Man Utd steal 600-goal wonderkid Charlie McNeill from rivals Man City as Red Devils confirm shock £750k transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED have pinched wonderkid Charlie McNeill from rivals Man City – with the Red Devils confirming the shock £750,000 move.
The Old Trafford giants have confirmed the arrival of TWO new forwards to their Under-18s squad.

As well as ex-City star McNeill, United welcome former Atletico Madrid youngster Alejandro Garnacho in a double-swoop with one eye on the future.
Garnacho has already completed his self-isolation period and is ready to get down to work, according to Man Utd.
And “prolific” McNeill is also set to start training immediately following his transfer – which was revealed by SunSport last month.
In a statement, United revealed: “Manchester United can confirm the signing of two new additions at Under-18s level.

“Forwards Alejandro Garnacho and Charlie McNeill have joined the club’s academy from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City respectively.
“Garnacho, 16, mainly featured in Atletico Madrid’s Juvenil B side last season but also appeared for their Under-19s team.
“The Spaniard, who can operate up front as well as on both wings, has completed a period of self-isolation after arriving from the Spanish capital and can now begin training with his new team-mates.
“McNeill is a 17-year-old striker who has represented England up to Under-16s level and was a prolific goalscorer during his time in Manchester City’s younger age-groups.”

McNeill has been a true superstar at youth level, scoring more than 600 goals.
The youngster rejected a professional contract at the Etihad before moving across Manchester to join United.
Juventus and RB Leipzig had also been heavily linked with a move for McNeill.

Man Utd star Diogo Dalot in talks with AC Milan over transfer but Roma want him as part of Chris Smalling deal

MANCHESTER UNITED star Diogo Dalot is in talks with AC Milan – but Roma also want him as part of their deal for Chris Smalling.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to offload both defenders this transfer window.

Milan had been chasing Dalot on a loan move, with Solskjaer bluntly stating he must go permanently or no deal.
The Serie A side are now back in talks with United over Dalot, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
However, Roma have thrown a spanner in the works by expressing and interest in the Portuguese outcast.
Roma have been chasing a permanent deal for Smalling this summer after he excelled on loan last season.

With the Italian side struggling to meet United’s asking price, they appear to be now willing to pay the £20million fee – but only if they throw Dalot in, too.
Romano tweeted: “It’s AC Milan vs AS Roma for Diogo Dalot.
“Milan are still in talks with Manchester United for the right back.
“Roma asked for him as part of the Smalling deal. Talks on…”

Dalot is now behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
And with game time hard to come by, the young defender knows he needs to go elsewhere to progress.
Dalot signed as a 19-year-old from Porto for £19m in 2018 under Jose Mourinho.
But he has struggled with long-term injuries and the arrival of Wan-Bissaka last year, limiting his appearances to 34.

Man Utd dealt bitter Sancho transfer blow with Dortmund chief Zorc insisting ‘nothing will change’ before deadline day

MANCHESTER UNITED have been dealt another bitter blow in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho after Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc insisted “nothing would change” before deadline day.
The Old Trafford side have been chasing the England winger, 20, all summer.

However, United missed the German giants’ initial August 10 deadline after refusing to stump up their £108million asking fee.
United had hoped to coax Dortmund into selling with an initial offer of closer to £70m up front, with the remainder paid in instalments.
But the Bundesliga side refused to budge.
Man Utd officials were still confident they could conclude a deal before the October 5 transfer deadline.

United chiefs believed Dortmund would panic as the deadline drew ever closer and would be forced into accepting a cut-price bid.
Time and time again, club chief Michael Zorc reiterated that he has no intention of selling – with captain Marco Reus reinforcing that stance.
And once again, Zorc has claimed they will stand firm – holding the position of power with Sancho not out of contract until the summer of 2023.
Zorc revealed: “Of course we communicated with Manchester United in the past.

“But everything there is to tell on this matter from our end has already been said.
“And that won’t change over the next three days.”
However, SunSport recently revealed Sancho has told his team to “pull out all the stops” to get him to Old Trafford this summer.
United have been desperately chasing a right-winger all summer, with Daniel James set to leave, with Leeds interested.
The likes of Ousmane Dembele, Douglas Costa and Federico Chiesa have all been linked, with the club failing to get a deal over the line.
On Friday, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed the club were still trying to sign new players, having only brought in Donny van de Beek this summer.
But he cryptically suggested he was growing frustrated, saying: “The transfer window is still open for a little while.
“The club has been working and know my view and we’re here to strengthen in the long term as well.”

Ousmane Dembele ‘enthusiastic’ about Man Utd transfer with Pogba ‘ringing Barcelona star to persuade him to join’

PAUL POGBA has been ringing France teammate Ousmane Dembele to tell him to join Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.
SunSport previously revealed that the Red Devils have opened talks with Barcelona over a season-long loan for the winger.

    — Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien) October 2, 2020

United are struggling to get the deal for Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund over the line so are now taking positive steps to get a deal done for Dembele.
French outlet L’Equipe claim Dembele, 23, is ‘enthusiastic’ about joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
And Mundo Deportivo report that Pogba has personally called his French compatriot to persuade him to make the move to Old Trafford.
The report adds that the midfielder supports United’s push to sign Dembele and believes he could become a key part of the Premier League side.

It is also suggested that Pogba told the winger that his increased playing time at United would help him secure a place in France’s squad for the European Championship next summer.
Dembele was regarded as one of the most exciting wingers in the world when he joined Barcelona in a £95.8m move from Dortmund in 2017.
Yet he had last season wrecked by two hamstring injuries, the second of which required surgery.
He has not started a game since last November and was again left on the bench as Barca beat Celta Vigo on Thursday.

Speaking after the hame, Ronald Koeman said: “I think Pedri and Trincao can contribute more defensively than Dembele can, that’s why they played.”
However, SunSport revealed that Sancho believes that he WILL be a United player before the transfer window closes on Monday.
The England winger, 20, wants his top advisors to “pull out all the stops” to secure his move back to Manchester.

Solskjaer reveals Man Utd ‘have been working’ on transfers but refuses to stick boot into Woodward over failed targets

FORMER STRIKER Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was battling hard to be in defensive mode with the media as he fended off questions about a lack of signings.
While all their rivals have been spending big and improving their squads for the season ahead Manchester United have bought just Donny van de Beek.

Undoubtedly a great player, but that is only one and Solskjaer knows he needs more with the demands of the Champions League to come.
He said it in the wake of the club’s defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League as last season drew to a close but things have not materialised.
He has revealed that the club were aware of his plans and needs but stopped short of saying they had failed to meet them.
Solskjaer said: “The transfer window is still open for a little while and the club has been working and know my view and we’re here to strengthen in the long term as well.”

Yet back in mid-August he was urging the club to get new players in saying: “We need to strengthen the squad depth because it is going to be a long season.
“The league starts very quickly but then the market is open for so long. So we’ve got to be both good, smart and clever.”
It doesn’t look like they have been any of that, however.
Back in April, Solskjaer had been very bullish about what United could achieve in this window particularly due to the financial downturn caused by the coronavirus.

This is what he said back in April: “There might be just a situation there where you can exploit and I know that we at Manchester United, we are one of the biggest and financially well off.”
That statement was put to him ahead of this weekend’s game against Spurs.

Solskjaer said: “I think my wording in lockdown ‘exploit’ was a bad word by me, I didn’t mean in that respect, I meant clubs out there have to move because of the situation and it might be a situation for us, at the moment we’ve not had the, what’s the word, there’s not been those situations.
“We’ve lost loads of money as the other clubs have as well.”
Yet while United have spent just £40million neighbours City have spent £141million, Chelsea £200million, Liverpool £78million and even Aston Villa and Leeds have spent over £70million.
United meanwhile have had a fruitless quest to land Jadon Sancho which looks like finally hitting the buffers.
They continue to squabble over a difference of £6million for Porto full-back Alex Telles with the club wanting £18million and United offering just £12milion for a player who has just one year of his contract left to run.

It is as well for the United board that they have someone in charge as diplomatic as Solskjaer who did a good job in fending off the questions about the club’s transfer activity.
He said: “All my focus is on Sunday’s game, the club’s always working hard to have as strong as possible a squad and if something happens in or out you’ll get to know.”
The United boss was also keen to emphasise the strength of the squad he already has, one that finished third last season and reached three cup semi-finals.
He said: “I keep reading about players that should be playing instead of ones that are playing because that tells me I’ve got a strong squad. We need to get fit and keep injury free but there are more competition for places now.
“But we need results to affect the mood of players, staff, club, all the others are just short-term moods as well.”
If they don’t get one on Sunday, 24 hours ahead of the transfer deadline, that mood amongst fans will be very grim indeed.

Man Utd plot last-gasp transfer for Atalanta winger Amad Traore after Jadon Sancho pursuit stalled

MANCHESTER UNITED are plotting a last-gasp transfer bid for Atalanta winger Amad Traore, according to reports.
The Red Devils are desperate to land a new wide man before the summer transfer window closes on Monday.

    1

And according to the Manchester Evening News, the club have identified Traore as a new target, with talks thought to be underway.
However, the report adds that sources have said the deal is ‘not straightforward.
Traore, 18, was born in Ivory Coast but moved to Italy at a young age.
But if he does not have an Italian passport, that would mean he requires a work permit to get the transfer to Old Trafford which could prove difficult as he has no international caps.

United are keen to get the deal done this summer before Premier League rules over signing young foreign talent changes after Brexit.
On the pitch, Traore has been an unused sub in Atalanta’s first three Serie A games and his total playing time in Italy’s top flight totals just 30 minutes.
Nevertheless, Atalanta will not allow their academy graduate – who joined the club in 2015 – to go on the cheap.
He made his league debut in October 2019, coming off the bench against Udinese in the 79th minute and scored just four minutes later.

Manchester clubs have the worst net spend in the past decade by some distance

That goal ensured he became the first player born in 2002 to score in Serie A and also the youngest debutant to score on debut in the league, aged 17 years and 109 days old.
The MEN add that Traore is not viewed as an alternative to United’s No1 transfer target throughout this summer window, Jadon Sancho.
Despite a deal looking to be off the cards, SunSport revealed the Borussia Dortmund winger reckons a transfer could somehow get done in time – although that would rely on United stumping up the cash.
Juventus star Douglas Costa, Watford’s Ismaila Sarr and Federico Chieso of Fiorentina were all linked as back-up options.
But a deal to bring Ousmane Dembele to Old Trafford could happen with United in talks with Barcelona over a season-long loan for the Frenchman.
So far the club have only brought in midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £39million.

Man Utd set to receive extra £20m in transfer funds as they make breakthrough with Roma over Chris Smalling sale

MANCHESTER UNITED could receive a £20million boost to their transfer funds with Roma reportedly close to signing Chris Smalling.
The centre-half finished last season with the Italian side, and impressed during his loan there.

Now, according to The Athletic, Roma are edging closer to United’s valuation – which is believed to be offers in excess of £18m.
The Serie A giants were originally not budging at £12m, but ‘significant progress was made on the deal on Wednesday’ and ‘only the final details of the transfer now need to be resolved between the two sides’.
Smalling had fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to want to go with Victor Lindelof to partner Harry Maguire this season.
That extra money in the coffers could make up the shortfall between United’s Jadon Sancho bid and what Borussia Dortmund want for the winger.

SunSport reported how sources close to the deal beieve the deal could be completed for much lower than Dortmund’s original £108m asking price.
The German giants are said to want a minimum of £80m up front, plus add-ons.
Frantic negotiations behind-the-scenes are continuing to complete the deal in time before the transfer window closes on Monday.
One source said: “There’s a bit of a stand off going on… it’s a case of who blinks first.

“Will United up the offer or will Dortmund accept a lower bid?”
The Red Devils are considering making a final bid for the young star on Wednesday in the hope of forcing the deal across the line.
Sancho was left out of the Dortmund squad for the German Super Cup clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
And Solskjaer is growing increasingly confident he can land his No1 target before the deadline.

Sources say Dortmund are resigned to losing the player, despite publicly being confident he will stick around.
One said: “He wants this deal done.
“He’s told his agent and various advisors to do all they can to make it happen.
    “They are pushing for him.”
United have also been linked with Porto left-back Alex Telles, although will need to negotiate further with his club on the price.
Barcelona outcast Ousmane Dembele has also been linked with a loan move to Old Trafford.

Man Utd sell speedy striker prodigy Ayodeji Sotona, 17, to Patrick Vieira’s Nice in permanent transfer

NICE have confirmed the signing of speedy forward Ayodeji Sotona from Manchester United on a permanent deal.
The 17-year-old has swapped England for France as he believes he will be given more first team opportunities with the Ligue 1 club.

And the signs are good for the Ireland youth international as he has immediately been drafted into the senior squad.
A statement from Nice read: “OGC Nice is delighted to welcome a player with such a huge potential.
“[He] will join Patrick Vieira’s first-team squad as of this season.”
Sotona – who can play anywhere across the front line – chipped in with five goals and two assists for United’s U18s last term.

According to RTE, the Premier League giants were keen to keep hold of the player.
But they state that Sotona rejected a contract offer from the Red Devils in order to join Nice.
They state that United were willing to offer him a three-year deal, however the lure of first team football proved too strong.
Last September it was revealed that Sotona was the quickest player at United in tests carried out at Carrington.

The Daily Mail reported how the teenager clocked a time of 22.9mph, with Diogo Dalot following in second place with 22.6mph.
Sotona isn’t the only player United plan on offloading this week, with Andreas Pereira poised to sign for Lazio on loan.
And Roma remain desperate to land Chris Smalling, with the Serie A outfit willing to fork out £13.6million in order to secure his services.
