Man Utd ‘interested in Lionel Messi free transfer’ and will try to pip PSG to deal for Barcelona legend

MANCHESTER UNITED are interested in making a shock free transfer swoop for Lionel Messi, according to reports. The Barcelona great, 34, made an emotional exit from the Nou Camp on Sunday.

Despite agreeing a new contract at his boyhood club, LaLiga rules prevented the terms being signed.
It means the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is now a free agent and open to offers.
And according to Duncan Castles, United may put a contract on the table for Messi and his family to consider.
It is thought the Red Devils are crunching the numbers to work out if they can afford a deal.
The club have already spent £73million on Jadon Sancho and a further £34.2m on Raphael Varane this summer.
However, the Old Trafford side face plenty of strong competition for Messi’s signature.
Paris Saint-Germain look to be in pole position to sign him with a medical imminent.
They expect to land the Argentine on a two-year contract – with reported wages of £570,000 per week.

That would see Mauricio Pochettino secure free signings for Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma in the same transfer window.
And Messi would line up in one of the most devastating attacks of all time alongside ex-Barca team-mate Neymar and superstar Frenchman Kylian Mbappe.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and even Tottenham were also thought to be considering offers for Messi but it would take something special to prevent PSG winning the race.

Romelu Lukaku will become most expensive player in history in accumulated transfer fees after Chelsea move

ROMELU LUKAKU is set to become the most expensive player in history in accumulated transfer fees as he nears his Chelsea return. The Belgium striker is close to re-joining Chelsea – ten years after first doing so – with Inter Milan accepting a £97.5million bid.

It means he will have cost the most in joint transfers ever, surpassing Neymar’s prior record of £246.6m.
The Brazilian moved from Santos, to Barcelona and then PSG in a world-record £198m deal in 2017.
But with Lukaku now heading back to Stamford Bridge, it will see his total transfer fees rocket to £293.5m.
The forward started his career with Anderlecht in his homeland before signing for Chelsea for £10m in 2011.
But after three years, and just 15 games with no goals, Lukaku was sold to Everton for £28m in 2014.

There, he cemented himself as a prolific scorer, with 87 goals in 166 games before securing himself a mega move to Manchester United in 2017.
Lukaku snubbed interest from Chelsea to move to Old Trafford, where he enjoyed mixed success as their No9.
He scored 42 goals in 96 matches but failed to fit in United’s style as he was again moved on.
Inter signed the Belgian for £74m in 2019 in a move which rejuvenated Lukaku.
He scored 34 goals in his first season as Inter narrowly missed out on the Serie A by just a point.

But last season Lukaku helped the Italian giants end their 11 year wait for a league title as he hit 24 goals in 36 matches.
It has convinced Chelsea to go back in for their old striker, as they looked to bolster their threat in front of goal.
And having seen their £97.5m offer accepted it is the latest in a long line of lucrative moves for the star forward.

Lingard STAYING at Man Utd, hints Solskjaer but star tests positive for Covid just a week before season opener vs Leeds

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER hinted Jesse Lingard is STAYING at Manchester United – but the playmaker has tested positive for Covid-19.Lingard, who revived his career on loan at West Ham last season, confirmed he was sidelined after catching coronavirus.

He tweeted: “Really gutted to have tested positive after a good pre season, luckily I feel fine and will follow the guidelines and be back with the boys on pitch very soon!
    “Thank you for your support.”
Lingard’s setback will see him miss today’s pre-season friendly against Everton, and potentially their Premier League opener against Leeds on August 14.
The midfielder, who narrowly missed out on a place in England’s Euros squad this summer, shined at West Ham after his loan move in January.
He scored nine times for the Hammers in 16 games and was subject to a potential permanent transfer.
But it is believed Lingard, 28, wanted to stay while at Old Trafford West Ham were unwilling to meet United’s valuation.
Solskjaer also appeared to confirm the England international would not leave as he referenced his strength in depth.
He said: “Adding these extra players – Jesse coming back, Jadon [Sancho] coming in, Anthony [Martial] being fit again – gives us a lot more to work with.”

Incoming Man Utd star Raphael Varane set to fly to UK today and will sign contract after quarantine and medical

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made signing the 28-year-old a key priority this summer as he looked to bring in a suitable partner for Harry Maguire.
And Los Blancos were forced to accept a cut-price deal for Varane who was poised to become a free agent in 2022.
After ten years spent at Madrid where he won three LaLiga titles and four Champions League crowns, the World Cup winner was keen for a fresh challenge.
The ex-Lens ace is believed to be ready to put pen to paper on a four-year deal which will be signed after he completes his medical and quarantines in the UK.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Raphael Varane update. He’s ready to fly to Manchester today.
“The Visa issue is finally to be resolved in the next few hours – original plan was to fly earlier this week.
“Now: quarantine, medical and then official announcement. Contract [2025] into his agents hands.”
Before adding: “Confirmed. Raphael Varane ready to fly to Manchester today, contract until June 2025 + option 2026 set to be signed after quarantine and medical.”
BETTING SPECIAL – GET LEICESTER AT 60/1 OR MAN CITY AT 30/1

United legend Gary Neville has praised the imminent arrival of Varane at the Theatre of Dreams along with the £73m purchase of Jadon Sancho.
He told Sky Sports: “I think Varane is really exciting. Sancho’s exciting but it was almost inevitable that was going to happen.”
Neville then continued: “Varane is exciting and I think last season, every United fan, every commentator, pundit, fan and analyst watched United and said, ‘They need a partner for Harry Maguire’, and they’ve got one.
“He’s a good age, got massive experience, he’s got a good centre-back alongside him. In fact, he’s got a good back four.
“So he’s not coming into a team where he’s having to hold it together. He’s, you could argue, the last piece of the jigsaw in the sense that the rest of them are doing a pretty good job.”

Man Utd refuse to give up on Kieran Trippier transfer but Atletico Madrid play hardball over £34m release clause

MANCHESTER UNITED are not giving up on signing Kieran Trippier – despite Atletico Madrid refusing to budge over the £34million fee. The England right-back, 30, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, but the LaLiga champions will refuse to let him leave for anything less than his release clause.
Trippier reportedly told England team-mates he wants to return to his native North West if the opportunity arisesCredit: Getty
Trippier, who returned to training this week, reportedly has his ‘heart set on a return to the Premier League’, with United widely reported as his preferred destination.
SunSport reported exclusively that the ex-Tottenham man was in talks to buy England pal Raheem Sterling’s £3m Cheshire mansion in July ahead of a potential return to the North West.
But the Red Devils were reportedly only prepared to pay around £18m for Trippier, and Atletico will expect United to raise their bid significantly if they are serious about signing Trippier.
The Bury-born defender has spent two years in the Spanish capital and made 53 league appearances after signing from Spurs for a fee of £20m plus add-ons.
After playing an instrumental role in winning LaLiga with Atletico last season, the 33-cap England man is ready to move on and would welcome a move to Old Trafford, according to MARCA.
The England international would be open to a move back to the Premier League after two seasons in the Spanish capital.MARCA
Trippier is ‘highly regarded’ at the Wanda Metropolitano and Atletico would prefer to keep him, but would reluctantly allow him to leave should United meet his £34m release clause.
His departure may also hang upon other dealings in the transfer market though, with Atletico reportedly interested in Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi as a replacement.
The Italian full-back spent last season on loan at PSG and also played a part in his country’s triumph over England in the final at Euro 2020.
Should Atletico secure the services of Florenzi, they would be more prepared to sell Trippier, with back-up right-back Sime Vrsjalko also set to leave the club.
United’s pursuit of Trippier, who they hope will provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, may depend upon their ability to move other players on, with both Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba linked with moves away.

Having already secured the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, it is thought that Man United will need to raise funds through player sales before they can further add to their squad.
The Red Devils are also reportedly interested in Saul Niguez, 26, who has been made available for transfer by Atletico boss Diego Simeone and has been linked with possible moves to both Liverpool and Chelsea.
The Spanish midfielder could be available for as little as £40m, with his representatives set to travel to the UK this weekend for talks with the interested Premier League clubs.

Paul Pogba set to start season with Man Utd against Leeds but could still make PSG transfer before window shuts

PAUL POGBA will start the season with Manchester United but could still move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to reports. The World Cup winner has been heavily linked with a move to the French giants but is likely to feature in United’s Premier League opener against Leeds before any transfer takes place.

Pogba, 28, has just 11 months left on his Old Trafford contract.
And although he hasn’t officially rejected United’s extension offer, the Frenchman will take his time before deciding where his future lies, according to the Telegraph.
Pogba will reportedly make a decision before the European transfer window shuts next month but will be available for selection when United host Leeds on August 14.
The former Juve man linked up with his United team-mates at pre-season training in Scotland on Tuesday.
He arrived at the facility by taxi with supporters waiting to catch a glimpse of the star.
After a tumultuous Euro 2020 with France, which saw them crash out of Euro 2020 at the hands of Switzerland in the last 16, it was thought Pogba was heading for a United exit.
PSG quickly emerged as favourites to sign the midfield dynamo.
Bookmakers Sky Bet were so sure of Pogba’s imminent exit as they priced the Ligue 1 outfit at 5/4 to clinch his signature before the transfer window closes.
    ‘TALKS ARE ONGOING’
It had been reported Pogba, who scored and set-up three goals in 26 games for the Red Devils in the Premier League last season, had turned down a huge new £350,000-a-week contract from the club.
SunSport revealed the France international’s agent Mino Raiola had even discussed personal terms with PSG in July.
But despite all the speculation surrounding Pogba’s future, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is adamant he’s staying put.
The 48-year-old Norwegian has insisted contract talks between the club and their record £89million signing are still on-going.
When asked about the versatile ace’s future after United’s shock 4-2 friendly defeat to QPR, Solskjaer was upbeat.
He said: “The talks are ongoing between Paul’s representatives and our representatives.

“All the dialogue I’ve had with Paul is he’s looking forward to the season.”
Solskjaer’s hopes of keeping Pogba have been given a boost by United’s signing of Jadon Sancho and Raphel Varane.
The Frenchman is said to be excited by the ambitious swoop for the pair and is considering keeping his options open until 2022.

Man Utd set for £47m cash boost as Inter Milan owe Romelu Lukaku transfer payment with more to come if he joins Chelsea

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly still owed £47million by Inter Milan in Romelu Lukaku transfer payments. And they could earn even more if the striker joins Chelsea this summer due to a sell-on clause they have.

Inter signed Lukaku for £73million in 2019 from United and agreed a deal to pay in instalments.
But according to The Express, the Italian champions still have £47m left to pay.
Lukaku, 28, helped Inter to their first league title in 11 years last season with 24 goals in 36 games.
But the club are still struggling financially, with debts of close to £548million, a primary reason manager Antonio Conte left.
And while Inter do not want to lose hitman Lukaku, Chelsea have already bid for the Belgian, who they had from 2011-2014.
    UNITED’S SELL-ON CLAUSE
SunSport revealed they turned down an approach of £86m with left-back Marcos Alonso, 30, included in the deal.
And it is believed Inter want at least £100m guaranteed for the man who snubbed a Blues return in 2017 to instead join United.
But when Lukaku left Old Trafford, a sell-on clause entitling United to four and five per cent of any future sale was put on, The Telegraph say.
It means Chelsea could give their Premier League rivals and even bigger financial boost if they land the Belgium international.
Stamford Bridge boss Thomas Tuchel has made it clear to them he needs a top-class striker to help bridge the gap between themselves and champions City this season.

The Blues originally prioritised a move for Erling Haaland, 21, but despite applying pressure have found Borussia Dortmund unwilling to drop their £170m asking price.
And they have found Bayern Munich just as tough to crack after enquiring about the availability of Robert Lewandowski.
With Harry Kane intent on moving to City it leaves Lukaku as the most viable of the best strikers in the world to get a deal done for, but it will come at a cost.

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton has arrived on a free, while the Red Devils have splashed out £73million to bring in winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
And United have also reached an agreement with Real Madrid for defender Raphael Varane in a deal potentially rising to £42.7m.
Solskjaer is still eyeing up a right-back and central midfielder, with ESPN declaring Atletico Madrid defender Trippier and Rennes starlet Camavinga are their top targets.
The news outlet states that United need to sell to buy, with ten players understood to have been made available for transfer.
It has been claimed that United are looking to recoup £100m, with Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Phil Jones and Diogo Dalot up for sale.
Andreas Pereira, Daniel James, Alex Telles, Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams are also believed to have been deemed as surplus to requirements.
And United are also said to be prepared to cash in on World Cup winner Paul Pogba, who has just a year left to run on his contract at the Theatre of Dreams.
Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with a £50m move for the ex-Juventus ace should he decide against extending his stay in England.

Former Tottenham full-back Trippier is reportedly keen to link up with United as he looks to complete a move back to the Premier League.
SunSport understands that Solskjaer is determined to secure his services to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
But the Red Devils may have a hard time in convincing France international Camavinga to join.
It is thought that the 18-year-old favours a move to Spain with Los Blancos already holding talks with the player’s agent.
