Rooney’s comments come after he took aim at Ronaldo several times this season.
After the Portuguese ace refused to come on as a sub against Spurs, Rooney said: “The things he has done from the start of season, it is not acceptable for Manchester United.”
But Rooney’s thoughts only served to infuriate Ronaldo.

He fired back in his Piers Morgan interview: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level.
“I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”

The timing couldn’t be worse, with United ripping up Ronaldo’s contract as the watch was released.
And all eyes are now aimed at Portugal’s World Cup camp on two days before their group stage opener against Ghana.
Ronaldo, 37, left club chiefs stunned when he blasted the Red Devils in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan last week.
SunSport revealed United had decided to terminate Ronnie’s deal as a result of his bombshell talks.

And the news was confirmed in a blunt statement at 5.30pm on Tuesday, with United bidding farewell to one of their greatest players for a second time.
However, it appears Ronaldo has aimed one final swipe at Old Trafford.
Around the same time, Ronnie has released a brand new watch in collaboration with Jacob & Co.

There are no less than four versions of the watch, with the cheapest costing £23,931 and the most expensive selling for £123,927.
But the watch’s face depicts an image sure to infuriate United further.

The stunning goal saw Real secure a 1-1 draw, with the Spaniards going on to win the next leg 2-1.
And this is the picture Ronaldo chose to grace the front of his watch, revealing it around the same time United confirmed the veteran had been axed for good.
Supporters quickly took to Twitter following the release of the watch, with many convinced the timing with United’s statement was not a coincidence.
One said: “He really hates Man Utd.”
Another gasped: “Wow for someone who calls themselves a club legend at United.”

He also suggested the club did not believe him regarding his daughter’s ill health over the summer.

The news was announced at 5.30pm as United released a blunt 67-word statement for the club icon.
The Old Trafford club – who will NOT give their iconic No7 a pay-off to save themselves £11.5million – said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

Ronaldo hit back with a short statement of his own shortly after the confirmation of his exit.
He said: “Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract.
“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.
“It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge. I wish Man Utd all the best.”

Ronaldo had played a bit-part role under Ten Hag this season with just four Premier League starts and one goal in ten appearances.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar launched a scathing attack on Manchester United in his 90-minute sit-down chat with Piers.
In there, he claimed he did not have respect for manager Ten Hag, the club betrayed him and they did not believe him regarding his baby daughter’s ill health over the summer.
When snippets of the bombshell interview were released by The Sun hours after the 2-1 win at Fulham, United said they would wait for the full facts before making a decision.
It is understood they sought legal advice and clearly feel they have grounds to terminate the big-money contract seven months early.
Morgan retweeted the United tweet and simply added: “The end.”
He added another post shortly after, with the forward holding up an Arsenal home shirt with ‘Ronaldo No7’ on the back.

Morgan quipped: “Time for Phase 2.”
Fans on Twitter were convinced Ronaldo took one final swipe at United with his new watch design that appears to feature his headed goal scored AGAINST the Red Devils during his time with Real.
Bookmakers Betfair have made Ronaldo’s boyhood club Sporting Lisbon the favourites to clinch his signature on a free transfer in January.
Todd Boehly’s Chelsea are second favourites ahead of an MLS side, Bayern Munich, PSG and Napoli.
However, the 191-cap, 117-goal Portugal international hinted his next club to Piers and may have ruled out a return home to Sporting.
Ronaldo’s former team-mate Rio Ferdinand was live on BBC covering Poland’s 0-0 draw with Mexico when the Ronaldo news broke this evening.
The ex-defender said: “Cristiano obviously did that interview with the mindset that he wasn’t happy and wanted to get out of the club.
    “He made that very clear.
“I think Erik ten Hag got what he wanted in this situation as well. Both parties are happy and we can move on.
