Man Utd’s net debt falls OVER £50m amid stunning Cristiano Ronaldo transfer return

MANCHESTER UNITED’S debt has fallen by £50million – their annual financial results revealed this week. The Red Devils’ net debt now stands at £419.1million, reduced from the £474.4m they reported last year.

Despite a net loss of £92.2m, a great deal of that can be put down to the club receiving a £66.6m non-cash tax charge.
The decrease in their debt is the result of an increase from season ticket revenues and the increased strength of the pound.
Man Utd’s wage bill has risen by 13.6 per cent to £322.6m, while their total revenue for the year was £494.1m.
They also reported an operating loss of £36.9m, a damning indictment of the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on football clubs over the last 12 months.
This is seen most notably in the matchday revenue which was down to just £7.1m, compared with £89.8m in the year before.
But with crowds coming back and the return of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is upbeat about the future.

He said: “It has been an exciting start to the season at Old Trafford, with capacity crowds in attendance for the first time in almost 18 months.
“We were delighted to welcome back Cristiano Ronaldo to the club, along with Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, to further reinforce the progress that our first team has been making under Ole.
“This was made possible by the strength of our operating model, with sustained investment in the team underpinned by robust commercial revenues.
“Everyone associated with Manchester United can be proud of the resilience we have shown through the challenges created by the pandemic and we look forward to the rest of the season and beyond with great optimism.”
The figures come after it was revealed last week that Man Utd’s club value soared by £271million following Ronaldo’s return.

The announcement of the star’s signing sent the share price soaring by 9.8 per cent at one point before it fell back slightly.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side currently sit top of the Premier League table with ten points from their opening four games.
They face West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Man Utd star Jesse Lingard never came close to sealing transfer return to West Ham, says David Moyes

DAVID MOYES insists West Ham never came close to re-signing Jesse Lingard from Manchester United. The England international attacker reignited his faltering career with a stunning loan spell at the Hammers from January.

Lingard, 28, scored nine times in 16 matches leading to West Ham boss Moyes looking to turn his move into a permanent one during the summer window.
However, despite months of speculation, a transfer never materialised due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s determination to keep the ace at Old Trafford.
Moyes, whose side welcome United to the London Stadium tomorrow, said: “Ole made it quite clear to me early in the transfer window that he wanted to keep him.
“So I knew pretty early that he would be staying at Manchester United.
“I was hearing all the stuff but I had a private conversation with Ole who made it clear he was staying.”
Solskjaer is now believed to be attempting to secure Lingard’s long-term future by offering him a new contract.

And Moyes is refusing to be drawn on whether he will make any more attempts to intervene and bring the ace back to the capital.
He added: “I can’t talk about players at other clubs because that’s not the way we do it.
“But because Jesse was part of our club for a while, I think all I can say is that he made a massive contribution to the team, both on the pitch and off the pitch. We really enjoyed having him.
“I hope in many ways Jesse will look at that time and how well the players treated him and made him welcome, that Jesse will look at that as well. So it may change.
“He was great for us. But simply the manager told me he was keeping him and when that happens, I believe the manager – and that’s the way it went.”

Donny van de Beek ‘has absolutely NO CHANCE’ of staying at Man Utd after struggling since £40m transfer, says Paul Ince

DONNY VAN DE BEEK ‘has absolutely no chance’ of making it at Manchester United, says Paul Ince. The Dutch international midfielder, 24, arrived at Old Trafford in a £40m deal from Ajax, but he has barely featured for the Red Devils.

Van De Beek was handed a rare start at Young Boys on Tuesday but he was subbed off at half time of the Champions League defeat.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed the switch was tactical after United had gone down to ten men due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card.
But the club’s former ‘Guv’nor’ Ince is not convinced and says the ace will never make an impact at the Theatre of Dreams.
When asked by The United Stand if he will turn out to be a success, he said: “Absolutely no chance!.
“He’s tried to make the player happy [by playing him].
“It’s always tough when you don’t play to come and make an impression on your first start and to sub him off at half-time… what does it say to us, what does it say to the fans?

BETTING SPECIAL – GET RONALDO TO SCORE VS WEST HAM AT 30/1
“What does it say to Donny? If I can’t get a full game against Young Boys, ten men or no ten men, then it’s time for me to go.
“There’s nothing Ole could say that would persuade me that my future is at Manchester United.
“I wish it was because it’s the biggest club in the world but he needs to play football.”
Ince even went as far to name at least six players that are ahead of him in the pecking order as he tipped Van De Beek to leave before the end of the campaign.
He added: “[Scott] McTominay is back now, [Nemanja] Matic – who I love – is back, he’s got Fred.
“He’s never not going to play [Bruno] Fernandes or [Paul] Pogba, he’s got [Jesse] Lingard who can play in that role so the signs are there and I expect him to be gone in January.
“Whether it’s a loan… they won’t be getting the money back that they paid for him.
“You feel sorry for him because he looks like a nice lad, looks like he wants to do well, looks like the ultimate professional and he must know now that the writing is on the wall, unfortunately.”

The 27-year-old – who was wanted by Real Madrid and Barcelona – will increase his Man Utd salary by nearly £100,000-a-week with the new contract.
SunSport understands his new terms – which will last until 2026 – could be announced within the next few weeks after successful talks.
The attacking midfielder has become a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, and a vocal leader in the dressing room.
He has made a stunning impact since his £60million signing from Sporting Lisbon around 18-months ago.
Fernandes was one of the reasons Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford over the summer as they are close international pals.

Lingard is currently into the final year of his contract at Manchester United and as yet there has been no agreement over an extension.
But Solskjaer says the 28-year-old, who starred in a loan spell at West Ham last season, has his full support – and talks over his future will continue with the hope of keeping him.
The United boss said: “Jesse has got this season left, we are talking to him and his dad. We see him as a United player in future.
“He’s come back into us after a great spell at West Ham. He showed his quality there.
“He’s back in England squad, he scores goals for England and we really want to see the best of him.
“We support him and hope to keep him here. He’s a red through and through. “

Lingard goes back to the London Stadium with the Red Devils to face the Hammers in the Premier League on Sunday.
The veteran Uruguayan suffered a strain recently and did not feature against Newcastle and Young Boys.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer said another forward, Edinson Cavani, could feature in the Carabao Cup tie against West Ham on Wednesday.
Solskjaer says the depth of his squad now means there is no need to rush Cavani back but says he hopes he will rejoin the group next week.
He’s a top professional and he can’t wait to get back on the pitch.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Edinson Cavani
He said: “Hopefully he’ll start training after the weekend. He may be involved on Wednesday.
“Edi had a fantastic season last season, the impact he made towards the end when he got his fitness.
“He struggled early on with injuries. We feel to get the best of him, have to have him 100 per cent fit and not pushing him.
“We’ve a strong squad that will allow us to let players heal and take no risks.
“I see him having a massive impact, he’s that type of personality and player.
“He’s a top professional and he can’t wait to get back on the pitch.”

Lingard’s United team-mates publicly rallied around the star following his error against Young Boys and took to social media to show their support.
In a reply to the winger’s apologetic post on Instagram, Bruno Fernandes wrote: “We win together. We lose together.”
Paul Pogba added: “The measure of success is how many times you bounce back. We strong”.

And Diogo Dalot replied with the words “always together with you”.
Man United will look to bounce back in Europe when they take on Villarreal next in the Champions League.
The club will play Aston Villa in the Premier League prior to that game.

Man Utd transfer blow as Leon Goretzka signs new Bayern Munich contract after being linked with exit

LEON GORETZKA has dashed Man United’s hopes luring him to Old Trafford with Bayern Munich sealing a new deal with the star. The midfielder, who was a Real Madrid target, has signed a new five-year contract to stay with the German champions until 2026.
Leon Goretzka has penned a new deal to remain at Bayern Munich until 2026
Goal reports the Bundesliga club’s deal with the Germany international to be worth between £10million and £12.8m a year.
And the move ends rumours linking the former Schalke star, 26,  with a Red Devils switch on a free, with his previous deal due to expire at the end of this season.
Of his new deal, Goretzka said: “I am very happy that I was able to extend my contract early until 2026.
“We have won everything there is to be won over the past three years.
“But it is even nicer than winning a title to confirm and repeat these successes. We want to build on this in the next few years.
“The team, the club and the environment are not only highly professional but also familiar. This mixture is one of the guarantors of the success of this club.

Bayern Chief Executive Oliver Kahn said: This contract extension is a sign from Leon that he is convinced that we will continue to be as successful at FC Bayern in the future as we were in the past.
“It is crucial for the development of FC Bayern that we keep our top performers in the long term.
“To be successful as a club, we need players who are permanently motivated – and Leon Goretzka doesn’t have to be told about motivation.
Goretzka, whose team will play VfL Bochum next, has won three Bundesliga titles and a Champions League with Bayern since moving to the club from Schalke in July 2018.
United are reported to have been on the hunt for a central midfielder this summer.

It is thought the player’s talks with Bayern had stalled due to Old Trafford interest in the star.
This Goretzka provided two assists in Germany’s 6-0 trouncing of Armenia in a World Cup qualifier.
And the player notched up five top-flight goals and six assists for Bayern last term helping the club to win their 31st Bundesliga title.

Soon after completing a £73million move for Sancho, 21, from Borussia Dortmund, Varane, 28, arrived after leaving Real Madrid.
But according to Corriere Dello Sport, Napoli’s Koulibaly was preferred to the Frenchman, who later arrived for £42million.
It is claimed United were ready to offer £30m for the Senegal captain, but were told it would not be enough.
Napoli before have set a £100m price tag on Koulibaly, one of the highest-rated defenders in the world.
But, after recent financial woes at the Serie A club, it is believed they would be willing to slash their asking price.
Nevertheless, United settled for Varane, who left the Spanish capital with just one year left on his deal.
