Xavi draws up five-man Barcelona transfer wishlist including Man Utd star Cavani and Arsenal striker Lacazette

NEW Barcelona boss Xavi has drawn up a five-man shortlist as he prepares to bolster his squad over the next 12 months. The legendary Spanish midfielder was confirmed as Ronald Koeman’s replacement in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Lacazette’s Arsenal contract comes to an end in the summerCredit: Getty
And, with Barcelona currently languishing down in ninth place in LaLiga after just four wins from their opening 11 games, the 41-year-old has a huge job on his hands to turn the Catalan giants’ fortunes around.
According to Sport, Xavi has identified five players he is interested in bringing in to enhance the 4-3-3 formation he will vehemently stick to.
With Sergio Aguero out for three months, a proven No9 will be right at the top of Barca’s wishlist in the January window.
Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani and Arsenal man Alexandre Lacazette are both turning the head of Xavi as he looks for a player to lead the line.
Cavani and Lacazette’s current deals come to an end in the summer, meaning they can sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere as early as January.
The Uruguayan has been forced to play second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford so far this season, while Lacazette has started just two of the Gunners’ 10 Premier League games in the 2021-22 campaign.

If neither of those come off, Barca may look to acquire RB Salzburg teenager Karim Adeyemi.
The German sensation has already netted 14 times in 18 games for the Austrian side this season, following in the footsteps of ex-Salzburg man Erling Haaland.
However, unlike Cavani and Lacazette, Adeyemi’s contract does not expire until 2024.
    I SPY STERLING
Another area Xavi will be looking to improve is on the flanks as he seeks to provide a new No9 with some added creativity.
And that could come in the form of Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling.
The 26-year-old has fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola over the summer and been forced to play a bit-part role for the Prem champions.
Meanwhile, if Sterling is unwilling to consider Barcelona then Xavi may opt instead to try and sign Bayern Munich man Kingsley Coman.
The Frenchman, who scored the winner for the German side in the 2020 Champions League final, has only appeared once in Bayern’s starting XI in the Bundesliga so far this season.

Man Utd star Edinson Cavani phoned Boca Juniors chief to beg for transfer over lack of game time, says Riquelme

EDINSON CAVANI phoned Boca Juniors to beg for a transfer in January, Juan Roman Riquelme revealed. The Manchester United striker was desperate to leave because of a lack of game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Reports strongly linked him with a move to the Argentine giants earlier this year, six months after joining United on a free transfer.
And he even personally contacted Boca Juniors vice-president Riquelme to try and force it through, such was his unhappiness at Old Trafford.
The Argentino hero told TNT Sports via AS: “In January, Cavani called me to tell me that he wanted to come because he was playing little there.
“I’ve been talking to him for a long time and he called me in January to come over because he wasn’t playing there.
“I remember we talked one day and the next day he came in and scored two goals in the last minutes. He made a great comeback.
“From then on he began to score goals in all the games.”

Cavani’s dad Luis confirmed the veteran forward was ‘unhappy’ in the north-west.
However, Uruguay national team boss Oscar Tabarez wanted his striker to stay with United for another season and test himself against the best defences ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
El Matador’s late-season form, scoring ten goals in his last 11 matches of the campaign, saw him rewarded with a new 12-month contract extension.
This term, he got his first goal for club or country with a quality finish over Hugo Lloris in the 3-0 win at Tottenham last week.
That was just his second start in 2021-22 because Solskjaer has picked Cristiano Ronaldo as his central striker in the 4-2-3-1 formation.
Cavani turns 35 in February and is expected to be playing elsewhere come next season as United eye a long-term No9.
Brazilian side Palmeiras reportedly have a ‘strategy’ to sign Cavani when his deal with the Red Devils expires.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid were also linked with a shock swoop.
    CAV A LOT MORE
But for the time being, Solskjaer is confident the ex-PSG striker has plenty more to offer – especially alongside fellow veteran Ronaldo.
After the victory at Spurs, the Norwegian said: “We’ve got experience together with Cristiano and Edinson.
“I’ve been here more or less three years now as a manager and Tuesday’s training performance from Edinson Cavani is probably the best performance anybody has put in here.
“The old men led from the front. They played well together and have loads of respect for each other.
“We have loads of talented players to learn from those two and they have to learn as quick as they can.
“The work rate they put in and the quality was second to none. They play for the club, no matter what.”

The Englishman has netted 15 goals in 14 games, a run which includes three hat-tricks.
The latest of those came on Wednesday night when he netted three times for Man City in their 5-3 UEFA Youth League defeat to Club Brugge.
His supreme talent has seen him dubbed the ‘Salford Silva’ for his likeness to Man City legend David Silva.
But it remains to be seen whether or not McAtee will be able to ply his trade in Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Spanish coach has declared his admiration for the youngster, however The Mail are now reporting that both Man Utd and Barcelona are keen to snap him up.
The Red Devils have a history with McAtee as he was a part of their set-up as a young boy.

But he left Old Trafford and was taken in by the Sky Blues where he has blossomed into a superb talent.
Yet his contract with Man City continues to tick down and he now has just 18 months left on his current deal.
Along with United and Barca, Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool are all also interested in the Salford-born attacker.

Man Utd star Paul Pogba ‘chooses Juventus transfer over Real Madrid and PSG but Italians must first sell Aaron Ramsey’

PAUL POGBA reportedly favours a move back to Juventus in 2022 with Manchester United resigned to losing the midfielder on a free transfer.Though it has been claimed that the Old Lady will have to offload at least two midfielders in order to snap him up – including Arsenal icon Aaron Ramsey.

Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey may have to be sold in January in order for the Italians to sign PogbaCredit: Getty
World Cup winner Pogba is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and is free to talk to foreign clubs in the New Year.
He had hinted at staying at United last month after declaring that he loves playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
But SunSport understands that talks to extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams have been shelved following the 5-0 defeat against Liverpool.
The 28-year-old, who was sent off against the Reds, has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain as well as the Bianconeri.
But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pogba’s priority is to return to Turin to link up with Massimiliano Allegri’s side.
He is said to have told agent Mino Raiola that Juventus is the club he wants to play for, despite tempting proposals from Los Blancos and Les Parisiens.

But the Italian news outlet states that in order to give Pogba a three-year deal, Juve must first offload peripheral figures in their side.
They state that the Serie A giants will look to sell Ramsey, who is believed to be raking in £400,000-a-week at the Allianz Stadium, in the upcoming transfer window.
And the club will also try and offload another midfielder not in the plans of Allegri.
That player could be USA international Weston McKennie, who has been linked with a £25million switch to Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham in January.
Following Pogba’s straight red card against Liverpool, United legend Paul Scholes declared that the Frenchman should never play for the Red Devils again.
Speaking after the humiliating defeat, he remarked: “Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at half time to try to help the team and maybe get a little respectability about it, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away.
“Then later on gets sent off with a ridiculous tackle, now you’re 5-0 down with ten men. You’d have to think, if Ole’s still a manager there, will we see Pogba again in a United shirt?
“He’s caused mayhem over the last couple of years. Everyone knows what a talent he is, everybody trusts him, every manager trusts him, tried to give him his head and let him be the player he’s been.
Man Utd’s biggest transfers ever, both in and out, including Ronaldo
“But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club to ransom, and then he comes on and does something like that.
“It’s not Ole’s fault, don’t get me wrong, but that’s part of it which almost summed the United performance up today.
“Look, he probably will play [again] won’t he? But I don’t think they will be missing anything if he doesn’t.
“He’s had numerous chances, he keeps saying he lacks consistency, but that is just [a lack of] discipline and disrespect for your manager and your teammates, what he’s done today.”

The hulking defender was bumped up to Madrid’s U-19 team at the start of the month and has already made six appearances.
And performances for Spain’s youth sides have seen him billed as the future of the country’s defensive structure.
Now, according to Bernabeudigital, United have been sending scouts to Madrid to see what all the fuss is about.
The Red Devils will fancy their chances persuading Marvel to leave Madrid for Manchester as they have already prised two youngsters away from the Spanish giants.
Last year, United pounced for starlet Alvaro Fernandez Carreras when he failed to reach an agreement with Madrid to sign a new contract.
The left-back,18, who was part of the Juvenil C side in Madrid went on to pen a four-year deal with United.

They also pipped Madrid to the signing of another young Spaniard Alejandro Garnacho last year, who was just 16 at the time.
The forward penned a five-year contract at Old Trafford after opting to leave Atletico Madrid and snubbing Los Blancos.
United’s pursuit of Marvel could be given another boost if the club sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and hire former Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with replacing Solskjaer after United’s drubbing at Liverpool.
While Zidane was still at the Bernabeu, Marvel was one of the few youngsters who trained with the senior squad alongside the 49-year-old’s son Theo.

Man Utd transfer boost with Bayern Munich ‘determined’ to sell Kingsley Coman at end of season and not lose him on free

MANCHESTER UNITED have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman. The 25-year-old has two years left on his contract but is yet to agree terms over a new deal.
United could get their hands on Coman soon as reports claim Bayern have decided to cash in on the French aceCredit: Rex
And the German giants are keen to cash in on the winger this summer rather than lose him on a free, the Daily Mail reported.
A move away from the Allianz Arena would suit both parties as Coman has previously expressed his desire to seek new pastures elsewhere.
In the summer, Coman and his family were reportedly trying to force a move to England with United being his club of choice.
Bayern’s refusal to meet the 25-year-old’s wage demands is said to be one of the main reasons that he wants to leave the club.
However, United allegedly have no issues with providing the French star the pay packet he desires.
Coman has won league titles with Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern, and the Red Devils will hope he can help them do the same.

SunSport exclusively revealed a leading agent has been instructed to contact some of the biggest names in the game, with Antonio Conte, Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Erik Ten Hag all shortlisted.
Italian Conte is the bookies favourite and would likely want to make a number of transfers to kickstart his reign.
That would mean moving some players on in January to prepare for a squad rebuild.
    Paul Pogba
Pogba is out of contract at the end of the season and is persistently linked with a move away from the club.
The 28-year-old furiously snubbed Solskjaer after being left out of Manchester United’s line-up for their 5-0 drubbing by Liverpool.
And SunSport exclusively revealed the Frenchman has put all contract talks on hold.

    Donny van de Beek
Dutchman Van de Beek has played just SIX minutes of Premier League action so far this season.
The 24-year-old has recently changed agents in a reported attempt to seal a move away from the club in January.
Serie A giants Juventus are the bookies favourite to sign Van de Beek, with Newcastle and Everton also linked.
    Jesse Lingard
Lingard enjoyed a highly successful loan spell at West Ham in the second half of last season.
It led to belief among some fans that he could be back in the first team mix at Old Trafford this season.
But the 28-year-old has found minutes hard to come by and is linked with a New Year switch to mega-rich Newcastle.
Lingard was also an unused sub in the defeat to LiverpoolCredit: Getty
    Anthony Martial
Frenchman Martial has come under fire for his performances this season.
The 25-year-old has scored just once is seven outings and has been slammed as ‘lightweight’ by pundits.
Reports suggest United will accept bids of £40m for him in January after six-and-a-half years at the club

    Dean Henderson
Finally back-up goalkeeper Henderson could be deemed surplus to requirements by Old Trafford chiefs.
The 24-year-old was due to be given the goalkeeper’s shirt this season ahead of David De Gea.
But Henderson has been suffering from long Covid and unable to even make the bench on some occasions this season.
The player himself is keen on a loan move in an attempt to revive his career.
