MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly close to officially pinning David De Gea down to a contract extension. The 31-year-old goalkeeper has been a standout performer for the Red Devils in what has been a dismal season on and off the pitch.

The new contract will reportedly run until 2025.

He was omitted from Spain’s squad for the friendlies against Albania and Iceland in June, with Unai Simon, Robert Sanchez and David Raya called up instead.

The star confirmed the news today with a brilliant 332-word statement on United’s website – despite him playing just twice for the club.
Grant said: “After 511 appearances, I’ve decided it’s the right time to move into the next stage of my career.
“There have been so many fun moments mixed in with the odd challenge, but I’m grateful for each and every one.
