United fans booed the outclassed Red Devils at the Community Stadium and many tore into legend Ronaldo on social media for what they considered his lack of respect.
McClaren was seen urging the Portugal hero to walk over to the furious travelling hordes.

Another posted: “Part of the problem. Cancel his contract. Sign Ivan Toney. Young, hungry, hardworking and robust. Shakes defenders up.”
But a few supporters insisted Ronaldo was right to be furious after his side’s dire defending left the Bees 4-0 up at the break.
One argued: “He has all right to be angry. This is not his fault.
“His defence conceded those 4 abysmal goals. Why is the spotlight always on him?”

Sir Alex Ferguson QUIT as Man Utd manager days before Treble season in huge row with board before stunning U-turn

SIR ALEX FERGUSON sensationally QUIT as Manchester United manager just days before the Treble-winning season. In a stunning twist of events following the 1997/98 season, Ferguson resigned from his position at Old Trafford before taking it back up.

It came after the United board at the time, comprising of then-chairman Martin Edwards and Sir Roland Smith, chairman of the club’s PLC board, expressed their doubts over Ferguson’s focus.
The inside story, revealed by The Times, was the season after United lost out on the league title by a single point to Arsenal, after winning four of the previous five seasons.
Ahead of the new season Edwards and Smith told Ferguson: “We are worried about your focus.”
Their fears of this came from talk at the time of Ferguson revelling in his “celebrity status” and his passion for horse racing.

Ferguson, perplexed with the line of questioning, directly questioned whether they were trying to force him out of the club – to which he was assured it was nothing of the sort.
Transfers were also a hotly debated topic within the club’s hierarchy, with Ferguson pushing for the signing of Dwight Yorke despite doubts from assistant Brian Kidd and other members of the United board.
Following the meeting, Edwards wrote a letter for Ferguson upon his return to pre-season training outlining all the concerns the board had.
Edwards then revealed that within hours Ferguson stormed into the office raging and declaring he was going to resign: “The language Alex used was a little bit more fruity, but that was the basic gist of it.

“Well, if that’s the way you feel, Alex, we’ll have to accept it,” Edwards replied, confident of calling the former Aberdeen manager’s bluff.
Fortunately for United, the bluff worked and Ferguson withdrew his application later in the day.
Gordon Strachan described Ferguson as being “driven by anger,” and following the butting of heads at the start of the season Ferguson was full of it.
And it paid dividends as United won an unprecedented Treble that year – a feat yet to be replicated in English football.
United also went on to win the next three Premier League titles, another feat which is yet to be replicated by a club or manager other than Ferguson’s United.

Despite rumours the pair are heading for a divorce, his agent and wife Wanda Nara is still involved in discussions over his next club.
Icardi is also wanted by Galatasaray, with Nara meeting representatives of the Turkish club three times.
With Anthony Martial injured and Cristiano Ronaldo seemingly still having one eye on the exit door, Ten Hag is very much in the market for a striker.
He has so far been frustrated in his efforts to land Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

Ten Hag has signed only Christian Eriksen, full-back Tyrell Malacia and centre-back Lisandro Martinez.
Icardi has been bombed out of the first team squad and told to train on his own by new PSG boss Christophe Galtier.
With Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar in the French champions’ front line, Icardi is not likely to get much, if any, playing time in Paris.
Galtier said: “I told him that I want to reduce the size of the squad and not work with 25 outfield players.
“The club is working closely with Mauro to find the best possible solution.

The Bologna striker was wanted by Erik ten Hag, owing to the time they had spent together at FC Twente, as a short-term option to solve a problem in the forward department.
When asked about the links during a press conference on Saturday, Arnautovic said: “The market is the market.
“I’ve been in the world of football for many years and I know there could be clubs interested during the transfer window.
“But now I am focused on Bologna.”

The former West Ham striker scored 15 goals in 34 games for Bologna last season.
Consequently, the Serie A outfit were reluctant to let him go, and quoted United a significantly higher price than the £6.8million they bid for him.
United caused further dismay from fans with their reported interest in Adrien Rabiot shortly after their horror 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
The Red Devils football director John Murtough flew to Italy to help get a deal for the French midfielder over the line.

After missing out on signing Darwin Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica when the transfer window opened, new boss Erik ten Hag identified Kalajdzic as the perfect alternative.
United chiefs have been keeping tabs on the 25-year-old since holding initial talks with his representatives last month.
He has less than one year remaining on his current contract, so he could be sold for as little as £17million this summer.
And according to Sky Sports, Kalajdzic is very keen to make the move to Old Trafford.

The Austria international scored six goals for Stuttgart last season after suffering a severe shoulder injury which kept him out of action for five months.
At 6ft 7in tall he could prove to be the perfect target man for Ten Hag’s squad.

He said: “It is important that Sasa remains injury-free this season and trains and plays at the highest possible level.
