Man Utd to make Dayot Upamecano transfer move and can steal RB Leipzig defender for just £38m due to release clause

MANCHESTER UNITED will reportedly look to activate the release clause of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano next summer.
The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford during the latest transfer window, but he instead signed a new deal with the Bundesliga side.

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is a target for Manchester United next year

SunSport reported earlier this month how the Red Devils were still keen on luring the centre-back away from Germany.

And now the Times claim United will look to bring Upamecano to England at the end of the season.
It’s reported that he has a release clause of around £38million that will become active next summer.
While £38m appears relatively cheap for a top centre-back, United could have signed the France international for just £700,000 from Valenciennes in 2015, but refused to offer more than £500k.

    SEE HIM UPA CLOSE
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be desperate for a new defender to partner Harry Maguire after deciding Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly cannot be trusted.
The Norwegian revealed this week he is looking forward to seeing Upamecano in action with the player set to feature against United in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Speaking ahead of the game with RB Leipzig, he said: “There are always rumours and speculation about good players for Manchester United.
“I’ve always tried to respect that they are players for other teams and don’t want to comment on every player that we are linked to.

“But since he’s playing against us tomorrow I know he’s a very good player so we can see him close up tomorrow.”
United are believed to face competition from Liverpool in the race to secure Upamecano’s services.
With Virgil van Dijk out with a knee injury, rumours have circulated that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could turn to the former Red Bull Salzburg star.

Man Utd ‘make Erling Haaland No1 transfer target with Solskjaer still keen on Jadon Sancho in Dortmund double swoop’

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly put Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to the top of their shortlist.
The Premier League giants chased his team-mate Jadon Sancho all summer, but failed to sign the England international.

Now, according to The Athletic, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘still has designs on enhancing his centre-forward options’.
And despite bringing in goalscoring legend Edinson Cavani on a free, Haaland is now the main transfer target.
It is reported that although ‘United’s negotiations with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola may have ended fractiously’ there are still ‘bridges’ between Solskjaer and the player.

Solskjaer had told United that he wanted to be reunited with Haaland having worked with the player at Molde.

But the Red Devils didn’t agree with there being a release clause in the deal, and the Norwegian ended up moving to Dortmund from RB Leipzig.
The 20-year-old has scored seven goals in eight games in all competitions for the German giants this season.
United will be hoping any prospective move for Haaland ends better than their failed pursuit of Sancho.
Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke says United ‘misjudged’ their chase of the former Manchester City youth in the summer.

But the German giants’ CEO admitted the England winger, 20, is ‘not unsellable’.
Dortmund had set United officials a deadline of August 10 to meet their £108million valuation.
But Old Trafford bosses played it all-too casually and waiting until much later in the transfer window in order to attempt to secure a cut-price fee.
United had offered £70m plus add-ons for Sancho – but Dortmund remained firm all summer, with the winger committing his future to the club, despite reportedly being keen on a move back to England.

Donny van de Beek should have rejected Man Utd transfer and ‘waited for another club’, claims Marco van Basten

DONNY VAN DE BEEK should have REJECTED Manchester United and bided his time at Ajax, Marco van Basten has claimed.
Real Madrid were also strongly linked with the midfielder before he completed a £40million move to Old Trafford in September.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hardly played van de Beek, awarding him just four substitute outings in the Premier League.
The weekend’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea saw the Dutchman left on the bench, his boss preferring to bring on Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba.
That left Holland legend van Basten, 55, ruing his countryman’s switch to Manchester.

Van Basten told Ziggo Sport, via the Mail: “Donny should not have gone to Manchester United.

“When you are a good player you want to play every week.
“It is really bad for a player like Donny to play only six or seven games this year. That is shocking for your match rhythm.
“I know he is earning loads and loads more than he used to. But as a top player you have to be critical and look at the chances of playing when you sign for a new club.
“Donny should have waited for better prospects and signed for another club.”

Ajax fans gave van de Beek a stunning send-off as their academy product left Amsterdam in the summer.
But he has not been warmly welcomed in Manchester, with former United star Patrice Evra questioning whether the team needs him.
The Frenchman told Sky Sports on Sunday: “We’re talking about Van de Beek. Nothing against the kid, but why have we bought him?
“He’s watching the game from the stand every game. We don’t need him, that’s the truth.”
Van de Beek cut a frustrated figure in the Old Trafford stands as United remained lodged in lower mid-table after five games.
The Red Devils’ struggles have led to eyebrows being raised over his situation, Gary Neville pondering over the weekend why the midfielder is not being played.

But Solskjaer insists the 23-year-old will get a chance, having ‘impressed’ in training.
Neville said: “He doesn’t seem to be at the forefront of Solskjaer’s plans. It’s a bit of a mystery.
“The more he doesn’t start, and the more he doesn’t come on, the more you’re thinking, ‘£40m player, you’d get him in the team’.
“He must be thinking, ‘What am I doing here?’ at this moment in time.”

Man Utd star paul Paul Pogba urged to ‘move on’ by club legend Paul Ince amid Real Madrid transfer interest

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Paul Ince has told Paul Pogba to ‘move on’ just weeks after the midfielder admitted it is his ‘dream’ to play for Real Madrid.
Pogba was once again on the bench at the weekend as United played out a dull 0-0 draw at home to Chelsea.

Fred and Scott McTominay bagged the anchoring spots in the midfield, with Bruno Fernandes just in front.
Pogba did play some part in the game as he replaced veteran Juan Mata on 58 minutes.
But Ince believes the time has come for the 27-year-old Frenchman to leave Old Trafford.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Ince said: “For him to be sitting on the bench and watching, with no disrespect, McTominay and Fred playing in his position, I would be saying, ‘I must be doing something wrong if I can’t get in this team’.

“I know he has had an injury, and he might be trying to bring him on a little later on. But I think it is time to move on.
“He has come out in the last two weeks and said he wants to join Real Madrid.
“I think his performances, since he has been here, have been inconsistent.
“Paul Pogba is a world-class player, and when he moved to Old Trafford, I thought [it would be] great. But all he has done is been a problem.

“The fans have gone against him and now Bruno Fernandes has come in and shown what you need to do to be a Manchester United player.”
Days before the transfer deadline Pogba reiterated he ‘dreams of playing for Real Madrid one day’.
The Frenchman, however, did insist he is happy at Old Trafford for now.
He said: “Yes, all footballers would like to play for Real Madrid. Maybe it is a dream. It is a dream for me, why not one day?
“As I have said, I am at Manchester United and I like my club.”

The Argentinian centre-half is on the fringes at Old Trafford.
And he could be available in January.
Rojo, 30, was the subject of inquiries from several clubs during the last transfer window.
But United kept him and put him in their squad for the Champions League.

The fiery defender returned from a disappointing loan back home with Estudiantes in Argentina last term.
However, he could be sent out again to the Premier League to help him and United.
Rojo is a free agent at the  end of the season and needs a long-term move.

Half a season with the Blades may appeal.
Wilder lost influential defender Jack O’Connell to a  knee injury and still has a loan space.
And he is hopeful he can agree a deal with United.  More

Jadon Sancho ‘disenchanted’ at Borussia Dortmund this season after failed Man Utd transfer

JADON SANCHO is not ‘100 per cent’ in the right headspace to perform for Borussia Dortmund, according to reports of discontent in the club’s dressing room.
Manchester United unsuccessfully tried to sign the winger, 20, during the transfer window.

But it has been far from a perfect start to the season for Dortmund or Sancho.
Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat to Lazio in the Champions League has led to widespread criticism of the squad.
In particular, Sancho was panned by Bild for not being totally focused on the Borussia cause this season.

The German newspaper adds that there are rumblings inside the dressing room over the player’s lack of discipline.

Sancho landed himself in hot water with his national team bosses when breaking coronavirus restrictions days before meeting up with the squad.
Gareth Southgate dropped the forward for a friendly with Wales before he underwhelmed off the bench against Belgium and Denmark.
His club form has been little different, scoring only in the DFB-Pokal demolition of Duisburg having impressed so much last season.
New signing Thomas Meunier has also faced criticism for his impact in Dortmund, along with out-of-form winger Julian Brandt and coach Lucien Favre.

The Bundesliga side will need to turn things around quickly for Saturday’s huge local derby against Schalke, with Zenit St Petersburg coming to Signal Iduna Park shortly after.
Manchester United are said to still fancy their chances of snapping up Sancho.
Although Borussia insist their hardline negotiating stance will continue next summer, when the youngster will have just a year left on his contract.
CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “[United] misjudged the situation.

In this industry, you can never say that a player is completely unsellable.

“We had a clear line and will continue to do so next summer.

“I heard and read everywhere in the spring that Sancho was gone. But he’s here. We had an agreement with him.”

Sergio Romero found out about Man Utd exile on social media and ‘demands showdown talks with club over treatment’

SERGIO ROMERO will reportedly demand showdown talks with Manchester United bosses when he returns to Carrington next week.
The exiled goalkeeper has been dropped from the Red Devils’ Champions League squad – a decision he is said to have discovered via social media.

According to the Star, Romero, 33, returned to Argentina during the transfer window to organise a move to a new team.
However, United failed to agree a deal with Everton, leaving the goalkeeper furious with the club.

Romero has not played since the Europa League quarter-final win over Copenhagen in August, and was dropped for the final-four clash with Sevilla.
United expect the goalkeeper back at Carrington next week after he returned from South America to enter self-isolation.

It is said the player will demand talks with club bosses over his future.
And the Red Devils face either paying Romero wages worth £1million to sit in the reserves for the rest of the season, or terminate his contract.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is highly unlikely to need the shot-stopper later in the campaign, with David De Gea, Dean Henderson and Lee Grant ahead of him in the pecking order.
The decision not to allow Romero to leave has also infuriated his wife, Eliana Guercio, who took aim at the Old Trafford club once the transfer window ended.

She wrote on Instagram: “Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.
“He helped the team reach four finals/semi-finals and then he was on the bench, only to lose them all.
“It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!!”

Man Utd ‘among five clubs tracking Adama Traore transfer but Wolves will demand staggering £90m for winger’

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly face competition from four different clubs in the race to sign Wolves star Adama Traore.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most feared wingers having terrorised defences under Nuno Espirito Santo.

And while he is yet to score or provide an assist in his six outings this season, the Spanish international has no shortage of suitors.

According to Calciomercato, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is vying to bring him to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are looking at alternatives to Jadon Sancho having failed to prise him away from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
But they are not the only English club to be keen on landing the ex-Middlesbrough ace.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool also understood to be interested in the forward.
And it has been claimed that Serie A side Juventus are monitoring his progress, though it is unlikely he will be plying his trade in Turin.
United’s biggest competitors are believed to be Traore’s former employers Barcelona – who he left in 2015 to join Aston Villa.
Any suitor wishing to sign Traore must stump up a whopping £90million, with Wolves desperate to keep hold of their prized asset.

SunSport reported earlier this month how the winger was set to snub interest in him and pen a new contract at Molineux.
A £100,000-a-week double-your-money, four-year deal is said to be on the table for the player.
Traore is just two years into a five-year contract after joining from Boro in 2018 for £22million.
