JAMIE CARRAGHER has blasted the decision to award Manchester City a penalty in the 25th minute of their game against Chelsea.A spot-kick was given after Marc Cucurella was judged to have pulled Erling Haaland’s shirt as he looked to connect with a Bernardo Silva cross.

Jamie Carragher, who was on co-commentary for the match on Sky Sports, disagreed with the decision by Anthony Taylor to award a penalty.
The former Liverpool defender immediately reacted: “That’s not right, that’s not right” after the decision was given.
He continued: “No, no, no. This isn’t right. The VAR has looked the end of the tussle. He needs to look at the start. This is very harsh.
“Haaland had a hold of him as well. I think that’s what gets him in front of him.”

Taylor immediately pointed to the spot, and showed a yellow card to Cucurella.
On the replay, it appeared as though Cucurella had grabbed hold of the arm of Haaland – even if the contact may not have been enough to floor the 6ft4 striker.
There was a lengthy pause in play while VAR pored over whether to award the penalty or not.
The confusion was only heightened when VAR pulled things back to examine whether Reece James had handled the ball prior to Cucurella’s foul.

Haaland duly dispatched the penalty to net his 12th Premier League goal of the season.
Six minutes of added time were added on to make up for the lengthy VAR break.
And number 13 arrived not long after for Haaland when he appeared to score with his BACKSIDE on 47 minutes.
Cole Palmer proved to be the Chelsea hero, playing against his old club, as his late penalty equaliser sealed a point in a thrilling 4-4 draw. More

Real Madrid line up summer transfer for Man City’s Erling Haaland as agent heads to Bernabeu and release clause emerges

ERLING HAALAND could be the subject of a transfer tug-of-war in the summer after his agent was reportedly spotted at Real Madrid’s stadium. The Manchester City ace, who has already scored 15 goals this season, has remained in the Spanish giants’ background plans since emerging as one of European football’s most lethal forwards.

Speculation has been rife that Madrid could launch a bid to try and prise the 23-year-old away from Pep Guardiola’s side.
And this has showed no sign of cooling after Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta was spotted at the Bernabeu to watch Real Madrid’s win over Braga in the Champions League on Wednesday, according to AS.
That is despite Pimenta not representing any men’s players from either club.
The report adds that Haaland’s long-term future could be thrown into doubt thanks to a release clause which activates in the summer.

That being said, Madrid would need a cough up £175million to match the clause.
Pimenta, the successor to the late Mino Raiola’s agency empire, has previously insisted on always giving clients options for the future.
She previously told AS: “I am in favor of freedom. It’s my battle.
“One of my priorities as an agent is to offer the player what I call ‘the key to the door’.

“When the player goes to a club I do everything to create the conditions so that the key to the door is in his hands.”
However, the report suggests there are currently no negotiations ongoing between the parties over a move for Haaland, with such discussions being saved til the summer.
The Norwegian finished runner-up in this year’s Ballon d’Or behind Lionel Messi, but did claim the Gerd Muller prize for deadliest striker as a consolation.
Madrid have reportedly had a tough time making a choice between signing Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.
A report from Italy had suggested they had picked Mbappe over Haaland to combine with new superstar Jude Bellingham.
This was followed up by reports in Spain saying they had chosen not to sign Mbappe and would instead pick the ex-Borussia Dortmund star. More

And that is unlikely to happen for him at the Etihad after another frustrating season under boss Pep Guardiola.
City told Phillips in the summer they would be willing to let him go on loan but the £45million former Leeds star chose to stay.
However, with Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes now ahead of him in the pecking order, he knows his chance is unlikely to come at City.
Juve believe they can lure him but will have Bayern Munich and a host of English clubs as rivals.

Phillips was named in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, meaning he has now earned more call-ups (2) than he has had starts (1) for his club this season.
He has played just 215 minutes of football across eight games for Man City this season.
Southgate has warned Phillips’ future in the England team will depend on him earning regular minutes.
He said: “For any player that’s not playing football, it’s about their careers. England is a consequence of your club, but you also want fulfilment. If you’re in training every day then you want to play.

“He’s playing with world-class players at his club. I completely understand why he’s not getting games.”
The Three Lions have Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta on Friday, November 17 and North Macedonia on Monday, November 20.
In October, SunSport revealed how Phillips was prepared to waive a £17.5m pay-off in order to push through a January transfer to secure minutes ahead of the Euros.
Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham have all previously been linked with Phillips.
It was also reported City offered Phillips to Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants were not keen on the £43m price tag on the deal. More
