Man Utd stars believe Cristiano Ronaldo will push for January transfer after losing place to Marcus Rashford

MANCHESTER UNITED stars believe Cristiano Ronaldo is still angling for a move – and has his eye on a January exit. The Portuguese superstar made it clear to Old Trafford bosses he wanted to leave before the season started.

But Ronaldo will now stay a United player until 2023 after the transfer window closed ten days ago without agent Jorge Mendes finding him a new club.
The likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all turned down the chance to sign him.
Meanwhile Ronaldo himself snubbed a switch to Saudi Arabia after being offered a whopping £2MILLION-a-week salary by an unnamed club.
SunSport exclusively revealed on Saturday how Erik ten Hag is confident of winning the Premier League this season… with Marcus Rashford leading the line instead on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Ronaldo has been restricted to just one top-flight start this campaign, and has been named on the bench for the last four Premier League matches.
The striker, 37, cut a frustrated figure as he drew a blank in the Europa League against Real Sociedad on Thursday where he was named in the starting XI.
A source said: “All the players loved it when Ronaldo came back to United last season but they are frustrated he missed pre-season.
“The manager put a lot of work into giving the squad detailed information about what he wanted them to do and how he wanted them to play.
    latest man utd news
“Ronaldo is not up to speed with that and is relying on instinct when he plays. But that doesn’t work in Ten Hag’s system.
“He often demands the ball too early in build-up play and drops deep for the ball, but that means when the ball is wide there is no-one in the middle to hit it into.
“Ten Hag and the rest of the players really rate Ronaldo.
“But it’s clear that the success they have had this season is from following tactical instruction rather than the individual brilliance they relied on last season.
“Ronaldo is likely to find himself on the bench again going forward.
“And he is going to have to get used to scoring a lot less goals because he is only being introduced towards the end of games when Ten Hag has already made changes which make United less attacking.
“He needs to realise it’s only going to work if he tunes into ten Hag’s plans.”

Newcastle ‘only turned to Loris Karius after failing in bid to land ex-Watford keeper Ben Foster on free transfer’

NEWCASTLE only turned to Loris Karius after failing to land Ben Foster on a free, according to reports. The 39-year-old keeper has been out of contract since leaving Watford in the summer.

He boasts almost two decades of experience in English football, playing for clubs such as Manchester United and Birmingham City.
And it appears a return could have been on the cards for Foster as Newcastle looked to aid their goalkeeper crisis.
Karl Darlow’s injury left the Magpies without a No2 to play back up to Nick Pope after Martin Dubravka left for Man United on loan.
Foster was reportedly in the frame to make his return to football – before he shot Newcastle down.

Sports journalist Pete O’Rourke reported: “Former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster turned down an approach from Newcastle to join on a short-term deal before they turned to ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.”
It is not confirmed at the moment why Foster turned down the approach but he has previously hinted that he is enjoying life away from football.
He also keeps himself busy moonlighting as a Youtuber.
Last month he told Talksport that his time as a free agent had been “the best summer of his life.”

He added: “I left Watford at the end of last season. Normally, when the season finishes you get a month or six weeks off and you jam pack your holidays in.
“I didn’t really think I would be signing for a new club near enough when the season starts.
“I thought I could give myself two months of holiday, have a nice time and then take it from there.
“I’ve had the best three months ever, been on holiday, just doing normal things when the kids finish school.
“We normally have to take the kids out of school to go on holiday. I’ve enjoyed being a normal person.”
With the ex-West Brom keeper out the way, Karius is set to make a dramatic return to English football.
The 29-year-old is best remembered for his fumbling performance in the 2018 Champions League Final against Real Madrid.
He has since been trying to re-build his reputation on loan at Besiktas and Union Berlin, but remains contracted to Liverpool. More

Antony has previously revealed Ronaldo is his idol.
He was given a standing ovation from Ronaldo and Co after his goal scoring debut.
The new signing took to social media to praise CR7 posting on his Instagram story a picture of him leaving the field for Ronaldo.
He captioned the post “Idolo” which translates as ‘idol’ alongside the love heart and fist bump emojis.
Antony will have to act out Ronaldo’s teachings while the legendary forward mans Erik ten Hag’s bench.
Ronaldo has started just two games this season.
His last start came on Thursday in the 1-0 Europa League loss to Real Sociedad. More

Anthony Martial slams ‘treacherous’ Solskjaer and ‘disrespectful’ Mourinho as he opens up on Man Utd struggles

MANCHESTER UNITED ace Anthony Martial has slammed former bosses Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho as treacherous and disrespectful. The Frenchman, 26, hasn’t quite lived up to expectations following his £54million move from Monaco in 2015.

Martial has played under Man Utd’s last five permanent managers, dating back to Louis van Gaal’s reign.
However, there’s no love lost for Solskjaer or serial winner Mourinho.
Martial slammed Mourinho for lacking “respect for me”, and Solskjaer for not publicly backing him after playing through an injury – something he says is “almost treachery”.
Solskjaer was originally brought in at United on a temporary basis following the end of Mourinho’s two-and-a-half-year tenure.

But after putting together a number of impressive results, including a Champions League knockout triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, the United legend was handed the permanent gig.
It was under Solskjaer that Martial “regularly played injured” – something the player says “people don’t know about”.
And it was the lack of public defence, especially in the media, which made Solskjaer a traitor in Martial’s eyes, as he was the one asking him to play.
Martial said of Solskjaer in an interview with France Football: “I regularly played injured.
    Most read in Football
“People don’t know it, I couldn’t speed up during the four months following the Covid season.
“The coach tells me he needs me, so I play. But, given my game, if I can’t accelerate, it becomes very complicated all the same.
“And I got set on fire. The coach never bothered to tell the media.
“Obviously, I ended up getting injured for good and when I came back, finished, I didn’t play anymore.
“I took it very badly, I had a feeling of injustice, you are asked to sacrifice yourself for the team and behind you are dismissed. For me, it’s almost treachery.”
And the attacker’s issues with Mourinho started over the No9 shirt.
Mourinho tried to convince Martial to give up the shirt for the incoming Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and instead wear No11, famously worn by legend Ryan Giggs.
Despite declining, Mourinho handed the shirt to the Swede anyway – rubbing Martial the wrong way.
Martial recalled events, saying: “It started with the story of the jersey number.
“During the holidays, he sends me a message to ask me if I want to change to the No11, explaining to me that it is great because it is that of the legend Ryan Giggs.
“I tell him that I have the greatest respect for Giggs, but I prefer to keep the No9.
“And when I return to the club, I see my jersey with the No11 (the No9 being recovered by Ibrahimovic), the story did not go away good. He lacked direct respect for me.”

Mourinho also made public remarks about Martial, something the United ace says the manager did to Karim Benzema at Real Madrid.
Martial has also put some blame on Mourinho for him missing out on a World Cup 2018 place with France, who went on to win the tournament.
He continued: “He talked about me in the press, little phrases, a bit like he had done with Karim Benzema at Real.
“He likes these little games, but he also knows who he is doing it with.
“He knows that I am then 20 years old, that if I say something, it is I who will pass for the young person who lacks respect. So I said nothing, it was useless.
“The following season, I was the best in the team in the first part of the season, he brought in Alexis Sanchez and then I hardly played anymore.
“It’s the season of the World Cup and more, it costs me dearly on arrival, especially since the France team won.
    “I should have been there.”
    LV-GLEE
Van Gaal was the only United boss Martial had time for, and hailed the Dutch manager’s hands-on approach.
Martial says Van Gaal was a great teacher, and would hold one-on-one sessions reviewing footage of games to explain how to improve.
Martial said: “I had a great relationship with Louis van Gaal in the first season.
“I love to learn and when a gentleman like him takes the time to make me watch videos of my matches in his office to explain things to me, that’s the best.
“Once I had doubled and he made me come to the video to set me on fire. So I tell him that I scored twice, so what’s the problem?
“He wanted to talk to me about running angles, movement zones, etc.
“I told him that I understood and that he liked my whole character. With Mourinho, it had nothing to do.”
And following a six-month loan spell with Sevilla last season, Martial has shown signs of reviving his Man Utd career under new boss Erik ten Hag.
He scored three times in pre-season, but has seen his playing time be limited by injury so far.
Martial insists he won’t play to the media to appear motivated.
He says he won’t “change to please others”.
    Read More on The Sun
Martial said: “A lot of people think you have to be a little comedian and I see players who show their rage so that the public and the media think they are motivated.
“All the media circus does not interest me. I cannot change to please others.” More

United manager Erik ten Hag was interested in a reunion with Dest, whom he managed at Ajax during the 2019-20 season.
But according to The Athletic, Red Devils football director John Murtough wanted to stick with Aaron Wan-Bissaka – despite his awkward fit in Ten Hag’s system.
Barca initially wanted around £17.5million for Dest, but ended up sending him out on loan to AC Milan with no obligation to buy.
The Serie A champions have the option to make the move permanent for £17.5m next summer.

Diogo Dalot has started all seven games under Ten Hag this term.
Wan-Bissaka, meanwhile, has played just four minutes of action under the Dutchman – coming on late in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
Dest travelled with Barcelona on their summer tour of the US, but was left out of their opening LaLiga matches.
After joining Milan he made his debut in the Champions League this week, coming on in his new side’s 1-1 draw at RB Salzburg.

AC Milan beat off late interest from Villarreal and Borussia Dortmund to sign Dest.
They made the swoop for the 21-year-old after Alessandro Florenzi suffered a serious injury.
Barca considered a swap deal with Dortmund for Thomas Meunier, although talks didn’t progress far.
They were also interested in using Dest to sign former Spurs ace Juan Foyth from Villarreal.
But a transfer to Unai Emery’s side was considered too much of a “step down” for the American. More

He has scored 12 goals in eight games across all competitions, with ten of his strikes – which includes two hat-tricks – coming in the Premier League.
So it should come as no surprise that Red Devils supporters are wishing he joined them instead after he snubbed a summer move to Old Trafford.
Haaland came close to signing for United when his Norwegian compatriot Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge, but he opted to link up with BVB from Red Bull Salzburg instead in December 2019.
But that hasn’t stopped one United fan from trying to persuade him to quit City in a video shared by @danfitton_ which has gone viral on social media.

Haaland could be seen walking down Chapel Street in Greater Manchester where the United supporter shouted out from a car.
He jokingly yelled: “You’ve come to the wrong side of Manchester.”

Refusing to give up, the fan then said: “Come to us next season United, you know it come on, see you in a bit Haaland.”

Neville slams the Glazers for splashing £230m on ‘panic’ transfers including Antony and Casemiro amid Man Utd fan fury

That sparked United chiefs into life during the final weeks of the window as they signed Casemiro for £70million, Antony for £85.5m and Martin Dubravka on loan.
They were added to the new arrivals who had already been brought in – Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.
It saw the Red Devils’ net spend exceed £200m.
It is something Neville believes was an unplanned reaction to results and protests against the Glazer ownership.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
Speaking on The Overlap, he said: “Manchester United wanted to spend about £130m-£140m, they ended up spending £230m.
“Obviously we’ve seen it before with the Glazer family – loads of trouble, protests building, invest the money to try and appease the fans and basically panic-buy.
“The Casemiro and Antony bids came in two days before the Liverpool game, which was obviously a moment where they just needed to get players in.
“It wasn’t the strategy at the start of the summer to spend the money they’ve spent.”

Since their slow start to the campaign, Ten Hag’s men have won four Premier League matches in a row – their best run since April 2021.
Victories over Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal have seen United leap up to fifth in the table.

And Antony hit the ground running with a goal against Arsenal, while fellow new arrival Eriksen produced a player of the match performance in the win over the Gunners.
However, United did suffer a blow on Thursday night when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Real Sociedad in their opening Europa League game. More

Man Utd ‘twice rejected chance to hire Graham Potter’ before Chelsea swooped for highly-rated manager from Brighton

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly rejected the chance to bring Graham Potter to Old Trafford… TWICE.The 47-year-old was announced as new Chelsea head coach yesterday after Thomas Tuchel was ruthlessly sacked by owner Todd Boehly.
Manchester United twice turned down the chance to appoint Graham PotterCredit: Getty
But things could have been very different for the ex-Brighton boss.
United were twice encouraged to move for Potter, once when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, and again while searching for a permanent replacement during Ralf Rangnick’s turbulent tenure.
That’s according to The Athletic, who say the Red Devils turned down the chance to hold talks with Potter on both occasions.
His lack of Champions League experience was ultimately the reason United chose not to try and poach him from the Seagulls.

Potter led Brighton to a ninth-place finish last season, and has left them currently in fourth after six games.
Yet that pedigree was not enough to tempt United, who instead swooped for Erik ten Hag, a man with no Premier League experience.
Chelsea on the other hand were quick to make their move for Potter after relieving Tuchel of his duties.
Blues owner Boehly wanted someone who can be in the dugout long-term, as he looks to move away from the fire and rehire tactic used in the Roman Abramovich era.
    Most read in Football
Potter has been handed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
He said: “I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club.
“I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.
“I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club.”

While Boehly said: “We are thrilled to bring Graham to Chelsea.
“He is a proven coach and an innovator in the Premier League who fits our vision for the Club.
“Not only is he extremely talented on the pitch, he has skills and capabilities that extend beyond the pitch which will make Chelsea a more successful Club.
“He has had a major impact at his previous Clubs and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea.
“We look forward to supporting him, his coaching team and the squad in realising their full potential in the coming months and years.” More
