Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rules out defensive transfers saying, ‘we’ve got good enough centre-backs here’

MANCHESTER UNITED will not be making any defensive transfers, according to boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian manager insisted his side’s defence is good enough and any issues are down to a lack of sharpness.

The Red Devils have turned in two unconvincing performances so far in the Premier League after being beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace last week before somehow rescuing a 3-2 win against Brighton on Saturday.
Up until now it has been a relatively quiet transfer window – much to the annoyance of fans – with only midfielder Donny van de Beek arriving for £39million.
And Solskjaer did nothing to suggest more signings are imminent despite many calling for a change at the back after United leaked five goals in two games.
After Bruno Fernandes’ penalty in the tenth minute of stoppage time gave United three points at the Amex, Solskjaer said: “We’ve got many defenders here and I put Eric [Bailly] on to bolster the defence, following the runs of [Leandro] Trossard and [Neal] Maupay.

“For me, we’ve got enough good centre-backs here at the moment.
“When you concede chances and concede goals, there are two different things you can look at – it’s either the team shape, or are there any individual mistakes.
“We’re not in our best shape of form, our shape isn’t there, we’re not sharp enough to stop crosses or follow the runs.
“We’re a little bit behind, that’s more structural mistakes than individual mistakes. I thought Victor [Lindelof] did well today.”

Despite Solskjaer’s confidence in his backline, some believe defensive frailties in midfield are also causing problems.
Former Liverpool ace Danny Murphy wrote in the Mail On Sunday: “Manchester United will continue to ship goals if he keeps on naming Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in the same line-up.
“Excellent creative players as they are, neither is good enough defensively to play together in a three-man midfield.
“That is certainly the case against any of the Big Six and on Saturday they were repeatedly caught out against Brighton.
“Their deficiencies put Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw under an enormous amount of pressure because they were constantly caught between following the Brighton wing-backs and the wide forwards.”

Man Utd ‘make shock transfer enquiry for Chelsea star N’Golo Kante’ with Inter Milan also chasing World Cup-winning star

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly made a shock enquiry for Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side face competition from Inter Milan to land the 2018 World Cup winner.

The Mirror reports United have made contact with the French midfielder’s advisors ahead of a potential deal.
Kante, 29, could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge by Frank Lampard if the club receive an acceptable offer.
But the report states the Red Devils will only sign him if he is prepared to take a large hit on his £300,000 a week wages.
Chelsea have already splashed out around £250million this transfer window and may look to balance the books.

Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and new keeper Edouard Mendy have all been bought in a bumper spending spree.
It was reported earlier this month that The Blues were looking for a bid of around £55m to let the two-time Premier League champion go to Old Trafford.
Solskjaer has admired Kante from afar for a while and believes he could add some extra steel to his options in the middle of the park.
The Norwegian has already added Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £39m but could strengthen his midfield ranks even further.

Kante has three years left on the contract he signed in 2018 so United will have to cough up a reasonable sum to lure him away from West London.
Boss Antonio Conte signed ‘the nicest man in football’ from Leicester in 2016 and together they won the title at Chelsea the following year.
And the Inter Milan manager is said to be keen on bringing him to Serie A so the pair can be reunited at the San Siro.

Man United must drop Sancho transfer and make centre back a priority, says Rio Ferdinand as he slams ‘terrible’ defence

MANCHESTER UNITED should put the Jadon Sancho transfer on hold and sort out the ‘terrible’ defence, says club legend Rio Ferdinand.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side made a miserable start to the new Premier League season with a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

Victor Lindelof in particular came in for criticism for his performance, with captain Harry Maguire also slammed in some quarters.
And Ferdinand believes the back-line should be the ‘priority’ – even pushing back United’s long pursuit of Sancho.
Speaking to BT Sport ahead of United’s trip to Brighton, the 41-year-old said: “There’s no point showing them the Palace game back to help them, they’ve been like that in the Europa League semi final, the FA Cup semi final. Nothing changes.
“It was terrible to see. As a centre-back you need to have the ability to smell danger and they never had it.

“This was an area I’ve been mentioning for many months. It’s still not been addressed.
“I want Jadon Sancho, he’s a generational talent but the centre back position should be a priority over anywhere else in the transfer window.”
SunSport has exclusively revealed that United are planning at least two more signings this window.
But a centre-half is not believed to be one of them.

SunSport understands the club are looking to land both Sancho and Alex Telles within the coming weeks.
And Solskjaer, chief exec Ed Woodward and transfer guru Matt Judge are in constant discussions to get the deals over the line.
United are believed to be confident of landing Sancho, with a £90million offer to Borussia Dortmund in the works.
The 20-year-old England winger is keen on a move to Old Trafford, but will not force through a transfer.
Meanwhile, the club are in talks with Porto over a swoop for Telles, with Porto demanding around £18m.
However, the Red Devils are reluctant to pay that much for a 27-year-old left-back in the final year of his contract.
It is understood United have had more than 15 players proposed to them by agents in the past week alone.

Man Utd fans convinced Alex Telles is set to complete transfer from Porto after left-back ‘likes’ Evra post on Instagram

MANCHESTER UNITED fans believes Alex Telles is on his way after the Porto defender ‘liked’ a post by Red Devils legend Patrice Evra.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly closing in on a deal to bring the left-back to Old Trafford.

He will provide competition for Luke Shaw – but the two clubs are still some way apart on the fee.
Before United’s visit to Brighton, Evra uploaded a clip from the past showing him being screamed at by then boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Frenchman’s caption explained that Fergie went mad at him for passing the ball backwards – he says he listened and went on to be man of the match.
The post was liked by Telles – sending United fans into meltdown.

After the screenshot was posted on to Twitter, it certainly didn’t go unnoticed.
Many wrote ‘here we go’, hinting that the transfer must be close.
Joshua Lewis wrote that he was ‘desperate’ for it to mean the 27-year-old was moving to United.
United supporters and fan accounts shared the screenshot as excitement builds ahead of the prospective move.

Telles, 27, has just a year left on his contract and believes the Portuguese side’s asking price of £18m is too high.
He is eager to make the switch to Old Trafford and remains confident he will be a Manchester United player when the deadline shuts on October 5.
Porto are attempting to hold firm in their valuation while United are also continuing to play hardball.
SunSport revealed how United will look at Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico for £23m if the Telles deal falls through.
Sergio Reguilon was a target but the Spaniard ended up joining Tottenham, who agreed to a buy-back clause with Real Madrid.

Jadon Sancho ‘desperate’ to link up with three Man Utd players as club table final £90m bid as saga comes toward end

JADON SANCHO is reportedly desperate to link up with England pals Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Mason Greenwood at Manchester United.
The Borussia Dortmund winger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer.

SunSport previously reported that the Red Devils are now set to make a final £90million move for Sancho.
It is believed the Premier League club will offer £75m up front, with another £15m to be paid in add ons later on.
According to the Daily Star, United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward hope Sancho’s desperation to join will convince Dortmund to sell up.
The report adds that the 20-year-old is keen to link up with Rashford, Greenwood and Maguire, who he knows well from England duty.

United star Rashford admitted earlier this year that he is desperate himself to play alongside the ex-Manchester City starlet at club level.
Yet the club’s confidence comes in spite of Dortmund’s head of football Sebastian Kehl saying this week that Sancho would STAY in Germany.
An initial deadline of August 10 set by the Bundesliga club passed without incident.
And Kehl told Ruhr Nachrichten: “He [Jadon Sancho] is our player, and he will stay.

“It was an important statement from the club because we have a certain responsibility. Without Jadon this team is weaker.”
Sancho played 78 minutes of Dortmund’s 3-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach in their Bundesliga opener.
He scored on his first appearance of the season in the German Cup in a 5-0 thrashing of Duisberg.
But United may have to flog as many as SIX players to fund the move for Sancho, as well as the rumoured interest in Porto left-back Alex Telles.

Chris Smalling set for Man Utd reunion with Lukaku, Sanchez and Young at Inter Milan as Conte eyes SIXTH Prem transfer

INTER MILAN have reportedly identified Chris Smalling as a possible target should Milan Skriniar depart.
With Tottenham in talks to lure the centre-back away from the San Siro, the Serie A side have targets in mind should they have to replace him.

Inter are already short at the back after Diego Godin left on a free transfer to Cagliari – further intensifying their need for a new defender.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter’s No1 priority is Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic.
But they state it is unlikely they will be able to prise him away from Florence, with Manchester United outcast Smalling an easier deal to make.
It has been suggested that the Red Devils are prepared to sell the 30-year-old should they receive a fee in the region of £18million.

However Inter are only prepared to fork out £16.4m, which they would pay across three instalments.
Should Smalling join the Nerazzurri, he would link-up with former United team-mates Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Romelu Lukaku at the club.
And his arrival would be the sixth player from the Premier League Antonio Conte would have signed since he took charge last year.
In addition to the four United players, Inter also signed Christian Eriksen from Tottenham in January, while they also brought in Victor Moses on loan last term.

But Inter know they face competition from Roma in the race to secure Smalling’s services.
The Rome outfit are desperate to bring the ex-Fulham ace back to the Stadio Olimpico after his loan spell last campaign.
It has been said that Roma are preparing one last move to sign Smalling, with boss Paulo Fonseca revealing he is in regular contact with the player.

Man Utd and Wolves boost as Barcelona reject Douglas Costa transfer after being offered Juventus star in swap deal

MANCHESTER UNITED and Wolves have been handed a boost in their bid to bring in Douglas Costa.
The two Premier League clubs have been linked with a swoop this transfer window for the 30-year-old Juventus winger.

It was reported yesterday in Italy that Juve wanted to offer him as part of a deal to bring Ousmane Dembele to Serie A.
But according to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are not interested in bringing Costa to the Nou Camp.
It is believed Juve tried to include the same player when they signed Arthur from the Spanish giants.

But seemingly the lesson has not been learned.
SunSport previously revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent was working on a £37million transfer to bring Costa to Wolves.
Jorge Mendes has done plenty of business with the Premier League side over recent seasons to draw the likes of Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Rui Patricio and record-signing Fabio Silva to the West Midlands.
Wolves may be keen to bring in a new winger after selling Diogo Jota to Liverpool in a transfer that will ultimately cost £45million.

Costa started just six Serie A games last season and was brought on as a late substitute in Pirlo’s first game – a 3-0 win over Sampdoria.

The Brazilian has also been linked with Manchester United this summer with the Red Devils currently failing in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.
Dembele meanwhile, another winger on the shortlist at Old Trafford, has struggled with injuries at Barcelona.
The £135.5million signing, who could only muster nine appearances last season, had been a loan target for Liverpool.
Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently claimed Dembele was one of Barca’s players that would not be sold.

Man Utd to launch last-gasp Jadon Sancho transfer raid with ‘final offer of £90m’ and are ‘confident’ of landing winger

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly set to make a final £90million move for Jadon Sancho.
The Borussia Dortmund winger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer.

    1

And now, according to The Mirror, United supremo Ed Woodward will come in with a final ‘take-it-or-leave-it offer’.
It is believed the Premier League club will offer £75m up front, with another £15m to be paid in add ons later on.
After months of wrangling, United will not budge from this latest, structured deal but are said to be ‘confident’ of finally landing their man.
This is despite Dortmund’s head of football Sebastian Kehl saying earlier in the week that the 20-year-old would STAY in Germany.

An initial deadline of August 10 set by the Bundesliga club passed without incident.
He told Ruhr Nachrichten: “He [Jadon Sancho] is our player, and he will stay.

But to fund the move for Sancho, as well as the rumoured interest in Porto left-back Alex Telles, could mean SIX players are on their way out of the club.
Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Diogo Dalot, Andreas Pereira, Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo are all up for the chop.
However, one man who the club are happy to keep around is Jesse Lingard.
The midfielder, 27, is reportedly NOT on the transfer list after playing in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Luton.
SunSport revealed this week that Lingard could even be offered a one-year contract extension to ensure he maintains value in the market.
