Mason Greenwood handed Martial’s old Man Utd No11 shirt after stunning rise.. with No7 still free for Jadon Sancho

MASON GREENWOOD has been rewarded for his outstanding breakthrough season with Manchester United’s famous No11 shirt.
And the Red Devils have left another of their other special numbers free for the arrival of Jadon Sancho.

Forward Greenwood, 18, wore the No26 jersey while scoring 17 goals for ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last term.
That form led to a first England call-up by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming Nations League clashes.
And now he looks set to play another huge role at United after he was handed Ryan Giggs’ old number.
Former winger Giggs played nearly a thousand games for United between 1991 and 2014.

Since his retirement Adnan Januzaj was given it for two years until Anthony Martial got it when his No9 was handed to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2016 by Jose Mourinho.
But the Frenchman reclaimed that number last summer after Romelu Lukaku departed for inter Milan, which left the No11 jersey vacant.
That means the formidable front three of Martial, Marcus Rashford and Greenwood will done the traditional attacking numbers of 9, 10 and 11 respectively.
However, it is the absence of another famed shirt number in the latest squad list that has got fans talking.

The historic No7, worn in recent times by both David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, has still not been allocated.
Big-money signings Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez were each given the shirt upon their arrivals at Old Trafford but all flopped.

Now the Stretford End are hoping that the lack of a No7 is a sign that United are closing in on Borussia Dortmund’s England winger Sancho.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to the club all summer, although his price tag is currently holding up the transfer.
However, that has not stopped supporters from believing it is only a matter of time before United make a breakthrough so he can claim the number seven.

Alexis Sanchez reveals he wanted to QUIT Man Utd transfer and return to Arsenal after his FIRST training session

The Chilean striker moved to Old Trafford in January 2018, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way.

But neither player managed to establish themselves at their respective new clubs.
Big things were expected of Sanchez when he signed his £505,000-a-week contract for United.
But that saw a miserable return of just five goals in 45 appearances in all competitions before he was shipped off on loan to Inter Milan.
Now, speaking to Pelotoros TV, the 31-year-old has revealed he felt instant regret after joining United.

He said: “After the first training session I had at Manchester United I realized many things.
“And when I got back home I told my agent if I could cancel the contract and go back to Arsenal.”
Sanchez ended up joining Inter permanently this summer, but he has failed to replicate his decent scorring record at Arsenal, managing just five goals in 30 games.
He netted 80 times in 166 games in all competitions for the Gunners.

After agreeing his move to Inter, Sanchez took a dig at his former employers United.
He said: “I’m really happy to be staying here with you, Inter fans.
“I’ve found a family here and the staff are great.
“It’s a group where there’s a real desire to win something big.
“People here want to fight together as a team to give the club the success it deserves.”
He is believed to have got a £9m pay-off to get his £505,000-a-week wages off the books.

Smalling and Rojo return to Man Utd training with futures up in air as Solskjaer plans more transfer dealings

DEFENSIVE pair Chris Smalling and Marcus Rojo were among the star names to return to Manchester United with their futures up in the air.
Smalling, 30, and Rojo, also 30, both spent last season out on loan.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrives in his Range Rover
But with their next moves yet to be sorted out, they were pictured arriving at Carrington for pre-season training.
Smalling, pictured driving a Ferrari, impressed at Roma last season with the Italians still keen to make a permanent move for the centre-half.
But United are holding out for £20million.
Another facing the axe at Old Trafford is playmaker Jesse Lingard, 27, who arrived for training in a Lamborghini.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – snapped arriving in his Range Rover – is a fan of Lingard, having coached him at youth level.
But the Old Trafford boss is open to selling the inconsistent playmaker if an acceptable offer comes in.
United have already signed 23-year-old Donny van De Beek for £40million and also want to bring in a defender.
Marcus Rashford, 22, who pulled out of England’s Nations League squad, was also pictured pulling into Carrington.

But team-mate Mason Greenwood, 18, got his first senior call up – and hailed his idol Rashford.
Greenwood said: “I’d say Marcus is my inspiration because he’s come through the same pathway.
“He’s helped me a lot, he’s done the same, he’s been in my position and knows how it feels.
“It’s nice to have someone like that, someone to look up to and I’ve played with him as well which is another bonus.
“He’s a good lad, we’re all proud of him, we’re all looking after him and it’s amazing what he’s trying to do.”

Man Utd may have to settle for Sergio Reguilon loan transfer despite tabling £27m bid for Real Madrid star

MANCHESTER UNITED may have to settle for signing Sergio Reguilon on-loan from Real Madrid despite making a £27million offer for him.
The 23-year-old has emerged as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target to fill in at left-back.

    1

The Spaniard was believed to be free to leave the Bernabeu this summer after an impressive season-long loan at Sevilla.
Reguilon, 23, is behind Ferland Mendy and Marcelo in the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane.
Despite interest from Tottenham, Paris-Saint Germain, Napoli and Juventus, United are believed to be the only side to have tabled an offer.
That £27m bid was made this week – but they may only land the star for 12 months initially.

Reguilon is still under contract until 2023 and highly-rated by club Bernabeu chiefs after coming through the club’s academy.
And even though Zidane may be happy to sell in order to raise transfer funds, Madrid’s top brass could opt to only loan him out instead, claims Sport.
The defender is open to spending another year at Sevilla and is believed to be hopeful that a change of manager before his deal expires could still result in him being handed an opportunity in the future at Real.
That leaves United waiting on both Madrid and the full-back to make a decision.

Solskjaer secured his first signing of the summer this week with the £39m arrival of Donny van de Beek for Ajax.

Now he hopes to add Reguilon to his ranks over the coming days as he continues his Old Trafford overhaul.
Solskjaer is keen to bolster his options at left-back and provide competition for places.
Luke Shaw remains injury prone while Brandon Williams is regarded as one for the future after his breakthrough campaign.

Joshua King issues Man Utd come-and-get-me plea after Bournemouth relegation despite Tottenham transfer interest

JOSHUA KING has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Bournemouth striker King is determined to leave the south coast this summer following the Cherries’ relegation from the Premier League.

King, 28, who was on United’s books as a teenager, was the subject of a failed £20m bid from the Old Trafford giants in January.
The Norwegian ace said: “I will not lie, because I really wanted to go there in January, but what happened, happened.
“I know why things happened. We’ll just have to wait and see. There is a lot that is open.
“I have a dream to play in the Champions League.

“Whether it will happen this season or in two years, I do not know. But I have a dream about it that all boys have.
“What if United are still interested? That would be amazing. I was at United for five years and I learned lot there.”
King, currently on international duty with Norway, has also defended his decision not to return from his homeland to pre-season training with Bournemouth.
He said: “It did not make any sense for me to go back to England and be in quarantine, and then come here and be in quarantine.

“I also had a baby in April that I had not seen in 10 weeks, so I was allowed to stay in Norway until the gathering.”
“I am at the national team training and focusing on these two matches,” he said.
“I do not know what will happen in the future. Now my focus is on the national team and the matches on Friday and Monday.
“I am in the situation I am in.”
King’s agent has held talks with Tottenham while Newcastle and Italian side AC Milan are also monitoring his situation.

Man Utd failed in transfer bid for ‘next Pirlo’ Sandro Tonali as midfielder only had eyes for AC Milan, Brescia confirm

MANCHESTER UNITED missed out on Sandro Tonali because the midfield starlet is “in love” with AC Milan.
The Serie A side are set to beat United, city rivals Inter and Barcelona to the ace dubbed the ‘next Andrea Pirlo’.

    1

Like Pirlo, Tonali has come through the Brescia youth system and impressed on his debut campaign in the top-flight.
After his side succumbed to relegation last season, the 20-year-old is destined to return to Serie A with a deal in the offing with Milan.
According to Brescia owner Massimo Cellino, Tonali’s mind was made up as soon as the Rossoneri showed interest.

That will mean diverging from Pirlo’s career path, as the Juventus boss initially joined Inter – an opportunity also available to Tonali.

Cellino told Top Calcio 24, via Goal: “I know that [Inter chief] Beppe Marotta really wanted Tonali, and that Antonio Conte appreciated him, so I think his agent had agreed terms with Inter.
“He was determined and convinced that he was going to Inter, but all this time dragged on and it was practically the start of the new season with still nothing happening.
“As soon as AC Milan showed real interest, he did not want to listen to any other options.
“I also have a historically good rapport with Milan and we reached an agreement with Paolo Maldini quite quickly.

“We also had interest from Barcelona and Manchester United, but the lad is in love with Milan and went crazy once he heard of their offer, because he supports them.”
Milan are back in the Europa League next season and have splashed a fair amount of cash on Tonali.
A £9million loan move is due to be completed in the coming days and Milan can sign the Italian permanently for a further £9m, with £13m agreed as add-ons.
Cellino confirmed the deal ahead of Tonali’s medical, but admitted bigger offers had arrived from elsewhere.
The Italian claimed: “Those figures are correct, but we turned down £58m from Barcelona in January and about a dozen days ago Manchester United had offered £9m more than Milan.”

Man Utd set to make new Jadon Sancho transfer approach by finalising agent fees before submitting offer to Dortmund

MANCHESTER UNITED will finalise the salary and fees of Jadon Sancho’s agent before preparing an official bid, according to reports.
The Borussia Dortmund star remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target despite the acquisition of Donny van de Beek.

And Old Trafford chiefs are still chasing a deal even though the Bundesliga side insist on a £108million fee.
Dortmund chief Michael Zorc said last month the 20-year-old’s move looked off because United had missed the deadline to sign him.
But the Daily Mail claim the Red Devils will go back in for Sancho.
First, though, they will “sort out the salary and fees of intermediaries” before presenting an official bid.

They say that Sancho’s agent is understood to be Emeka Obasi of the Elite Project Group agency.
Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah are among the other players signed to the group.
United have been stung by whopping agent fees before.
Paul Pogba’s return to United for £89m in 2016 was said to have netted his agent Mino Raiola a cool £40m.

SunSport told you how United have been left frustrated by the player’s representatives as well as Dortmund’s refusal to deal with them directly.

The German club appointed an agent as an intermediary – who is said to have rejected an offer of £70m rising to £110m based on honours and appearances.
Still, Solskjaer will not give up until England star Sancho publicly claims he wants to stay at Dortmund.
Lucien Favre believes Sancho will remain in Germany and it is believed the only way a deal will go through is if the winger pushes for it.

Thiago ‘leaning towards Liverpool transfer’ but could be swayed to join Man Utd by Spanish and Brazilian stars

MANCHESTER UNITED may yet gazump Liverpool in the pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, according to reports.
Bayern Munich are widely believed to be ready to sell the playmaker ahead of his contract expiring in 12 months’ time.

Although Liverpool were thought to be leading the race to sign Thiago, Bild report on United contacting his representatives over a deal.
The Red Devils have only recently bagged attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek but may have their eye on more arrivals.
It is said that, while the Anfield giants possess a greater chance of challenging for titles next season, Old Trafford has its merits too.
Less competition for a starting place may appeal to the 29-year-old, as well as the make-up of the United squad.

A strong contingent of Spanish and South American players is reportedly important to Thiago.
The Spain international was born in Italy but raised in Brazil, who brother Rafinha and father Mazinho have played for.
Juan Mata, David De Gea, Andreas Pereira, Fred, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero would all fit into such a category from United, along with Portuguese-speaking stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
Liverpool boast a not inconsiderable Brazilian contingent of their own, including Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Alisson Becker.

    2

Reports suggest Thiago is still leaning towards a move to Merseyside with negotiations over a £27million switch ongoing.
Potentially involved in a deal is Georginio Wijnaldum.
Like Thiago, the Dutch midfielder is out of contract in 2021 and has a number of suitors, including Bayern and Barcelona.
