And as a result, he missed pre-season and ultimately lost his place in Ten Hag’s starting XI.
But after Anthony Martial picked up an injury against Everton, Ronaldo replaced the Frenchman and then scored the winner.
Ten Hag said: “I want to support him as good as possible. We have certain demands from players, what we expect in certain positions.
“I want to get the best out of him, he’s in better shape now and I’m happy with that.

“At the start, it was the case (lack of fitness), it’s proven once again, no one can miss a pre-season.”
Ronaldo, 37, is now expected to lead United’s front line against Cypriot Omonoia Nicosia FC at Old Trafford on Thursday.
But Martial, 26, will miss the Europa League game with a hip injury but was still pictured arriving at training.
Ten Hag said: “I’ve had several talks with him and I’m really disappointed for him.

“All the minutes he has played well, even on Sunday the assist for Antony.
“The pressing was good, he was an important factor and played well.
“But obviously, he fell out and it’s disappointing for him and disappointing for the team as well. Of course, I want every player to be available.
“Sometimes it’s disappointing when they’re not available, especially with all the games coming up.
“When they’re not available you have to deal with the situation and I focus on the players available.”
Ten Hag also confirmed Harry Maguire, 29, Donny van de Beek, 25, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 24, are sidelined through injury.
United trail Real Sociedad in their Europa League group, following defeat by the Spanish side in September.
And Ten Hag warned his players must top their group, which they are currently three points off.

He said: “We are going all out for the victory. It is Europe, it is tough. I told the players weeks ago, it was important to win the group.

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘p***ed off’ with situation at Man Utd as Rio Ferdinand reveals secret chats with striker

CRISTIANO RONALDO is “p***** off” with his situation at Manchester United, it has been revealed. Former team-mate and United legend Rio Ferdinand has spoken about the behind-the-scenes situation at Old Trafford.

And in doing so, he unveiled some of the details of chats he has had with the legendary forward, who has endured a frustrating season with his time in the team coming mostly from the bench.
Speaking on his YouTube channel FIVE, Ferdinand said: “When I’ve spoken to him during this period of not playing… Obviously there’s an undertone of p***** off.
“But the calmness with which ‘the chance will come and I score goals’, It’s plain and simple, the chance will come at some point.
“There’s no doubt in my mind he’s upset – of course he is but I think every professional who rates themselves and wants to play games week in, week out will have a divine right to be upset, that’s a given.

“But then it’s about what you do after and when you’re given the opportunity. You don’t go in and sulk. He’s the quickest one off the bench when he’s being asked to go on the pitch.”
Ronaldo came off the bench against Everton to score the match-winner and reach an astonishing 700 club career goals.
Of the games Ronaldo has started, he has scored just once – a penalty against Sheriff in the Europa League.
The 37-year-old has been playing second fiddle to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, but an injury to the latter might see Ronaldo afforded an opportunity to start in the league.

However, asides from one game in the Premier League, a 4-0 loss to Brentford, Ronaldo has seen all his Prem appearances come from the bench this season.
And with Ronaldo likely to play against Omonia Nicosia on Thursday, his spot in the Prem team will likely once again not be in the starting XI.
Ferdinand added: “When he goes out there you can see there’s a hunger and desire to score goals. This is all after scoring 699 goals at club level.
“This guy has got an obsession with beating the haters, ramming it down their throats. That 700 was to people like Jamie Carragher and people like that who are desperate to get him out of the door.”

Ronaldo was extensively linked with a transfer away from United over the summer, and now with the reports of unrest for Kylian Mbappe, fans have been praying for a long-awaited Lionel Messi and Ronaldo link-up.

UK’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe devastates Man Utd fans as he admits he is NOT likely to prise club from Glazers

BRITAIN’S richest man left thousands of Manchester United fans gutted — as he admitted he does NOT think he will be able to buy the Glazers out of Old Trafford.Sir Jim Ratcliffe runs multi-billion-pound chemicals giant Ineos, which owns Nice and Lausanne and a third of Formula One team Mercedes, as well as other sporting interests.

Ratcliffe, 69, a United fan, has been linked with an attempt to take control of the club after being a late entrant in the race for Chelsea — which was won by American Todd Boehly.
But Red Devils supporters hoping to hear that Ratcliffe believes he could launch a takeover were left disappointed during an interview at a Financial Times event in London last night.
Asked directly if he was planning a bid, billionaire Sir Jim first sighed, then laughed and eventually said: “I’m a lifelong Manchester United fan.
“I was there in 1999 for the most remarkable match of all time in Barcelona. So, you know, the club is deeply etched in my mind.

“But Manchester United is owned by the Glazer family.
“I have met Joel and Avram, who are the nicest people, proper gentlemen, and they don’t want to sell.
“The club is owned by the six children of the father, Malcolm, and they don’t want to sell it.
“If it had been for sale in the summer, yes, we would probably have had a go, following on from the Chelsea thing.

“But we can’t sit around hoping that one day United will become available.”
Ratcliffe said he believed owners should be “custodians” of clubs, which he believes are “community assets” and not financial vehicles.
And despite his kind words about the Glazer family, he suggested they have made a fearful mess of running the club — and been a root cause of the Red Devils’ decline and fall.
He added: “I think the answer about performance with United is a simple one, really.
“The biggest correlation to success in football is money, without question.

“It’s not the only correlation — because you’ve got outliers like Brighton — but it’s the biggest correlation by far.
“If you’ve got the highest revenues, you can sign the best players, you play the best football.
“Manchester United was one of the top three clubs. We had the two in Spain, Madrid and Barcelona, and United, all with revenues of around £800million.
“Now a few more have joined that club, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, while Liverpool are a little bit closer.
“But Manchester United are not playing in the same league as those teams at the moment — and they haven’t done for a few years, not really since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down.
“So they are not firing on all cylinders. That would be my point on performance.”

Man Utd transfer blow as Juventus plot swoop for long-term target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

MANCHESTER UNITED have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports. The 28-year-old Serbian, whose contract runs until 2024, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for a number of years.

But a transfer away from Lazio has never materialised and he has racked up 306 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring 62 goals.
In the summer, he was once again thought to be the subject of interest from Man Utd.
However, now Erik ten Hag’s men have serious competition when it comes to his signature.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus will make an offer for the player in the January window.

It comes after a poor start to the season in which Max Allegri’s side sit eighth in the Italian top flight, 10 points behind early pacesetters Napoli.
They have also lost three of their four Champions League group stage games and are set to drop down to the Europa League.
Their 2-0 defeat to AC Milan in Serie A at the weekend once again showcased a weakness in the midfield.
And with Angel di Maria and Adrien Rabiot’s contracts expiring in the summer, reinforcements may be required if they are to start turning things around.

It remains to be seen whether or not Lazio will decide to sell Milinkovic-Savic after they refused to offload him for any less than £88million just a few months ago.
His agent, former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman, claimed in August that the midfielder wants Champions League football.
And this is thought to be the reason he rejected approaches from Arsenal and Newcastle in the summer.
Juventus are currently in Europe’s premier competition, but face a potential group stage exit from this season’s edition.
And they are already playing catch-up when it comes to qualification for next year, with Allegri’s men already seven points adrift of the top four. More

Five clubs who could sign Mbappe as Liverpool and Real Madrid lead race after PSG star ‘demands transfer in January’

Mbappe is reportedly fed up and his relationship with the club is “completely broken” despite picking up £650,000-a-week.
The Frenchman is said to feel “betrayed” following a series of “unfeasible” promises made to him.
That means there could be an opportunity for one lucky club to capture one of the best talents in world football.
PSG are willing to let the player leave, however one condition has to be met: He can’t go to Real.

Here, SunSport takes a look at the five clubs who could sign Mbappe
    Real Madrid
The Spanish giants were heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old when his contract was about to expire in June, but Mbappe decided against moving to the Bernabeu.
Pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft now claims Mbappe is set to join Real after agreeing a deal in secret with the club.
He could join up after the World Cup despite PSG’s uneasy relationship with Real Madrid after they tapped up Mbappe for several months.
    Liverpool
A report from Spain has claimed the only chance Mbappe can leave in January is if Liverpool make a move.

Liverpool have previously been linked to Mbappe and Jurgen Klopp has made no attempt to hide his admiration for the player.
Mbappe will command a huge transfer fee however and that could dent the Reds’ hopes of completing a deal.
    Chelsea
Instead, Chelsea could pounce with Todd Boehly keen on landing a big name – having previously targeted Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mbappe has experience of the Blues having trained with the club when he was a kid.
He even played in a 6-0 friendly win over Charlton and admitted he enjoyed his experience in London.
    Manchester United
Manchester United could also try and sign Mbappe though their chances of luring the frontman to Old Trafford are slim since they cannot offer him Champions League football.
The Red Devils were said to be keeping an eye on Mbappe’s situation prior to the forward penning a new contract.
The club were reportedly happy to bid their time and wait for Mbappe to become available, and it seems to have happened sooner than anticipated.
    Manchester City
The English champions are one of the few clubs who would be able to afford Mbappe’s massive wages and transfer fee.
The chance to work with the likes of Pep Guardiola, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne would likely appeal to Mbappe, as would the fact the Citizens are one of the favourites to win the Champions League. More

David Beckham shares incredible throwback snap of unrecognisable Man Utd star as a kid long before his Old Trafford days

DAVID BECKHAM’S locks have chopped and changed over the years – but he’s always been able to spot an hair-apparent.The England legend has posted a throwback snap of a curly-haired kid whose own career has since weaved magic.
The focus says it all, as this youngster was rewarded for his commitment with a brilliant career that David Beckham envies

Even then the lad had a look of quiet belief that’s been the hallmark of his days at Manchester United and beyond.
Fans might be surprised at how willowy the star appeared to be.
But he had a hunger that seemed to burn deep in his eyes.
Like Becks, he’s now something of a fashion figure.

And he too has varied his hairstyle but never his dedication.
Some supporters will recognise that focus on his face.
He’s also one of the few players that 115-cap midfielder Beckham looked up to on the pitch.
But now back at Old Trafford, he could get a parting – after a fringe role this season.

But Becks uncovered the photo on Instagram to help salute the striker’s latest astonishing milestone.
And although the schoolboy snap might have been a mystery for some, his record shows there’s no puzzle over why he’s regarded as a GOAT.
Ex-Sporting Lisbon starlet Cristiano Ronaldo (yes, it’s him) has been mainly a sub under Erik ten Hag.
But the Portugal hero, 37, came off the bench on Sunday to hit his 700th club goal.
That helped the Red Devils sink Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park and go fifth.
And perhaps Becks’ old pic of Ron on Instagram was another hint the Inter Miami owner wants to take him into the MLS.
Beckham left Old Trafford in 2003 just as Ronaldo arrived for his first spell – but two decades later they could be united.
