Man Utd ‘told Erling Haaland will cost £154m transfer fee by Borussia Dortmund as Chelsea and City circle for striker’

BORUSSIA DORTMUND will demand £154MILLION for their star striker Erling Haaland this summer.A whole host of Europe’s biggest clubs are interested in the free-scoring sensation, with Manchester United heading that queue.
Erling Haaland is one of the hottest properties in world footballCredit: Getty
Since joining Dortmund from RB Leipzig in January 2020, the 20-year-old has scored 49 goals in as many games.
In all competitions this season Haaland has netted 33 times in 31 games. He has scored ten goals in just six Champions League matches.
According to ESPN Dortmund are asking for £154m for the Norway international.
In the summer of 2022 a clause kicks in that sees Haaland available for just £65m – but Dortmund hope the huge interest around him will lead to clubs stumping up more than double that.
As well as United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all believed to be interested in signing the powerful frontman.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have stolen a march and is reportedly ‘in contact’ with his countryman’.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Solskjaer ‘keeps calling’ Haaland in a bid to convince him of a move to Old Trafford.
Haaland previously played under Solskjaer at Molde and the two are said to have maintained contact.

The nine-cap Norway international has reportedly spoken to his agent, Mino Raiola, to make it crystal clear he wants to quit if Champions League football is off the table at the Westfalenstadion.
United’s frayed relationship with Raiola over the Paul Pogba transfer saga last year is a potential barrier blocking any deal for Haaland.
But the Red Devils are reportedly willing to grit their teeth and get it done for the sake of the team.
Solskjaer was desperate to get him from RB Salzburg and looked in pole position, given he had a close relationship with the striker at Molde.
He met the Leeds-born Norwegian personally to convince him to become a Red Devil as others swooped, but then lost out to Dortmund in a deal worth around £17.2m.

Jesse Lingard has just missed a big chance to get on the scoresheet for England.
The Manchester United attacker was rewarded with a start for England after his strong form on loan at West Ham.

The midfielder has caught United’s eye but Pearce insists his future remains with West Ham.
Pearce told talkSPORT: “No, he’s happy here and he’s not going anywhere, that’s for sure.
“He’s been brilliant here, I’ve got to say. Dave (Moyes) brought him into the club in January of last season and since then he’s just been brilliant.
“He’s got a wonderful attitude to work, on his days off he comes in to work, he’s just really an absolute pleasure to work with.

Galli, who arranged the attacker’s trial with Atalanta, told Goal: “Amad is unique but he must make himself stronger.
“At the same time, he must make sure he does not lose his speed, which is a quality that distinguishes him from others.
“In short, I think he has all the qualities to be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or in the next five years.”

The 23-year-old has not been training with the England squad due to a foot injury.
England boss Gareth Southgate said: “Marcus has been very keen to be with us. He obviously wasn’t with us so much in the autumn.”
But with two more games over the next week including a crucial clash with Poland it is unlikely England will take any risks over Rashford’s fitness.
    TOUCH OF CLASS

The England talent, 19, took notice of the teenager’s situation by former Man Utd youth player Nenad Smiljanic.

It read: “How are you? I believe you have not been well, but you are now recovering in hospital.
“I hope you are soon better and back home.
“It is great that you are a Man Utd fan and I hope we can win something for you this season.

The 24-year-old is open to leaving La Liga having come through the ranks at Estadio Ceramica.

    ARE YOU FER REAL?
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand bizarrely told Newcastle fans to stump up £300million to buy out owner Mike Ashley if they hate him so much.
Just one win from 18 league games leaves the Magpies facing a third relegation from the Premier League under the despised Sports Direct tycoon.
Rio Ferdinand extraordinarily called on Newcastle fans to pool together £300m to oust Mike Ashley
Ashley is desperate to sell and is currently suing the Premier League over the failed £300m Saudi Arabian-led bid.
And Ferdinand angered the Toon Army by claiming they can have few complaints unless they are willing to put their money where their mouth is.
The former England defender told his YouTube channel: “He doesn’t care what people think. It’s his club and he’s doing what he wants to do.
“Whether you like it or not, he’s the one that’s put the money up and he’s doing what he thinks is right for the club.
“Whether the Geordies don’t like it, a lot of them hate him and don’t like him but, round your money up and take over the club then.”
    DEAL WITH IT
Manchester United are set to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new £10million-a-year contract, according to reports.
The Norwegian, first appointed by the Red Devils on a temporary basis in December 2018, is currently contracted until 2022.

According to The Mirror, Solskjaer will be handed a new three-year deal, even if they fail to win the Europa League this season.
The 48-year-old is also set for a significant £2.5m rise on his current £7.5m-a-year salary.
    MARC MY WORDS
Holland legend Marco van Basten wants to scrap the offside rule from football.
The iconic former midfielder wants to do away with the rule as it will make the sport ‘more interesting’.
Van Basten, 56, was Fifa’s technical director between 2016 and 2018 and rule improvements were part of his remit.
The Dutchman told Sky Sports: “I am still very curious about the offside rule because I am convinced that it is not a good rule.
“At least I would like to trial it to show that football is also possible without the offside rule. I am convinced that football would be better without it.
“Football is a fantastic game but I still think that we have to do much more to make it better, more spectacular, more interesting, more exciting. We have to work on that.”
    NICK OF TIME
Nicky Butt reportedly left Manchester United after ‘friction’ with the club’s newly-appointed director of football John Murtough.
The official line from the former England midfielder, 46, who won six Premier League titles as a United player, was that he wanted ‘a new challenge’.

SunSport has exclusively revealed that Derby boss Wayne Rooney is interested in adding Butt to his management team at the Championship outfit.
But according to The Athletic, Butt and Murtough had ‘differing footballing views’.
Murtough was essentially Butt’s line manager in the new coaching set up. The Athletic describes the pair as ‘like chalk and cheese’.
It is also alleged that Butt felt ‘overlooked’ for the technical director role that his former team-mate Darren Fletcher bagged.
Butt helped bring current first-teamers like Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe, Dean Henderson and Mason Greenwood through United’s famous academy.
    RASH DECISION
Marcus Rashford joined up with the England camp to catch-up with his team-mates and rehab in a social environment but will not play in the World Cup qualifier.
The 23-year-old Manchester United forward is struggling with an ankle injury but The Athletic reports he was desperate to be in and around Gareth Southgate’s side.

Rashford is said to have wanted to be in team meetings ahead of plans for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament this summer.
Rashford is still fully recovering from an ankle blow suffered in the Manchester derby and despite returning for 90 minutes against West Ham, he was hooked at half-time against AC Milan.
The report states he did not suffer ligament damage but bruising and bleeding on the bone initially ruled him out of the first leg in the Europa League.
    BREAKING: LIONS IN WAIT
England’s World Cup qualifier with Albania is at risk at being axed over police security fears, according to reports.
The Three Lions were due to face their European opponents in the Albanian capital Tirana on Sunday.
But the Albanian Football Association (AFA) have released a statement claiming the safety of both teams cannot be confirmed because the State Police have not taken over its security.
The statement, posted on Albanian Daily News, read: “Today in the Albanian Football Federation a letter arrived from the Local Police Directorate of Tirana which states the structures of the Local Police Directorate Tirana cannot guarantee the taking of measures before, during and after the Albania-England match.
“Faced with the situation where the state authorities did not react after the request of the AFA for the release of spaces on the perimeter of the National Stadium, we request urgent response to these structures.
“The cancellation of the Albania-England match would have catastrophic consequences for the image of our country, the National Team and in general for Albanian Football.”

John Kennedy is steering the Hoops until the end of the season after Neil Lennon walked away from his second stint in charge.

And outspoken pundit Keane – who finished his career at Celtic Park – could be gearing up for a return to management after formerly taking the reins at Ipswich Town and Sunderland.
Bookmaker Coral’s John Hill said: “Roy Keane had a brief spell at Celtic as a player at the back end of his career and if the betting is anything to go by, he could be set for a return to Glasgow to take over as manager in the summer.
“John Kennedy has a contract until the end of the season, but it is Keane who is the odds-on favourite to take over ahead of the start of the 2021/22 SPL campaign.”
    SOL MATES
Manchester United are reportedly ready to offer boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a bumper new deal.
The Norwegian gaffer penned a three-year deal when he was given the Old Trafford job full-time in March 2019.
ESPN reports the club have seen enough progress to offer the former super sub a new deal.
The 48-year-old is approaching his final year in the summer and United brass are wary of causing too much speculation if negotiations drag on.
The club are planning for the long-term under Solskjaer and have installed John Murtough as football director and Darren Fletcher as technical director with the pair’s relationship with the manager key in securing their roles.
    SWEDE AND SOUR
Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof revealed the personal sacrifices he has to make to represent Sweden.
The Red Devils centre-back is missing his son’s second birthday to play for his country during the international break.

He wrote on Instagram: “Two years of being a father to this little man. I will always walk side by side with you through life. Happy birthday son.”
Sweden face Georgia in tonight’s World Cup qualifier before playing Kosovo on Sunday and Estonia in a friendly next Wednesday.

    SERG IN DEMAND
Manchester United should ‘break the bank’ for Erling Haaland or Harry Kane rather than sign Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, according to Ally McCoist.
The Scottish legend and former striker believes a move for Aguero would cause ‘uproar’.
On talkSPORT, he said: “It would cause an uproar, I don’t see it.
“They’ve already gone for the short-term fix of Cavani. I don’t think you’d go for another 32-year-old for a season.
“I think the time has come for Manchester United to go and get Harry Kane or break the bank for Haaland.”

    JUST JU & ME
Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to hold crunch talks over his Juventus future at the end of the season.
The Old Lady are fighting to qualify for the Champions League having been knocked out of this year’s competition and the Serie A title race.
A 1-0 defeat to Benevento before the international break left the team ten points off leaders Inter Milan despite Ronaldo hitting 23 goals in 24 league matches this campaign.
But reports of a potential exit, including to old club Real Madrid, refuse to go away.
It had been suggested that financial problems at Allianz Stadium could lead to the Italians accepting a bid as low as £21.5million for the star.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, neither Juve nor Ronaldo are planning on a summer transfer at this time.
In May, the two parties plan to sit down and discuss the path ahead with the 36-year-old out of contract in 2022.
    DON DEAL
Manchester United are still interested in Jadon Sancho but only in a cut-price deal.
The Telegraph reports the Red Devils will only be keen for a move for far less than the £108million Borussia Dortmund asked for last summer.
United are in for a right-winger and the Three Lions star, 20, has been on their radar for the best part of four years.
The report states it appears unlikely the Bundesliga side will sanction the sale of Sancho and Erling Haaland at the end of the season which could hinder a move with the Norwegian high in demand.

    KA-PAU
Manchester United could be ready to launch a bid for Pau Torres with the defender reportedly interested in a move to England.
The Spaniard is said to be available for around £52million in the summer due to a buyout clause in his Villarreal contract.

According to MEN, the 24-year-old is open to leaving LaLiga having come through the ranks at Estadio Ceramica.
However, United may be made to wait on Torres if he is called up to Spain’s Euro 2020 squad.
He reportedly wants to focus on a strong end to the season with Villarreal and a good tournament in the summer before deciding on his future.
The Yellow Submarine’s form could play a big role with the club sat seventh in its pursuit of European football.
It has previously been said that missing out on a Europa League spot could see Torres become available for less than his release clause.

    SCHOLE OF HARD KNOCKS
What a banger from Paul Scholes 21 years ago today.

    GOOD MORNING MAN UTD FANS
Nicky Butt could join Wayne Rooney at Derby after quitting as Manchester United’s head of first team development.
The former Red Devils midfielder, 46, spent nine years in the role and as a coach at Old Trafford, bringing through the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Dean Henderson.
Man Utd legend Paul Ince revealed he would prefer to sign Erling Haaland than Harry Kane.
The ex-England star said: “If I was in charge of United and you offered me Harry Kane or Erling Haaland on a plate right now, I think I’d be taking Haaland.
“He’s younger, not that Kane’s old, and he’s got a bit more pace, not that Kane is slow.”
It comes amid rumours Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly in contact with Erling Haaland over a summer transfer to Manchester United.
United are among a number of top European sides chasing the Norwegian’s signature at the end of the campaign.
And Red Devils boss Solskjaer ‘keeps calling’ his countryman in a bid to convince him to move to Old Trafford, according to Spanish outlet AS.
    RAMBUTT
Nicky Butt could join Wayne Rooney at Derby after quitting as Manchester United’s head of first team development.
The former Red Devils midfielder, 46, spent nine years in the role and as a coach at Old Trafford, bringing through the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Dean Henderson.
Yet it is understood Butt did not see eye to eye with new director of football John Murtough.
And while the Class of ’92 star said all the right things on his departure, his exit was still a surprise.
Butt, who played almost 400 games under Sir Alex Ferguson and was a member of the historic 1999 Treble-winning side, said: “Having come through the academy myself it has been an absolute privilege to come back and work with a new generation of talent making that same journey.
“I’m proud of the role everyone on the staff plays in giving our young footballers the best possible chance of fulfilling their potential.
“The results are clear to see in the increased number of home-grown players reaching the first team.
“I already know from my playing days how difficult it is to leave Manchester United but it feels like the right moment for a new professional challenge.
“I look forward to exploring opportunities that build on the great experiences I’ve had here over the past nine years.”

    SPURRED ON
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has emerged as a rumoured transfer target for Manchester United.
At 34, the World Cup winner is said to want to leave North London for one final big challenge of his career.
A return to Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain or Nice has been reported and now L’Equipe detail a potential move to Manchester.
Lloris is in his ninth season at Tottenham but is yet to win a trophy, although he will get a fresh chance in the upcoming Carabao Cup final.
SunSport recently revealed the club’s plans to replace club captain Lloris at the end of the season.
England trio Sam Johnstone, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson are understood to all be targets for Jose Mourinho.
United star Henderson is finally getting his chance in the team but may seek a move if he is once again dropped to the bench with the club preparing to either sell the former Blades No1 or David De Gea.

    PAUL NO PUNCHES
Man Utd legend Paul Ince revealed he would prefer to sign Erling Haaland than Harry Kane.
The ex-England star said: “If I was in charge of United and you offered me Harry Kane or Erling Haaland on a plate right now, I think I’d be taking Haaland.
“He’s younger, not that Kane’s old, and he’s got a bit more pace, not that Kane is slow.
“If you were going to buy Harry Kane right now he’d probably cost you around £80/90m and he’d likely be on a five-year contract which takes him into his thirties.
“When you buy a player you’ve always got to look at how you might make a profit from them later on.
“Haaland is only 20, so you could bring him in for around £100m and you’d still be able to make a profit from him in five years’ time.
“With Kane you’d have the guarantee that he’s already a proven goalscorer in the division.
“He knows the Premier League well so you know he’d get you 25 goals a season.
“But I think Haaland would do the same at any club in any division, and he’s only going to get better.”

    NO GOLDEN TUCH
Thomas Tuchel’s sour relationship with Borussia Dortmund could dent Chelsea’s chances of signing Erling Haaland, in a boost to Man Utd.
Bild claim the German left Dortmund on bad terms and club chiefs are reluctant to sell to a side coached by their former manager.
The report adds that it’s ‘very unlikely’ the Bundesliga outfit will allow Haaland to seal a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Although Tuchel won a German Cup at Dortmund, his time there is best-remembered for the bust-ups he had.
There were disagreements with senior players, including Mats Hummels, Neven Subotic, Jakub Blaszczykowski and Roman Weidenfeller.
While Tuchel also clashed with former chief scout Sven Mislantat, who would later work for Arsenal.
He was then sacked by Dortmund with chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke saying he was ‘worn out’ dealing with the manager.

    OL HAVE YOUR BACK
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer has commented on Nick Butt’s decision to QUIT as head of first-team development.
Solskajer said: “Nicky will always be a legend of Manchester United as a six-time Premier League winner and, of course, an integral part of our Treble-winning team.
“That pedigree has made him a great source of guidance and inspiration to our Academy players since he returned to the club.
“We are all going to miss him around the Aon Training Complex but Nicky knows he will always be welcome back.”
    DON DO IT
Rio Ferdinand is convinced the Donny van de Beek has the talent to improve United’s side – if given the chance.
Ferdinand said: “‘I think he would add value to this team, definitely. He’s someone who would create goals, he played a part in the goal (vs Leicester). When he gets in the box, he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.
“But to get in the box he’s got to play in the position where Bruno Fernandes is playing and he’s not going to do that. Can he do it from No 8 position or No 6 when he’s holding? I think he can. He’s intelligent enough.
“Ajax players are brought up to be intelligent footballers, they are able to play multiple positions, he can do that. It’s just obviously United want a stiffer central midfield area behind Bruno.
“I get that, given that’s got to be protecting the centre backs and that’s not going to be one of Van de Beek’s strengths. But then it begs the question: why buy him then?”
    RIO DONNY GET IT
Rio Ferdinand admits he feels sorry for Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek.
The United legend has questioned why the club signed Van de Beek if they were not prepared to play him regularly.
Ferdinand told his podcast, Vibe with Five: “I feel for him. I don’t care who you are – if you’re playing the odd two minutes here and there, three minutes here and there, you cannot perform.
“I don’t care what level of player you are.
“I don’t think he’s been helped in terms of team selection and opportunities so I don’t think it’s fair to say he’s underperforming because he’s not been put in a position to perform yet on a consistent basis.
“I really do feel for him but it would be interesting to hear what he was sold and told on the way in because the lack of opportunities, I don’t think he’d have come here if he’d known that.”

It has previously been said that missing out on a Europa League spot could see Torres become available for less than his release clause.
Furthermore, new reports suggest a player-plus-cash offer could also tempt Villarreal into a deal.
The left-footed centre-back had played every minute of the league campaign until a muscle injury struck at the start of the month, ruling him out of Spain’s World Cup qualifiers.
Manchester City are tipped to compete for his signature if he desires a move to the Premier League, with Real Madrid and Barcelona also keen.

According to AS, Solskjaer phones his Norwegian compatriot regularly to try and sell the idea of Old Trafford.
Borussia Dortmund forward Haaland, 20, is preparing for international duty alongside new skipper and Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard.
The striker has bagged 21 goals in 21 Bundesliga games this season and is wanted by a host of Europe’s top clubs.

Sport Mediaset suggests both European giants are ready to meet his demands.

Marcus Rashford’s book is out on May 27.
He wrote on Instagram: “‘YOU are a Champion’. A guide that I hope will inspire ALL children to dream big and help those who need it most.”
“As part of the Marcus Rashford Book Club model, books I am championing will reach the most vulnerable children via the breakfast club network.

    HAARSH WARNING
Manchester United target Erling Haaland could be a ‘disaster’ signing for Chelsea, according to Blues icon Frank Lebouef.
He told Sky Sports: “Haaland is a beast.
“Of course it would be a plus for Chelsea. But now you have to think financially and economically, and you also have to also think and make sure your dressing room is going to be following the coach.
“If you put Haaland (in the team) you lose [Olivier] Giroud.
“But you might lose [Kai] Havertz, you might lose [Timo] Werner as well. What about [Christian] Pulisic? Where are you going to play [Hakim] Ziyech?
“That is an equation that you have to make sure is going to work and that the results are going to be good for the club.
“You can add talents, that is not a problem. But you have to make sure the chemistry works.
“Otherwise it is going to be a disaster. Having only talent doesn’t make sure you are going to win something.”
    HEND OF THE ROAD?
Manchester United have slapped a £40m asking price on keeper Dean Henderson, SunSport can reveal.
The former Sheffield United loanee is battling new dad David De Gea for the Old Trafford No1 jersey.
But the 24-year-old has attracted interest from Spurs – with Hugo Lloris potentially moving the other way.
Spurs have England trio Henderson, Sam Johnstone and Nick Pope on their shortlist to replace French captain Lloris.
    ON EUR OWN
The Prem’s Big Six are braced for frustration and disappointment over their attempts to force radical change on the top flight.
Leading clubs now recognise there is no chance they can push through a reduction of the league from 20 teams to 18.
While proposed revamps of Uefa competitions promise more money from 2024, the Big Six fear they will hit a brick wall in their efforts to get the green light to make more cash from selling rights to their own games either overseas or on club channels.
And it sets up a further squabble between the Big Six and the rest of the Prem starting at tomorrow’s “shareholder” meeting of the 20 clubs.
Prem chief executive Richard Masters agreed to engage US-based Boston Consulting to carry out a “Strategic Review” of the structure of the League.
That was a direct response to the Project Big Picture proposals backed by Liverpool and Manchester United as well as EFL chairman Rick Parry.
Masters vowed that he would be open to all ideas, insisting in November that “the status quo is not an option”.
Five months on, the Review will finally be a formal agenda item for the first time at Thursday’s meeting, with clubs to debate the “next steps”.
    RASH DECISION
Marcus Rashford is a major doubt for England’s game against San Marino on Thursday.
The Manchester United forward sat out the FA Cup defeat at Leicester with a foot problem.
And the 23-year-old is yet to take part in England’s team training sessions, instead doing solo work in the gym.
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka will miss the game as the Gunners continue to assess his hamstring problem.
    PAUL THE OTHER ONE
Manchester City could see Sergio Aguero head straight across town if they don’t renew his contract, Paul Ince has warned.
Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea have all been linked with the Argentine, 32, and Manchester United are the latest club tipped to make an offer.
Former Red Devils midfielder Ince, 53, has told the club to consider Aguero when his contract expires in the summer.
Such a shock swoop could emulate Sir Alex Ferguson’s capture of Eric Cantona from Leeds during Ince’s time at Old Trafford.
He told Ladbrokes: “Sergio Aguero might be leaving Man City, why shouldn’t United make a move for him?
“You could see it now. If he wanted to stay in the Premier League and he’s living in Manchester, then I don’t think it would be a bad thing at all if they went and got Aguero.
“It can happen, who knows? You’ve got to ask the question if you’re United because you never know.”
    SHAW THING
Luke Shaw credited Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s man-management for helping him get back in the England squad.
Luke Shaw praised boss Solskjaer’s man-managementCredit: Reuters
Shaw told Sky Sports: “His man-management is second to none.
“The way he conducts himself in terms of how he speaks to the players, it gets the best out of them. You can see that.
“He deals with situations perfectly in terms of what is needed, especially at a big club like Manchester United.
“He takes the pressure off the lads and takes it all himself. Sometimes it is not fair because we are the ones on the pitch and we need to take our fair share too.
“For me, especially, from what I had before Ole came in, it is a total difference. It has pushed me to a new level.”
    PREM WINNER SHAME
Former Manchester United star Ronnie Wallwork fractured a man’s eye socket in a row over trainers, a court heard.
The 43-year-old punched Alan Mulholland when he stepped on his trainers in a pub in Greater Manchester in 2019.

Wallwork admitted GBH and was handed an 18-month suspended sentence at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
The 2001 Prem winner also must complete 200 hours of unpaid work, a rehab programme and pay £500 in compensation to his victim.
    HEAD START
Heading the ball in training is set to be significantly reduced as the FA and Premier League back new safety guidelines.
Prem chiefs will green light a formal study into the forces sustained by heading balls in different situations.
And FA chief medic Dr Charlotte Cowie explained that Wembley bosses believe the risk to long-term health and dementia means curtailing heading in the professional game is required.
Dr Cowie told a DCMS Select Committee hearing: “There is no argument about decreasing the exposure to the amount of heading in the game.
“But the main exposure is in training, so limiting that in terms of the number and types of headers is definitely the direction we need to go in.”
Dr Cowie was criticised by “staggered” and “appalled” committee chairman, Tory MP Julian Knight, after insisting she was unable to say what the FA’s annual budget was for dementia research.
That came after a series of deaths linked to heading, including the recent passing of 1966 World Cup legends Martin Peters and Nobby Stiles.
    BRU-TAL
Bruno Fernandes had to be rested against Leicester to avoid him running himself into the ground.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed the Portuguese ace would play every single game if it was up to him.

The Norwegian said: “Bruno has played very, very much football.
“He broke all his records on Thursday night [against AC Milan at the San Siro] physically, statistically, and the boy is not inhuman.
“I know Bruno wants to play but sometimes you make decisions for the benefit of both the team and him.”
Fernandes has covered the seventh most metres in the Premier League this season.
He did come off the bench in the FA Cup quarter-final but couldn’t prevent the Red Devils slipping to a 3-1 defeat at the King Power.
    FAN FRENZY
Manchester United have frozen 2021-22 season ticket prices as the club prepares to welcome fans back to Old Trafford.

    SPURRED ON
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has emerged as a rumoured transfer target for Manchester United.
    ALLO ALLO
Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo has picked up an award for gaining a place on the 2021 NXGN list of the world’s best young stars.
The 18-year-old has made it onto a list compiled by Goal journalists in 44 countries.

To qualify you have to be born on or after January 1, 2002.
Barcelona’s Ansu Fati topped the bill with Diallo making the top 20 of a 50-strong list.
The teenage ace was called up to the Ivory Coast senior side for the first time this week.
    GOING HAM
Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku kicked pineapple on pizza and carbonara pasta from his diet in pursuit of Inter Milan glory.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, key to Inter’s rise has been losing 16lbs of weight under the guidance of the nutritionist Matteo Pincella, who began his career in rugby.
In 2012, he joined up with Antonio Conte at Juventus and now combines his club role with working for the Italian national team.
Under Pincella, Inter stars are studied and handed unique diet plans that rarely feature pasta dishes.
Instead, chicken, sweet potatoes, shirataki noodles, and fish all feature heavily and a single cheat meal a week is allowed.
For 27-year-old striker Lukaku, that has meant ditching some of the bad habits he took with him from Manchester United.
Pineapple on pizza and carbonara pasta are just two of the guilty pleasures given the boot, helping him drop from 15st 11lbs to around 14st 9lbs.

Man United are reportedly eyeing a shock move for Spurs captain Hugo Lloris.
L’Equipe claims the French goalkeeper is ready to leave Tottenham this summer.
And United want him to replace out-of-favour David de Gea.
Lloris believes the Red Devils can offer him one final chance of landing silverware.
Spurs would then look to replace Lloris with Lille’s Mike Maignan.
Meanwhile, Juventus are reportedly ready to SELL Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
AS claims the United and Real Madrid icon could be set for a new club after a disappointing season under Andrea Pirlo.
Juventus are ready to accept bids of just £21.5million for the superstar.
But interested clubs will have to dig deep for Ronaldo’s annual wages, which AS adds to be a staggering £75m.
Finally, United star Amad Diallo’s meteoric rise continued after he was called up by the Ivory Coast.
The 18-year-old starlet could make his full international debut for the African nation this month.
United confirmed his call-up to Patrice Beaumelle’s Elephants side alongside team-mate Eric Bailly.
Both Red Devils are part of the 30-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
    OLE’S ALRIGHT
David Beckham claims former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing a great job at Man Utd.
The Inter Miami chief told ESPN: “I’ve seen some of the criticism.
“But I suppose when you are a manager of Man United when they’ve had success over the years that they’ve had, there was always going to be a point where people get criticised.
“Whether it’s the players, whether it’s the owners, whether it’s the manager.
“Ole’s been in the game long enough to be able to take any kind of criticism.
“He’s very quiet, he gets on with his job, and I think he’s done an incredible job down at United.
“The results are starting to show that.
“Hopefully, it continues because the fans love Ole, we all love Ole and we all want him to do well.
“So when the criticism comes, he’s one person that can take it.”

Man City reportedly enquired about the midfielder last summer and are said to have renewed their interest.
The midfielder has just over one year left on his contract and could be offloaded for a reduced fee this summer.

    KANE WELL ABLE
Premier League clubs have been given a boost with Real Madrid reportedly preferring to sign Harry Kane over Erling Haaland this summer.
SER Deportivos claims the Spurs star has emerged as Los Blancos’ No1 target.
That means the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Man City could be left to battle it out for Haaland.

You’ve got to ask the question if you’re United because you never know.
“It happened with us back in 1992 when Howard Wilkinson was asking Sir Alex Ferguson about [signing] Denis Irwin.

“Fergie said there’d be no chance of that happening and suggested Leeds sold Cantona to them – and within a couple of days that deal was done.
“It was just Fergie throwing a name out there and taking a chance, trying his luck. Maybe that’s what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should do with Aguero this summer.”
Ince recommended Harry Kane and Erling Haaland as two more strikers who could lift the club to a Premier League title.
Interest in Borussia Dortmund star Haaland, 20, is high and the Bundesliga club may be forced into a sale if they fail to make the Champions League.
And the younger of the pair would be thea more viable option in Ince’s eyes.
The ex-England star noted: “If I was in charge of United and you offered me Harry Kane or Erling Haaland on a plate right now, I think I’d be taking Haaland.
Erling Haaland is reportedly a long-term target for Manchester UnitedCredit: Getty
Harry Kane has also been talked up as an option by Paul InceCredit: AFP
“He’s younger, not that Kane’s old, and he’s got a bit more pace, not that Kane is slow.
“If you were going to buy Harry Kane right now he’d probably cost you around £80/90m and he’d likely be on a five-year contract which takes him into his thirties.
“When you buy a player you’ve always got to look at how you might make a profit from them later on.
“Haaland is only 20, so you could bring him in for around £100m and you’d still be able to make a profit from him in five years’ time.
I think Haaland would do the same at any club in any division, he’s only going to get better.Paul Ince

“With Kane you’d have the guarantee that he’s already a proven goalscorer in the division.
“He knows the Premier League well so you know he’d get you 25 goals a season.
“But I think Haaland would do the same at any club in any division, and he’s only going to get better.”

England trio Sam Johnstone, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson are understood to all be targets for Jose Mourinho.

Man Utd’s biggest transfers ever, both in and out, including Ronaldo

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated his happiness at having the pair compete for a place on the teamsheet but the Spaniard’s high wages make him a very expensive substitute.
Lloris was vocal about Tottenham’s Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb last week, which he branded a ‘disgrace’.
Meanwhile, Henderson impressed as he kept a sixth clean sheet in seven against AC Milan – before conceding three to Leicester in the following match.
Also linked to Spurs if Lloris leaves is France national team understudy Mike Maignan, who plays for Lille.

    ZAK RACE
Man Utd have reportedly been joined by neighbours Man City in the chase for Denis Zakaria.
The Premier League giants are locked in a battle to sign the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.
Man City reportedly enquired about the midfielder last summer and are said to have renewed their interest.
The midfielder has just over one year left on his contract and could be offloaded for a reduced fee this summer.

    LLOR AND ORDER
Man United are eyeing a shock move for Spurs captain Hugo Lloris.
L’Equipe claims the French goalkeeper is ready to leave Tottenham this summer.
And United want him to replace out-of-favour David de Gea.
Lloris believes the Red Devils can offer him one final chance of landing silverware.
Meanwhile, Spurs would look to replace Lloris with Lille’s Mike Maignan.

    FER REAL
Rio Ferdinand admits he feels sorry for Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek.
He told Vibe With Five: “I feel for him. I don’t care who you are – if you’re playing the odd two minutes here and there, three minutes here and there, you cannot perform. I don’t care what level of player you are.

    CRIS CROSSED OFF
Juventus are reportedly ready to SELL Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
AS claims the Manchester United and Real Madrid icon could be set for a new club after a disappointing season under Andrea Pirlo.
Juventus are ready to accept bids of just £21.5million for the superstar.
But interested clubs will have to dig deep for Ronaldo’s annual wages, which AS adds to be a staggering £75m.

And it would also be good news for PSG in their efforts to keep Kylian Mbappe.
Prem clubs are set to benefit from Real Madrid’s interest in Harry Kane
    FROM SUNSPORT’S MARTIN LIPTON
The Prem’s Big Six are braced for frustration and disappointment over their attempts to force radical change on the top flight.
Leading clubs now recognise there is no chance they can push through a reduction of the League from 20 teams to 18.
While proposed revamps of Uefa competitions promise more money from 2024, the Big Six fear they will hit a brick wall in their efforts to get the green light to make more cash from selling rights to their own games either overseas or on club channels.
And it sets up a further squabble between the Big Six and the rest of the Prem starting at this week’s ‘shareholder’ meeting of the 20 clubs.

    FREE TO FLY
Liverpool and Manchester United will play their European quarter-final first legs in Spain after the country’s Government eased flight bans.
The Reds visit Real Madrid’s Estadio Alfredo di Stefano ground in the Champions League on April 6 while United travel to Granada in the Europa League two nights later.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says his government will lift restrictions on flights from the United Kingdom.
Spain’s Council of Ministers banned arrivals by air and sea from the UK between December 22 last year until next Tuesday, March 30.
Man Utd and Liverpool can now play their European quarter-finals as normal
    PATS THE WAY
Man United and Arsenal will reportedly battle it out for RB Salzburg star Patson Daka this summer.
Salzburger Nachrichten claims the Zambia striker, who has 20 goals in 18 games, is being lined up for a stunning Premier League switch.
Daka has successfully filled the boots of Erling Haaland at the Austrian club.
And there is also said to be interest from Man City and Liverpool in the man hailed as the new Samuel Eto’o.
Daka has been tearing up the Austrian top flight for the best part of two seasons
    BECKS APPEAL
Kieran Gibbs has signed a pre-contract agreement with David Beckham’s Inter Miami and will join up with new boss Phil Neville at the end of this season.
The 31-year-old former Arsenal left-back has made more than a century of appearances for Albion but has played second fiddle to Conor Townsend this season and is ready for a fresh challenge in the MLS.
Ex-Man United duo Beckham and Neville are hoping to make a real mark on the competition this term, with stars including Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain already on the books.
And Gibbs will become the latest Englishman to move to Miami following ex-Stoke skipper Ryan Shawcross.

    BEEKS AND TROUGHS
Man Utd could use Donny van de Beek as a makeweight for either Erling Haaland or Jadon Sancho.
90Min claims the Dutch midfielder is of interest to German giants Borussia Dortmund.
And after failing to make an impact in his first season at Old Trafford, Van de Beek could be sacrificed to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer land one of Haaland or Sancho.
Donny van de Beek could be used in a swap deal this summer
    FAN’S VIEW
Man United should SACK Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if they don’t win this season’s Europa League.
Getting into the top four is NOT a sign of success.
And it is staggering to hear Ole say that winning trophies does not represent progress on the pitch.

    UNITED NATION
Manchester United have provided some of England’s finest ever players.
The Three Lions two top goalscorers – Sir Bobby Charlton and Wayne Rooney – were both best for their country during their time at Old Trafford.
Other names trip off the tongue – Beckham, Robson, Ferdinand.
So, we at SunSport decided to pick our ultimate Manchester United England XI of players who starred for the Red Devils while winning caps for their country.
To be included, they must have won at least one cap while playing for United…

    MAD JOURNEY
Manchester United star Amad Diallo’s meteoric rise continued after he was called up by the Ivory Coast.

    GREEN WITH ENVY
Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has been forced to pull out of England U21s squad due to injury.
The striker has since been replaced by Norwich City playmaker Todd Cantwell.

    AL OVER
Manchester United are reportedly out of the running to sign David Alaba with the defender keen to join either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
The 28-year-old will be departing Bayern Munich in the summer when his contract expires having refused to agree a new deal in Bavaria.
But according to Sky in Germany, Alaba – who can play as a centre-back, left-back or in midfield – has his heart set on a move to Spain.
    UNITED WE STAND
Manchester United’s chances of securing a top-four finish have improved with an easier run-in than rivals Chelsea, Tottenham and Leicester.

    (THREE) LION IN WAIT
Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard has shared his delight at returning to the England fold following his recent form at West Ham.
He told West Ham TV: “It’s brilliant, and it’s about getting minutes and getting regular football and trying to do the best I can.
“The team has helped me tremendously and I can’t thank the players and staff for welcoming me enough and it’s time to crack on now.”
    MORE FROM SHAW
Luke Shaw also claimed that his current form has been better than when he won the United player of the year prize in 2018/19.
He told Sky Sports: “I was nowhere near my best then. If I am honest, it was quite a poor season from everyone.
“Maybe I was just one of the ones who stood out a little bit more but I was nothing special.
“Definitely now is the best period I have had. I have managed to sustain a run of games and keep playing. I am enjoying it and I think that is the most important thing that I wanted to get back, that enjoyment of football. Getting back to doing what I enjoy doing.”

    SHAW THING
Luke Shaw admitted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has helped him mature at Manchester United.
He told Sky Sports: “His man-management is second to none. The way he conducts himself in terms of how he speaks to the players, it gets the best out of them. You can see that.
“He deals with situations perfectly in terms of what is needed, especially at a big club like Manchester United.
“He takes the pressure off the lads and takes it all himself. Sometimes it is not fair because we are the ones on the pitch and we need to take our fair share too. For me, especially, from what I had before Ole came in, it is a total difference. It has pushed me to a new level.”
    FRESH LIONS
England boss Gareth Southgate revealed his 26-man squad last week for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with a few United stars expected to face San Marino.
Here’s how they could lined up…

    MARC UP
Marcus Rashford is the most-valuable player on the planet – worth a staggering 15 per cent of Manchester United’s entire squad value.
According to the latest data from CIES Football Observatory, the England forward, 23, is valued between £130million and £170m.

    BECKS BACKING
David Beckham is confident superstar players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will be interested in signing for his MLS side Inter Miami.
Speaking to ESPN: “When we announced Miami, there was always going to be talk about what players we were going to bring in, whether it was Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar.
“There was always going to be those discussions. I actually don’t think it’s a tough one for players to decide, to be honest, because it’s a great place.
“Obviously, it’s a great city, I feel like we’ve got a great fan base, but I also understand there’s great talent in Miami and South Florida, and I think we have a real opportunity.
“Miami is a city that has that pull on players who have been playing in Europe that are big stars.”
    STRING TO THEIR BOW
Salford have turned to Derby’s Under-23 coach Gary Bowyer as their new boss until the end of the season.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville sacked Richie Wellens yesterday with the club’s promotion campaign on the rocks.
Bowyer said in a statement posted on Salford’s website: “I’m delighted to be here, I’ve got to first and foremost thank Wayne Rooney, Darrell Russell at Derby County for being so helpful to allow me to come here.
“Obviously today is a case of meeting the players and setting the expectations of what we expect of them from now until the end of the season.
“We want them to be playing aggressive football both with and without the ball, and have a right good go at these remaining 11 games.
“We have an opportunity like everybody else in this league to try and force our way into the reckoning to try and get into the play-offs and see if we can do that.”

    ONE IN, WIJN OUT
Liverpool are reportedly in the running to sign Manchester United target Aaron Ramsey this summer.
A new midfielder could be on the agenda at Anfield with Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract expiring.
And a potential replacement has been named in the Italian press.
According to CalcioMercato, Juventus star Ramsey is considering interest from both Liverpool and West Ham.
