Gianluca Di Marzio claims Trippier remains a target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after he was chased unsuccessfully by United over the summer.
Atletico Madrid refused to sell the England right-back following his pivotal role in their LaLiga title win last term.
But with Atleti now playing a new system and already falling five points off the summit, Trippier’s future in Spain is looking less secure.
And that could finally pave the way for him to join United, who have also been less than convincing this term.
It’s reckoned negotiations could start shortly ahead of a potential January switch.
And should United get their hands on Trippier, it could see Portugal international Dalot leave Old Trafford.

He is said to be a target for Roma boss Mourinho.
The Special One signed Dalot for United in 2018.
And Mourinho believes his compatriot can provide some much-needed depth at full-back.
Roma would prefer to take Dalot on loan with an option to buy him next summer.
But United are sure to prefer a permanent deal to take place immediately.

Zinedine Zidane ‘attracted’ to Man Utd but dancer wife could block Real Madrid legend from taking job

And with United facing Watford, Chelsea and Arsenal in their next three top-fight matches, Solskjaer could find himself out a job if results don’t improve.
According to the Daily Record, United would be interested in bringing Zidane to the Theatre of Dreams should they terminate Solskjaer’s contract.
It has been stated that Zizou, who departed Real Madrid in the summer, is attracted to the opportunity at taking charge.
Should he be appointed, he would be reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, who he worked with at the Bernabeu.
He would also work alongside compatriot Paul Pogba, who he failed to sign during his time in Madrid.
Though the report insists his dancer partner Veronique isn’t keen on living in Manchester, and would prefer her husband to take a longer break.

And Bild reporter Christian Falk has revealed that Zidane is now set to wait until next year before making a decision on his future.
He tweeted: “TRUE. Man Utd had the idea of Zinedine Zidane as new manager.
“Zidane let the board know that he doesn’t feel ready for the Premier League at the moment and prefers to take a break until summer.”

SunSport understand United chiefs held an emergency board meeting to discuss future plans and potential replacements.
As it stands, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is the favourite to succeed Solskjaer.
That’s according to bookmakers Betfair, who’ve priced the Northern Irishman at 4/6.

Man Utd and Chelsea boost in £64m Erling Haaland transfer chase as Real Madrid ‘accept he is going to Premier League’

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of Erling Haaland after it was reported Real Madrid have ‘accepted he is going to the Premier League’.The Spanish giants are desperate to sign the Norwegian, whose release clause enables him to leave Borussia Dortmund for £64million next summer.

The Norwegian has established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in footballCredit: Getty
But they are now braced for disappointment with club suits believing the Dortmund sensation will sign for an English side instead.
That’s according to journalist Josep Pedrerol, who said: “Real Madrid assumes that Haaland will play in England next year and they have it ruled out.”
Bullish Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had hoped to sign both Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe in a stunning double deal.
He said last month: “Which one do I choose to build a new project? I take both without a doubt.
“At Real Madrid, there are always the best players in the world. Florentino will bring them both back.”
But now it appears they will have to settle for Mbappe as the focal point to their future.

The Spanish giants almost secured the World Cup winner in the summer but failed to reach an agreement with PSG before the window slammed shut.
Haaland has been linked with a number of English sides including Man Utd, Chelsea and Manchester City.
The 21-year-old has netted 13 goals in just 10 appearances for Dortmund so far this season.
That is despite the Norwegian suffering a couple of niggling injuries, the latest of which his dad Alf-Inge has revealed could keep him out until Christmas.
The Dortmund striker has been out of action since his side’s 4-0 battering by Ajax in the Champions League last month.

And Alf-Inge told Norwegian channel TV 2: “He’s doing relatively well considering the situation, but he’ll be out for a little while.
“It would be a bonus if he gets some games before Christmas, but it’s rather unlikely.”
The news means Haaland is almost certain to miss Dortmund’s crucial clash with Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich on December 4. More

Brendan Rodgers house-hunting in Cheshire as Man Utd identify Leicester boss as top choice to replace Solskjaer

BRENDAN RODGERS moved a step closer to the Manchester United job by going house-hunting in Cheshire. Leicester’s boss — United’s No 1 choice to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer — is looking for a new family home in football’s jet-set areas of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge.

The news will intensify speculation that ex-Liverpool chief Rodgers will take over at Old Trafford before Christmas.
However, United’s top brass have decided Rodgers will be given NO money to spend in the January transfer window.
United’s board believes the squad is far better than their sixth place in the Prem suggests — and throwing more money at it is not the answer.
Solskjaer brought in another three big names last summer, in Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, and has spent over £400million in his three years as boss.
But United are still no nearer to a title challenge, are far from certain to make the knockout stages of the Champions League and have won just four of their last 12 games.
There are claims senior players have lost faith in Solskjaer.

And the 5-0 Liverpool humiliation plus the pitiful 2-0 home derby loss to City before the international break was the final straw.
An emergency board meeting discussed replacements and pinpointed Rodgers as the man they wanted next — ASAP.
Sources close to the Northern Irishman, 48, reveal he and his wife — from Liverpool — are searching for a new Cheshire base as a priority.
Ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, now at Spurs, and former Real Madrid chief Zinedine Zidane were on the list but both wanted a war chest of around £250m over the next two windows.
Solskjaer jetted off to Norway on holiday at the start of the international break — a call which surprised some at the club given the current crisis.

Man Utd ready to let Dean Henderson leave on 18 MONTH LOAN transfer rather than rot on bench after losing De Gea battle

MANCHESTER UNITED will let keeper Dean Henderson go out on loan for EIGHTEEN MONTHS. The 24-year-old has lost out to David De Gea in the fight for the No 1 jersey and can now move on rather than rot on United’s bench.

And in a shock new development the Old Trafford club will let the one-cap England man go out on a long-term ‘temporary’ transfer.
Henderson could be gone in the January window and the Red Devils will be happy if he finds a home where he is not just going for the rest of the season.
It lets the stopper get the first-team action he needs and also takes away the constant questions about who plays at United.
And Henderson can still come back to the club down the line and make a renewed bid to be first choice after the surprise downturn in his fortunes.
Henderson was widely expected to challenge for the No1 jersey at Old Trafford this season after briefly snatching the No 1 sport the previous campaign.
But the shot-stopper was hit hard after contracting Covid-19 in the summer.

And he has barely had a sniff this year after struggling with lasting effects nearly two months after first getting the virus in July.
De Gea was unopposed for the No1 jersey at the start of the season and he has not looked back since.
The Spaniard has been shining light for United in what has been a below-par start to the campaign for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
After playing 26 times for United last season Henderson has been limited to just one appearance this season – the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham at the end of September.
The goalkeeper has also missed out on Gareth Southgate’s last three England squads and with a World Cup on the horizon he will be desperate to force his way into Three Lions contention.
Mega-rich Newcastle are reportedly keen on a move for Henderson and could offer a potential route back into the national team.
He is currently behind Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone in the England pecking order.

Paul Gascoigne finally reveals why he rejected Sir Alex Ferguson and Man Utd transfer

PAUL GASCOIGNE has lifted the lid on the reason why he decided against joining Manchester United in 1988.The 54-year-old eventually signed for Tottenham from Newcastle, despite giving Sir Alex Ferguson his word that he would ply his trade at Old Trafford.

And Gasgoigne has revealed he rejected the Red Devils as he didn’t believe he would force Bryan Robson and Neil Webb out of the starting XI.
Speaking to Robson in an interview to promote a new film celebrating the United legend’s career, the former Lazio man stated he wasn’t sure whether he would feature regularly under Fergie.
He told United’s website: “There was the Gaffer [Robson] and Neil Webb, always together [on England duty].
“I’m thinking – and I probably shouldn’t say this, because he’ll [Sir Alex Ferguson] probably be watching – but I thought: ‘I’m never going to get a game here’.
“And then Neil Webb did his ankle. He got taken off and I got the chance to play with the Gaffer [Robson] in midfield [for England], which, for me, was probably one of the best feelings ever.
“I think that’s one of the reasons I didn’t join Man United.

“Because it was just Neil Webb and the Gaffer, constantly [for England] – and Neil Webb obviously played for Man United – so I thought: maybe I’ll not get a game. That was one of the reasons.”
Ferguson recently declared that Gascoigne is the one signing he has always regretted missing out on.
He said: “You have to say, there’s only one that always comes to my mind and that’s Gascoigne.
“He was absolutely fantastic. I think if we’d have got him, he would have had a great career, I really do.
“I’m not saying he didn’t have a good career but he would have had a better career with us.
“We had Geordies in our squad like Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce plus Bobby Charlton.

“Sir Bobby would have been a fantastic mentor to him because he’s such a fantastic man and even Gary Pallister, although he was from Middlesbrough and I know they don’t count that as a Geordie, but someone who understands the culture like Gary would.
“He promised to sign for us and I went on holiday. I got a phone call from the front desk from Martin Edwards saying he’d signed for Tottenham.
“He signed for Tottenham because they bought his mother a house for £80,000 and, dearie me, I couldn’t believe it, you know. He was a fantastic player.”

Brendan Rodgers emerges as Man Utd’s No1 candidate to replace Solskjaer as ex-Liverpool boss tops four-man shortlist

BRENDAN RODGERS has been put forward as the No1 candidate to take over at Manchester United.A leading agent has been sounding out potential successors to under-fire boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As SunSport revealed last month, the Red Devils board have a four-man shortlist to replace Solskjaer if they decide to sack him.
They were Leicester boss Rodgers, Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane and Erik ten Hag.
Former Chelsea title winning boss Conte was interested but was not prepared to wait around once the Tottenham offer came along.
Out-of-work Zidane guided Real Madrid to three Champions League titles in two spells but indicated that he would not be interested in the Old Trafford hotseat.
There was a cool reception from Ajax coach Ten Hag who did not want to discuss any hypothetical openings with the agent.
But United have been informed he is confident they could get Rodgers out of Leicester.

The former Liverpool manager has split opinion amongst the influential voices at United who are still hoping Solskjaer can turn things around at Old Trafford.
Rodgers was manager of the year in 2014 after being pipped to the title with Liverpool by Manchester City.
He went on to win seven major trophies with Celtic before moving to Leicester in February 2019.
The 48-year-old Northern Irishman has guided them to two fifth-place finishes, just missing out on the Champions League on each occasion.

Last season he won the FA Cup by beating Chelsea in the final and they overcame Manchester City to lift the Community Shield at the start of this season.
His style of play and development of players would be a perfect fit for United.
Solskjaer’s job is hanging by a thread after losing six of his last 12 games, including humiliating back-to-back home defeats by rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

How Man Utd could line up after Jules Kounde transfer with Solskjaer perfecting new three-at-the-back formation

MANCHESTER UNITED are being heavily linked with signing Sevilla and France defender Jules Kounde. The 22-year-old looked set to agree a deal to join Chelsea in the summer but it failed to get over the line
How Man Utd could line up with Kounde a part of their back three
And now Man Utd are leading the way in their pursuit of Kounde, who has been capped five times by Didier Deschamps’ national team.
The ex-Bordeaux central defender could well be the final piece in the jigsaw for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to effectively carry out his back three formation.
The Red Devils debuted their new 3-5-2 formation in a 3-0 victory over Tottenham last month.
Solskjaer then went on to stick with that shape for the draw with Atalanta and defeat to Manchester City.
United looked utterly overwhelmed in their loss to the Premier League champions, with Eric Bailly particularly struggling in the back three.
But if Kounde arrives at Old Trafford, he could form a solid trio alongside Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane.

An alternate way Man Utd could line up with Kounde
That would ultimately leave the likes of Bailly and Victor Lindelof out in the cold.
A defensive line of Kounde-Maguire-Varane would allow Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka – who have looked all at sea in recent weeks – to push on more freely.
Alternatively, there are reports that Jadon Sancho could be used by Solskjaer as a wingback as Man Utd look to shoehorn the England international into the team.
Solskjaer still has to decide whether he can fit Paul Pogba in as one of his two central midfielders.
But for the time being it appears he is keen to solidify the partnership between Fred and Scott McTominay.
Then in the attacking areas he could opt to go with a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-4-2-1.
Edinson Cavani’s contract is up at the end of the season so, given he is also 34, he is not a long-term solution for Solskjaer.
As a result, the Norwegian boss may choose to go with Bruno Fernandes behind a strike duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood.
Or instead there is the option of Fernandes and Greenwood providing the width for lone striker Ronaldo.
Man Utd currently sit sixth in the Premier League table having won just five of their 11 games so far this season.
