Jack Grealish jets back to UK as he nears £100m Etihad transfer… and Man City hope Harry Kane will follow this week

HE’S got the shorts, now Jack Grealish just needs a matching sky blue shirt as he eyes a £100million move to Manchester City. The Aston Villa playmaker looked a bit jaded as he flew back to Birmingham on a private jet after holidaying in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik.

But the 25-year-old winger’s head may be still in the clouds after the English champions slapped in a record-breaking bid for him on Friday.
Grealish is waiting for the green light from Villa to head to Manchester to complete his switch this week – instead of reporting back for pre-season with his club on Monday.
And City still hope his Three Lions team-mate Harry Kane could join him at the Etihad when his own summer holiday comes to an end.
He is due in at Spurs on Monday but may need to push hard for a move with the champions unwilling to meet the £160m valuation.
Spurs are expecting the England skipper back to begin his pre-season training with new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
And the indications are he will make it clear to the North London club that he still wants to join City before the transfer window closes.
City’s plans to sign Kane will not be affected by their £100m move for Grealish.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is demanding £160m for his prized asset – a figure City have no intention of paying.
Earlier in the summer, they indicated to Spurs that the figure they were willing to pay was closer to £100m.
So there remains a huge gap in the valuations of the two clubs and the only chance of it being bridged is if Kane puts the pressure on to leave.
City are willing to push on with their spending plans as they have already covered the cost of Grealish with their sales.
They had an initial £45m in their back pocket from the sale of Leroy Sane, which was not shown on last season’s accounts.

Angelino, Jack Harrison and Lukas Nmecha have all left on permanent deals – raising close to £40m in total – while Serbian midfielder Ivan Ilic is close to joining Hellas Verona for a fee of almost £7m.
In addition, they have pocketed around £11m from the deal which took their former youth team player Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United.
Bernardo Silva and Yangel Herrera could be sold this summer to boost their kitty further.

Raheem Sterling contract talks at a stalemate but Man City NOT looking to get rid despite £100m Jack Grealish transfer

RAHEEM STERLING is still no closer to signing a new contract – yet that does NOT mean he will be offloaded if Jack Grealish ends up at the Etihad.Manchester City would love Sterling to nail down his future, even though talks have still to resume talks after initial discussions last season.

But there is no panic from the club as the England star, one of the heroes of England’s march to the Euro final, has two years left on his current deal.
Sterling, already one of the club’s best paid players on around £300,000-a-week, is a key man in Pep Guardiola’s plans, despite struggling for form towards the end of last season.
After his displays for England this summer, the striker’s stock is higher than ever and he will not be sold even if City land Grealish AND Harry Kane.
City have constantly insisted there is no rush to seal the deal, after talks went on ice in the hectic finale to last term, immediately followed by Euros duty.
Yet one man whose Etihad future is close to being sorted is John Stones, who will sign a new contract worth £175,000-a-week when he returns to training.
Stones is only due back at the end of this week and will extend his current terms – which have 12 months to run – when he does.

The Premier League champions are hoping to seal a £100million deal for Grealish over the next week.
Guardiola has set his sights on bringing in the England playmaker as he bids to lead the club to Champions League glory.
City lost the final last season and Guardiola wants to strengthen his team after their near miss and the departure of Sergio Aguero.

Lukas Nmecha reveals Man City ARE ‘getting another top striker’ amid Harry Kane and Erling Haaland transfer talk

LUKAS NMECHA has dropped a massive hint concerning the potential arrival of a superstar forward at Manchester City this summer. The ex-Citizens frontman made the claim after sealing an £11million switch to Wolfsburg from the Etihad in search of more game time.

The forward, who began his career as a youth player in City’s academy in 2015, has been on four loan spells between 2019 and 2021.
And will the Germany Under-21, who has also played in the same age group for England, ply his trade in the Bundesliga next season.
Nmecha, who made three senior City appearances, told German outlet Kicker: “I still had one year (left) of (my) contract.
COMPETITION: SPOT THE BALL TO WIN A CAR AND CASH
“They’re getting another top striker, I don’t think my chances would have been very good there.”
Man City, who will play Preston in a friendly, have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland, 21, and England captain Harry Kane.
Pep Guardiola is thought to be looking to strengthen his attacking options before next season following Sergio Aguero’s departure for Barcelona in June.
The much-loved Etihad hero netted 260 goals in 360 across all competitions for City.
Efforts include a last-gasp rocket that helped the club snatch the Prem title on the last day of the 2011-12 season.
It is thought Haaland – who is also a Chelsea target – could cost City a whopping £150million amid reports Dortmund hope to acquire this fee for their star.
This is despite the player allegedly having a £65m release clause in his contract with the German giants which is claimed to come into play in 2022.

Meanwhile, City are reported to have had a £100m bid for Kane, 27, knocked back in June.
However, the club are now rumoured to be willing to offer FOUR players to Spurs in a swap deal.
And forwards Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling are thought to be among this number.

Man City ‘willing to offer up FOUR players in Harry Kane swap transfer’ including Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus

MANCHESTER CITY are willing to offer up four players to help secure a swap transfer for Harry Kane, according to reports. As revealed by SunSport in May, the Premier League champions would happily use Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus as bargaining chips.

But according to L’Equipe, now Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva may be suitable candidates to head to Tottenham as part of the exchange.
It is understood City would only use one of the four disposable players in any potential deal with Spurs.
Kane signalled his intent to leave Spurs at the end of last season.
The England captain, 27, still has three years left on his contract so Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would only accept a mammoth offer.
Levy wants at least £150million but City hope a lower fee plus a three-time Premier League winner thrown into the package could be enough.
Pep Guardiola’s side saw their £100m bid in June rejected by Tottenham as the Spanish boss looks to replace the club’s all-time leading scorer Sergio Aguero.
Reports last week suggested Kane may even refuse to return to pre-season at Spurs in order to force through a record-breaking Etihad switch.
Chelsea are also monitoring the situation and could offer Tammy Abraham in a potential trade.
However, new Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo insisted his star man is going nowhere – and will hold talks with the academy graduate when he gets back from holidays.
The Portuguese said: “Harry is our player, period. No need to talk about anything else.

“Now is the moment for Harry to recover his energy, to rest.

Juventus push ahead with Gabriel Jesus pursuit but Man City want cash up front to sanction transfer

JUVENTUS appear ready to firm up their interest in Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus. And that would give Etihad boss Pep Guardiola another forward-line headache with the new season just over four weeks away.

City have made Tottenham’s England captain Harry Kane their top target but know they may have to be patient to sign him.
That has not stopped Juve coach Max Allegri making Brazilian Jesus, 24, his No 1 target, but the club face a financial mess.
City want cash up front as they chase Kane, 27, and Villa’s Jack Grealish, 25.
Kane remains Guardiola’s preferred choice – with club sources dismissing links with Antoine Griezmann, Danny Ings and Robert Lewandowski.
Meanwhile Juve’s interest in Jesus will raise more questions about the future of former Manchester United man Cristiano Ronaldo.
Paulo Dybala is poised to sign a new deal with the Turin club.
But Allegri is looking to freshen up his attack as he bids to take the crown back off Inter next season.
However, Ronaldo is reportedly happy to see out the final year of his Juventus contract.

And it’s even been claimed he is open to penning a 12-month extension.

Jack Grealish poses in new Aston Villa kit giving fans hope he’ll snub Chelsea and Man City transfer interest

JACK GREALISH has treated Aston Villa fans to a cheeky strip tease. And it has left many of them feeling rather excited about Villa’s chances of keeping their iconic skipper out of Manchester City’s clutches.
Jack Grealish pictured wearing the Aston Villa’s new 2021-22 Kappa kit
Pessimistic Villa fans feared they would never see Jack Grealish in their club’s colours again
Pessimistic Villa fans feared they would never see Grealish in their club’s colours again when he headed off for England duty, amid rumours Pep Guardiola was preparing to launch a £100million bid after the Euros.
However Grealish surprised and delighted his Villa fanbase when he was pictured wearing the club’s new 2021-22 Kappa kit when it was launched yesterday.
The club’s poster-boy was shown in snaps with his feet up at Villa Park modelling the new look, while declaring his love for his hometown club in a promotional video.
“Everyone knows what claret and blue means to me,” commented the England midfielder.
“I’ve been a Villa boy all my life, and I love playing for this club.”
That was enough to convince fans the only walking Jack will be doing this summer is on the catwalk!
The Villa faithful took to social media, with one fan commenting: “No way they’d promote him this much if he’s off. Never in doubt.”
While another believer added: “So, Jack’s staying then. Knew it all along.”

Unfortunately for Grealish’s army of Villa fans, the snaps of their hero were taken several weeks ago, before the midfielder joined up with Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.
In fact City fans remain convinced they are on course to increase the amount of Sky Blue Grealish will be sporting this term.
City also released their new home kit yesterday with many commenting that they expect to see it being worn by the Villa skipper by the time the new season kicks off.
One Tweeted: “Classic kit! @JackGrealish you’ll look good in this one.”

Man City ‘make contact’ with Antoine Griezmann over transfer with Barcelona willing to flog star to reduce wage bill

MANCHESTER CITY have contacted France international Antoine Griezmann over a potential transfer, according to reports. It’s believed Barcelona are willing to sell the striker to reduce their wage bill, allowing them to re-sign out-of-contract star Lionel Messi.
Barcelona reportedly want to get Antoine Griezmann’s salary off their booksCredit: AP
According to French website Foot Mercato, City boss Pep Guardiola has spoken to Griezmann, 30, about a potential move to the Etihad.
The Premier League champions are in need of a new striker after releasing club legend Sergio Aguero and the Frenchman could fit the bill.
City have been linked with England captain Harry Kane but may be priced out of a move by current employers Tottenham.
Rumours suggest Barcelona are hoping to receive a serious offer for Griezmann this summer to appease their financial woes.
It is believed the Spanish giants need to cut their costs to operate under a salary cap, with new signing Memphis Depay reportedly agreeing to a 30 per cent pay cut.
Barca are yet to agree a new contract with Messi and the sale of Griezmann could finance his wages.

The five-time European champions signed the World Cup winner in July 2019 for £108m but are unlikely to recuperate all of that money.
Griezmann has scored just 22 LaLiga goals since leaving Atletico Madrid, while his former side have gone on to become champions of Spain.
Reports claim the player wouldn’t be interested in joining Paris Saint-Germain – and fellow European giants Bayern Munich and Juventus are waiting to see how the transfer window unfolds before considering a move.
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman hinted at Griezmann’s departure in a recent press conference.

He said: “For me, Griezmann is very important.
“He was an excellent recruit for Barca and he showed his quality. He is a very good player.
“But I insist, I do not know what decisions will be made in the end, because the most important thing is that Leo stays with us.
“This is the future of this club and we must try to the maximum [to keep Messi].”

Pep Guardiola insists Man City ‘cannot afford’ Harry Kane transfer as Spurs demand ‘impossible’ £150m fee

PEP GUARDIOLA has insisted Manchester City ‘cannot afford’ to fork out £150million on Harry Kane. The Premier League champions are desperate for attacking reinforcements after Sergio Aguero’s free transfer departure to Barcelona.

The Cityzens have made England’s Euro 2020 hero Kane their No1 target after being put off Erling Haaland.
That is due to Borussia Dortmund’s reluctance to sell until next year and £140m asking price.
Wantaway Kane has already told Tottenham he wants to leave but the North London side are determined to keep him.
And they are confident of doing that having slapped the huge £150m price tag on his head.
Guardiola only has Brazilian Gabriel Jesus and Spain’s Ferran Torres as senior strikers in his squad with 18-year-old Liam Delap currently deputy.
The City boss says they will not be held to ransom over Kane, who yesterday revealed he will hold further talks with Spurs after the Euros, or anyone else.
Guardiola said: “At the prices [quoted] we are not going to buy any strikers. It is impossible, we cannot afford it.
“All clubs are struggling financially; we are not an exception.”

He added: “We have Gabriel and Ferran who have been incredible in this position.
“We have young players in the academy and we play many times with a false nine.
“There is more of a chance we aren’t going to buy a striker for next season.”
City did launch a £100m swoop for Kane last month after being informed they were his preferred destination.
But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear he wants to keep the star and he has instructed new manager Nuno Espirito Santo to plan his team with the ace included in it for this season.
