Man Utd eye David Carmo – dubbed ‘next Van Dijk’ – but face transfer competition with TEN clubs keen on £36m defender

MANCHESTER UNITED are not alone in their desire to sign David Carmo, it has been claimed.
The Portuguese defender, 21, is making a name for himself at Braga and recently signed a new contract with the club.

That served to double his release clause, from £18million to £36m.
Reports last week indicated that United were keen on Carmo.
However, the club’s backlog of defenders, including Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, could mean that a sale is necessary before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can add to his defence.
Even if the Red Devils can clear space, as many as TEN rival clubs have already made contact with Carmo’s representatives over a move, according to The Athletic.

Roma were said to have bid £15m for the youngster in the summer before completing a deal for Chris Smalling.
Coming in at 6ft 5in but described as strong in possession, Carmo has attracted comparisons to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.

The left-footed centre-back made his Primeira Liga debut in January and has racked up 27 appearances for Braga.
Until a red card against Vitoria Guimaraes last month, he had been ever-present in Carlos Carvalhal’s side and featured in the 4-0 Europa League humbling at the hands of Leicester.

Braga tied Carmo down to a long-term contract last week, which runs to 2025.
After signing the deal, the Portugal youth international expressed his optimism at challenging for titles with Braga second in the league.

He stated: “I am very happy and I feel at home. I feel that Braga believe in me and that people value my work.
“What I try to do is to help the club as much as possible and that is what I will try to do in the future, for the next five years.
“I don’t like to call myself an example to others, but rather proof that it is possible, that if you work, if you have all of the conditions on and off the field, that you are be able to seize the opportunity.
“I think that a player from Braga has more and more responsibility because Braga are a big club, we are increasingly one of the best teams in Portugal.”

Man Utd aim to complete Jadon Sancho transfer before England’s Euro 2020 campaign but January move ‘all-but impossible’

MANCHESTER UNITED are hoping to complete Jadon Sancho’s transfer before England start their Euro 2020 campaign, according to reports.
But a January deal looks to be all-but impossible.

According to 90min.com, the Red Devils are still desperate to land the Borussia Dortmund winger to bolster the right side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack.
They missed out on the 20-year-old this summer after failing to match the German’s £108million asking price and ended up buying Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri and Atalanta’s Amad Diallo instead.
But the report suggests United will make a fresh approach for Sancho in 2021.
And they will want it all wrapped up before the rearranged Euros, where he may well excel for England and attract more attention.

The tournament begins on June 11, with England’s first game two days later.
90min.com add that landing Sancho in January will be ‘almost impossible’.
Instead, United may try and secure a deal in the winter transfer window for the player to link up with the squad in the summer – just as Chelsea agreed with Dortmund in 2019 for Christian Pulisic as the American stayed on loan for the rest of the season.
Old Trafford chiefs know they will need to act quickly in the New Year – and could still attempt to bring the former Man City player back to Manchester immediately in January.

SunSport understands United told Sancho ‘we haven’t given up on you’ in October when a summer transfer failed to materialise and will go back in for him at the next available opportunity.

The ex-Manchester City youngster wanted the summer move but refused to force the deal by publicly announcing his desire to leave and jeopardise his relationship with the Bundesliga side.
But Sancho told close pals he is convinced he will still end up being a United player with a deal revived in 2021.

Adebayor reveals he persuaded Thomas Partey to make Arsenal transfer ahead of Man Utd and Chelsea

THOMAS PARTEY was advised by Emmanuel Adebayor to reject Manchester United and Chelsea to sign for Arsenal, the striker has claimed.
The Gunners paid £45.5million to sign the Ghana international in a deadline day switch from Atletico Madrid.

Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed the advice he regularly gives the midfielderCredit: PA:Empics Sport

But they were not alone in tracking Partey, according to Adebayor, who even believes Arsenal can WIN the Premier League having signed the midfielder.
The 36-year-old told reporters in Ghana: “About six months to a year ago, he was telling me about contacts he had had from England.
“He mentioned Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea.
“And I told him, ‘Listen, if I have a chance to play in England, a chance to play for Arsenal, the place you to have go to is Arsenal’.

“Because he is young, he is still learning and Arsenal are a family club, and I’m very happy and impressed with his first steps in the team.
“Unfortunately we all saw what happened against Aston Villa at home but he is a great player, a great personality.

“He is like a younger brother to me who is always looking for advice and we get along very well.”
Adebayor says he has helped Partey, 27, settle in London and wishes he had a similarly experienced pro to guide him when signing for Arsenal from Monaco in 2006.

He continued: “When I went to Arsenal, I didn’t have anybody to tell me what to do or where to go.
“I even told him the area where to stay, where he can find a beautiful and calm house. Because you need to be calm to play better on the pitch.”

If Leicester won the league four years ago, I think Arsenal with Aubameyang, Lacazette, now Thomas Partey – they have a big chance.
    Emmanuel Adebayor

A stop-start season has seen Mikel Arteta’s side lose as many league games as they have won, with Aston Villa claiming a 3-0 win at Emirates Stadium a week ago.
Yet, given the unpredictable nature of the Premier League, Adebayor believes the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette can lead the club to a shock title win.
The striker, who is currently a free agent, added: “If Leicester won the league four years ago, I think Arsenal with Aubameyang, Lacazette, now Thomas Partey – they have a big chance.
“It is going to be difficult, if you see the way Liverpool are playing now, it is going to be very difficult.

“But, as a footballer, we went to the World Cup in 2006 with Togo and were supposed to play France with [Zinedine] Zidane, Thierry Henry, [David] Trezeguet.
“But we wanted to win because, when you are on the battlefield, you will have chances on your side. Unfortunately it didn’t happen.
“But I think, going to Arsenal, in his mind, [Partey] will think he can win the league.”

Jack Grealish identified as ‘ideal addition’ by Manchester City who line up £70m transfer for Aston Villa captain

MANCHESTER CITY have reportedly joined rivals United in the race for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
The Daily Star claim Pep Guardiola has identified the 25-year-old playmaker as the ‘ideal addition’ to his squad.

The report adds that it remains to be seen whether City will make a bid for the £70million-rated star when the transfer window opens in January.
Grealish’s stunning form for Villa may mean he will opt to see out the season at his boyhood club to cement his place in England’s squad for the rescheduled Euro 2020 next summer.
That would mean that any move from City is likely to be at the end of the current campaign.
Grealish – who has chipped in with five goals and six assists in eight games – is tied down at Villa Park until 2025 after signing a new deal.

Yet SunSport previously reported that the Three Lions ace has been the target of renewed interest from the Premier League’s elite.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen to launch a fresh bid for Grealish’s services having failed with a move over the summer.
And Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has urged the Gunners to bring Grealish to the Emirates.
Speaking on The Invisible Wall Show, the Brazilian said: “Grealish, amazing. It seems like he could be a player that Arsenal missed.

“With his ability, he was one of the guys in the middle who can play beautiful football.
“He controls the ball, assists and can score goals.
“He is slightly different from Dennis Bergkamp, but he could be somebody for the future at Arsenal.”

Manchester United ‘considering summer transfer move for Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou’

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly considering a summer move for Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou.
CalcioMercato reports the Red Devils have ‘set their sights’ on Frenchman Zagadou, 21.

United could grab themselves a cut-price bargain as Zagadou’s contract expires in 2022 and Dortmund will not want to lose him for free.
United signed left-back Alex Telles on deadline day for £15.3milion to bolster their defensive ranks.
And it was only in 2019 that club chiefs splashed out £130m on Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

But United are still consistently linked with a centre-back to become skipper Maguire’s long-term partner at the heart of the defence.
Swede Victor Lindelof has failed to cement his berth, with Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe also unable to nail down a regular starting spot.
Zagadou is highly rated but has had a torrid time with injuries – failing to appear this season after rupturing knee ligaments in August.
It is the second time he has suffered such an injury this year – potentially worrying future clubs like United.

The Red Devils will also have to patch up relations with BVB after things appeared to be strained following the long-running Jadon Sancho saga in the last window.

Another name linked with a move is RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano but the 22-year-old didn’t fare well in his side’s 5-0 battering away to United in the Champions League last month.
The latest reports suggest Premier League champs Liverpool have overtaken United in the queue to poach centre-back Upamecano.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are in the midst of an injury crisis after Joe Gomez joined Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virigil van Dijk on the sidelines.

Man Utd eye transfer for Braga centre-back David Carmo to shore up defence but must sell Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo first

MANCHESTER UNITED are eyeing a transfer for Braga defender David Carmo, according to reports.
But the Red Devils may have to sell either Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo in order to make a deal happen.

According to ESPN, United have been impressed by the young defender and could consider a bid.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a left-footed centre-back after missing out on Nathan Ake in the summer.
And the 6ft 5ins Portugal Under-20 international – who played every minute of the season until his red card against Vitoria Guimaraes.

Carmo, 21, got a tough introduction to English football, though, when Braga were thumped 4-0 by Leicester.
But they will face plenty of competition for the 21-year-old both from within England and across Europe.
The report adds Italian sides Roma and Fiorentina are also monitoring him and made approaches in the summer.
Jones and Rojo were both omitted from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Champions League squads.

The Argentine did, however, make the cut it into the 25-man list for the league.

Neither player is expected to be part of any long-term plans at Old Trafford and on course to leave in January.
And shipping out one – or both – would allow space and cash for a new centre-back to be added.

Man Utd transfer target Nuno Mendes, 18, has release clause increased to £62m by Sporting Lisbon to fend off interest

SPORTING LISBON have reportedly increased the release clause fee for teen whiz-kind Nuno Mendes in a bid to fend off interest from Manchester United.
Sporting and the player’s representatives have agreed to raise his initial release fee from £40million to £62m, according to Record.

Mendes has caught the attention of big European names such as Man UnitedCredit: Getty Images – Getty

This would be the second-highest clause in the club’s history, only topped by former Sporting star Bruno Fernandes whose fee was £89.7m
Mendes, 18, only recently signed a new contract with the club but they felt the need to amend it due to interest from a host of European teams.
Despite only making his senior debut this year, Mendes has already become a first-team regular and has featured in seven domestic games this season.
The left-back also appeared in both their Europa League ties before they were knocked out of the competition.

His meteoric rise hasn’t gone unnoticed and he was linked with moves across Europe all summer.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and AC Milan are all said to have made a bid for, or an enquiry about Mendes.
Milan reportedly had a £13.5m bid rejected for the Portugese starlet as it was way below his valuation.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had him watched and was thought to have made contact about a move for the player.

While the Gunners were at one point said to be most interested in the defender as they searched for a back-up for Kieran Tierney.
But the Red Devils seem to have emerged as favourites in the race for Mendes, who was recommended to them by ex-United and Sporting star, Nani.
They also have the edge in any proceedings as Mendes shares the same agent as Fernandes, who joined them from Sporting in January.

Incredible theory about why Cristiano Ronaldo might want to join Man Utd… to renew fierce rivalry with Lionel Messi

CRISTIANO RONALDO reportedly fancies a move back to Manchester United – because of Lionel Messi!
A new theory on the Portuguese star’s next destination has excited fans hoping for a final showdown between the legendary players.

According to journalist Christian Martin, United bosses have already begun talks with Juventus over the forward.
Via El Grafico, Martin has revealed why Ronaldo may want to sign for an English team.
The theory suggests that the 35-year-old believes Messi will leave Barcelona when his contract expires in the summer.

The Argentine would then sign for Manchester City, a move he was rumoured to be interested in earlier this year.
Should Messi head to Etihad Stadium, Ronaldo is reportedly open to the idea of joining rivals United and sparking a fresh duel with his long-term nemesis.
As transfer theories go this is outlandish – but we can dream.
The ball is said to be in Ronaldo’s court and, should he fancy a return to Manchester, Juve could try and thrash out a deal.

It has been widely reported that the Old Lady could be tempted into a sale amid the coronavirus pandemic’s financial crisis.

While Ronaldo played for Real Madrid, he and Messi took part in a fierce battle over the LaLiga title for almost a decade.
The Portugal international won a pair of league titles in that period, while Barcelona scooped six.

How Man Utd could line-up next season with Ronaldo

Messi also comes out on top in Ballon d’Or crowns, with six to Ronaldo’s five, although the Juventus man has the edge in Champions League trophies – five to four.
A coronavirus diagnosis prevented Ronaldo from facing the Argentine earlier in the season but they are expected to face off when Juve take on Barcelona next month.
It promises to be the pair’s 34th meeting, with Messi ahead by 15 wins to nine and 21 goals to 18.
