      Continue to believe in a man (no disrespect) who is an expert at building smaller clubs? The pressure at United is a different level.
      Ralf Rangnick is very good, but he’s very good upstairs.
      CULTURE
      ‘Best in class’ and the famous United work ethic has long gone.
      We used to laugh at teams across Europe, and even Chelsea, at the way they’d churn out managers. We’re there now.
      United feels like Liverpool before Jurgen Klopp’s arrival – clinging to the old boot room but not knowing which direction to point towards. The club looks and is acting confused.
      NO FOOTBALL PEOPLE
      It’s getting better with Darren Fletcher’s introduction but this is his first go in such a position.
      Would it really matter anyway if, say, someone like Edwin van der Sar came in? He would have the same issues as any other Glazer employee.

      ACADEMY
      Players are being produced but they’re below the level that we’re seeing at City.
      The lowering of standards has filtered through to the once great academy, and we’re now seeing the very best youngsters choose the blue half of Manchester over red.
      SOLUTION?
      What’s United’s realistic aim? Top four consistently is the owners’ target, but for fans it’s Premier League titles (to start).
      Several of the squad will move on in the summer and the squad will need further surgery.
      Instead of reactionary purchases such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Van de Beek (because he was cheaper than Jack Grealish), United must go back to basics.
      First improve the academy and win the local battle with City. Spend money on the facilities and make Carrington the best training base in Europe.
      Then there’s Old Trafford. Give it the lick of paint it’s been so desperate for.
      Place football people alongside the ‘money men’ in more prominent positions and revise how contracts are issued, and the faulty recruitment process is conducted.
      This all requires money and time and is just the tip of the iceberg.
      Unfortunately, until these wheels are in motion, United will always play second fiddle and be left to reflect on ‘history’, while the best teams in Europe disappear further into the distance. More

      Donny van de Beek ‘considering QUITTING Man Utd this month after flop £40m transfer despite assurances by Rangnick’

      DONNY VAN DE BEEK is considering QUITTING Manchester United this month, according to reports. That is despite assurances over playing time by new manager Ralf Rangnick.

      According to ESPN, the midfielder is weighing up his options as he looks for a route out of Old Trafford.
      Van de Beek, 24, has not started a single Premier League game this season – and only begun four last term following his £40million transfer from Ajax.
      Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal has made it clear he will only pick players regularly playing for their clubs for the World Cup.
      And Van de Beek – already axed from the national team – knows he needs to be playing to earn a spot on the plane to Qatar.
      A loan move until the end of the season is a possibility – but only if his full £120,000-per-week wages are covered and a loan fee is offered.
      And the report adds any offers – permanent or loan – will ultimately be signed off by Rangnick who gets the final say.
      The interim head coach has reportedly told Van de Beek he will get his chances in the first team and will play his part in the second half of the season.
      As SunSport revealed, Rangnick is currently battling a dressing-room rift which threatens to completely derail the club’s season.
      A number of stars feel certain senior team-mates have too much sway with interim boss Rangnick on big decisions.

      But the England centre back, 28, has been forced to slash the price of the property because he couldn’t find any takers.
      That comes as Maguire and his wife-to-be Fern Hawkins have been moved into another Cheshire house nearby worth £4million.
      According to the Mirror, the loved-up pair moved into their new abode before Christmas.
      However, despite settling in to their dream home, the old one is still on the market.
      Maguire had been reluctant to reduce the price despite being on since March and buyers unaware who owns the luxury house.
      It’s found in an affluent part of Greater Manchester, near where team mates Jesse Lingard and David De Gea also reside.

      However, despite settling in to their dream home, the old one is still on the market.
      Maguire had been reluctant to reduce the price despite being on since March and buyers unaware who owns the luxury house.
      It’s found in an affluent part of Greater Manchester, near where team mates Jesse Lingard and David De Gea also reside.

      And that feeling is likely to be extended with the latest cash pay-out to shareholders due on Friday.
      United announced in November that the “semi-annual cash dividend of $0.09 per share” – 7p per share in sterling – would be paid on January 7.
      The vast majority of that total £11m will go to the six members of the Glazer family who own most of the shares in the club.
      It follows a series of dividend payments to the Glazers, including around £23m over the 2019-20 season, while the club’s March accounts revealed debts stood at £455m.
      Old Trafford co-chairman Joel Glazer has defended the payments as a “modest proportion” of the club’s revenues.

      Rangnick has Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot competing for the right-back slot with Kieran Trippier also linked to the club.

      Now according to the Daily Mail, Mengi is on the brink of completing a temporary switch to St Andrew’s.
      Lee Bowyer saw loanee centre-back Dion Sanderson recalled by Wolves.
      The Blues boss, whose side sit 18th in the Championship, is therefore keen to bring in a replacement immediately.
      And Mengi is available, with his parent club keen for him to get more minutes under his belt.

      Mengi joined United’s academy aged seven and progressed through the ranks to sign a pro contract in September 2019.
      He made his senior debut in August 2020 as a late substitute against LASK in the Europa League.
      And six months later, the Manchester-born ace signed for Rooney’s Deby until the end of the 2020-21 season.
      He made nine appearances before needing to head back to United for treatment and recovery in April.
      At the time, Rooney said: “He has been fantastic for us and we’ve seen him grow with each game.”
