De Jong, 25, has been at the centre of the biggest transfer saga of the summer.
Manchester United have been chasing him all the way through the transfer window before Chelsea looked on course to hijack a possible deal by reportedly agreeing a deal.
But for most of the summer, De Jong has wanted to stay at Barca.
However, SPORT in Spain now state the midfielder has admitted to team-mates in the locker room he could be on his way to Old Trafford.

De Jong was desperate to play Champions League football this season but could be willing to forgo that demand.
The ex-Ajax star is still owed millions in unpaid wages which he wants settled before his future is resolved.
But the report adds he is now growing increasingly furious with the way the club are treating him and putting pressure on him to leave.
De Jong was given an ultimatum earlier in the summer that he had to take a wage cut or agree to be sold.

And now his patience at the club appears to have finally worn out.
A fee of around £72million has already been agreed between United and Barca, who are keen to sell one of their valuable assets to raise much-needed funds.
However, personal terms would still need to be sorted.
The transfer would be a major boost to Red Devils chief Erik ten Hag, who has once again stated his desire for more signings before deadline day.
And Thomas Tuchel would need to find an alternative central midfielder if he misses out on the 44-cap international – despite looking like a deal was on the verge of being completed.
As it stands, De Jong is included in the 23-man matchday Barcelona squad to face Rayo Vallecano tonight.
New arrivals Robert Lewandowski, Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha are also involved despite fears over LaLiga registration. More

But, De Jong has been reluctant to make the move to Old Trafford because he wants Champions League football.
Despite the setback, United officials are still confident that they can tempt him to the club.
Reports claim that new boss Erik ten Hag is prepared to take control of the situation in a bid to complete the deal before Man Utd’s Premier League clash with Liverpool on August 22.
He is even prepared to organise a face-to-face meeting with the midfielder in an attempt to convince him to make the switch.

De Jong has already admitted that he wants to stay at the Nou Camp this season.
Barcelona currently owe him £17m in unpaid wages so club chiefs are attempting to force him out in a bid to settle any financial differences.
While De Jong has been stalling on a move to Man Utd, Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing him.
The Blues reportedly came close to striking a £67.6m deal with Barcelona earlier this week, however, they have since cooled their interest.

Thomas Tuchel has his sights set on signing a new striker before the transfer window closes next month.
Man Utd legend Gary Neville is still optimistic that his former club can push the deal across the line, but he has also suggested that it would be ’embarrassing’ if they don’t.
When speaking to Football Daily, he said: “If they (United) don’t get him, it’s embarrassing but if he goes to Chelsea, it’s horrific.
“If he doesn’t want to come the deal would have been switched off a few weeks ago.
“Because of the relationship the player has with the manager, there must be some communication between them that’s saying, ‘wait for me I’m coming’.” More

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag reveals that Cristiano Ronaldo has NOT told him he wants to leave club despite transfer rumour

ERIK TEN HAG has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is still very much part of his plans and has NOT asked him to leave Manchester United.Ronaldo sent shockwaves throughout the football world last month when reports claimed that he wanted out, despite only returning to Old Trafford last summer.
Ten Hag has refuted reports claiming Ronaldo wants to leave United and insists the attacker has an important role to play for the clubCredit: Reuters
The 37-year-old is desperate to play in the Champions League, and the Red Devils will not feature in the competition this season.
Ronaldo’s haul of 18 goals in 30 Premier League games wasn’t enough to prevent United from finishing sixth in the competition last term.
Matters between the club and player were further strained when Ronaldo left before United’s pre-season clash with Rayo Vallecano ended.
And he cut a forlorn figure as he started on the bench in the Red Devils’ loss against Brighton.

But Ten Hag insists all is fine between Ronaldo and United, contrary to media speculation.
He responded when asked if it would be wise to start the Portuguese ace who wants supposedly wants to leave in Saturday’s match against Brentford: “That is your assumption. That is not what he is telling me.
“So I deal with the players we have and we plan with him for this season and we are happy with him and we have to fit him into the team.
“So he has to come at the right fitness levels so that he can do the job that we expect him to do.

“In every press conference, we already confirmed that he is in our plans. We plan with him so we also plan around him.”
Ten Hag may have no choice but to turn to Ronaldo following United’s dismal 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
It’s likely Ten Hag will re-structure the team with Ronaldo leading the line, possibly accompanied by Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga on the flanks. More

Juventus line up Chelsea star Jorginho to replace Adrien Rabiot if French ace completes controversial Man Utd transfer

JUVENTUS will reportedly seek to sign Chelsea ace Jorginho if Adrien Rabiot joins Manchester United.United have set their sights on Rabiot as they look to bolster their midfield department this season following the loss of Paul Pogba in July.

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong was United’s first choice but he’s reportedly on the brink of sealing a switch to Chelsea for a sum of £67.6million.
De Jong’s reluctance to move to United, who had a deal in place with the Dutch ace’s agent, has led them to ramp up their interest in Rabiot.
The proceedings have progressed well thus far with the Red Devils agreeing a fee with Juve of up to £20m for Rabiot.
Although negotiations have hit a stumbling block due to Rabiot’s hefty wage demands.

Which is why the Red Devils sent club chief John Murtough to Turin in order to try and iron out any disparities between the parties.
But Murtough’s got his work cut out convincing Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique to accept less than the £8.5m she and her son are demanding.
However, Juve are already planning for life without Rabiot if Murtough’s successful.
The Serie A giants reckon Blues maestro Jorginho call fill the void left by Rabiot in the middle of the park, according to PA.

The Bianconeri feel optimistic that they can convince Chelsea to sell the Italy international.
Their cause will be helped if the Blues get the De Jong deal over the line.
Plus, Jorginho may be open to a move back home as he’s only got a year left on his Blues contract and is yet to pen a new deal.
And he fuelled speculation that his exit could be imminent last month when he gave an ambiguous response to a question regarding his Chelsea future. More

Erik ten Hag’s stuck with Man Utd flops who lost to Brighton, so how does he get Ronaldo & Co firing against Brentford?

ERIK TEN HAG’S first match in charge of Manchester United did not go according to plan. The Dutchman left Ajax as soon as last season ended so he could get working on the Red Devils squad as quickly as possible.

But if the 2-1 defeat to Brighton was anything to go by, his grand plans have not yet become a reality.
United were just as open and easy to play through as they were under Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
There was next to no improvement from last season when the club slumped to their worst ever Premier League points total.
Now, less than two months into his time at the club, Ten Hag faces his first major challenge to galvanise the players as they prepare to take on Brentford.

But what can he do different?
Well, he does not have any new players to choose from after another farcical week in the transfer market.
A shock bid for Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic was rejected last Sunday, before United then pulled out of negotiations following a backlash from disillusioned fans.
They have also been going after bad boy Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot – another questionable move given his inconsistent form for club and country.

Yet despite Juventus accepting a £15million fee rising to £20m, United have still been unable to agree personal terms with the Frenchman.
As a result, Ten Hag has been left with the exact same set of players that lost to Brighton six days ago.
But that does not mean he will line up with the same team – far from it.
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to return after being benched last weekend.
The Portuguese superstar played just 45 minutes in pre-season as speculation over a possible exit from the club rumbled on.
And while his future remains up in the air, his substitute appearance against Brighton and a week of “hard work” on the training ground is set to see him replace Christian Eriksen at the head of United’s attack.
At the other end of the pitch, club legend Rio Ferdinand has called for Lisandro Martinez to be employed in central midfield, with Raphael Varane coming back in to partner captain Harry Maguire.
He then wants Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes either side of Martinez in a midfield three – a move which would see both Scott McTominay and Fred dropped.
Another way Man Utd could line-up against Brentford this weekend

But that does seem an unlikely formation, particularly when you consider Martinez has not played a competitive game in midfield since January 2020.
Alternatively, Ten Hag could still divert from the McFred midfield pairing by playing Eriksen and Donny van de Beek either side of the Brazilian.
Other changes could see new boy Tyrell Malacia come in for Luke Shaw at left-back.
And then up front, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho will be hoping they can keep their places on the flanks.
But both are in danger of being dropped after poor displays against Brighton.
Rashford is the more likely to miss out as Fernandes could be preferred to him on the left – depending how the midfield shapes up.
Regardless of the starting XI, United know they face a tough task travelling to the Brentford Community Stadium.
Thomas Frank’s men showed tremendous grit and determination to battle back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Leicester at the King Power Stadium last weekend.

Along with champions Manchester City, United were the only other top six side to do the double over Brentford last season.
The Bees produced some stellar performances against the tougher opposition – beating Arsenal and Chelsea on their way to Premier League survival.
And the pressure is on United to get off the mark after the Brighton embarrassment… or else Ten Hag could find himself feeling the heat before August’s out. More

The midfielder, 25, currently on around £60,000 a week, was expected to leave this summer but Manchester United and Arsenal were put off by Wolves’ £80million price tag.
Now the former Porto midfielder, who cost £15m in 2017, has been made captain following the departure of Conor Coady to Everton.
And Lage sees Neves as a huge part of Wolves’ future.
The Portuguese boss said: “We are working on a new deal for Ruben.

Man Utd ‘one injury away from a problem’ says Ten Hag as boss demands club spend more on transfers before window ends

United fans have looked on with envy while rivals have splashed out this summer.
The club face Brentford tonight after an opening Premier League defeat 2-1 to Brighton last weekend.
Ten Hag, whose side will wear a garish green third kit at Brentford, said: “It is much better to get the players in earlier because then you get them earlier in the process and now we are in the department of midfield and offence, you have seen, when we have one injury then we have a problem. That’s clear.”
Asked if they needed to strengthen before the transfer deadline he said: “We have to.”
United have signed full-back Tyrell Malacia, centre-back Lisandro Martinez and midfielder Christian Eriksen all while the club were already on their pre-season tour.
They have failed to get a striker, with an embarrassing attempt to sign Marko Arnautovic, 33, from Bologna this week.
They have continuously tried but failed to get number one midfield target Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona and are in tough negotiations with Adrien Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique to get him despite Juventus ready to sell.
With Martial still struggling with a hamstring problem, they are left having to pick a player against Brentford today who does not even want to be at United in Ronaldo.

Yet ten Hag insists he is working as if Ronaldo is staying for the season and that the player has not told him he wants to go.

Ten Hag was evasive about whether Ronaldo told him he wants to stay at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag said: “So I deal with the players we have and we plan with him for this season and we are happy with him and we have to fit him into the team.
“So he has to come at the right fitness levels so that he can do the job that we expect him to do.”
Ten Hag also claims that he has faith in Marcus Rashford, who missed two good chances against Brighton, and he will not be going anywhere despite apparent interest from PSG.
He said: “He knows I love him, he knows I want him to be here so I will tell him that again.
“He’s really important, you have seen from the first day I’m here, I’m really happy with him, I don’t want to lose him, he’s definitely in our plans at Manchester United.
“He showed already in the short time I’ve been here, in pre-season, what he can do.
“Last week he was twice in a position where he could score.
“He was in the right moment in the right place and I know and I trust he will finish in the future.”

United already have Tom Heaton on their books but Ten Hag wants a goalkeeper who is more capable of providing David de Gea with a challenge.
De Gea remains the No1 at Old Trafford, but Saints stopper McCarthy, 32, is on the shortlist to be his understudy.
The one-cap England international signed a new three-year-deal at St. Mary’s last term but has been bumped to No2 on the south coast by 20-year-old new signing Gavin Bazunu – despite Fraser Forster leaving the club.
Bazunu joined from Manchester City this summer and started ahead of McCarthy on the opening day at Tottenham, where Saints lost 4-1.

No official approach has been made to Southampton at this stage and sources are unsure whether United will make a move given what is described as a scatter-gun approach to business this summer.

Adrien Rabiot and Frenkie de Jong are the players being heavily tracked to bolster the midfield.
