Reports suggest that Man Utd were hoping to go back in for De Jong in January and battle Chelsea for his signature but the player is maintaining his stance from the summer of not wanting to go.
However, Barca could be forced into selling him due to their ongoing financial difficulties that even led to De Jong accepting a wage cut.
If he does stay at the Catalan giants he could feature against Man Utd in the Europa League next year. More

Old Trafford chiefs have been talking to the player’s representatives since late summer as they were keen to box off his future even before his headline-grabbing performances.

The teenager’s stunning introduction has just earned him the supporters’ Player of the Month award with more than two-thirds of the vote.

That had led to him becoming a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
However, a drop in form for his club has seen him lose his Three Lions place which has resulted in him missing out on the World Cup.

But the role ended up going to Dutchman Ten Hag following his impressive spell at Ajax, with United handing him a three-year deal.
And he has made a decent start to life at Old Trafford, with Man Utd heading into the World Cup break in fifth place in the Premier League.
Yet that has not stopped Pochettino from speculating about eventually taking over in the future, insisting he did not in the summer due to the timing of the vacancy.
Speaking about the Man Utd job in an interview with Radio Marca, he said: “Football is timing.

“It’s the moments for it to coincide and for that marriage to happen.
“Sometimes it’s just a matter of timing. I don’t believe that trains pass just once.”
Pochettino first arrived in the Premier League with Southampton in January 2013.
In his first full season at St Mary’s, he guided the south coast side to an eighth place finish.

And his impressive impact saw Tottenham come calling as they hired him to succeed Tim Sherwood.
Thus began a superb five-year stint at Spurs in which Pochettino helped Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League every year from 2016 to 2019 – including a second place finish in the Premier League.
He also led them to the Champions League final in 2019, before they lost 2-0 to Liverpool.
Pochettino was then dismissed towards the end of 2019 after a run of poor results.
After 14 months out of the game, Poch returned to football in January 2021, joining Paris Saint-Germain following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

He missed out on the Ligue 1 title at the end of his first campaign as Lille were crowned French champions.
Poch did manage to win the league last season, but that could not save him from being dismissed as PSG’s Champions League last 16 exit to Real Madrid ultimately cost him his job. More

He and his international colleagues were suited and booted as they landed at Hamad International Airport on Friday.
Ronaldo, 37, missed last night’s 4-0 friendly victory over Nigeria due to a stomach bug.
However, he showed no ill-effects as he looked a picture of concentration in front of the camera upon arrival in the Middle East.
It comes amid news that United are preparing to take legal action against the legend over his bombshell interview.

SunSport revealed exclusively this week that the club wanted to rip up his contract and now a club statement has now seemed to confirm that.
United have reportedly instructed Ronaldo not to return to Carrington once he gets back from the World Cup.
It is also understood the club have begun the legal process to terminate Ronaldo’s £500k-a-week deal without paying him a single penny of the £16million he would have earned until he deal expires at the end of June.
The statement read: “Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview.

“We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion.”
He hit out at United for “betraying” him and making him feel like a “black sheep” as well as blaming him for everything going wrong at the club.
The striker revealed he does not respect manager Erik ten Hag and blasted the club’s lack of progress since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013 – the last time they won the title.
And he also claimed that the club “doubted” him after he informed them that the reason he arrived late of pre-season was because his baby daughter was in hospital through illness.
On the second part of the incredible interview he shockingly revealed he wants bitter rivals Arsenal to clinch the title if United can’t – that was after stating that he believes his side are three years away from challenging themselves.
But for at least the nest fortnight the superstar is focussed on trying to land the one crown that has so far evaded him.
Portugal kick-off their World Cup campaign next Thursday against Ghana.
They then face Uruguay and South Korea in Group H. More
