How Man Utd could line up under Pochettino with Kane, Alderweireld and Dybala after club ‘make contact’ with Argentine

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly made contact with Mauricio Pochettino and the former Spurs manager could revolutionise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
According to reports from the MEN, United chiefs have contacted Poch’s representatives as the pressure builds on Norwegian boss Solskjaer.

SunSport understands there has been no contact with Pochettino yet despite him being the ODDS-ON favourite for the job.
But here’s how the Red Devils could line-up if the move goes through, with Solskjaer also favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked.
The big statement signing would be England skipper Harry Kane to lead the line for Poch’s Red Devils.
The pair were very close at Tottenham and Kane has shown exactly why he has been linked with the club in the past after a blistering start to the season.

The 27-year-old incredibly has FOURTEEN goal involvements in just seven league matches, with six goals and eight assists to his name.
The club will need another striker as Odion Ighalo’s extended loan move from Shanghai Shenhua ends in the New Year.
As well as talisman Kane, the Argentine coach, 48, may bring in further January additions if he is given the top job at Old Trafford.
Compatriot Paulo Dybala was previously linked with a move to Carrington and Pochettino could be tempted to bring the prolific wideman to the Prem as United are keen to strengthen their options on the wing.

Last month Dybala, 26, allegedly clashed with Juventus’ chief Fabio Paratici in the tunnel after again missing out on a place in the starting XI and may seek an exit route.
United’s defensive problems are no secret and Poch may turn to old club Spurs again as he looks for a dependable centre-back partner for skipper Harry Maguire.
Belgian ace Toby Alderweireld, 31, was once rumoured to be making the move North and – after losing his starting spot under Poch’s successor Jose Mourinho – should be available.
Pochettino will be inclined to try and get all his best players on the park as he looks to make his mark in a new role.
And club chiefs will be keen to finally see Donny van de Beek regularly in the XI after splashing out £40million to bring him in from Ajax.
If the former Southampton manager can get the Dutchman firing alongside Paul Pogba – with Bruno Fernandes playing as a No10 – then he will be on his way to a successful stint in charge.

Dortmund ‘optimistic’ Erling Haaland will sign new deal and deny £68m release clause exists amid Man Utd transfer links

BORUSSIA DORTMUND are ‘optimistic’ star striker Erling Haaland will pen a new deal at the club as they denied reports of a £68million release clause.
Reports in Germany suggested an exit clause exists that if activated would allow the prolific Norwegian forward to leave in 2021 – but Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke rebuked the claims.

Watzke, in an interview with Bild, said: “There is no such agreement.”
Both Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid, have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old.
The Red Devils and Los Blancos suffered a blow when Liverpool were tipped to seal a future move by Haaland’s former side RB Salzburg’s sporting director Cristoph Freund.

However, all three European clubs could miss out if Dortmund chief Watzke, 61, has his way.
He added: “It is about convincing the player of your club and your plans. We really want Erling to stay with us longer and we want to convince him and his agent of this.
“I am quite optimistic. I think Erling is comfortable at BVB.
“We can definitively say that he took the right step last winter by signing for our club.

“I would consider it a mistake if he moved on after such a short amount of time.”

Haaland rejected United to join Dortmund from RB Salzburg for £18m in December 2019.
He has made a fast start to the latest Bundesliga season, bagging five goals in as many games with two assists to boot.
And according to CIES Football Observatory’s list of the most valuable players born in the 2000s, Haaland is fourth with a value of £108m.

Paul Ince rips into Man Utd’s transfer policy as he slams Van de Beek signing and urges move for Raul Jimenez

PAUL INCE blasted Manchester United’s transfer policy as he slammed the signing of Donny van de Beek and urged the club to land Raul Jimenez.
The former United legend couldn’t see why the Red Devils forked out £40million to poach Van de Beek from Ajax over the summer as he is yet to start a Premier League game.

Ince, speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at its launch of the 5-A-Side Bet on Leicester v Wolves, said: “They’ve spent £40m on Donny van de Beek and they’re not playing him. I don’t know why they signed him.
“Maybe there’s a situation where Pogba could be going at the end of the season and Van de Beek could come in.
“But if you’ve spent £40m on a player, you put him in! Put him in the team.

“No disrespect to Fred but do me a favour… Fred’s OK. He’s OK. He doesn’t score goals, he doesn’t set up goals.
“Midfield players are supposed to score goals. Even when you watch him shoot – he can’t shoot!
“That’s why you spend money on players, but then you’ve got to put them in the team.
“Bruno Fernandes came in and was straight in the team. Van de Beek must be sat there thinking ‘what have I done?'”

Ince suggested a combination of poor recruitment and results will heap the pressure on boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He added: “Recruitment at United has been really, really poor. They’ve always had money to buy players.
“If you bring players in for those big amounts and you’re not playing them but the team is winning, then great.
“When you don’t play them and the team isn’t getting results, people will start questioning Ole about recruitment and results.
“Those two factors combined are going to put pressure on Ole. Recruitment and results.”
United have had a slow start to the season and sit 15th in the Premier League and may look to splash out in January.

And Ince talked up the potential of Wolves striker Raul Jimenez – as well as suggesting he may have been a better option than deadline day signing Edinson Cavani.
The 53-year-old said: “There are so many players out there who could have come into that Man United team. You look at Thomas Partey, Raul Jimenez.
“Last season United needed to bring in a striker and they go and get Odion Ighalo from China. What was that about?
“Go and spend £40m on Jimenez. He’s a proven striker, a scorer. You know, and then they go and get Edinson Cavani who will hardly play.”

Five players Man Utd should sign in January including Jadon Sancho and Koulibaly to fix season after poor start

MANCHESTER UNITED are just FOUR points clear of the relegation zone and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needs to halt the Red Devils’ slide down the table.
After losing 1-0 at Old Trafford to rivals Arsenal, United sit 15th in the Premier League.

Just a couple of months out from the January window, Solskjaer – if he survives – will have to look to the market to help fix their poor start to the campaign.
And he should start by finally landing their No1 summer target Jadon Sancho.
United were heavily linked with a £108million move for the Borussia Dortmund star, 20, throughout the entirety of the last window but the Bundesliga side held firm.
⚠️ Read our Man United live blog for the latest news from Old Trafford

Personal terms were never the issue, with reports suggesting Sancho told pals he will end up a United player and his slow start to the season – no goals in five league games – could suggest his mind is already elsewhere.
Dortmund boss Lucian Favre implied his poor form could be linked to the transfer speculation and it may be mutually beneficial for both parties for a deal to be done as soon as January.
United’s problems at the back are no secret with 13 goals shipped in six Prem games.
The club will stick with £85m skipper Harry Maguire despite his shaky form after a troublesome summer which saw his Greek antics splashed on the front pages.

But Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have not done enough to suggest they will be long-term options alongside the former Foxes ace.

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly, 29, would provide the perfect blend of talent and experience and has long been linked with a move from Napoli to the Premier League.
United could face competition from rivals Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp looking to fill the huge void left by Virgil van Dijk’s ACL blow but Ed Woodward should get the cheque book out to snare a proven centre-back.
Striker Odion Ighalo’s extended loan move from Shanghai Shenhua comes to an end in January and the club need to sign an out and out centre-forward.
The dream target would be Sancho’s BVB team-mate Erling Haaland but a more realistic option could be Wolves forward Raul Jimenez.
Jimenez has continued his form into the 2020-21 season with four goals in seven outings and could be the ideal hard man to lead the line.

Club legend Paul Scholes slammed United midfielders Fred and Scott McTominay’s showings on the weekend, with Gunners new boy Thomas Partey stealing the show.
So the Red Devils should also look to add some more defensive-minded players in the middle of the park, with ex-target West Ham’s Declan Rice a wise move.
But they will face a battle with Frank Lampard’s Chelsea who are eager to bring their former academy ace back to Stamford Bridge.
Another option is Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi – a player previously suggested by former star Rio Ferdinand on The Beautiful Game Podcast earlier this year.

Paul Scholes says Man Utd transfer target Dayot Upamecano is ‘type of defender club need’ despite Leipzig thrashing

PAUL SCHOLES has told Manchester United to sign Dayot Upamecano and claims he is the ‘type of defender’ his old club need.
The 22-year-old had the perfect chance to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last night when RB Leipzig travelled to Old Trafford in the Champions League.

But the French international did not exactly shine as his side suffered a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the Red Devils.
Nevertheless, speculation persists that United will soon press ahead with a move to bring Upamecano to the Premier League next summer.
And their legendary former midfielder Scholes believes they have to get a deal done.

And he even went as far to claim that the star is similar to fellow United icons Rio Ferdinand and Jaap Stam.

Scholes told BT Sport: “This is the type of defender I think United need, he’s very different to Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
“He absolutely loves one-vs-ones, he loves getting down that channel because he knows he’s gonna beat them.
“It’s very much the same as what Rio used to do, what Jaap Stam used to do.
“It frees the rest of the team to worry about attacking play, because you know you’ve got a centre-half who is going to defend and he’ll do it all day.”

Before Wednesday’s game, Solskjaer refused to be drawn on a swoop for Upamecano, saying: “There’s always rumours and speculation about other players and Manchester United.
“I don’t want to comment on every player we’re linked to.
“Since he’s playing against us tomorrow, I know he’s a very good player and we can see him close up tomorrow.”

Man Utd join Ryan Gravenberch transfer race along with Barcelona and Juventus with Ajax star, 18, dubbed new Paul Pogba

MANCHESTER UNITED have joined Barcelona and Juventus in the race to sign Ajax wonderkid Ryan Gravenberch, according to reports.
The in-demand midfielder, 18, only signed a new three-year contract at the Dutch giants in June.

Ajax won’t want to sell their latest academy star – being dubbed the ‘new Paul Pogba’ for his style of play.
But the Eredivisie giants are now bracing themselves for monster bids from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Earlier this week, Italian outlet Tuttosport claimed Juventus and Barcelona had registered their interest in Gravenberch.
And now, the Mirror state Man Utd have joined the race, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly keen to add another Ajax midfielder to his ranks.

The Red Devils chief already brought Donny van de Beek to Old Trafford in a £40million deal in the summer.
Struggling with the financial repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, Ajax could be forced to cash-in for the right price.
Gravenberch is currently valued at around £10m, according to Transfermarkt.
And United could be in pole position to land the hot prospect thanks to Mino Raiola.

Gravenberch is represented by the super-agent, who also has Pogba on his books.
Despite his age, Gravenberch has already played 19 times for Ajax – scoring four goals and adding three assists.
He has also made history at the club by surpassing Clarence Seedorf’s record as the youngest player to appear in the Eredivisie, aged 16 years and 130 days.
Not only have Gravenberch’s dazzling displays earned him rave reviews across Europe, but he was also recently shortlisted for the Golden Boy 2020 award.

Man Utd should stick to defenders they have as transfer target Upamecano bamboozled by Rashford and Co

MAYBE this defence of Manchester United’s is not that bad after all.
It was the lack of a centre-back purchase that so angered United fans in the last transfer window.

Anger that grew after conceding 11 goals in their first three league games.
Still this was a defensive unit last season whose 36 league goals against was were bettered only by Manchester City with 35 and Champions Liverpool with 33.
They also notched up the most clean sheets of any club in the top five European leagues in all competitions.

The back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victory Lindelof and Luke Shaw was looking like a strong unit in the clubs run to third place and three Cup semi-finals.

Still people always remember the games that went wrong, not least at the start of this season.
The 6-1 defeat to Spurs was unforgiveable but there were reasons for United’s shaky start.
They only had a 34 day break between the end of last season and beginning of this and a week’s training together .
Maguire back with his arrest in Mykonos still on his mind. But the ship has been steadied.

They only two goals they have conceded in their last four games against Newcastle and PSG were unfortunate own goals.
In Paris of Axel Tuanzebe since December 2019 reminded people what United already have in their squad.
Another academy product he was brilliant up against one of Europe’s most feared forward lines most notably in silencing the prolific Kylian Mbappe, scorer of 90 goals in the last three seasons. He is most definitely a star of the future.
So having handled the best team in France and kept a clean sheet against Chelsea, last night it was the current Bundesliga leaders and the defence was exceptional again not least Luke Shaw.
To think this was the night when Dayot Upamenco was going to showcase his abilities right in front of the man tipped to buy him.
Ole Solskjaer said he was looking forward to getting an up close view of Upamenco when RB Leipzig took on his United side.

He diplomatically batted off stories of him wanting to trigger the central defender’s release £38million release clause at the end of this season.
But there is no doubt the interest is there and why not with the French international attracting interest from around Europe.
This perhaps was not the night the 22-year-old had in mind.
He is a player with the lot, a presence, a reading of the game and a calmness on the ball when pressed. He can pick a pass too.
Last night he could not cope with United’s attacking threat. Note his part in United’s opening goal.
Looking over his shoulder he spotted Mason Greenwood’s darting run behind him but simply could not match it, nor reach the fine through ball from Paul Pogba for the 21st minute goal.
Later in the game he was part of a back four picked apart as United excelled once more in Group H. United up and running and defending.

Liverpool target Isak Bergmann Johannesson reveals Man Utd transfer dream as 17-year-old reveals he used to watch games

ICELANDIC whizkid Isak Bergmann Johannesson has dealt Liverpool’s chances of signing him a blow after revealing that he dreams of joining Manchester United.
The 17-year-old has been earning rave reviews in the Swedish top-flight with IFK Norrkoping – leading to interest from the Reds and Red Devils.

Manchester United and Liverpool are keen on signing Icelandic whizkid Isak Bergmann Johannesson

Liverpool scout Mads Jorgensen checked on the teenager in Norrkoping’s 2-2 draw with AIK on Monday.

However the youngster has spoke of his dream to play at Old Trafford, having watched games at the Theatre of Dreams as a child.
Johannesson – son of ex-Leicester and Aston Villa midfielder Joey Gudjonsson – lived near Manchester during his dad’s spells at Burnley and Huddersfield.
Speaking of interest in him, the winger told Expressen: “My dream club is Manchester United, together with IFK Norrkoping.

“I lived in Manchester when I was a kid, and I watched a lot of games there. It’s great that Liverpool have been watching me.
“But I’ll just focus on helping Norrkoping get into Europe next season.  We’re going to do it together.
“You can’t say that I am not going to Liverpool. They play good football – Manchester City and Liverpool have been great.
“But will I have the chance to move this winter?  I’ll concentrate on Norrkoping – we have five games left to get a European place.”

Norrkoping chief scout Stig Torbjornsen said earlier this week: “There has been a lot of interest in Bergmann Johannesson. It’s no secret that clubs are chasing him.
“Liverpool are one of the clubs, and there are ten others as well. The best clubs in Europe have been here for him.”
Johannesson’s stunning form has propelled Norrkoping to second in the Allsvenskan league.
He has made 27 appearances this year, scoring four goals, and has won 23 caps for Iceland’s youth sides.
