Man Utd star Jesse Lingard transfer target for Barcelona and AC Milan with England star’s contract expiring next summer

Lingard, 28, is attracting some of Europe’s biggest clubs and Barca and AC Milan are the latest to emerge, according to the Mail.
He can sign pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs in January.
And SunSport exclusively revealed this week United will consider selling him for £15m in January if he continues to reject his boyhood club’s offers.
Having revived his career on loan at West Ham last season, Lingard has struggled to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI since his return this summer.
He has come off the bench to score a winner at the Hammers and set up Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal against Villarreal.
The England international has been in talks over an extension to his contract, but he wants to keep his options open with the view of making Gareth Southgate’s squad for next year’s World Cup.

SunSport understands he has been offered terms around £135,000-a-week at Old Trafford, a decent increase on his current deal.
The academy graduate is interested in staying, but wants assurances he will get regular first-team action.
Lingard holds United close to his heart after a two-decade association.
The Red Devils do not want to lose him on a free at the end of the campaign, if he decides he wants to go.
So Old Trafford chiefs will discuss letting him leave in January if they can find a buyer.
Lingard is expected to get playing time in Champions League, cup competitions and off the bench in the Premier League.

United valued him at around £25m over the summer, but rebuffed interest from suitors.
West Ham, along with Leicester and other Premier League sides, have shown interest in the Warrington-born ace.
But he now has offers from LaLiga and Serie A giants who showed strong interest in signing him as a free agent.

Ronaldo looked set to join rivals Man City before a phone call from Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded him to come back to the club he left for Real Madrid in 2009.
His arrival followed the captures of French defender Raphael Varane from Los Blancos, winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund plus freebie reserve goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has now claimed United had originally not been planning on a move for Ronaldo.
Instead, they wanted to bring in either 18-year-old Camavinga from Rennes or Saul from Atletico Madrid to bolster their midfield.
French international Camavinga has now gone on to sign for LaLiga giants Real Madrid.
Meanwhile Saul did get a transfer to the Premier League.
He has joined Chelsea on loan in a £4.5m deal for the rest of the season.

However, the decision to instead get Ronaldo has left boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still with a dilemma in the middle of the park after initially identifying it as an area he wanted to strengthen.
Scott McTominay and Fred are usually deployed by the Norwegian while veteran Nemanja Matic is reaching the twilight stage of his career.
And doubts still remain over Donny van de Beek’s future as the Dutchman continues to struggle for match action.

Now he has penned a deal with the Italian minnows until June and will be looking to help the 17th-placed Serie A side beat the drop.
The Argentine stopper also has the option of staying an extra year if everything goes to plan.
Venezia released a statement confirming the news earlier, staying: “Venezia FC is pleased to announce the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero, 34, on a free transfer.
“Romero is Argentina’s all-time most-capped goalkeeper and last played for Manchester United. Welcome, Sergio.”
Romero twice came close to joining Everton only for the transfer to collapse both times.
He has also discussed terms with LaLiga sides Valencia and Granada.

And potential switches to Roma and Spezia were ended when financial constraints led to them looking elsewhere.
Romero impressed as deputy to David de Gea after his arrival at Old Trafford in 2015.
But Dean Henderson’s emergence on the scene at United led to him growing frustrated over a lack of game time and led to his departure.
Romero’s wife even vented her fury on social media when he was denied a loan move to Everton last year.
The Toffees were prepared to cover his £100,000-a-week wages and fork out a £2m fee to secure his services.
However, United then demanded a permanent £8m fee despite him entering the final 12 months of his contract.

LIVERPOOL are considering a transfer move for Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele, according to reports.Dembele, 24, has interested the Reds for some time and could be signed to provide competition for the likes of Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota.
Ousmane Dembele is wanted by several clubs across Europe
The Frenchman signed for Barca in 2017 for a fee of £138million but his contract expires at the end of the season.
That means he is affordable, and though Barcelona want to keep him they are requesting he accepts a reduction in his £200k a week wages.
Dembele has the ball in his court as a result, with Liverpool one of several teams eyeing a free transfer, report TEAMtalk.
Manchester United have been long-term admirers of the winger.
Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly chasing Dembele too, as are Newcastle now they have more spending power.
Elsewhere in Europe Juventus and Bayern Munich could also try and tempt him away from the Nou Camp.

Liverpool are determined to land a new wide forward however, having previously targeted West Ham star Jarrod Bowen.
Watford’s Ismaila Sarr is another player who has interested them in the past and would represent a much cheaper option than Dembele.

How Liverpool missed out on Cristiano Ronaldo just a week before Man Utd transfer after ‘fee trebled’ overnight

LIVERPOOL failed to sign Cristiano Ronaldo only a week before he joined Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson gazumped his rivals, according to Phil Thompson. The then-Reds assistant boss has revealed that his team were one of many English clubs interested in the Portuguese forward.
Ronaldo went on to become a mega star at Old TraffordCredit: PA:Press Association
Ronaldo had already declared that a move to Anfield was “a dream” with agents Paul Stretford, Jorge Mendes and Tony Henry negotiating his exit from Sporting CP.
In recalling the 2003 transfer to The Athletic, Thompson states that a £4million fee was required.
He noted: “I asked what kind of salary he would want and they said it was £1 million per year after tax. That was a lot for an 18-year-old kid but they said that was negotiable.
“It was a Sunday and I explained to them that I needed to go back to Liverpool and speak to Gerard Houllier and see what we could do. I fed all the information back to Gerard, who said he would speak to [chief executive] Rick Parry.
“Lo and behold, the following week I’m at Melwood when the yellow ticker on Sky Sports News says: Manchester United sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting for £12.2m.
    “I couldn’t believe my eyes.”
As Thompson says, United had not paid the £4m fee earlier touted and he was left shocked at how the figure changed overnight.

The former defender continued: “Tony told me that when he’d got off the plane on the Monday he had got a call to say he was off the deal. It was down to Stretford and Mendes instead.
“It was astonishing that the fee trebled.
“He was clearly a big talent but no one could have predicted back then how great he was going to be.”
Ronaldo went on to win a treble of Premier League titles in Manchester with 118 goals in almost 300 appearances in his first spell with the club.

And, according to Sport, under pressure boss Ronald Koeman has identified Manchester United man Donny van de Beek as someone he would like to add to his squad.
The 24-year-old Dutchman struggled to make any sort of impact during his first campaign at Old Trafford last season.
And things haven’t improved much at the start of the new season as he has started just one of Man Utd’s seven Premier League games.
A move to Barca could give Van de Beek a second chance to rediscover the form he showed at Ajax.
Another man who Koeman’s side are looking at closely is Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele.
The Frenchman arrived in North London for a club record fee of £55million in 2019 but has found it difficult to sustain a lengthy period of consistency.

Ndombele enjoyed some good form last season but then handed in a transfer request in the summer.
He was offered to Barcelona as Spurs looked to offload him, but the Spanish side could not afford the 24-year-old due to their financial problems.
Two other midfielders the club are looking at currently reside in Serie A and are set to become free agents in the summer.
Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic and AC Milan’s Franck Kessie both have contracts that expire at the end of the season.

And Barcelona could look to take full advantage of that situation by snapping them up in January.
Koeman’s side have suffered a very tough start to the season, winning just three of their first seven LaLiga games.
They have also been beaten 3-0 in both their Champions League matches by Bayern Munich and Benfica.

JUVENTUS are reportedly putting together a £10million-a-year package to lure Paul Pogba back to Turin. However, it means the Manchester United midfielder must take a pay cut to make the return to Serie A.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport Juventus are said to be working on a proposal to bring the French midfielder, 28, back to Serie A.
The report suggests Juve are willing to offer around £190k-a-week.
But Pogba already reportedly earns £12m-a-year at Old Trafford, meaning a significant pay-cut is in store should a return to Turin be on the cards.
Gazetta also reveal that for Juve to press on with a deal, players must first be moved on from the Allianz Stadium.
Midfielders Adrian Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey are two players who could be sold, as well as American Weston McKennie.
The news comes after Pogba revealed in midweek that he is still talks to his pals back at Juve.

Speaking to Mediaset as reported by Fabrizio Romano, he said: “I like Turin! I always speak with former Juve team-mates like Dybala.
“I’m in Manchester now, I’m under contract until June then let’s see.
“I want to complete this season at best level – then we see.”
Pogba previously spent four trophy-laden seasons with the Old Lady, turning out 178 times for the Serie A giants.
During that time he scored 34 goals, helping the club to four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias and two Supercoppas.
The midfielder has been at the centre of intense speculation regarding what club’s colours he will be wearing this time next year.
Recent reports have suggested he is now happier at Man Utd than he was in the past.
But the prospect of a return to Turin to link up with his old friends at Juve could be hard to turn down.

Jesse Lingard hints at Man Utd transfer exit as attacker says he wants ‘regular football’ to seal England World Cup spot

JESSE LINGARD has revealed he needs ‘regular football’ to have any hope of making Gareth Southgate’s 2022 World Cup squad. The Manchester United man was linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer, but ended up staying to fight for his place in the first team.

But Premier League appearances have been hard to come by so far this seasonCredit: Getty
But since the start of the new campaign the 28-year-old has made just three Premier League appearances – all from the bench.
And across those games he has played just a combined 45 minutes of Prem football.
However that did include a dramatic winner against old club West Ham, and now another call-up to Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad after netting against Andorra last month.
Lingard also netted after coming off the bench in the 4-1 win against Newcastle in September – the same day as Cristiano Ronaldo’s emotional return.
Yet in an England press conference, Lingard admitted to reporters: “Obviously, the World Cup is a long way away but… you need regular football.
“I was so close to going to the Euros and I think obviously it plays a huge part and it’s a big factor.

“If you’re playing over 20 or 25 games, of course you know you’re knocking on the door so I think it does play a big part in that.
“I’m not doing any harm at the moment – if I keep performing well and doing well you never know what might happen so I keep confident in myself and when I get when I get time on the pitch I’ve got to carry on doing what I’m doing.
“You want to start games. When I’m a sub I’m always ready to play. I’m always ready to be needed when I’m called up.
“It’s one of those things I’m going through at the moment but I think on recent performances hopefully we’ll see a change in the next few weeks.”
Lingard’s impressive performances on loan at West Ham in the second half of last season saw him called up to Southgate’s preliminary Euro 2020 squad.
He netted nine goals in 16 games for David Moyes’ side, as well as providing five assists.

Ultimately Lingard failed to make the cut for Southgate’s final squad for England’s Euro 2020 campaign, but was immediately recalled for September’s internationals.
But Lingard has hinted that he needs to be playing at least 20-25 games per-season to force his way into Southgate’s World Cup plans.
The Red Devils academy graduate remains linked with a move away from Old Trafford, and has even been urged to swap Old Trafford for pastures new by club legend Gary Neville.
