He is tipped for big things, with the full-back now thriving on loan at Preston.
But the left-back has admitted that his 2020 move from Real Madrid to United left him many questions.
He told AS: “You come to a new country, to a new team. It’s time to adapt. It’s a bit crazy.
“You think about playing for a year in the Under-18s, calm, adapting, the family away because it was a pandemic and I couldn’t go home.

“I had several colleagues who helped me who were already there, especially [former United youth midfielder] Arnau Puigmal who is now at Almería, in the Spanish first division.
“When he went up to the Under-23s, he was there and with the Under-18s there were [Alejandro] Garnacho, Marc Jurado, Mateo Mejía… they helped me with English.
“The first day I arrived, the coach gave a talk and I thought, ‘what am I doing here?'”
The defender had such a good reputation at Real Madrid that even Ronaldo had been informed about him.

Fernandez said of the 38-year-old: “[I got on] very well with him, he is very nice. With young people he is very top, very close.
“On top of the fact that he spoke Spanish, he knew that I had been in Madrid. They had already told him about me.”

He has made 27 appearances for the Championship side this season and insists the move is “what he wanted.” More

New Man Utd bidder makes approach allowing Glazers to STAY, following ‘all or nothing’ offer from Qatar

THE bidders hoping to take over Manchester United are expected to hear on Wednesday if they are allowed access to the Old Trafford club’s books. But growing fears that the Glazer family will not sell have increased after the latest valuation of United by financial experts – and an offer by a new investment consortium to help them STAY in charge.
Bidders are expected to hear on Wednesday whether they’re allowed access to the Old Trafford club’s booksCredit: EPA
Luxembourg-based hedge fund Genevra Associates say they want to take a “minority stake” alongside the “current majority owners” – the Glazers.
But they also say they aim to open up 50 per cent of the ownership of the club to fans.
In comments likely to alienate the Glazers from the off, Genevra’s Shah Farsi said: “We understand that United fans have been rightfully frustrated over the last several years.
“Our aim is to act as the force of reformation that harmonises the interests of the owners and the fans and push for some much-needed transformation at the club.

“We have received a number of solid commitments over the recent weeks and we hope to transform that into a unique win-win opportunity for all those involved.”
The move comes as the Glazers’ appointed bankers, the New York-based Raine Group, are understood to be ready to confirm which bid teams will be allowed to go through to the second stage of the process.
That would allow the two declared suitors, Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, to properly scrutinise the club’s accounts and submit a second offer.
Raine are not naming any of the bidders which leaves the scope for additional potential buyers to emerge, including Genevra.

With no fewer than FOUR US hedge funds and financiers willing to stump up the money to help new bidders get into the contest, the fight for United could be about to intensify.
Elliott Management, which previously owned AC Milan, was the first hedge fund to out itself as potential deal enablers 10 days ago.
Now Elliott have been joined by three other financial institutions, Oaktree, Ares and MSD Partners, in the funding race.
Oaktree, which has assets in excess of £100bn, lent China’s Suning corporation £226m towards its purchase of Inter Milan and has an 80 per cent stake in French Ligue 2 side Caen.
All four are understood to be prepared to help potential bidders raise the capital required to entice the Glazers into a sale.
But the Glazers’ £6bn asking price has been put into starker context by the latest valuation of the club by the Financial Times’ “Lex” column.
Using a calculation known as “discounted cash flow analysis”, United was valued at just £1.32bn, less than a quarter of the £6bn the Glazers want.
That valuation, though, does seem on the low side with United shares, trading on the New York Stock Exchange, giving a figure of £2.8bn, while evaluating the club based on revenues – and using the model set when Raine sold Chelsea to Todd Boehly last summer – gives a total of £3.55bn.
    Read More on The Sun
Those numbers may prompt the declared bidders to “go low”, with Ratcliffe’s Ineos petro-chemicals giant targeting just the Glazers’ 69 per cent stake rather than a complete takeover while Sheikh Jassim wants full ownership.
But bids that do not get close to the Glazers’ target value could still see the family pull up the drawbridge and wait for market conditions to change in the future – much to the frustration of the many United fans who are desperate for them to quit the club. More

Man Utd planning TWO huge transfers this summer including Kane, Osimhen and other stars… but must sell first

MANCHESTER UNITED are planning to make two massive summer transfers – but must sell first.Erik ten Hag looks set to continue the big spending ahead of the 2023-24 season following the expensive arrivals of Antony, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez last summer.

And the Manchester Evening News report high on the wishlist for the upcoming transfer window are Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.
The Red Devils will prioritise a striker following the departures of Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo, while Wout Weghorst is only on loan.
Kane, 29, is a long-term target and has proved himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever No9s, notching up 201 goals.
Napoli’s 24-year-old Osimhen, meanwhile, has been tearing it up for the Serie A leaders.

Portugal and Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos, 21, is another potential target.
Elsewhere, Ten Hag wants to bring in Mohammad Kudus, 22, from former club Ajax.
And in midfield, Jude Bellingham, 19, is a key target while they could even reignite their pursuit of 25-year-old Frenkie de Jong.
Plus a centre-back might be needed should captain Harry Maguire be sold.

However, in order to fund the major splurge and make space in the squad, United know they need to get rid of a few players.
Alex Telles and Anthony Martial look on course to follow Maguire through the Old Trafford exit door.
United could be under new ownership by the time the transfer market reopens following bids by Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe to buy the Red Devils.
And the club could also be the holders of FOUR major trophies.
United beat Newcastle to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday and are still in the FA Cup and Europa League plus retain an outside chance of pipping Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Man Utd share prices COLLAPSE because ‘there is a feeling the Glazers will NOT sell and club’s only worth £1.3billion’

A “FEELING that the Glazer family will NOT sell Manchester United” has reportedly led to the club’s share price plummeting by almost ten per cent. The Red Devils are only worth around £1.3BILLION according to new analysis – significantly less than the Glazers’ rumoured asking price.

The Glazer family have been exploring a sale since the end of last year, but are yet to receive the £6bn they want.
Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim wants to buy the club either in its entirety now, or not at all.
He, as well as boyhood Man United fan Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are both set to have initial bids rejected by the Glazers.
Bidders are currently waiting to hear back from The Raine Group, the bank overseeing the possible sale.

The market value of United, who won the Carabao Cup at Wembley on Sunday in front of Avram Glazer, was thought to be at around £3.75bn. Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bids were believed to be in this region.
However fresh reports in the Financial Times have had a big impact on their shareholders and the price of stock.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol said: “The share price has fallen by almost 10 per cent and I think the reasons behind that are down to two reports in the Financial Times this weekend.
“The first one said that Manchester United are not worth the £5bn that the Glazers are looking for if they were to sell Manchester United as, according to the FT, United are worth £1.3bn. Much less than anyone had thought before.

“There was also another report on Saturday which said that the bidders for Manchester United had so far not offered enough money to tempt the Glazers to sell.
“If the Glazers were to sell then the two bidders that we know about, Sheikh Jassim from Qatar and Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS company, would have to increase their bids.
“This has all led to a sense that the Glazers will not sell Manchester United.”
Solhekol reiterated: “What’s happened is that the traders, the people who own shares, the value of them shares has gone down today because there is a feeling that the Glazers might not sell.
“And if they are not going to sell, Man United is not worth £6bn, £7bn and it could be worth closer to what the Financial Times is saying, which is £1.3bn.
“That is why the share price has gone down today.
“Forget what has happened on the football pitch, if you’re an investor all that matters is are the Glazers going to sell the club and how much is the club worth, and at the moment, there seems to be a feeling that the Glazers are not going to sell the club.”
He added: “The Glazers have never come out and said ‘we want to sell Manchester United’. They’ve been very clever about it.
    Read More on The Sun
“In November they said that they were exploring alternative strategies, potentially that could lead to a sale.
“But you could make the argument that United are playing so well at the moment, winning trophies again, is it really a good time sell? Maybe the clever thing to do is hold on to the club but just sell a small stake and use the money in redeveloping the stadium and training ground.”

Summer signing Casemiro opened the scoring in the first half, and a deflected Marcus Rashford shot sent Man Utd in at half-time with a two-goal lead.
Man Utd’s defensive work proved just as important to winning the Carabao Cup – Ten Hag’s first trophy at the club.
They came up against a Newcastle side who’s success has been heavily built on their size and physicality.
Dan Burn, Sven Botman and Fabian Schar all possess an attacking threat from set-pieces.

Across all competitions, Newcastle have scored 12 goals from set-pieces – the eighth highest out of all Premier League teams.
So Ten Hag came up with a plan – and then plastered it on the changing room wall to ensure his team knew how to stop Newcastle’s set-piece threat.
It worked, with United successfully dealing with six Newcastle corners and multiple dangerous free-kicks, with set-piece wizard Kieran Trippier standing over the ball.

Ten Hag was delighted to win his first piece of silverware at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman said: “It is about glory and honour and if you want to prove something and win something you have to do it because no one is bringing something to you in top football.
“You have to win the first [trophy] and that is what we did today.
“You can take inspiration from this, but also more confidence.

Success in the Carabao Cup could provide a platform for a very productive season for United, who are also competing for the title, FA Cup and Europa League.
But next season they could have another target in mind – the Champions League.
And to achieve that aim Ten Hag could be given the funds to bring in a top quality striker.
Wout Weghorst was signed as a temporary solution in January but the Red Devils have since been linked with Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.

Both would command significant transfer fees with Napoli striker Osimhen believed to have a £107million release clause.
But the two strikers would guarantee goals – Kane has 20 in all competitions this season while Osimhen has 21.
United are also planning to bolster their midfield and could finally land Declan Rice this summer.
West Ham are still demanding a significant fee for the England star, believed to be around £100m, while Arsenal are also threatening to pip United to the midfielder.
