‘So sexy’ – Pep Guardiola says Kalvin Phillips has the ‘perfect body’ as he makes light of Man City star’s weight issue

PEP GUARDIOLA joked that Kalvin Phillips has the “perfect body” as he made light of player’s weight issue. The midfielder was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s return to the Premier League, beating Leeds 3-1.

It followed after manager Guardiola said Phillips came back from the winter World Cup too heavy.
He said: “He’s not injured – he arrived overweight.
“I don’t know [why]. He didn’t arrive in the condition to do training sessions and to play.”
The swipe appears to have motivated Phillips as his manager revealed there was a spark in his training performances.

And it could earn the England international a place back in City’s starting 11 when they host Everton on Saturday.
Guardiola said: “He has the perfect body now – so sexy. We will see for the weekend.’
“He has spent the first part of the season out with surgery to arrive for the World Cup – and did everything to get to the World Cup.
“It’s not just about just being fit you also have to understand what we want to do, the movements etc.

“So that means, as quick as possible, because Rodri cannot play all the games, so as quick as possible he he will play.
“But I’m happy that yesterday for example Kalvin trained really well and sooner or later he will play.”
Phillips made two substitute appearances for England in Qatar, as the Three Lions were dumped out in the quarter-final.
And he watched on from his old ground as goals from Rodri and Erling Haaland twice helped narrow Arsenal’s lead at the top to five points.

Not even Pascal Struijk’s goal could overshadow City’s evening.
But moments after Leeds’ consolation, Guardiola showed his anger by kicking a water bottle on the touchline.
Unfortunately for the Spaniard, he made a cleaner connection than expected and the bottle seemed to strike someone on the Leeds bench.
He reacted by putting his head into his hands and then rushing over to apologise.

And fans have been reacting to the hilarious moment on social media.
One said: “That’s an interesting take on ensuring the Leeds bench stay hydrated…”
Another chimed in with: “Oh dear who did he hit?! 😂.”
A third added: “He can’t leave this league man 😭😭😭.”

Overall though, Guardiola would have surely been content with what he saw after City comfortably ran out 3-1 winners.
His side mustered up 26 shots on goal and dominated the possession.
Guardiola said: “We played really well against this team in this stadium. We made a great performance in the second half, when they were a bit more open.
“After the World Cup, nobody knows how we were going to react and the way Leeds were playing lately. Today, with the ball, we were brilliant.
“The relationship between Rico Lewis and Rodri was brilliant in the middle of the pitch.”
And the City boss reserved special praise for Haaland, who reached 20 goals for the season after just 14 games.
Guardiola added: “He (Haaland) scored a lot of goals but he could have scored more. He help us a lot.”
Guardiola and City will be hoping to continue hunting down Arsenal when they host Everton on New Year’s Eve. More

Bellingham is ‘big risk’ and doesn’t know his position, says Hamann amid Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City transfer links

LIVERPOOL should be careful with their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham because he is a “big risk”, warns Dietmar Hamann. The Reds are rivalling the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid for Bellingham’s signature.

But Liverpool hero Hamann is a bit apprehensive when it comes to the midfielder’s asking price, which costs at least £100million.
The former Germany international also suggested that the 19-year-old is yet to fully understand his position on the field despite some stunning displays for England at the World Cup.
The pundit added that he also lacks the ability and pace of club legend Steven Gerrard.
Hamann told talkSPORT: “I’d be careful with Bellingham right now.
    Read More on Football
“He’s an exceptional talent, he showed that at the World Cup, but if Dortmund ask for £100m odd, £140-150m, it’s a big risk as well.
“I think with Bellingham he’s got to find a position. He models himself of Steven Gerrard but I don’t think he’s got the ability and pace going forward like Gerrard has.
“I think you need to wait and see where he finds his spot in the midfield two or midfield three in the future, and to pay £150m for an 18 or 19-year-old, I think it’s a big risk.”
Liverpool, however, may not have to worry too much about Bellingham’s asking price with recent reports suggesting there is a secret £60m clause in his contract.

But the Merseysiders will be facing strong opposition from Real who are big admirers of the England international and are set to accelerate their bid to land him.
Liverpool have already successfully tackled the transfer market by winning another bidding war for Cody Gakpo.
And Hamann is all for that deal as he insists his former club “needed a player like him”.

He added: “They have needed a player like him for the last few years. I don’t think they have enough of a goal threat from midfield.
“They are always a threat from set-pieces and that will be strengthened with his size and physicality…
“He is a great addition and I hope we see a lot of him in the next few weeks and months.” More

Man City ‘prepared to offer Jack Grealish in sensational transfer swap deal for AC Milan star Rafael Leao’

MANCHESTER CITY are considering offering Jack Grealish in a sensational swap deal with Rafael Leao, according to shock reports. The Etihad club would be keen to bring in the AC Milan and Portugal winger as they battle Chelsea and Arsenal for his signature.

Jack Grealish has struggled to make his mark at Manchester CityCredit: Getty
But according to Calciomercatoweb, they may offer their record signing to help seal the deal.
However, it is unclear if Milan would be open to an exchange as they have concerns over Grealish’s age and his whopping £300,000-a-week wages.
The 27-year-old – who did a shift as an Amazon driver for a Christmas promo – has struggled to find his Prime form since his £100million transfer from Aston Villa in 2021.
He has delivered just seven goals and four assists in 56 games so far under Pep Guardiola – including just one goal and zero assists this term.

And it is thought the City manager may be willing to let the England star go to bring in Leao, who has just 18 months left on his San Siro contract.
Leao, 23, is attracting plenty of interest with his strong performances on the left wing over the last three years.
This term, the wide man has seven goals and nine assists in 20 appearances.
And he starred in his cameos at the World Cup with goals in the wins over Ghana and Switzerland as Portugal reached the quarter-finals.

Leao is focused on his return to action with Milan on January 4 – but admitted he may well be open to a switch and has been enjoying watching Arsenal a lot this term.
Asked about a possible transfer to a new league, the ex-Lille ace said: “Yes, in the future.
“But now, I’m 100 per cent focused on Milan.
“I’m at a top club and I’m under contract. I also like the city.
“I’ve seen a lot of games this year, I like Arsenal, I think they play very well.”
AC Milan chief executive Paulo Maldini is confident his club do not have to sell from a financial perspective – but admitted every player has a price tag.
The former defender said on Leao: “He is a player of the highest level.
“But not only him, also others have received offers.
“If they show up anyway we have to see how to do it even if we don’t need to sell, our financial accounts are okay.
“But the players that cannot be sold now no longer exist.”
City are also very hopeful of signing Jude Bellingham next year.

The Borussia Dortmund ace, 19, is a top transfer priority for City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
But as revealed by SunSport, the reigning Premier League champions are confident the midfielder will snub a move to Anfield or the Bernabeu to play under Guardiola. More

But Etihad sources reckon the prospect of working with Guardiola will swing the Dortmund star’s decision in their favour.
Bellingham, 19, is wanted by the biggest clubs on the planet — including Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson tried to convince Bellingham Anfield was the place for him while they were in Qatar for the World Cup.
The Birmingham City youth product has been the top target for Kop boss Jurgen Klopp for more than a year and is aware how much the German wants to work with him.

Asked about a January move, Klopp said: “I’m the wrong person to ask about whether Jude is available in January.
“The January window? We are looking and if something happens, we’ll see. From a sports side, we are always prepared.”
SunSport also told how United boss Erik ten Hag is plotting a £200m raid for Bellingham and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
City think they can seal a Bellingham deal due to Guardiola signing to stay until 2025 and also the chance to reunite with his old Borussia Dortmund pal Erling Haaland.

All of his suitors have been told that Bellingham will prioritise football reasons over money when he picks his next club.
He is expected to leave Germany in the summer and City are prepared to shatter the £100m British transfer record they paid to Aston Villa for Jack Grealish in the summer of 2021.
Bellingham is valued at £130m by Dortmund if the deal is structured with staggered payments like most mega-money moves.
However, it is understood that he could leave for just £83m if the entire fee is paid up front.
City see signing Bellingham as the ideal way to revamp their midfield in the future.
Ilkay Gundogan, 32, is out of contract in the summer.
And Bernardo Silva is unsure over his future, with Barcelona having tried to sign him last summer. More
