Why Max Allegri’s return to Juventus is bad news for Cristiano Ronaldo and puts his transfer future into further doubt

CRISTIANO RONALDO’S future at Juventus has been thrown into even more doubt amid the expected return of former manager Massimiliano Allegri.Andrea Pirlo was sacked on Friday after the club failed to win Serie A for the first time since 2011.

The Old Lady were also knocked out of the Champions League in embarrassing fashion as Porto beat them in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, Allegri is set for a triumphant return to Juventus two years after ending his five-year spell there.
And according to The Express, the Italian coach’s return could spell the end for Ronaldo at the club.
This is because Allegri reportedly asked Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli to get rid of the Portuguese superstar around the time he was sacked.
The request came after Ronaldo had spent just one season playing for the then Italian champions, a campaign in which he netted 28 goals in 43 games.
Over the course of his three seasons in Italy, Ronaldo has not disappointed when it comes to his goalscoring form, netting 101 times in 133 appearances.
However, the ex-Real Madrid man was brought to the club to help them win the Champions League.
And since he arrived Juve have failed to make it past the last eight in Europe, compared with the two finals in three years which they reached before he joined.

Ronaldo and Messi are both named in the Ballon d’Or all-time best XI
It was revealed earlier this week that Ronaldo is expected to hold talks with Juve over his future.
The Portuguese legend, 36, only has a year remaining on his whopping £540,000-a-week deal.
He looked set to depart the club if they missed out on Champions League qualification but Juventus managed to scrape fourth-place in Serie A with a 4-1 win over Bologna.
A host of clubs have been linked with a move for Ronaldo, with both former sides Manchester United and Real Madrid keen on bringing him back.
Paris Saint-Germain are another side who would love to add him to their ranks while his first club, Sporting Lisbon, would be his mother’s ideal destination for her son.

Man Utd could have signed Harry Maguire for just £4million in 2013… if they had listened to old boss David Moyes

MANCHESTER UNITED opted against signing Harry Maguire for just £4MILLION when he was playing for Sheffield United in 2013.Maguire eventually moved to Old Trafford from Leicester City in a mammoth £80m deal in 2019 – a world record for a defender.
Man Utd opted against signing Harry Maguire for just £4m when he was plying his trade at Sheffield United in 2013
David Moyes scouted Maguire while in charge at Old Trafford
Maguire had a mixed start at United, but went on to settle and become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s captain after Ashley Young joined Inter Milan last January.
Former Old Trafford boss David Moyes revealed United could have saved themselves £76million if they had listened to him in 2013, having singled out Maguire as one of his targets.
Sir Alex Ferguson told his Scottish compatriot that the England international would become a world-beater and he should snap him up.
The former Toffees boss then told his scouting team to keep tabs on him, but United ultimately decided against bringing him to Old Trafford.
However, Moyes later changed his mind on the defender – because he was “too big”.
Moyes revealed to talkSPORT last year: “We didn’t try to sign him [when at Man United] but we flagged him up at that time.
The Red Devils turned down the chance to bring Maguire to Old Trafford for £4millionCredit: Getty Images – Getty

“I was very aware of the players in the lower leagues and had a made good career out of bringing them to Everton – whether that be Tim Cahill or all the ones we did through the years.
“Harry Maguire was another one I recognised. He played against Preston North End at home in a league game and I watched him and thought he played really well, but at that time he was really big.
“You thought ‘my goodness, how big is Harry going to be’ because he was a relatively young boy at that time.
“To be fair he looks in terrific shape and he hasn’t changed at all really.”
Maguire joined Hull in 2014 for an initial deal worth £2.5m, before he moved to Leicester in 2017 for a deal rising to £17m.
Moyes added: “When I went to United, we had [Nemanja] Vidic, Rio [Ferdinand], Jonny Evans, Michael Keane, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling.
“So for us to go and buy another young centre-half wasn’t the biggest thing we needed at the time.
“And Harry Maguire has had to go on his journey. Sometimes the players need the journey to get to where they have to go. He might have struggled then.”

Gary Neville names three Man Utd players in swap transfer for Harry Kane that could convince Spurs to sell striker

GARY NEVILLE believes Manchester United’s best route to signing Harry Kane is a players-plus-cash deal. The striker has asked Tottenham to consider bids for a summer transfer with the Red Devils, Manchester City and Chelsea keen.

Rumours have already emerged of United considering sending Jesse Lingard or Anthony Martial to North London to cut down the reported £150million price tag.
And former defender Neville has named Daniel James as another potential makeweight that could push through a deal, adding that the club’s fringe talent gives them an edge over City in the race for Kane.
The 46-year-old told Sky Sports: “It’s difficult.
“City don’t tend to break their budget, do they? [Their record is] £65m-£70m – they’re not going to get him for that.
“So it’s whether they could get a player to Tottenham that would makeweight the deal.
“And I think that’s what United maybe have in Martial, James and Lingard.

“They’re types of players you could send [to Spurs] plus a chunk of money and it might make Daniel Levy happy.”
Neville spoke to Kane for an in-depth interview that was released last week, where the England star spoke openly about his future.
However the pundit was not convinced that he would push hard for a move and would ‘not be surprised’ if Kane stayed at Tottenham.
Neville continued: “In that interview with me he never said he wanted to leave Tottenham or he was going to leave Tottenham.

The Sunday Times claim United will also pay him a multimillion-pound signing-on fee to cover any loyalty bonuses Kane, who has three years left on his contract, would forsake if he were to formally hand in a transfer request.

Man Utd outcast Sergio Romero back on Everton’s transfer wishlist but Ancelotti faces competition from Juventus

EVERTON are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Sergio Romero. The goalkeeper, 34, is set to leave Manchester United as a free agent when his contract expires next month.

Interest has arrived from Goodison Park and Juventus, according to the Mail.
Both clubs see Romero as an ideal back-up to their first-choice shot-stoppers.
The Old Lady are about to bid farewell to Gianluigi Buffon and will need competition for Wojciech Szczesny.
Likewise, Everton reserve keeper Robin Olsen is set for a new challenge once his loan from Roma expires.
United are not due to offer Romero a new contract despite Lee Grant and potentially one of David De Gea or Dean Henderson leaving this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to choose between his goalkeeper options and cash in on whoever will be short of game time.

Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton has been named as the most likely candidate to step in as the new Old Trafford back-up.
Romero’s stay in Manchester has recently been marred by disputes over his lack of opportunities.
The Argentine and wife Eliana were left fuming by Solskjaer’s decision to drop him after the August Europa League win over Copenhagen.
United’s refusal to sanction a move to Everton earlier in the season is also said to have angered the player.

Bild claim Coman, 24, earns £200k a week before tax but ‘would like to have it in net’.
United have apparently ‘indicated’ to the Frenchman they are willing to meet his demands – and make him their joint fifth top earner.
But there is no guarantee of a quick transfer as Bayern are in no rush to make a decision on his future.
And the Bundesliga champions will be able to demand a hefty fee with Transfermarkt valuing him at £58.5million.
United are in the market for a new winger with Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo both top targets.
Coman has long been linked and could be an alternative.

Man City join Man Utd in Danny Ings transfer chase if they fail in Harry Kane bid with Romelu Lukaku also a target

MANCHESTER CITY are reportedly interested in signing Southampton striker Danny Ings if they fail in their pursuit of Harry Kane.Pep Guardiola’s side are thought to be among the Premier League sides chasing Kane, with Manchester United and Chelsea also competing for the England captain who has recently expressed his intent to leave Tottenham.

But if that does not come off, The Athletic are reporting that Man City have the same idea as their local rivals Man Utd in signing fellow English forward Ings.
The Saints striker has impressed for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side since returning to the club following an unsuccessful spell with Liverpool.
After netting eight times during a loan period back at St Mary’s, Ings joined on a permanent deal at the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign.
And since then he has scored a tremendous 38 goals in 72 games for Southampton.
He has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but may feel his options will be limited at the club after Edinson Cavani signed an extension to keep him there another season.
So Man City could be a better fit for Ings, with Sergio Aguero departing and Guardiola often playing without a recognised No9 for much of their title-winning campaign.
The Premier League champions are also said to be considering former Red Devils striker Romelu Lukaku as a secondary option to signing Kane.
The Inter Milan forward joined the Serie A giants from Man Utd in 2019 for £76.5million.
