Man Utd ‘to make £21m transfer bid for Porto star Alex Telles this week’ but other offers from England could derail move

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ready to bid for Alex Telles amid rival interest for the Porto defender.
Having missed out on new Spurs signing Sergio Reguilon, the Red Devils remain in the market for a new left-back.

Telles, 27, has been linked to United on a number of occasions and the deal appears to be picking up momentum.
Spanish journalist Jose David Lopez claims a bid of around £21million will land in the coming days.
However, the deal could be scuppered by interested clubs around the Premier League and LaLiga.
Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keen after losing first-choice left-back Juan Bernat to a serious knee injury.

Porto opened their season with a 3-1 win over Braga on Saturday, which saw Telles bag a brace and set up the other.
The Brazil international insisted post-game that he is not thinking about his future.
But, with his contract up in June, his club are reportedly ready to cut a deal.
Telles told Sport TV: “I’m a guy who focuses a lot on work, people believe what they want, say what they want in the newspapers, but the most important thing is to be focused on my work.

“You know that and so do my team-mates, whatever happens, I’m focused on the club, I’m here, I’m playing.”
Whether Telles leaves or not is not concerning Porto coach Sergio Conceicao, who insists he will be happy so long as his club find a replacement.
He stated on the weekend: “I don’t think about it, the market is not about me.
“I am not a manager, I am a coach and I have to train the players I have. Obviously I would like to count on everyone and if someone else came in, I would not be upset at all.”

Man Utd target Alex Telles tells Porto fans he is not distracted by transfer talk after scoring twice against Braga

PORTO left-back Alex Telles has insisted he isn’t distracted by transfer talk amid interest from Manchester United.
The 27-year-old – who has been at the club since 2016 – has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford on a five-year deal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are back in for the Brazilian defender having missed out on Sergio Reguillon to Tottenham.
A fee of around £18million has been rumoured to be the price Porto are willing to do business at.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that United have been in contact with Telles’ agent, with the player to push to leave.
He tweeted on Saturday: “Manchester United priority: left back and right winger. Possible also a CB.

“Tonight #MUFC have been in contact again with Alex Telles agents. He will push to leave Porto on next few days. Man Utd are monitoring and considering an opening bid.”
But Telles has insisted that he is only focusing on his future at Porto after scoring twice for the club in the 3-1 win against Braga.
The ex-Inter Milan loanee told Sport TV: “I’m a guy who focuses a lot on work, people believe what they want, say what they want in the newspapers, but the most important thing is to be focused on my work.
“You know that and so do my teammates, whatever happens, I’m focused on the club, I’m here, I’m playing.”

Asked if he was close to leaving, he added: “I have people who work for me, I just have to focus on what my job is.
“If I knew anything, I wouldn’t need to have people working for me.

Man Utd defender Luke Shaw tells club ‘we need more players’ after Palace flop loss as United’s transfer activity slows

LUKE SHAW has called on the Manchester United board to buy more players in the wake of their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
A jaded-looking United have added only Donny van de Beek who came on to score on his debut on Saturday.

And left-back Shaw believes they are falling further behind their rivals by not strengthening further.
Shaw said: “We are a very good group, but personally I think we need more players to strengthen the squad.
“It can give us a boost. When you look around at how other teams are strengthening their teams, then we must also do it to keep up with the others.”
Shaw also revealed there was a no-holds-barred post-match inquest after Manchester United slumped to an opening-game defeat.

United were woeful and they knew it and Shaw says they have to use the midweek EFL Cup game away to Luton to do just that.
Shaw, 25, added: “A lot of things were said after the game and we need to put it to bed.
    “Possibly everything went wrong.
“We need to be very disappointed because we should be but forget about it and move on.

“We’ve got a big game on Tuesday, we need to win that and pick up momentum again. At the start of the season it’s always key to how the season will go ahead.”
Shaw pointed to United’s lack of pre-season preparation for a reason they were so “sluggish”.
It had only been 34 days since they had lost in the semi-finals of the Europa League to Sevilla.
Shaw said: “Personally from my point of view the pre-season that we’ve had altogether is not the correct way it should have been.
“On my first day back training you could have probably counted on one hand the number of people who were training.
“We have only been back a week all together. Look at teams who have been together a while, training, playing games.
“I think Palace have played quite a few more games than us and it showed. We lacked that fitness and confidence.

We paid the price, at times we were sluggish and weren’t at it.
    Luke Shaw

“We haven’t been able to prepare in the way that we wanted and that’s not an excuse because we have the quality of players to be able to win games like this but we weren’t up to it and we’ve been punished.
“It’s the start of a new season, we should have been fresh. We knew how Palace were going to play, sit in the block and try and stay on that, possibly all of their goals came from that.
“We paid the price and at times we were sluggish and weren’t at it.”
Shaw refused to blame the VAR controversy that handed Crystal Palace their second goal.
A harsh handball was awarded against Victor Lindelof. David De Gea saved from Jordan Ayew but was penalised for coming off his line and Wilfried Zaha fired home the retake.
Shaw continued: “No one even knew there was an incident going on, I don’t think I saw one person on the pitch actually complaining.
“Obviously shocked and surprise but nothing surprises me with VAR.
“Sometimes you ride your luck, maybe we did last season at times and got the benefit of that but we saw the other way round of it and we can’t blame that because we were so sloppy and not good enough.”

Spurs plot shock £30m transfer bid for Man Utd midfielder Jesse Lingard as Mourinho seeks reunion with ‘ignored’ ace

TOTTENHAM are plotting a shock £30million transfer bid for Jesse Lingard, according to reports.
The Manchester United midfielder, 27, has seen his career stagnate over the past two years since Jose Mourinho left Old Trafford.

But according to the Daily Star Sunday, the Special One is hoping to reignite his career in North London.
Lingard has struggled for game time and form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has not started a Premier League match since January.
The report adds the England international was fuming at being left out of the matchday squad for the opening game of the season against Crystal Palace.
It is even suggested Lingard has tried to reach out to the club for showdown talks over his future – but has been ignored.

The playmaker who came through the United academy and has 207 first-team appearances, came back from pre-season in peak condition but it appears he is not part of Solskjaer’s plans.
Bruno Fernandes is the first-choice No10 and has been in fine form since arriving last season.
So Mourinho may hope to capitalise on Lingard’s frustration and try to get the best out of him again – especially with Dele Alli’s future unclear.
Speaking during the 2018 World Cup, Lingard credited his then-United boss for his support and help.

“He’s played a massive part in my development and I can only thank him for that.”

Man Utd looking to offload Sergio Romero after keeper’s heartbreak at Europa League snub

MANCHESTER UNITED are looking to find keeper Sergio Romero a new club after his Europa League heartbreak.
The Argentinian, 33, was upset about being overlooked for the semi-final defeat by Sevilla.

He is now considering his future away from Old Trafford, sources close to the keeper have told SunSport.
Romero has been an understudy for several seasons but felt his big chance of fame was snatched away from him when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recalled David De Gea.
Now South American insiders claim ex-Sampdoria star Romero wants to go to a new club and play.
And United chiefs are open to him leaving and currently working on the idea.

The Romero development will impact on Dean Henderson, who last month signed a mega new five-year deal on £120,000 a week.
He could be loaned out if the Red Devils have cover and a club would pay his wages.
United’s transfer team had been looking for possible European clubs who were after a top keeper like Henderson for a year.
But now those plans have all been put on hold.

SunSport told you how Romero – who pockets £70,000 a week – was the Premier League’s highest benchwarmer last season.
He made £3.64m despite not playing a single minute in the top flight.
Everton had been looking at a move for Romero, according to reports, because he wanted to put pressure on Jordan Pickford.

Leeds plot second Dan James transfer raid as they offer Man Utd speedster regular games

LEEDS are planning a second attempt to sign speedy Welsh winger Dan James.
The 22-year-old was unveiled by the Yorkshire giants in January 2019 but his switch from Swansea collapsed on transfer deadline day.

He eventually joined Manchester United for £18million in June last year.
James — who played the first half of last night’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace — wants to give it a go at Old Trafford but has dropped down manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order.
And James could again be tempted by a move to Leeds, either permanently or on loan.
The Elland Road outfit think they can snatch him from the Red Devils for around £12m plus add-ons.

James would add even more firepower to their exciting attack – which for the second time in a row scored four goals, most recently in a 4-3 win over Fulham after the 4-3 defeat to Liverpool in their season opener.
A loan deal could also work but Leeds know James – whose struggles against Palace showed the need for United to sign Jadon Sancho – could be a big hit and his value might soar after this season.
Coach Marcelo Bielsa has been a long-time admirer of James and wants extra pace and variety in his front line.
Meanwhile, the Argentinian has brought in a surprise rule about his squad and their loan policy.

Several of the younger Elland Road players have been wanted by other clubs but Bielsa will not let them go until he has cover.
Midfielders Jordan Stevens and Robbie Gotts, both 20, are cleared to leave but only when another player arrives for Bielsa’s demanding training sessions.
The legendary boss must have the full number available for his preparations and will not let himself be caught short as he wants the whole of his squad to follow his precise instructions.

Man Utd wanted Ronaldo to go to Barcelona instead of Real Madrid in 2009 – meaning he could’ve played with Messi

MANCHESTER UNITED almost managed to get Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to link-up… for Barcelona.
Portuguese superstar Ronaldo shattered football’s transfer record in 2009 when he left Old Trafford to join Real Madrid for £80million.

Los Blancos had already splashed out on Xabi Alonso and Ballon d’Or winner Kaka in response to Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering debut season as manager the year before.
But they were almost denied the jewel in returning president’s Florentino Perez’s masterplan if Sir Alex Ferguson had got his way.
The legendary Scot was desperate to avoid losing Ronaldo to Real once he’d accepted that the former Sporting Lisbon winger was set to leave.
Fergie had even said back in 2008 that he wouldn’t sell Madrid a “virus” let alone his best player.

And according to Spanish newspaper AS, the United boss realised Barcelona were the only other club who could afford Ronaldo back in 2009.
The 78-year-old apparently contacted the Catalans to encourage a bid but the Portugal captain had already set his mind on a move to the Bernabeu.
Guardiola’s most notable signing that summer involved an infamous swap deal with Inter Milan involving Samuel Eto’o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But the acquisition of Ronaldo would have not only ushered in an era of pure dominance for Barcelona, but also have cancelled out his famed rivalry with Messi.

Whether Manchester City chief Pep could have managed to get the two to play together is up for debate, as he boasted an embarrassment of attacking riches while in charge of Barca.
While Arsenal legend Thierry Henry flourished for Barca on the left-wing, Ronaldo could have occupied the opposite flank to leave Messi in the hole behind Ibra.

Yaya Toure and Sergio Busquets may have had to share a spot on the substitutes bench with Spanish duo Xavi and Iniesta holding down the two spots in the middle.
Messi was asked by Mundo Deportivo earlier this year whether he would pass to Ronaldo if the two were on the same team.
The Argentine responded: “I guess so, in the end, yes.”

Man Utd ‘agree five-year deal with Porto’s Alex Telles’ but clubs haggle over transfer fee with PSG showing interest

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly agreed a five-year contract with Porto left-back Alex Telles.
It comes after Tottenham pipped them to the signing of Sergio Reguilon, who has joined Spurs from Real Madrid.

    1

Man Utd have reportedly agreed a five-year contract with Porto left-back Alex Telles

They have instead set their sights on 27-year-old Telles, and according to RMC, the player has agreed personal terms with United.
A transfer fee is yet to hashed out between the two clubs as PSG also remain interested in the defender.
United pulled out of the race to sign Reguilon, 23, due to Madrid’s insistence on inserting a buy-back clause into the deal.
And they turned their attention to Brazilian Telles, who is in the last year of his deal at Porto.

The Portuguese club risk seeing him leave for free at the end of the season if they don’t cash in now.
Telles’ renewal talks with Porto broke down after he asked for wages of up to £88,000 a week.
He joined the Portuguese champions in 2016 from Galatasaray and scored 13 goals with 12 assists in 49 appearances last season.
Telles is available without a buy-back clause and was previously on Chelsea’s radar before they signed Ben Chilwell for £50m from Leicester.
