Piers Morgan reveals text Cristiano Ronaldo sent him minutes after Man Utd exit with Portugal star thrilled to be ‘free’

PIERS MORGAN has revealed he and Cristiano Ronaldo exchanged text messages minutes after the 37-year-old’s Manchester United exit was confirmed. The pair combined for one of football’s most explosive interviews as Ronaldo lashed out at his club hours after they finished the first half of their season with a win at Fulham.

His incredible attack left his position untenable and he and the club mutually decided to rip up his contract.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Sun columnist Morgan revealed how he used a famous movie scene GIF to communicate with the star over the news.
He said: “I texted Cristiano a GIF of William Wallace in Braveheart shouting: ‘Freedom!’
“He thought that was a perfect summation of how he felt. ‘Free as a bird’ was his response.”

The Talk TV host also revealed what Ronaldo really wants next in his career amid mounting speculation of a big money move to Saudi Arabia.
Morgan added: “He thinks that if he does well at this World Cup, he’ll get what he really wants.
“Which is a club in the Champions League that extends his record and his legacy.
“It’s not about money at this stage of his career. It comes down to a burning desire to play football at the highest level, to break records and win trophies.

“And he has done that in more countries than any other player in history.”
All eyes will fall on Ronaldo after the World Cup as he weighs up the next move in his extraordinary career.
The 2021 return to United looked to be the perfect solution for both parties at the time, with the Portuguese legend bringing his goals and status to a side in need of a lift.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was axed only months later and his interim replacement Ralf Rangnick could only guide the club to a disappointing sixth.
As he revealed in his tell-all chat with Morgan, Ronaldo was extremely critical of the appointment of Rangnick and claimed he did not have respect for his current manager Erik ten Hag.
He also hit out at Man United’s inability to adapt and getting leapfrogged by their rivals.
Ronaldo said: “Since Sir Alex Ferguson left I saw no evolution in the club, the progress was zero.
“Nothing changed. Not only the pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym. They stopped in time, which surprised me a lot.
“I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. But you have some things inside [the club] that don’t help reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal.” More

Cristiano Ronaldo brings Lisbon to a standstill as £500k fleet of supercars is shipped to Portugal after Man Utd exit

CRISTIANO RONALDO brought the streets of Lisbon to a standstill on Tuesday when his £500,000 fleet of supercars was delivered to a backstreet garage for valet cleaning. A huge lorry took the striker’s prized £150,000 Cadillac Escalade – a gift for his 37th birthday from Wag Georgina Rodriguez – and his £300,000 Bentley Flying Spur from his rented mansion in Alderley Edge, Cheshire – just hours before Man Utd bosses announced they were ripping up his contract.

A week later the same vehicles were spotted by onlookers being delivered following a 1,500-mile journey to an exclusive car valet garage on the outskirts of his home town.
An onlooker said: “The delivery driver tried to unload them with as little fuss as possible, but the lorry blocked the road and that created a bit of a traffic backlog.
“Then the Escalade and the Bentley rolled out of the back and they are very eye-catching.
“They tried to get them into the garage as quickly as possible, but the cars still had British plates so it was pretty easy to work out they belong to Ronaldo.

“Maybe he wants to get them home while he plots his next move on the football pitch.”
United signed Ronaldo in 2003 as a teenager after Sir Alex Ferguson saw him play for Sporting Lisbon in a friendly against the Red Devils.
He has been linked with a move back to Lisbon after parting company with United earlier this month following a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan’s TalkTV show in which he criticised the United owners and manager Erik ten Hag.
A move back to Lisbon would please his mum Dolores who said in September 2021: “Ronaldo has to come back (to Sporting), he’d be here for me. He likes watching Sporting’s games.

“I’ve already told him: ‘Son, before I die I want to see you return to Sporting’. ‘Let’s see…’, he said.”

Spanish media reported on Wednesday the Portuguese superstar has agreed a £173m-a-year deal with Saudi side Al Nassr, which would run until he is 40.
Ronaldo and his Portugal team-mates have already qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup after winning their first two group games.

Man Utd could have new owners BEFORE end of Premier League season as Glazers look for quick sale and consortium circle

MANCHESTER UNITED could have new owners BEFORE the end of the Premier League season, according to reports. The Glazers purchased the club for £790m back in 2005, but their long reign could be coming to an end.

That’s because the BBC believe a deal could be ironed out by the spring.
Last week, the Americans claimed they were considering selling the club following 17 years in charge.
In a statement, Joel and Avram said: “As we seek to continue building on the club’s history of success, the board has authorised a thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives.
“We will evaluate all options to ensure that we best serve our fans and that Manchester United maximises the significant growth opportunities available to the club today and in the future.

“Throughout this process we will remain fully focused on serving the best interests of our fans, shareholders, and various stakeholders.”
And that could come to fruition very quickly, although a deal is far from guaranteed to happen.
The Glazers have come under intense scrutiny in recent years, with United trophyless since 2017, while they’ve regularly failed in the transfer market.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently called them out by saying they “don’t care” about the fans in his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

But they’re set to reward Rashford for his outstanding form for club and country with a contract extension.
That’s according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who claims the Red Devils are desperate to tie him down to fresh terms.
Rashford was considering his future at United earlier this year after losing his place in the team under Ralf Rangnick.
He was particularly frustrated after being overlooked for the Manchester derby in March, especially when Cristiano Ronaldo was unavailable.

But the forward has knuckled down since Erik ten Hag arrived and looks back to his best.
Rashford has scored eight goals this term, three more than his tally from the whole of last season.
As a result, he’s won his place back in the England squad and is starring at the World Cup.
The United graduate scored his first ever tournament goal in the thumping win over Iran and marked his first start in Qatar with two fine strikes against Wales.

Man Utd legend Jaap Stam slams Jadon Sancho and Antony before urging Erik ten Hag to complete Cody Gakpo transfer

EX-MANCHESTER UNITED ace Jaap Stam has slammed Jadon Sancho and Antony for their lack of consistency – but is unsure whether Cody Gakpo is the answer.Sancho made the switch from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, while the Brazil international arrived 12 months later in an £85.5m move from Ajax.

But the former has been unable to live up to expectations, scoring just five goals in 39 Prem appearances, which has led to him losing his place in the England squad.
Antony enjoyed a bright start, netting in his first three league games, but hasn’t found the net since and was recently criticised for showboating.
And Jaap has taken aim at the pair for not performing at the required level.
    read more on Man Utd
He told Football Betting: “Man United need a winger that can deliver a certain quality of football because Jadon Sancho isn’t delivering yet.
“Marcus Rashford is doing very well, Antony has come in and has scored a couple of goals but I think he needs to step up because he’s not performing to the standard I know he can.
“To be consistent, Man United need forwards who are performing in almost every game and that’s why you need to have options because if someone isn’t performing, then you’re able to bring someone else in who can.”
One winger who’s been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford is Gakpo and his stock is only likely to grow after his World Cup heroics.

But Stam is unsure whether his fellow Dutchman is the solution for United.
He added: “Everyone is talking about Cody Gakpo, people are going to assume that Man United are going to go for him but I don’t know if that’s the situation.
“Gakpo would be a player that would fit into the Man United squad.
“There would be questions over whether he can deliver straight away because he’s from Holland and we have seen people struggle in the past.
“The question is then, do Man United need to go for a more experienced winger that has maybe played at a certain level so that they can have an impact straight away.” More
