Moore
Greenwood, 19, pulled out of England’s squad for the delayed European Championships for treatment on an ‘underlying injury’.
He also missed out on the Under-21 Euros in March due to the problem, with Aidy Boothroyd’s side finishing bottom of their group.
Greenwood has not played for England since making his senior debut against Iceland in September – but the appearance was marred in controversy.
The teenager, alongside City’s Phil Foden, was sent home for breaking Covid-19 safety rules by inviting two female guests to the team hotel.
Foden, 21, has since made seven more caps, with two goals, and started in two of England’s three Euros games.
Despite Greenwood not featuring for Gareth Southgate since the coronavirus breach, he was handed a boost by making the provisional Euros squad before withdrawing.
But the forward qualifies for Jamaica through his parents and is able to switch allegiances despite featuring in a Uefa Nations League game.

Players can change if they are under 21 and have featured no more than three competitive games.
Greenwood ended the season with 12 goals in 52 appearances but after the arrival of veteran striker Edison Cavani, 34, he was reduced to a role on the right wing.
Southgate hailed the versatile attacker when he explained the inclusion in his initial summer squad selection.
He said: “In terms of the past, that’s absolutely the past. I spoke with Mason before we selected him for the Under-21s in March to make that clear.
“I hope his inclusion on this provisional list shows we’re happy to select him, when young people make mistakes we move on from it, it was the same with Phil.
“He’s an absolutely outstanding finisher, there’s no question of that.
“He’s another very young player, his all-round game is still coming together but he’s clearly got an exceptional talent for finishing and that’s why we picked him in September.”

Patrice Evra apologises to Joleon Lescott for ‘light hearted’ forehead joke gone wrong during weird Euros vid on Twitter

PATRICE EVRA has sent out a public apology after making ‘light hearted banter’ about Joleon Lescott’s forehead. The Manchester United legend filmed a weird news parody called ‘Pat TV’ on his Twitter page, where he pretended to be a reporter on the European Championships.
Patrice Evra mocked Joleon Lescott’s forehead
I have to apologise to @JoleonLescott and his family, the joke was never meant to cause hurt it was only meant as light hearted banter, had I known then what I know now, I would have never of said this. Jo I hope you can accept my apology— Patrice Evra (@Evra) June 27, 2021

In the video, which is yet to be deleted, Evra discussed Amsterdam, where a last 16 tie between Denmark and Wales was played.
Former left-back Evra, 40, described the Dutch capital as the city ‘where people like to get as high as Joleon Lescott’s hair line’.
Ex-City and Everton defender Lescott, 38, has previously explained the scar on his forehead was caused by a severe head injury after he was struck by a car aged just five.
Less than 24 hours after Evra’s video, he took to Twitter to offer his apologies while claiming he was unaware of the reason for Lescott’s scar.
He posted: “I have to apologise to Joleon Lescott and his family, the joke was never meant to cause hurt it was only meant as light hearted banter, had I known then what I know now, I would have never (sic) of said this.
“Jo I hope you can accept my apology.”
In the original video, Evra tagged Lescott and captioned: “I don’t know why they make me say this!
“I promise you this was not my idea.”
A laughing face emoji also accompanied the tweet.

The pair were former rivals while playing for their respected Manchester clubs and both featured as pundits on Sky Sports.
Lescott revealed how he got his scar in a 2006 interview with the Independent, saying: “I have a scar but I have nothing to worry about.
“I had a major operation straight away and several more over the next few months but I was young and didn’t really know too much about what was going on.”
Evra is notorious for his bizarre social media posts, which include kissing a chimpanzee to ironing along to Barry White.
He even poked fun at Oasis’ Liam Gallagher after the singer’s beloved City were beaten in the Champions League final by Chelsea.

Wayne Rooney demands Jack Grealish is dropped as Man Utd legend picks ultra-defensive England team to face Germany

WAYNE ROONEY believes Gareth Southgate must change England’s shape against Germany – and sacrifice Jack Grealish in doing so. Southgate has switched between a 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 so far in the delayed European Championship.

Last Tuesday, he deployed the latter with ultra-popular Grealish helping England to a 1-0 win over Czech Republic as he played in the No10 role.
But Manchester United legend Rooney, currently managing Derby, would prefer a three-man central midfield, with pacey wingers next to Harry Kane.
It would mean Grealish is dropped, with Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling providing speed out wide.
Rooney, 35, wrote in his column with The Times: “After all my championing of Jack Grealish, I wouldn’t play him from the start against Germany.
“He was one of England’s better players against the Czech Republic and it is not that my opinion of him has changed.
“My thinking is entirely down to how the Germans play. Different opponents demand different approaches and Tuesday’s game is tailor-made for Marcus Rashford — but not Jack.
“Germany play three at the back with a high line and what they try to do is almost suffocate you.
“They pass side to side, get the ball in wide areas, come back and go all the way out to the other flank, then get balls into the penalty area.

“And when you win it, they want you to play a pass to feet because that means — with their line pushed right up — they can go and press you high up the pitch.
“The more players you have who want to take the ball to feet, the more they can press, so instead of Jack I’d be looking to have runners either side of Harry Kane.
“My instruction would be to attack the spaces behind their wing backs when they go forward and make runs down the channels to the sides of their centre backs — especially given Mats Hummels’s problems against pace.”

Sterling’s winner against Czech Republic was his 14th in 19 England games, making him a favourite to start.
But Bukayo Saka put in a man of the match performance, while Jadon Sancho got his first piece of action having come off the bench.
Rooney, England’s all-time top goal scorer, cannot split the trio, meaning he would be happy to see any one of them start.
He explained: “Rashford is ideal for the job and one of Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka or Jadon Sancho would complete my forward line.
“Raheem has been in brilliant form and Saka impressed against the Czechs, while Sancho knows the German players the best, so I don’t think you could lose with whichever option you chose.
Wayne Rooney would leave Jack Grealish out against GermanyCredit: AFP
“Germany had 62 per cent possession against France, 58 per cent against Portugal and 75 per cent against Hungary, and they should have a bigger share of the ball than England.
“Their centre backs will push to the halfway line. The first thought when England win it should be to play into the channels and have Rashford, and Sterling/Saka/Sancho going in behind.
“Having runners will get England up the pitch and take Germany’s counterpress away.”
Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips have been Southgate’s midfield pairing so far, with Mason Mount playing further afield.
But with Mount potentially ruled out having trained on his own due to his coronavirus isolation, Rooney would give a fit Jordan Henderson the nod.
The Liverpool captain came on against Czech Republic, but still faces question marks over his fitness.
Rooney said: “I would go with a midfield three, rather than a two, plus a No 10, which was Grealish’s role against the Czechs.
“It’s important not to be outnumbered in the middle because Joachim Low has forward players who drop back in, like Thomas Müller and Kai Havertz, and Joshua Kimmich, who comes in from right wing back to centre midfield.
Jordan Henderson has question marks over his fitnessCredit: PA
“Provided Jordan Henderson is fit I’d start him alongside Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips but Henderson has to be 100 per cent.
“In a game of this size, where Germany will keep the ball and make you run, you will suffer if you’re not completely there physically.
“I’d use Jude Bellingham instead if there is the slightest doubt about Henderson.”
Rooney, who captained England from 2014–2017, would also keep an unchanged backline of Luke Shaw, John Stones, Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker.
And it also allows for impact off the bench with playmakers Grealish and Phil Foden overlooked.
Rooney added: “That extra man in midfield would help Gareth Southgate to start the game solidly, feel how it’s going and maybe look to make the difference by introducing the quality of Grealish or Phil Foden from the bench.
“Against Germany you have to be cautious.”
