Chelsea ‘had pants pulled down’ in £300m January transfer splurge with Blues still way off Man City, claims Murphy

CHELSEA had their “pants taken down” after splashing over £300million in the January transfer window. That is according to Danny Murphy, who claims the Blues paid over the odds and still have a team in which the majority of their starting line-up would never make it at Manchester City.

The West Londoners had a very busy January transfer window that saw owner Todd Boehly spend a staggering £326m on eight signings.
In fact, Graham Potter’s side spent as much this month as the entire Premier League did in January 2022.
Chelsea also shattered the British transfer record by splurging a whopping £107m for Enzo Fernandez on deadline day.
But Murphy claims the London giants were “bent over” as he believes Fernandez doesn’t justify the highest fee in Premier League history.

The Liverpool hero admits the 2022 World Cup’s Best Young Player is a good midfielder but not as good as City’s Rodri and Manchester United’s Casemiro.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “I think they are overpaying for players and I still don’t think the majority of their first XI gets anywhere near City’s team.
    “Not really [impressed].
“I watched a few of his [Fernandez] games live. He’s decent, but not worth £100m. They’ve been absolutely bent over there.

“He’s a good midfielder, tenacious, young, gets on the ball and is brave. But he’s not Rodri, not Casemiro.
“They are overspending on players and people are seeing them coming and they are taking their pants down.”

He has scored 31 goals in 27 appearances for the Cityzens already and is one of the most-sought after strikers on the planet.
Haaland and a host of other footballing stars were rocked in May 2022 when their super-agent Mino Raiola passed away aged 54.
But before the Italian died, he had asked his close ally, Brazilian lawyer Rafaela Pimenta, to take over the reins of his business.
Now she is the one who looks after the best interests of Haaland and the rest of the iconic names the company has on-board.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
This week she sat down with Spanish publication AS to discuss the future of the hotshot – and she could not help hinting at a future to switch to LaLiga as she highlighted her and Raiola’s good relationship with Barcelona and their president Joan Laporta.
Pimenta said: “I always say that Laporta can’t ask me for anything in football, he’s not fair, because he knows I’m going to say ‘yes’.
She did move to quickly ease the fears of City fans as she insisted that he is “married” to the club, whom he is under contract to until 2027.
And then she revealed what she thought Haaland’s transfer value was, and with so many additional aspects including fans, digital content, notoriety and sponsors, she believes it tops the £1BN mark.

Primenta added: “I know that nobody is going to pay 700 million for a player, but I am very clear that the value that Erling adds when he arrives at a club is immense, at least 1,000 million.”
For 18 years, Pimenta was Raiola’s right-hand woman – working by his side and learning the ropes.
She was entrusted as a vital cog in his affairs, as well as a brain to lean on for advice.
Their paths first crossed in around 1998 at launch event for a small Sao Paulo club called Guaratingueta, which she helped set up with Brazilian legends Rivaldo and Cesar Sampaio.
At the time, she was also a university professor of international law when she was lured into the world of football.
While before that, Pimenta worked for an antitrust team set up by Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
But the chance meeting between Pimenta and Raiola was the beginning of a fruitful relationship – and they would go on to work for 18 years together, before his untimely death. More

According to the Mail, the reigning Premier League champions are keeping tabs on both Maddison and Bellingham and are considering a move in the summer.
However, the Citizens are facing competition from some of Europe’s fellow elite for both targets.
Borussia Dortmund ace Bellingham has stood out in the Bundesliga as well as the 2022 World Cup and attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid.
City have also entered the bidding war but manager Pep Guardiola wants more goals from those behind Erling Haaland.

That is why the Manchester giants are also keeping tabs on Leicester star Maddison, who has registered seven goals and four assists in 16 appearances across all competitions this season.
Leicester are increasingly unlikely to hold on to the versatile midfielder this summer.
The England international has only 18 months left on his current deal and doesn’t appear keen on extending.
The Foxes also want to avoid repeating the same mistake they made with Youri Tielemans, who will be able to leave for free come June.

However, Newcastle are still keeping tabs on the 26-year-old after having two offers denied last summer as they didn’t match Leicester’s £60million valuation.
More Premier League clubs have also asked about Maddison’s availability in the January transfer window.
City may also go for an attacker, with AC Milan ace Rafael Leao and Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia linked. More

Man City flop Kalvin Phillips wanted by three Premier League clubs on loan transfer including Everton

SEAN DYCHE is one of three managers to ask about taking Kalvin Phillips on loan – but Manchester City are refusing to do business.New Everton chief Dyche saw Phillips as the ideal midfield general to spearhead their survival fight, and hoped his lack of game time at the Etihad meant a deal could be struck.

Yet despite a nightmare first few months at Man City – injuries and fitness struggles have limited him to one start and seven cameos off the bench – Pep Guardiola said no-go.
Rodri has nailed down the defensive midfield role and has made more starts than anyone at the club.
But Guardiola believes Phillips, a £42million summer buy from Leeds, will have an important part to play in a hectic schedule when the Champions League returns.
Leeds also asked about taking him back to Elland Road for the rest of the season, as did West Ham, who lost out to City when he moved in August.

Phillips is yet to start a Premier League game for City and has not registered a goal contribution in any of his eight appearances.
After the World Cup, Guardiola accused the England midfielder of returning to the club overweight.
He said: “He’s not injured – he arrived overweight.
“I don’t know [why]. He didn’t arrive in the condition to do training sessions and to play.”

But less than a week later, the Spanish coach insisted Phillips was back in shape.
Guardiola said: “He has the perfect body now – so sexy. We will see for the weekend.
“He has spent the first part of the season out with surgery to arrive for the World Cup – and did everything to get to the World Cup.
“It’s not just about just being fit you also have to understand what we want to do, the movements etc.
“So that means, as quick as possible, because Rodri cannot play all the games, so as quick as possible he he will play.
“But I’m happy that yesterday for example Kalvin trained really well and sooner or later he will play.” More

Cancelo’s game time has drastically reduced since he returned from the World Cup.
According to the Daily Mail his relationship with manager Guardiola was strained as a result.
And it reached boiling point after Cancelo was again overlooked in City’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday.
The pair are believed to have had heated conversations over the last few weeks, with the Portuguese spotted in a slump on the bench as he watched his team-mates warm up ahead of a clash against Wolves.

Cancelo has reportedly been a disruptive influence on the squad in recent weeks.
And his relationship with Guardiola is said to be irreparable, with the club allowing Cancelo to leave.
Cancelo has fallen out of favour with Guardiola tweaking his system and has started only three of the 10 fixtures since returning from international duty – he was also hooked at half-time against Chelsea.
He may have already made his final appearance for the Citizens as Bayern have the option to make his move permanent for £61.5million.

That would see the English champs make a small profit on the player they signed in a £60m deal three-and-a-half years ago.
Even so, it would still be a surprise move for Man City given their well-documented problems in the full-back areas.
But that problem could be solved by the signing of Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell, who was of interest to City before he moved to Stamford Bridge. More
