Eric Bailly wanted by Inter Milan in summer transfer swoop with unsettled defender’s Man Utd contract expiring next year

MANCHESTER UNITED’S Eric Bailly is reportedly wanted by Inter Milan – if the centre-back snubs an Old Trafford contract extension. The disgruntled Ivorian’s current deal expires at the end of next season but SunSport revealed he was planning to reject new terms.

Bailly was fuming when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer overlooked him for the second leg of the Europa League tie against AC Milan and told pals he would not put pen to paper on a 12-month extension he was due to agree last month.
And The Daily Record reports Inter are looking to take advantage of Bailly’s situation at United.
The Serie A leaders are poised to end Juventus’ decade of dominance in the Italian league as they sit five points clear of city rivals AC Milan at the top.
The report states United value Bailly at around £17million but Inter will try to negotiate the price down.
Bailly was reportedly concerned that Red Devils bosses wanted him to sign on to inflate any potential transfer fee.
The 26-year-old ace has grown frustrated at Solskjaer favouring Swede Victor Lindelof alongside £85m captain Harry Maguire.
Bailly played in the first leg of the AC Milan tie, with Lindelof managing a back complaint, but is reported to have argued with the Norwegian after being demoted for the crucial return fixture.
Despite the fact he is believed to have apologised, Bailly was left out of the matchday squad and has not played for the club since.

Significant progress had been made in negotiations – which were put on hold over the international break – but Bailly’s future now seems to lie away from Carrington.
He has struggled with form and fitness since arriving from Villarreal for £30m in 2016 – featuring for just 637 minutes of Prem action in this campaign.
Bailly has only managed 100 games in five seasons for United with Solskjaer electing to start the Ivory Coast international in just 11 Prem games in the last two years.
If a deal was to go ahead, Antonio Conte would add yet another United man to his San Siro contingent.
Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku and former skipper Ashley Young have rocked up at the club across the last two summers, while Alexis Sanchez joined after an initial loan move.
United are understood to be seeking another centre-back to partner Maguire in the long-term with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic all mentioned.

Scholes tells Man Utd to go all out for Haaland transfer over Kane for four reasons including ‘timing of career’

ERLING HAALAND is Manchester United’s best bet if they are to sign a striker in the summer, according to Paul Scholes. The midfield legend weighed up the Norwegian against Tottenham star Harry Kane and insisted he is better in a number of areas.
Paul Scholes has given his take on Manchester United’s striker situationCredit: EPA
He told the Webby & O’Neill show: “[United] need a No9.
“I think the forwards they have are very good, but are any of them really a No9, or are they wide players? You just can’t make sense out of it really.
“When Cavani’s played, he’s looked alright but he’s had a few injuries. He’s at that age. It was always going to happen, he was always going to be bit-part.
“They need someone who is more permanent who’s out there and available. I know Haaland is talked about a lot, he’s going to cost a lot of money.
“Harry Kane at Spurs, there’s rumours that he might want to leave there.
“I think any one of them, you take any one of them, but I think if I had to choose, then Haaland would definitely be the one.
“Purely for his age, great ability as well, the timing of his career, he’s played under Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] before…
“I think it would make sense for everyone to do it, but there’s going to be other clubs in for him which is going to be difficult.”

SunSport revealed this week that Tottenham will refuse to sell Kane, 27, to any Premier League rivals.
Meanwhile, Haaland is currently being touted around major European clubs by father Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola.
The duo were seen in Barcelona on Thursday for a two-hour transfer meeting before reportedly heading to Real Madrid.
And they are set to sit down with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool – but not United – according to the Mail.
Haaland, 20, boasts 33 goals and eight assists for Dortmund this campaign with Kane on 27 and 16.
Scholes added that the England striker is still a very good option for the Red Devils but may not have the longevity of the youngster.

The 46-year-old noted: “I love Kane, I think he’s brilliant.
“When he first came onto the scene, I likened him to Ruud van Nistelrooy.
“He’s a ruthless finisher, he’s desperate to score goals. I just think at the stages of each one’s career, then you get more out of Haaland.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts to Man Utd transfer links with Erling Haaland and says ‘he has to make own mind up’

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is refusing to be drawn into a public battle to land Erling Haaland. The transfer circus surrounding the young striker has begun again with his agent Mino Raiola and father Alf-Inge conveniently pictured arriving in Barcelona this week.

Erling Haaland is being linked with Manchester United and a reunion with fellow Norwegian Solskjaer at Old TraffordCredit: Getty
The pair also held discussions with Real Madrid and are expected in England TODAY to meet with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool but NOT Manchester United.
SunSport understands United will not meet with Haaland’s agent, who also represents Paul Pogba, but are waiting in the wings and keeping tabs on his situation.
Solskjaer said: “Even though I worked with Erling it’s not right for me as Manchester United manager to talk about Erling, he will make his own mind up.
“I’m focusing on the next two months and whatever happens in the world of football there is only so many places anyone can go to and I just, focus on the ones who are here.”
Red Devils boss Solskjaer had talks with Haaland to try and encourage to move to Old Trafford last January from Red Bull Salzburg.
He chose Borussia Dortmund for whom he has scored a phenomenal 49 goals in 49 games making him the hottest property in world football right now.
Solskjaer thought he had an advantage in the race to sign him having worked with him at Molde.
And he still keeps in touch with the 20-year-old striker and has not given up on getting him.
FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN SIGN UP OFFERS HERE

He admits, however, it will be difficult to do anything out of the public eye in his pursuit of the Leeds-born Norwegian international.
Solskjaer said: “I think the way the world works at the moment, you’d like to do all your business on the quiet and all your talks on the quiet but there are platforms everywhere, there’s news, the media make that more difficult.
“Who can you trust? Hopefully we can suddenly sit here with players no one has written about.
“We conduct our recruitment business, scouting, the players that we are interested in, we do it the right way I hope and feel.”
Haaland has a contract at Dortmund until 2024 but is understood to have a release clause in that.
The initial figure was believed to be around £64million but it is now understood that it could be nearer £100million.

Erling Haaland’s agent set to fly to England TODAY for transfer talks with Chelsea, City and Liverpool – but NOT Man Utd

ERLING HAALAND’S agent Mino Raiola is set to fly to England TODAY for transfer talks with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool but NOT Manchester United. The super agent was spotted flying into Barcelona and Madrid alongside the player’s father Alfe-Inge Haaland on Thursday to hold talks with the El Clasico sides.

Super agent Mino Raiola was papped arriving at an airport in Barcelona
Haaland’s dad Alf-Inge accompanied the super agent on the trip
And it was reported that a further three interested teams were due to begin negotiations around a potential deal for Borussia Dortmund’s prized asset.
The Mail reports Raiola and Haaland senior will arrive in England to hold talks with multiple Premier League giants.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are expected to welcome the pair but SunSport understands United will not meet with Haaland’s agent, who also represents Paul Pogba.
However, the Red Devils are waiting in the wings and keeping tabs on his situation.
The Norwegian has a £65million release clause in his Dortmund contract but it cannot be activated until the end of next season.
And after bagging an incredible 33 goals in just 31 games in all competitions this season – many clubs are not prepared to wait for a chance to secure his services.
The 20-year-old has become arguably the hottest property in world football and Dortmund will demand around £150m for him this summer.
But the Bundesliga side are reluctant to sell their star man with Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc revealing he has told Raiola they are planning for the long-term future with Haaland in mind.

Man Utd’s biggest transfers ever, both in and out, including Ronaldo

On Thuesday, Zorc told Sky Germany: “I spoke to Raiola yesterday (Wednesday). We made our intention clear.
“We plan for the long term with Erling. [Rumours] do not have to be dealt with at all. I can see him with us for a long time.”
Manchester City have been installed by many as Haaland’s most likely destination after dad Alf-Inge played for Citizens from 2000 to 2003.
But Pep Guardiola dashed hopes of a mega money move – which SunSport revealed could cost a total of £300m – to replace the departing Sergio Aguero.
In his Friday press conference, the Spanish boss said: “With these prices we will not buy any striker. It’s impossible. We will not afford it. All the clubs struggle. We are not an exception.
“I don’t know what is going to happen. Today, there is more chance we will not buy a striker next season.”
Chelsea have been linked with Haaland and Aguero but Thomas Tuchel remained coy when talking about players at other clubs.

The unbeaten German boss said: “Same answer as for Haaland. We have full respect for Man City.
“There is no words needed, he’s a world-class player. But we have three competitions in which we are in with City so I won’t speak about their players.”
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked with compatriot Haaland at Molde but insisted it is up to the youngster to make his own mind up about where he heads next.
He said: “Even though I worked with Erling it’s not right for me as Manchester United manager to talk about Erling, he will make his own mind up.
“I’m focusing on the next two months and whatever happens in the world of football there is only so many places anyone can go to and I just, focus on the ones who are here.”
Haaland only joined Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January 2020 but with 49 goals in as many games he has certainly caught the eye of Europe’s top sides.

Man Utd and Arsenal looking to steal Thierry Small, 16, from Everton in transfer deal as ace yet to sign pro contract

MANCHESTER UNITED and Arsenal are hoping to pinch Everton starlet Thierry Small with the 16-year-old yet to sign professional terms at Goodison Park. The teenage sensation was promoted to the Under-23s side at the back end of last year and youth boss David Unsworth backed him to become a first-team regular on Merseyside.
Thierry Small could snub Everton for a move elsewhereCredit: Getty
Small became Everton’s youngest player ever in January when he came on in the 3-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield United aged 16 years and 157 days.
He is considered the best left-back in the country for his age group and his lightning runs down the wing have even drawn comparisons with Bayern Munich’s Canadian star Alphonso Davies.
SunSport understands The Toffees have offered the starlet a three-year professional contract but Small has yet to make a concrete decision on his future.
Talks are set to continue this month with the star eager to play football.
Next season will be the final year of his scholarship terms and Everton could still recoup a transfer fee of around £400,000 if Small leaves before the end of his training contract.
Small is wary about a lack of opportunities since his debut and limited time training with Carlo Ancelotti’s first team.
Everton are understood to be desperate to hang onto the highly rated youngster.
But first choice Lucas Digne and back-up Niels Nkounkou, 20, are ahead of Small in the pecking order.

Ancelotti has even preferred to re-jig his side and use Ben Godfrey and Alex Iwobi out wide rather than blooding the youngsters
United and Arsenal are both monitoring his progress but could miss out with Small’s focus firmly on breaking into men’s football.
Bayern were keen to add Small to the list of young British talent, including England stars Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho, that have moved to the Bundesliga but any hopes of a transfer abroad have been scuppered by Brexit.
Rules now ban 16-18-year-olds from moving into Europe.
Prem sides Brighton and Leeds are both understood to be prepared to offer Small a more direct path into a top flight first team.
And Championship high flyers Brentford are also keen on bringing Everton’s Under-16 Player of the Year from last season into the fold.
Small’s uncle Bryan played for Aston Villa in the Prem and the youngster started out at West Brom.
He moved to Everton’s academy set-up aged 11 and already has bagged a sponsorship deal with Puma.

Man Utd, City and Chelsea dealt bitter transfer blow as Erling Haaland ‘only wants move to Barcelona or Real Madrid’

Mino Raiola and Alfie Haaland were in Spain to speak with rivals Barca and Real Madrid
Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, and dad, Alfie, were in Spain on Thursday to speak with rivals Barca and Real Madrid.
And according to Catalunya Radio, Raiola told Nou Camp president Joan Laporta, the Dortmund forward is only interested in a move to LaLiga.
But, it is claimed Laporta also explained they prefer to sign the 20-year-old next season due to his release clause.
Haaland is available for just £65million in the summer of 2022 per the stipulation.
But any side looking to sign the Norwegian in the next window can be expected to pay close to £150m.
Barca are currently battling huge financial debt, believed to be in the region of £1BILLION.
It leaves them at a disadvantage to Real Madrid, who have the funds to facilitate a deal.

But it is believed the Spanish champions are also eyeing a move for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, 22.
Raiola and Haaland Sr are now expected to meet with Premier League clubs in the coming days.
United were linked with Haaland in 2019, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even meeting with the goal machine.
But he was unable to convince him to make the move to Old Trafford, despite the pair working together at Molde.
City are on the hunt for a new marksman following the news club legend Sergio Aguero, 32, will leave at the end of the season.
Chelsea spent close to £150m on attacking talent last summer, but owner Roman Abramovich is rumoured to be a massive admirer of Haaland.

And Italian paper Tuttosport claims United are prepared to cut their losses on the former Ajax man in an attempt to lure Rabiot to the club.
The report states United are determined to land French ace Rabiot at the end of the season.
It is claimed that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on working with the former PSG man.
Solskjaer has repeatedly defended his sparing use of Van de Beek but the 23-year-old appears to be way down his pecking order in the middle of the park.
Van de Beek has made just two Premier League starts all season with most of his game time coming in the cup competitions.
And the midfielder could be offered a chance to resurrect his career in Italy.
Juve have kept an eye on Van de Beek ever since he steamrolled them with Ajax in the Champions League quarter-finals two years ago.
And the Old Lady are said to be interested in bringing him to Turin to form part of Andrea Pirlo’s revamped side.

The Bianconeri boss is facing a major rebuild with the club set to miss out on winning the title for the first time in a decade.
League leaders Inter Milan have also been linked with a move for Van de Beek who is reportedly set for showdown talks with United chiefs over his lack of minutes.
United are thought to have blocked a potential January loan exit for the playmaker over concerns of weakening their squad midway through the season.
The Dutch ace showed off his undoubted ability by scoring for Holland in their 7-0 demolition of Gibraltar this week.
Van de Beek will be hoping to have impressed Solskjaer enough to start Sunday’s Prem clash against Brighton.

UEFA chiefs are ready to let travelling fans into the Champions League and Europa League finals.
And that is potentially great news for supporters of the five English teams left in Europe.
A meeting of Uefa’s ruling executive committee formally lifted the 30 per cent capacity cap on fans that was put in place in October, allowing local authorities the right to set stadium limits for the rest of this season.
Away fans remain banned for the remaining games in the last eight and semi-final stages of both competitions, which resume next week.
But Uefa will review the measures ahead of the two finals, due to be played in Gdansk and Istanbul at the end of May.

    BRAVE MANC
Manchester United have been sensationally linked with a stunning free transfer swoop for Sergio Aguero.
SunSport exclusively revealed that LaLiga giants Barcelona are set to go all-out to try and land the legendary City forward.
Inter Milan have also emerged as contenders to bring the veteran striker to Italy.

Pogba’s deal expires in June 2022 and Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed Juventus remains the star’s ‘preferred destination’.
Despite the Serie A giants attempting to lower their wage bill, with Cristiano Ronaldo rumoured to be available, they hope to thrash out a deal for the 28-year-old.

The 27-year-old hitman made a name for himself at Ajax between 2014 and 2016, scoring 47 goals in 76 appearances, before then signing for Napoli.

But Manchester United, Everton, West Ham and Tottenham have all showed interest and impressive form in 2021-22 could see Marseille sell up to an English club for an easy profit.

    GIGGS ADVICE TO JAMES
Dan James has revealed the crucial piece of advice he received from Wales boss Ryan Giggs.
“When people ask me what’s the best advice you’ve ever been given, it would probably be from him [Giggs]. It was just ‘be yourself’,” he told the UTD podcast.
“I relate back to maybe the end of last season, I came away from that and tried to be like other players, I looked at other players and thought I need to be like him and be like that.
“It was this season and I kind of thought I’m here for a reason and I looked back at loads of old clips of me being me and then looked at my new clips [and thought] I’m not doing that [anymore].
“It was a reality to check for me in that you can take from him and you can take from different players around you but ultimately, you’re here because of what you do, and it goes back to what Giggsy said to me to just ‘be yourself’, that was so important.”

    MOURINHO’S SHAW CRITICISM WAS PERSONAL
Luke Shaw’s agent Jonathan Barnett has described Jose Mourinho’s criticism of the left-back at Manchester United as ‘personal’.
“My job in that situation is to make sure the player’s spirits are kept up. We try behind the scenes to help them understand what’s gone wrong,” Barnett told The Athletic.
“A lot of it is personal. We had to rebuild his confidence, which we did. We took certain steps. But Luke is a very strong man. He never got too down.
“His family had to be there for him and we had to be there for him. We didn’t force Luke Shaw out of Man United. He wanted to stay there. And that’s what he’s done. And today, he’s a great, great player.”
