Man Utd face Romain Faivre transfer battle with PSG as they line up swoop for 22-year-old Brest midfielder

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly set to go toe-to-toe with Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of Romain Faivre.
The Brest midfielder, 22, has been one of Ligue 1’s surprise standouts in 2020-21 after a move from Monaco.

Les Pirates paid around £450,000 for Faivre last summer and a sale would reap a pretty profit for the Brittany club.
According to Le10Sport, a whole host of clubs are taking an interest in the player.
United and PSG are named as two contenders, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently adding a new wide-man to his squad in Amad Diallo.
Mauricio Pochettino got a good look at Faivre on Saturday night as the youngster played 90 minutes in his first win as Les Parisiens boss.

In 19 appearances for Brest, he has notched four goals and three assists.
That includes a winner against old club Monaco in October and a late equaliser from the spot away to high-flying Lyon.

Brest have already moved to keep Faivre from interested parties, extending his contract to 2025 on Christmas Eve.

January may be a quiet month at Old Trafford with Ecuadorian wonderkid Moises Caicedo one of few players linked.
Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero have been told they can leave the club ahead of their contracts expiring in June.

Man Utd outcast Jesse Lingard wanted by Inter Milan on loan to join Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez

MANCHESTER UNITED outcast Jesse Lingard is reportedly wanted by Inter Milan on loan.
The Mirror reports Inter boss Antonio Conte is a big fan of England star Lingard and wants to bring him to Serie A.

The 28-year-old has played just three times in the cup this season and has only made FOUR out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 17 matchday squads in the Premier League.
Lingard started in United’s 1-0 win over Watford in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
But the midfielder could be heading for the exit door with Solskjaer reportedly ready to let him leave after he fell well down the Norwegian’s pecking order.
Lingard would join the former Red Devils contingent at the San Siro with Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez plying their trade under ex-Chelsea boss Conte.

And the report states Conte has been nudged in Lingard’s direction by positive reports from both Lukaku and Young.
However, a move is thought to rely on the Italian manager’s ability to offload Christian Eriksen.
The Dane has flopped at Inter since quitting Spurs a year ago and is being offered around on loan.
West Ham, Ajax and Wolves have all been linked with the playmaker who Inter paid £17million for in January 2020.

Lukaku left Old Trafford for Italy in 2019 as Inter paid £74m for the Belgian forward.
He has been a hit at the club, smashing 50 goals in 72 appearances along with nine assists.
Former United skipper Young, 35, made the same move 12 months ago for around £1.5m and has laid on two assists in 14 league appearances this season.
Sanchez moved to Milan on loan in August 2019 before making a permanent switch 12 montsh later.

Man Utd set to miss out on transfer target Moises Caicedo after Brighton launch swoop for Ecuador wonderkid

Caicedo has also attracted attention from Chelsea, West Ham and Everton.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, Brighton are the first to make an official move for the 19-year-old
Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle are said to be open to selling the player, with Albion now set to move to personal terms.
It was understood the club were looking for a £5.5million transfer fee plus add-ons, as well as a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

Caicedo’s manager Santiago Morales recently denied that United have made a move for the midfielder – but admitted he was likely to leave.
Morales told Radio La Red: “There is interest from various teams for Moises Caicedo and we believe that we will not have him this year.
“There is much speculation with Moises Caicedo, but we haven’t had any communication with Manchester United.
“We are surprised that they even talk about values, but we haven’t spoken with Manchester United, although we have spoken with other great teams in the world.”

Despite Brighton moving to pole position in the race to sign Caicedo, the young talent admitted he looks up to United’s Paul Pogba and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

He said: “Manchester United are my favourite club.
“I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them.
“I always try to do what they do, that’s why they are there.”

Timothy Fosu-Mensah free to leave Man Utd ‘this month’, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals after lack of playing time

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is free to leave Old Trafford this month, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed.
The Norwegian suggested a lack of playing time for the versatile 23-year-old could hasten his Red Devils departure.

Fosu-Mensah has made just 30 appearances in six years, leaving the Dutch ace frustrated.
Solskjaer told reporters: “I’m not sure if Timo is going to stay or [if] he’s going to take an option now.
“He’s not played enough, so of course he’s been allowed to speak to clubs, with a view to leaving now in January.
“It’s difficult when you’ve got good players, talented players, and you can’t give them game time.

“He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again.
“It might be [at the] end of January, or it might be in the summer that he finds somewhere else.
“So he’s working hard, Tim, he’s ready for a move for any club that he feels ready for.”
Fosu-Mensah arrived at Carrington in 2014 as a 16-year-old fresh from Ajax’s youth system.

He made his Premier League debut in the match against Arsenal famous for Marcus Rashford’s dramatic goalscoring first appearance in 2016.
But unlike his United team-mate, Fosu-Mensah has found it tough to nail down a spot in the side and spent time on loan at London sides Crystal Palace and Fulham to aid his development.
His contract expires in the summer and after just three appearances and 108 minutes of action all season, he is likely to jump ship.
Fosu-Mensah could be joined on the way out by Argentine duo Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo who are both off contract at the end of the season.

Solskjaer confirms Man Utd will NOT extend Rojo and Romero’s contracts with pair available for FREE transfer in summer

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has confirmed the imminent exits of Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero from Manchester United.
The Argentine duo have been allowed to return home over Christmas having failed to make an appearance all season.

The Red Devils have asked both players to find moves away in January, ahead of their contracts expiring in the summer.
Speaking on Friday, Solskjaer confirmed that the club will not be renewing either players’ deals.
He told reporters: “Both of them have contracts until the summer and they’re not going to be extended.
“We’re looking for them to find clubs.

“Marcos has been given time to go home, so he’s still in Argentina.
“Sergio has been back home as well to see his family but they’re pros, working hard and ready if they call in for us.

“Marcos will have to travel and do the quarantine before.”
Goalkeeper Romero, 33, was told to find a new club in the autumn having failed to make United’s 25-man Premier League and Champions League squads.

Everton were linked in a deadline day deal that failed to come off.
The collapse infuriated Romero’s wife, Eliana, who fumed on Instagram that the club had shown a lack of ‘respect’ after his five years of service.

Boca Juniors and Brighton are both reportedly chasing the World Cup finalist this month.
Meanwhile, centre-back Rojo is also touted for a return to Argentina with Boca.
The 30-year-old, who joined for £16million in 2014, spent much of last year on loan at Estudiantes but has been recovering from a calf injury in recent weeks.

Man Utd need Dayot Upamecano in January while Jack Grealish NOT Jadon Sancho could be perfect when Paul Pogba goes

DAYOT UPAMECANO could be the man to push Manchester United towards glory this season.
The club failed to sign a new centre-back in the summer and, with a title tilt on the horizon, January could be the time to invest.

Jack Grealish may also be a target if Paul Pogba leaves Old TraffordCredit: Getty Images – Getty

It will be a busy month, at least in terms of departures for the Red Devils.
Here, Tom McDermott delivers his Fan’s View on the January window for SunSport.
What positions do Man Utd need to buy in and why?
You could argue that United could do with strengthening almost every area of their side.

If we’re being realistic, the centre of defence is still an overwhelming concern.
Harry Maguire is getting better, but he and United are desperate for a world class partner in order to help them try to reach the next level.
Ruben Dias looked exceptional for City in midweek and that’s the level of player United should be targeting in January.
With the coronavirus pandemic and the reluctance of other clubs to sell, the ‘big’ business may have to wait until the summer though.

Who should they be looking at as transfer targets?
Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Juventus’s Matthijs de Ligt and Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar are regularly linked to United to solve the troubled central defensive problem, but a more realistic target is probably RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.
The Frenchman, 22, had a torrid time when he played at Old Trafford earlier this season, but he’s tipped to leave Germany sooner rather than later, and given his age and defensive capabilities it would be foolish of United if they didn’t make a move.
Further up the pitch, Jadon Sancho is still being linked with a move back to Manchester, but I wonder if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his scouting department might prefer Jack Grealish instead.
The Villa man nearly moved to Old Trafford in the summer and would fit in perfectly if, as expected, Paul Pogba eventually moves on.

Jadon Sancho continues to be linked with a move to ManchesterCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Who should be heading out the exit door this January and why?
    Where do we start?
Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero could all do with moving on for a multitude of different reasons, but such are the huge wages they find themselves on, it may prove problematic.
Solskjaer, in general, has done well explaining the type of player and personality required to succeed at Old Trafford, so it’s up to Ed Woodward to move the unwanted ones out of the door and generate funds for future windows.
No one knows how bad the coronavirus will impact summer spending, so any money United can make from player sales would be most welcome.

Do you expect more backing from board and are they doing their bit?
I don’t think Solskjaer got what he wanted in the summer window. For example, if he really wanted Donny van de Beek, why hasn’t he featured more?
We know United wanted Sancho and a central defender, and if you look at the league table, the addition of both might have put them in an even better position.
The board must take credit for securing Bruno Fernandes 12 months ago, but their inability to move players out of the door and secure Solskjaer’s signings, has frustrated fans and probably the manager as well.
Get a signing ‘right’ like Fernandes, and you can see what a positive impact it can have on the squad.

Man Utd recall Matej Kovar from Swindon loan transfer with 20-year-old set to be sent back out for rest of season

MANCHESTER UNITED have recalled goalkeeper Matej Kovar from loan at Swindon Town.
The 20-year-old headed to the County Ground last summer to spend the campaign with the Robins.

Now the Czech stopper has had that stint cut short – although he is expected to go elsewhere for the remainder of the season.
Kovar started impressively at Swindon but kept just one clean sheet in 20 appearances for the League One strugglers.
He will link back up with United’s Under-23 squad back at Carrington.
But the club are looking into the possibility of sending him out to another EFL team.

Swindon want to replace him before the weekend and have been linked with Bournemouth’s Mark Travers.
Kovar has trained regularly with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team in the past.
He is still yet to make his senior debut for the Red Devils despite shining at youth level and helping the U23s to promotion last year.
Meanwhile, former United prodigy Will Keane has recently been discussing the problems Red Devils youngsters may face out on loan.

He told MEN Sport: “It’s tough.
“I think the style of play, with these lads coming up through the ranks and then getting in the reserve team, they’re used to that and it’s a very technical game.
“And it’s not men’s football, so when you have that first exposure, it probably is a bit of a wake-up call to a lot of players, really. It’s a different game.”

Man Utd wonderkid Amad Diallo, 18, to link-up with Solskjaer’s first-team squad after completing transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly have no interest in letting Amad Diallo stay at Atalanta on loan for the rest of the season.
Goal claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to integrate the teenager into his first-team squad ahead of his imminent arrival in England.

The report adds that United view the Ivorian differently to fellow teen Facundo Pellistri, who signed on the same day back in October.
The latter has been getting to grips with English football by featuring for the Under-23s side but Diallo is more likely to be involved in the first-team.

United have already had to wait three months for the 18-year-old after first agreeing a £37million deal including add-ons on deadline day in October.

Yet Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini claimed over the weekend that his side would like to keep Diallo on loan until the end of the season.
He said: “Let’s hope. I launched the idea. If Manchester were forced to loan him out, maybe it would be better if he stayed with us again.”
However, Diallo appeared on route to complete his transfer to United on Monday after sharing a picture travelling on a plane.
It comes after manager Solskjaer revealed he expected the January arrival to link up with his new team-mates ‘very soon’.

He said: “We have had all the paperwork, I can’t see any obstacles. He’s coming. I hope very soon he will be with us.

“I’m very excited about bringing him in, I think he’s shown a few times his qualities.
“Of course he has to learn to play in England, that’s a different level of football. We’ll give him time to develop and to express himself.
“Apart from that, I’m not really thinking too much on what we’re going to do with players [in the January transfer window].” More
