However, this move failed, and fast forward eight months the La Liga leaders are once again set to try and land the 28-year-old.
According to The Telegraph, Silva’s future at the club is “uncertain.”
And Spanish outlet Sport have reported Silva’s intention is to leave the Premier League.
Silva has once again enjoyed a strong season at the Etihad, scoring three goals and adding five assists in 23 Premier League games.

But with the Cityzens falling behind in the title race to Arsenal, Pep Guardiola has reshuffled his tactical layout.
This has seen Silva deployed like an auxiliary left-back, filling in and helping City in buildup from their defensive third.
Despite the change in position, Silva has continued to excel, ranking well in a number of metrics.
These include ranking ninth in the division for progressive carries, 13th in goal-creating actions and 17th for tackles in the middle third.

However, they will need to pay up the reported £71m asking price (€80m).

City have won four of the last five Premier League seasons – but are in a major battle with Arsenal this term.
Now Teamtalk state Rice is high on the Etihad wishlist for a summer switch.
Guardiola is up against former assistant Mikel Arteta, neighbour Erik ten Hag and Graham Potter to land the West Ham captain, who has rejected a contract extension at the London Stadium.
David Moyes has insisted the Hammers would demand at least £100million for the academy graduate and England regular.

But City – who also want fellow Three Lions star Jude Bellingham – could make room and funds for Rice by selling a number of midfielders.
Kalvin Phillips only arrived from Leeds for £42m last summer but has made just 11 appearances and just two starts – one in the FA Cup and one in the League Cup – in an injury-hit campaign.
The reports suggests the midfielder could be moved on to make space for Rice while Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan have both been linked with Barcelona.
Mateo Kovacic is a surprise transfer target for City, too, as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his current Chelsea contract – as does Leicester’s James Maddison – while World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister is another name linked.

Left-backs Ben Chilwell and Antonee Robinson are both possible replacements for Joao Cancelo if he makes his Bayern Munich move permanent while in-demand defender Josko Gvardiol could also be targeted.
It means City’s starting XI could look very different next season- although the likes of Ederson, Ruben Dias, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish are surely safe.

Man Utd paying more wages than any other Premier League club as struggling Liverpool overtake City in salary table

MANCHESTER UNITED are paying more wages than any other Premier League club while Liverpool have overtaken Man City in the salary table.Top-flight sides have been releasing their financial accounts for the 2021/22 season and the figures show that the Red Devils were selling out the most on wages at £384m.

United did still have Cristiano Ronaldo on their books, who was pocketing £480,000-a-week, last term.
And his departure to Al-Nassr in December following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan has led to the £375,000-a-week David De Gea returning to top of the highest-earners at Old Trafford.
United are followed by Liverpool, whose wage bill has increased by a whopping 75 per cent since 2017.
The Reds announced they only made a £7.5m pre-tax profit last season as they jumped ahead of Man City into second.

New contracts for the likes of Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all have played a part in that.
Mo Salah has now also signed a new £350,000-a-week contract – but that package which made him their highest-paid player is not taken into account in these figures.
That has left Liverpool’s wage bill just £18m less than United’s last term, a gap that was £56m back in 2017.
Man City’s £354m yearly salary could still be overtaken by Chelsea, who are yet to release last season’s numbers.

Kevin De Bruyne, who pockets £400k on a weekly basis, is top dog with regards to wages at the Etihad while Kai Havertz, on £310,00-a-week, was the highest-earner at Stamford Bridge during the last campaign.
Meanwhile, Tottenham forked out more on player salaries than North London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs had a whopping 66 per cent increase from £127m in 2017 to £209m.
Arsenal’s wage bill also increased, but that was from £195m to £206m.
Thomas Partey was the top earner at Arsenal, but Gabriel Jesus is the new one on £265k-a-week after his summer arrival for Man City. More

Sam Allardyce reveals he was almost Man City manager with deal ‘done and dusted’ for Bolton legend to become boss

He was in charge of the Trotters from 1999 to 2007 and led them from the Championship to the Uefa Cup while bringing in a host of star names such as Jay-Jay Okacha and Nicholas Anelka.
However, the summer he left the club for a short and ill-fated spell at Newcastle could have ended up very differently according to the 68-year-old.
Speaking to William Hill and Footy Accumulators’ No Tippy Tappy Football, a series in which Allardyce and host Natalie Pike discuss the big stories surrounding the 2022/23 Premier League and beyond, he said: “I was going to be the Manchester City manager when Stuart [Pearce] left in 2007.
“That was a deal that was done and dusted which was going to happen with John Wardle and David Makin, the owners of JD Sports.

“I think that they wanted me to come and help rebuild the club because they’d seen what I had done at Bolton.
“I’d left Bolton and was ready to go into the job and of course the day before it was due there was a phone call from either John or Dave to say ‘I’m very sorry Sam but we’ve sold the club and they want Sven-Goran Eriksson.’

“That was a disappointment but I ended up at Newcastle, so it looked like it was going in the right way at Man City and that changed unfortunately for me when the ownership changed, but Mike Ashley took over from Freddie Shepherd at Newcastle who chose me as manager.”
Allardyce went on to manage Blackburn, West Ham and Sunderland before landing the England job – only to be infamously sacked after just one game in charge.

Big Sam then saved Crystal Palace from the drop before replacing Ronald Koeman in the Everton dug-out back in 2017/18 with the Blues deep in a relegation fight.
He spent just six months there but he guided them away from danger and to an eighth place finish.
Allardyce then ended up at West Brom midway through the 2020/21 campaign and was tasked with a similar job, but he was unable to stop the Baggies from sliding into the Championship which led to his departure and he has not managed since. More

Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked with the ex-Birmingham City midfield ace.
We reported last month how Newcastle had now joined the transfer chase, while Real Madrid have also held a heavy interest in signing the teenage sensation.
Los Blancos have been trying to work on a deal for some time with their chief scout Juni Calafat already “taking care of relations” with Bellingham’s father, Mark, who manages his son’s career.
But there was a growing feeling that they “are becoming resigned to the fact that the financial muscle of the Premier League is almost unbeatable”.

However, after famously missing out on Kylian Mbappe last summer, the England international has been made one Madrid’s “main targets” for the next transfer window.
That is according to Spanish publication Sport, who also claim that fellow World Cup star Gvardiol is the other.
Chelsea have targeted the Croatian defender for several months and tried to sign him in January.
But after Gvardiol scored for RB Leipzig against Manchester City in the Champions League Round of 16 last week his manager Marco Rose issued a hands off warning.

The ace is under contract until 2027 – but that does not appear to be deterring Madrid.
Los Blancos are allegedly preparing for the departure of midfield veterans Toni Kroos and Luka Modric at the end of the season along with defender Nacho Fernandez.
And they look set to go all-out to bring in the young duo to bolster their ranks and replace them. More
