Chelsea and Man Utd transfer boost as Leicester’s top-four flop opens door for Ben Chilwell exit

LEICESTER’S failure to secure Champions League football is set to cost them the chance to persuade Ben Chilwell his future remains at the club.
Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in the England star.

Leicester’s failure to secure Champions League football is set to cost them the chance to persuade Ben Chilwell his future remains at the club
The Foxes had hoped to be able to offer top-level European football as a carrot to convince him to stay at the King Power.
But their late-season collapse saw a top-four finish slip through their fingers with 23-year-old Chilwell’s two suitors making the cut instead.
There would be more money on offer if Chilwell did push for a move but that is not the only factor in making his mind up.
He also wants to cement his place as England’s first-choice left-back with the Euros looming — and Champions League football helps his cause.

But manager Brendan Rodgers went on record to announce Chilwell is not for sale.
He said: “He’s not a player we want to lose. I’m quite relaxed on it. I’m not worried at all.
“We’ve got a fantastic squad that we want to keep together so I don’t worry.
“You can spin it whichever way you want. There is no intention to sell Ben Chilwell and there is absolutely no need for us to sell Ben Chilwell.

“If you want a message, the message is he’s not for sale.”
Leicester have decided against the permanent signing of Wolves centre-back Ryan Bennett.
The Foxes had the option to buy him for £5million but he will now return to Molineux.

Man Utd transfer target Jack Grealish worried Aston Villa’s £80m demands will price him out of summer move

JACK GREALISH faces being priced out of a major summer move.
Aston Villa want a huge £80million for their star man after his goal at West Ham helped keep them in the Premier League.

But top clubs are unlikely to pay that for Grealish, 24, and Villa will play hardball.
They are desperate to keep hold of the midfield ace, who earns around £100,000 a week.
He came close to joining Tottenham in 2018 but Villa’s owners blocked the move.
Grealish has expressed a desire to play European football but his employers are confident he will pledge his long-term future to his boyhood team.

Manager Dean Smith took his Villa squad for celebratory drinks after the 1-1 draw at West Ham secured top-flight status.
Asked about Grealish on talkSPORT, Smith joked: “I gave him a few shots last night and got him to sign a new five-year contract.
“It’s not been done yet . . . it was written in sambuca, I’m not sure if it was mine or his!
“Jack’s a wonderful lad and I’ve got all the time in the world for him and I’m so pleased that he scored the goal that kept us in the Premier League.”

The Villa boss was so sozzled after the boozy celebration he slept over in his office.
And despite Roy Keane criticising the team’s jubilant celebrations in the London Stadium changing room, Smith said: “What time did I get to bed? I am not sure.
“But I am not great as it was a heavy night.
“I slept in my office at the training ground. I slipped off so the lads didn’t see me go.
“They were right to go and celebrate. Some had written us off and had us relegated ten games ago but what a turnaround.
“We have given the lads three weeks off and I will sit down with the chief executive, sporting director and the owners.

“We need to be smart in the market. There has been such a big turnaround of players.
“I am really proud of the players and how they adapted to the Premier League. It has taken time.
“I said to the players in the dressing room after the game, this feels better than getting promoted.”

Man Utd transfer target Thiago Almada keen on Leeds move saying he ‘wants to be coached by Marcelo Bielsa’

MANCHESTER UNITED target Thiago Almada has dealt the club a blow by revealing that he is keen on a move to Leeds.
The Argentine playmaker, dubbed the new Lionel Messi, has been attracting the attention of Europe’s football giants.

The 19-year-old Velez Sarsfield star has netted four goals in Argentina’s top division this campaign.
SunSport previously revealed that Pep Guardiola has been chasing Almada for a year as he sees him becoming David Silva’s long-term successor.
The teenager is also reported to be a top summer target for both United and Arsenal.
But Leeds may have the edge ahead of a busy transfer window after returning to the Premier League.

Boss Marcelo Bielsa has been linked with a host of Argentinian talents, with Ole reporting that Almada is one of a five-man shortlist.

I would like Bielsa to coach me. My friends sent me something about Bielsa, but I am calm. Whether it happens or not, we have to see
    Thiago Almada

The wonderkid has since been asked about the rumours and admitted he would love to play under his compatriot at Elland Road.
He told TyC Sports: “I would like Bielsa to coach me.
“My friends sent me something about Bielsa, but I am calm. Whether it happens or not, we have to see.

“I don’t watch much soccer, but I saw some Leeds highlights and I saw something similar to what we did in Velez with (Gabriel) Heinze.”
Almada is believed to have a £19million release clause in his contract but both Manchester clubs were hoping to negotiate a smaller fee.

SunSport previously cited sources in South America that say the teenager was enthusiastic about the possibility of moving to City.
Almada is reported to see Carlos Tevez as one of his footballing idols according to claims from his camp.
The Velez Sarfield star is believed to have been inspired by Tevez’s spell at City where he scored 58 goals in four seasons.

Man Utd youngster Ben Hockenhull joins Brentford after centre-back had starred for Old Trafford youth sides

MANCHESTER UNITED have announced that academy defender Ben Hockenhull has joined Championship club Brentford.
The 18-year-old has joined the Bees reserve side on a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

Hockenhull has been at United since he was nine years old and featured 22 times for the Under-18s side over the last years.
The Red Devils had extended his contract to December after the Academy season was ended early due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
And United have now helped Hockenhull secure the move to promotion-chasers Brentford following interest from a variety of clubs.
The club’s B head coach Neil MacFarlane said: “First and foremost, Ben is coming from a top football club. He’s somebody that has fantastic presence on the pitch.

We think there is lots more development in Ben and he will be a great addition to the squad.
Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane

“As a centre-back, size is important in English football, but he’s got much more to his game than that.
“He’s fantastic on the ball and in possession, and with us being a possession-based team, that will stand him in good stead.
“We think there is lots more development in Ben and he will be a great addition to the squad.
“I’ve met Ben and his family, they are fantastic people, and that’s a big thing at this football club in that we bring in good characters. Ben is very level-headed and has got real drive and passion to do well at Brentford.”

Hockenhull will link up with Brentford B from 27 July, a day after the senior side will be competing in the Championship play-offs at Swansea.
The west Londoners narrowly missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League this season following a 2-1 loss to Barnsley on the final day.
A United club statement read: “Everybody at Manchester United would like to wish Ben well for the future following his departure.”

Man Utd and Chelsea join Man City in Nathan Ake transfer fight as £35m Bournemouth defender considers his future

NATHAN AKE is in no rush to chase a move to Manchester City – because he could have his pick of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs this summer.
City have made the first tentative contact with Bournemouth about a potential £35million deal for the Dutch international defender.

    1

Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake is a man in demandCredit: Rex Features
Boss Pep Guardiola is desperate to strengthen the weakness in his defence which cost them the chance of challenging Liverpool for the title this season.
But SunSport understands there is unlikely to be any quick switch finalised because Ake, 25, is likely to be a man in demand over the coming two months.
Chelsea still retain a buy-back option on the centre-back who came through their academy system.
And the London club have been monitoring his progress closely as Frank Lampard wants someone to improve his own back line before the new season.

And Ake could cost just half the price of another of their targets Declan Rice.
Manchester United have quietly made their interest known as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to increase his own defensive options ahead of what he hopes is a title challenge next season.
So there is no rush for Ake, who will be classed as a home grown player given his education at Stamford Bridge, to make a quick decision over his future.

Bournemouth know they will be unable to stand in Ake’s way of moving if they fail in their efforts to avoid relegation from the top flight this weekend.
The Cherries could be relegated as early as tonight if relegation rivals Watford pick up anything from their game at home to Man City.

Five keepers who could replace out-of-form De Gea at Man Utd including Oblak and Donnarumma after howlers vs Chelsea

DAVID DE GEA is walking a tightrope at Manchester United.
The club’s highest paid player – who signed a new £375,000-a-week deal last September – has made a series of shocking blunders.

    5

De Gea is having a torrid time between the sticks for United at present and could see his No1 spot under threatCredit: Guardian News & Media / Free to use by all titles in perpetuity under NMC agreement

    5

Chelsea were the latest to benefit from this butter fingers, with Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud finding the goal in the Blues’ 3-1 FA Cup semi-final win.
Former Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho was one of those to question giving the Spaniard a new contract.
And, based on current evidence, you would say he has been proven right.
With his future up in the air – despite the backing of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – here are five keepers who could replace De Gea.

    Dean Henderson – Sheffield United
    No doubt on this one.
The United loanee has been mightily impressive for Sheffield United and Solskjaer has told him he will be the club’s No 1 – but in the future.
They say there is no time like the present, though, so another De Gea mistake could see Henderson fast-tracked before the start of next season.

    Jan Oblak – Atletico Madrid
Chelsea seem hellbent on securing the services of the man regarded by many as the best keeper in the business.

Atleti assistant German Burgos recently confirmed the Blues’ interest in the £90million-rated Slovenia keeper.
And, really, it comes as no surprise.
The 27-year-old has a wealth of experience and in 38 LaLiga appearances this season kept a clean sheet in 17 games while conceding just 27 goals.

    Gianluigi Donnarumma – AC Milan
The 21-year-old sensation is set to open talks on a new deal at Milan – but United could possibly swoop in for the right price.
Boss Stefano Pioli says he has the potential to become the best goalie in the world.
Donnarumma has 12 clean sheets in 32 Serie A games this season and, even at such a young age, is nearing 200 games for his current side.
    Andre Onana – Ajax
Onana is another Chelsea target that Solskjaer will have to steal a march on.
The 24-year-old is rated at around £26m but the Stamford bridge outfit would happily pay that cost if it means replacing error-prone record-signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Cameroon No1 Onana might be slightly less coveted than the rest though, with just eight clean sheets in 24 Eredivisie appearances last season.

    Unai Simon – Athletic Bilbao
No keeper’s worth has rocketed as much as the man who replaced Kepa at Bilbao.
And even so he would be a relative snip given his current valuation of around £14.4m, according to transfermarkt.co.uk.
Simon kept 13 clean sheets in LaLiga in the season just gone and conceded just 29 goals.
He is viewed by many as the league’s third best shot-stopper behind Oblak and Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois.

Juventus join Man Utd in transfer race for Raul Jimenez and make Arsenal striker Lacazette backup target

JUVENTUS have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Raul Jimenez from Wolves, according to reports.
Tuttosport claim the Italian side are set to make a move for striker Jimenez and are likely to offload Douglas Costa to fund a deal.

Raul Jimenez has excelled for Wolves in the Premier League

    2

Alexandre Lacazette is another option for Juventus
But if a move for United target Jimenez does not materialise the Old Lady have lined up a swoop for Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette as Plan B.
Jimenez has impressed since making his stay at Molineux permanent in July.
Wolves smashed their transfer record to land the player from Benfica for £32million and he has repaid their faith by bagging 26 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions this season.
The Mexican was previously urged to join the Red Devils this summer by his international boss.

Gerardo Martino feels the 29-year-old could be the classic No9 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for.
But Serie A champs Juve will provide plenty of competition for his signature and the lure of playing with Cristiano Ronaldo could prove too strong for Jimenez.

The pair are both represented by Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes which could give the Bianconeri the edge in negotiations.
Jimenez could be the perfect foil for Ronaldo with the Mexican’s selfless play and hard pressing a great match for the former Real Madrid superstar.

Failing that, Juventus could test Arsenal’s resolve with an offer for Lacazette but are also keen on Napoli man Arkadiusz Milik and have one eye on Roma’s Edin Dzeko as they make back-up arrangements.

Man Utd ‘phone Victor Osimhen’s agent’ in bid to hijack Napoli’s transfer for Lille striker at last-minute

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly contacted Victor Osimhen’s agent in a late bid to hijack Napoli’s move for the Lille striker.
The Red Devils are one of many European clubs that have been linked with a summer transfer for the 21-year-old Nigerian.

SunSport previously reported that Serie A giants Napoli were believed to be on the verge of signing him after agreeing a £46million fee with Lille.
Yet respected journalist Ciro Venerato claimed that United have not given up the race to land Osimhen just yet.
He told CalcioNapoli24: “A few hours ago Manchester United phoned Osimhen’s new agent to find out if he had signed with Napoli.
“If an offer from United comes, there would not be many possibilities because they have an economic power superior to that of Napoli.”

Osimhen has quickly emerged as one of Europe’s top prospects following a breakout season in France.

    Ciro Venerato

The eight-cap Nigeria international has scored 18 goals in just 38 games for Lille this season, while laying on six assists.
While Napoli are thought to have negotiated Lille down to just £46m, Arsenal were recently told to fork out “close to what they paid for £72m Nicolas Pepe” last summer.
United meanwhile have been linked with a host of names ahead of a busy transfer window including Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish.

And Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that he will have cash to splash if he wants to.
The Norwegian said: “Manchester City and Liverpool, the last couple of seasons, have put the standard where it should be to win the league.
“We’ve developed over the season and you’re thinking, ‘Yeah, we’re not too far away’ and I’m very happy with the squad.
“If there are any good deals to be made and players to make us better of course we might have to spend some money on that but the squad is great to work with and it’s moving in the right direction.
“We’re still not where we want to be, close enough to challenge for the Premier League trophy but we take one step at a time.”
