Harry Redknapp: I tipped Man Utd to win the title… but NONE of their players would get in the Man City team

THERE are fewer than five miles between the two Manchester clubs — but in terms of quality, they are 100 miles apart right now.And if that wasn’t worrying enough for United, the way they are going it is a gap I can see getting even wider.

I know I tipped them to give the title a real go this season but you can forget it.
They will be lucky to finish within shouting distance of the top four . . . and even that is a hell of a long shot.
So when City go to Old Trafford this afternoon, there is only one result I can see, for sure.
An away win — and a comfortable one as well. Whether Pep Guardiola’s City team are as good as last year or not, they are a heck of a lot better than United, who I don’t think have progressed at all.

In fact, I would go so far as to say they are no further forward than when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was manager . . . and how many millions have they spent since then?
United were starting to become bang average when Ole was in charge and, for me, nothing has changed.
If City had the pick of anyone in a red shirt, how many would they take?
Maybe Marcus Rashford in top form — which he has not been this season.

Beyond that? No one. Bruno Fernandes might get on the bench, but he certainly wouldn’t make the starting XI, and the rest wouldn’t even get close.
I look at United and think, “What’s the plan?” They are a very, very pale shadow of some of the teams they have had over the years . . . and they were always exciting.
I still have a scrapbook from ten years old, full of stuff about Duncan Edwards and Bobby Charlton, Eddie Colman and Roger Byrne, all the Busby Babes.
They had great teams under Fergie as well. Ryan Giggs and David Beckham flying at you, Andy Cole or Eric Cantona scoring for fun.
Even when they weren’t mopping up trophies, they would still be great to watch.
And they always had a couple of players you would have loved in your side, like a Bryan Robson or Norman Whiteside.
I took teams to Old Trafford for 20 years and, if you went one down after ten minutes, you knew it was going to be a long day.But look at them now and they are just very, very ordinary.
They are not producing players like they used to and you have to say the recruitment has been poor.
This is very much Erik ten Hag’s side, not one full of players he inherited. But I struggle to see any star quality — and that’s something United have never lacked.
A manager of any side in the Premier League now — and I mean ANY — would fancy his chances of getting something from United.
You know your players will always be up for it, because of the club they are up against, but in truth they would be taking on an average team.
They are 100 miles apart right nowHarry Redknapp on Manchester City and Manchester United
I know they are at home this afternoon but, for me, United’s best chance is to treat it as though they are underdogs in a cup tie.
They are not on the same level as City, so the only way is to work their socks off and hang in through sheer endeavour.
Like when I was managing Bournemouth against them in the cup.
It is at Old Trafford, so if they do that, then the crowd will lift them and United could feed off it.
Ten Hag has to fire them up to run, chase, work hard for the whole 90 minutes and hope the fans carry them along.
But just to say that about a United side at home is unreal.
In terms of a contest . . . well it really isn’t one. There is no comparison between them.
I keep hearing that Erling Haaland isn’t at the same level as last year — but he still has nine in nine in the Premier League. Imagine when he finds a bit of form!
Then there is Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, the new lad Jeremy Doku, Julian Alvarez . . . top quality everywhere you look.

For me, Rashford is the only United player who can compare and he will be up against Kyle Walker, so will be chasing both ways.
I would love to see a close game with loads of goals but in reality, there’s only one side I can see scoring them — and they won’t be wearing red.

Pep Guardiola sends stark warning to Man City fans ahead of Manchester derby and Sir Bobby Charlton tributes

PEP GUARDIOLA will not accept any Manchester City fan insulting Sir Bobby Charlton, vowing: “They do not represent us.”City banned two supporters — both minors — who were filmed mocking the death of England 1966 World Cup winner Charlton last weekend.

The legend’s former club Manchester United will hold a minute’s applause ahead of Sunday’s emotionally-charged Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
And City have warned any fans who  misbehave will be banned and reported to police.
Guardiola said: “They don’t represent us.
“Alcohol makes bad things in people.

“We have a lot of respect for United, especially the iconic figures like Sir Bobby Charlton.
“We will be part of the condolences for the family, Manchester United and English football.”
Security officials trawled through CCTV footage to identify the young fans who sang  sick chants on the Etihad concourse — after Charlton’s death, aged 86, was announced.
But Guardiola preferred to focus on  the loss felt by City ambassador and legend Mike Summerbee — who played alongside Charlton for England.

He added: “What represents us is Mike Summerbee going to Old Trafford to sign the book on behalf of Man City.”
Guardiola also added his tribute, writing: “Thanks for Bobby Charlton to make our football the best place to live. Never ever will you be forgotten.”
City fans observed an impeccable silence at the 2008 Old Trafford derby marking 50 years since the Munich air disaster.
And Guardiola sees no reason why tomorrow’s tributes should not be similarly appropriate.
The Spaniard said: “This is definitely going to  happen. It’s a good rivalry and each club respects the other.
“It’s my eighth season here and no big issues happened. We won games, we lost games.”

“Other kids went as scary pumpkins, witches, Encanto, but no other footballers. Unfortunately, they don’t do prizes for best dressed any more.”

I’m a Man Utd star – my girlfriend and I sometimes play a game where we try to find Man City flags in town.. we never do

And of course, the prospect of the looming Manchester derby came up as a topic of conversation.
Pellistri was dismissive about how well Manchester City are actually supported in Manchester, and insisted that only one club in the city really matters.
Speaking to Carve Deportiva, Pellistri said: “Manchester is all about United. You don’t see City shirts or flags.
“Sometimes, with my girlfriend, we go out and say ‘let’s try to find one’ [a City flag] and we don’t see them.”

Pellistri has found himself becoming a key member of Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay squad, starting both games during the international break and registering two assists.
He has found starts harder to come by in a Manchester United shirt however, starting just twice for the Red Devils during his six appearances in all competitions.
That’s despite Jadon Sancho’s exile from the squad and Antony’s absence from the team while he was investigated over allegations of domestic abuse.
Pellistri was the subject of interest from Real Betis and FC Twente this summer but opted to stay and fight for his place in ten Hag’s side.

According to reports in Uruguay this summer, the club were planning to extend Pellistri’s contract this season before handing him a loan to further his development.
Pellistri’s current contract expires in July 2025 with United having the option to extend by another year.
Pellistri has played 16 games in total for Manchester United, registering one goal and three assists during his time in a Red Devils shirt. More

Jurgen Klopp meanwhile is exploring options if Mo Salah opts to take the Saudi’s big-money offer in January or next summer.
Musiala may not be the right replacement as the German is not a right winger.
But this does not mean to say Klopp would not take the talented youngster at Anfield.
The same goes for Guardiola who is looking to defend the league title this season.
Man City are currently two points behind front-runners Spurs and the Spaniard may want to tweak his starting XI to boost his team’s chances of securing the top spot. More

RB Leipzig star Ilaix Moriba ‘cancelled flight’ to seal Man City transfer before Barcelona debut, his dad claimed

THE father of Ilaix Moriba has revealed he cancelled his son’s flight to Manchester City so the teen could remain at Barcelona.Moriba, now 20, burst into Ronald Koeman’s team in 2019 and was tipped for a bright future with the Catalans.

    AFP OR LICENSORS

Ilaix Moriba, now 20, was set to agree a deal with Man City before staying at Barcelona However, he chose to leave the Camp Nou in 2021 and joined RB Leipzig for around £16million after a row over his contract.

He had a two-year spell on-loan with LaLiga giants Valencia, and his future is currently in limbo in Germany.

Moriba was put up for sale in the summer, although there were no takers.

But, Moriba came close to joining Pep Guardiola at City when doubts emerged over a Barca deal back in 2019.

The Spain youth international, who plays internationally for Guinea, had even booked a plane ticket to the Etihad as he searched for his first professional contract.

However, Moriba’s dad Mamady Kourouma cancelled the ticket on the morning of the flight after a breakthrough in contract talks with Barca.

He told Sport: “With Barcelona, the negotiations did not advance. We met with Txiki Begiristain [City’s sporting director] and he explained his entire project to us.

“We liked it because they bet a lot on him. A few weeks later we had the tickets to travel to Manchester and sign the contract.

“I cancelled it the morning that we had to go there. I wanted Ilaix to be an example and a reference for the next generations of Barcelona.

“His friends were gone. If he stayed, it was proof Barca was betting on the youth players. We managed to reach an agreement where we all came out winning.” More
