Ten Hag said: “After the game I expressed honestly that it was a lesson and we took that lesson and from that point on we have made huge progress so we have to continue the progress.
“That game was a setback, we can all find reasons why but always you have to act, to deliver, as a manager, a coach you have to take certain steps, you need a clear philosophy, a clear point where you want to go, direction.
“Then it is about development and that is what we did but like many things in life particularly football there is never an end point.
“Tomorrow we have to do better. We know what we have to work on. There was a process in the last months and now we have to face it against the better teams and it is about the mental approach and attitude so we have to be brave, act with belief and play our game.”

While United are on an eight-game winning run, City suffered a midweek setback when they were knocked out the Carabao Cup 2-0 by Southampton.
But Ten Hag said: “Of course we notice that they had a setback and of course I have seen the past weeks, many games of them, but we have to look at ourselves and play our best game, it is all about us.

Rigg, 15, is wanted by Newcastle as they look to add more potential talents to their squad.
However, after being given a clear route to first-team football with rivals Sunderland, Rigg will have a tough decision.
The Black Cats can continue to aid his development, but the Magpies are likely able to offer more money and the prospect of Premier League football.
As he is under 16, Newcastle would not have to pay a transfer fee to acquire him.

But Sunderland would be given a fee decided by a tribunal because they have developed him.
And the Magpies think they have one advantge to signing him, as Rigg’s dad has been revealed to be a supporter of the St James’ Park side.
Journalist James Copley told The Roar podcast: “We do know that Chris Rigg comes from a sort of mixed family in terms of Sunderland and Newcastle allegiances.
“I understand that his Dad is a big Newcastle fan so there’s always that sort of possibility and draw.”

This will be a boost to the Magpies as Manchester United have also been interested in the youngster.
Sunderland’s head of professional development phase, Graeme Murty, has insisted that Rigg still needs to better his understanding of the game.
He said: “It’s more about increasing his understanding of himself, his game and the game as a whole.
“We don’t want him just to understand how we would like him to influence the game, but he’s an international now so it’s understanding how international teams play.
“It’s understanding how to impact the game both with and without the ball, so then making sure we keep a real keen eye on his development and make sure there are no areas missed.
“There are times, for example, when he can scan better away from the ball.
“As you move up a level that becomes imperative because you get less time on the ball so you need to know your options earlier.
“We sit down, go through a debrief for him and work from a bespoke programme to make sure hopefully all his development needs are met.” More

Weghorst, 30, was on loan with Besiktas but will have the temporary deal terminated early to make the switch to Old Trafford.
United will pay Burnley a £3million fee – and cover the forward’s wages of around £40,000 per week.

“He will not be available for tomorrow”.
Weghorst will be the club’s second January signing after missing out on both Cody Gakpo and Joao Felix but landing Jack Butland.
Erik ten Hag was keen to bring in a centre-forward after Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive Piers Morgan interview saw him axed.
Anthony Martial has started up front in recent matches with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga also capable on filling in as a No9 if needed.

But the 6ft 6ins forward, who excelled for AZ Alkmaar and Wolfsburg before joining Burnley, will now provide another option in attack for Ten Hag.
The 19-cap Holland ace has just two goals in 20 Clarets appearances but has shone for Besiktas either side of his stunning goal at the World Cup.

The Red Devils’ incoming striker has not been registered in time to be involved at Old Trafford tomorrow, meaning he will have to wait until Wednesday’s trip to Crystal Palace.
United host champions City for the lunchtime kick-off desperate to get revenge for the 6-3 defeat earlier in the season.
Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand is confident his former side can challenge Pep Guardiola’s men.
He told SunSport: “I’m going into this derby thinking, ‘We can give them a game’.
“You can see players gaining in confidence. For far too long we were going into games thinking, ‘Obviously, we are going to get beat here today but I don’t know how many’.
“Or we were going to the likes of Brentford and concede one and it could be three or four.

“When we have been feeling that as Man United fans, it is now nice going to games not feeling like that.
“I am now going to a game not looking through my fingers, expecting crazy s*** going on. I am going there now with a bit of, ‘I fancy us today. I fancy us to beat them and dominate the ball’, because you can see something tactically that has been consistently coming out every week now.”

The Scottish boss was known for his infamous ‘hairdryer treatment’, which would be handed out to his players.
The most famous example of the treatment was when David Beckham was left with a cut above his eye after a football boot had been kicked at him.
However, Young insisted that he managed to escape it along with midfielder Darren Fletcher while he was at Old Trafford.
He told The Telegraph: “We have a WhatsApp group for the old [Manchester United] players and we think there were only two out of the era who didn’t get shouted at.

“I was one and the other was Darren Fletcher. I don’t know whether that is because he is Scottish.”
Fletcher was a favourite of Ferguson during his time at the club, as he played most of his career at the Red Devils.
The 37-year-old also revealed that Ferguson would never be called ‘Fergie’ despite the nickname being popular among others.
He added: “You can’t say ‘Fergie’ either.

“That’s not allowed. He’s ‘The Boss’. Just to let you know!”
Young continued to admit that he was “given the most” by Ferguson in his career and that he is still in regular contact with the 81-year-old.
Young said: “I won’t say the best but the one who has given me the most is ‘The Boss’. Sir Alex.
“The one I still talk to most is ‘The Boss’. I had a conversation with him a few months ago and he was talking about the changes in football and how he would be in football nowadays.
“I won’t go into the conversation … I don’t know if he’s impressed by certain changes.
“But the way ‘The Boss’ was for years, the success he had – he had his way of dealing with players, of dealing with the press, whatever else there was.
“How he had his team set up. How he knew his team – weeks, months, in advance.
“The way he was with players. I am not too sure how that would be seen these days.” More

Elanga has been sought after by the Merseyside outfit since the beginning of last season, and it finally looks like they could get their man.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton have ‘firmed up’ their offer for the Manchester United player looking to bring in him on an initial loan deal.
In order to complete the deal however, the Toffee’s will need to let go of some of their current roster with Abdoulaye Doucoure, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate just some of the names who look to be on their way out.

Yet it was under Ralf Rangnick where the 20-year-old had his most impressive spell, becoming a regular in the team
Since the arrival of Erik Ten Haag however, the Swede has fallen back down the pecking order.
With the emergence of teammate Alejandro Garnacho, Elanga has only managed to find his way into the starting 11 just five times this season.
Despite the interest from Everton, it is understood that there are some other Premier League teams who are keen to pursue the young winger.

Although if Lampard can complete the deal for Elanga, it will see their third forward signing since the start of the season, joining Neil Maupay and Dwight McNeil.
