Jurgen Klopp taunts Arsenal over Gabriel Jesus transfer and why Man City sold Brazilian to Gunners

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp appeared to taunt Arsenal by claiming Manchester City only sold Gabriel Jesus to them because the “distance was big enough”.The Gunners landed Jesus, 25, in the summer transfer window following a £45million deal with City, where he played for five years.

The striker has hit the ground running with five goals and four assists in 10 appearances across all competitions and is helping Mikel Arteta’s side rival his former team for the title.
Klopp sang the Brazil international’s praises ahead of today’s clash between Liverpool and the North Londoners at the Emirates.
But the German tactician suggested City would have never sold him to a more direct rival.
Klopp said: “I don’t know Gabriel on a personal basis but I always liked him as a player.

“I know City would not have sold him to every club but to Arsenal the distance was big enough geographically and they did it.
“Exceptional player, you always saw that when he played for City. The Gabriel Jesus role at City was a nine, a winger, last year everybody said City had no No.9.
“He was still there but he played obviously from the wing and now he can play his role.”
Jesus joined City from Palmeiras in 2017 but never managed to land a starting role on a consistent basis despite a raft of impressive appearances.

Haaland has scored 19 goals in 12, including THREE Premier League hat-tricks, prior to today’s clash with Southampton.
But he isn’t the only “robot” at Man City, with summer signing Manuel Akanji showcasing an amazing talent off the football pitch.
The Swiss defender’s mathematics skills are out of this world.
He has the ability to calculate multiplication questions such as 23×42 and (93×60)+20 in a second.

Brainiac Akanji answered a number of Man City-based maths questions and hardly broke a sweat in an interview with Sky Sports.
One fan said on Twitter: “People signing petitions to get Haaland gone for being a robot when the real robot is Manuel Akanji.”
Another tweeted: “So if Erling Haaland is a machine, Akanji is an AI robot from the future! Man City taking football to new levels!”
There simply isn’t any maths question Akanji can’t solve.

Akanji has also impressed on the pitch, turning out for the Prem champions four times across all competitions.
City have conceded just four goals with the 27-year-old on the pitch while scoring 15 of their own.
Akanji does, however, have ambitions of being a City regular, despite competing with the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake.
He told Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten: “We have a lot of good players. I know that it won’t be easy.
“I also don’t expect to play through every game for 90 minutes, but I want to make it as difficult as possible for the coach.” More

Despite describing driving the latest electric tech as “exhilarating”, Guardiola wasn’t in a smiley mood.

MANCHESTER CITY were told they may have a decision to make over their £40million buy-back option on Romeo Lavia – just weeks after selling him for £14 million. The champions allowed the Belgian midfield ace to join today’s opponents Southampton in early July, once their swoop for Kalvin Phillips was agreed.

However he was very highly-regarded by Pep Guardiola and staff at the Etihad.
Therefore they secured an option to buy him back if any bids were accepted from elsewhere.
Lavia made an outstanding start at St Mary’s, attracting the attention of Chelsea.
And the Blues made a staggering £50million offer – £40million up front plus £10million in add ons – before August’s transfer deadline.

City were put on alert that they may have to exercise their option or risk losing him.
But Southampton turned the offer down as they were desperate to count on the starlet this season.
Lavia is now injured and misses the return to his former club today but Guardiola said: “Romeo started amazingly at Southampton but unfortunately had the injury.
“It was an option to keep him here but a good offer from Southampton arrived for him and his development.

On those famous calves he claimed it is all genetics saying to the Daily Mail: “I actually don’t do anything. It’s just something that runs in the family.
“My grandad always had big calves when he used to play football.
“But I don’t do any calf exercises or calf routines in the gym or anything. Honestly, it’s just something that I’ve had since I was young.”

“In training I couldn’t get them over my calves because the socks were so small.

Grealish is known for his superstitions, memorably wearing a pair of battered football boots as Aston Villa beat Derby to secure promotion to the Premier League in 2019.
The England ace persisted with them as they were “lucky” – despite his toe nearly being visible through the end of them.
Having made the move from his boyhood club Aston Villa prior to the start of this season, Grealish has opened up about working with a footballing great in Pep Guardiola.
Grealish said: “He’s an unbelievable coach. He’s just an addict to football. I can’t speak highly enough of him.
“I’ve said at times this season that he’s won games by himself, with the way he’s set us up and the tactics he’s given us and we’ve gone out there and done the job.”
Grealish hasn’t quite lived up to his price tag yet but is learning under the tutorship of a coaching legend.

Chelsea and Man City ‘favourites’ to land Jude Bellingham despite Real Madrid holding ‘advanced talks’ over Dortmund ace

Marca report talks are already taking place between Bellingham and Real MadridCredit: Marca
The Borussia Dortmund and England sensation, 19, has dazzled for club and country since moving to Germany in 2020.
Bellingham became the youngest Bundesliga captain ever this week and followed that up by breaking two Champions League records with his double against Sevilla.
And with the midfielder set to start for the Three Lions at the World Cup, clubs are keen to get a deal done before he stars on the global stage.
According to Bild in Germany, Graham Potter and Pep Guardiola are in pole position to add Bellingham to their squads – ahead of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

And that would make Erling Haaland ever happier because the goal-machine striker wants to be reunited with Bellingham at the Etihad after their time together in Germany.
But according to Marca, the initial conversations between Real and Bellingham’s representatives are underway to discuss the specific numbers of Bellingham’s contract – a year after the first talks between the two camps.
The report adds Real Madrid chiefs are “increasingly convinced” they will secure a deal.
The Spanish champions and their English rivals are understood to have the financial ability to pay Dortmund up to £88m for Bellingham.

Real Madrid have snapped up two of Europe’s best young central midfielders in the last two summers in Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.
But they are desperate to complete a stunning hat-trick by adding Bellingham to their ranks in a complete overhaul from the Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro era at the Bernabeu.
Los Blancos chiefs are hopeful the trio of youngsters could form a successful partnership for the next decade.
But Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City are still confident of securing Bellingham, leaving Manchester United and Liverpool way back in the race.
The English rivals have all been circling for the former Birmingham City academy talent.
But SunSport columnist Troy Deeney urged the rising star to snub the Premier League and become a Real Madrid legend instead. More

Ilkay Gundogan’s stunning wife claims Manchester has no good restaurants despite Pep Guardiola owning tapas joint

The 27-year-old’s gripes come despite the Manchester City boss Guardiola, who manages her husband, co-owning tapas restaurant Tast in the city.
He opened the eatery in 2018 alongside Michelin-starred chef Paco Perez alongside others on King Street in central Manchester.
It describes itself on its website as a “warm and welcome environment” that serves “delicious, authentic Barcelona-style food”.
But Tast was lumped into Sara’s damning description of local food as she claimed there was “nothing” when asked about her favourite restuarants in Manchester.

“Can’t find a real Italian or good sushi or just fresh food … everything frozen. Restaurants here are focus on making money with drinks and shots like night clubs not quality food.
