Neville thinks that Raya has the attributes to be able to make the step up to the Red Devils in order to step in to De Gea’s spot.
De Gea is set to be handed a new contract at Old Trafford as a reward for his brilliant performances this season.
But Neville reckons that the club should still be looking for a replacement.
He told The Overlap: “I think Raya would interest United in the summer.

“I went to watch Brentford a couple of weeks ago… I think he’s going to become available, he’s only got a year left.
“I think he could step up.”
Neville, however, did insist that being the goalkeeper at Old Trafford is the “most difficult position in English football” and that Raya would need to be ready for the scrutiny that he would come under.
He added: “It is a problem that. I’ve said it’s the single most difficult position in English football being the Manchester United goalkeeper. I genuinely believe that.

“I think Liverpool’s number one is the second.
“And that’s not to be disrespectful to all other clubs, I think the Manchester United goalkeeper comes under more scrutiny if they make a mistake than any other position in English football on the pitch.
“It’s tough! And I’ve seen lads in that goal [struggle]. That’s the problem they’ve got.
“It’s whether [a new goalkeeper] can handle that stadium.”
De Gea became the club’s all time record clean sheet holder after he kept Newcastle at bay in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. More

Fans convinced Marcel Sabitzer wants permanent Man Utd transfer after ‘sending message on Instagram’

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left convinced Marcel Sabitzer wants to join the club permanently. It comes after the on-loan Bayern Munich star sent a “message” with his Instagram activity.

Sabitzer has impressed with his passing range since coming into the team
Sabitzer, 28, joined Manchester United in January following Christian Eriksen’s lengthy injury.
The Austrian has been at Bayern since the summer of 2021, but fans spotted an interesting feature on his Instagram page.
This being the number of posts he has relating to Bayern and United.
Sabitzer posted just three times to his Instagram while with the German champions, including two posts announcing his transfer from RB Leipzig.

However, since joining the Red Devils he has already posted 12 times since February 2.
And fans are convinced they know the cryptic message behind it.
One fan said: “No reason for us not to sign him up permanently!
“Need to build that quality in depth he has the mentality and quality to be a united player.”

A second said: “He loves United more than Bayern… he knows he will just end up on the bench at Bayern.
“A player of his calibre needs to be playing games which he will be doing at United. We need players like him. He’s a machine. ❤️❤️🔥🔥.”
While a third wrote: “We need him permanently, we need to have a big squad with quality.”
However, some fans noted the reason behind the number of posts could be related to United’s PR and marketing departments.
One fan argued: “Tbf the club definitely makes our players do this – look how suddenly two or three of our players have made TikTok accounts at the same time.”
A second user commented: “Man United have a PR team that handles Social Media for players. Bayern seem like they don’t.
“I am pretty sure it has been mentioned that a lot of United players have contractual obligations in their contracts regarding social media as well.”
“I mean, probably has a clause in his contract stating he has to post x-amount of posts for engagement/global branding,” added a third.
On the subject of a permanent deal for Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst, Erik ten Hag was coy.
He said: “I think it is much too quick [to decide]. [It is] much too soon to talk about that.
“First, we are in this season and that is where the focus has to be.

Wout Weghorst showed in just five seconds why Erik ten Hag decided to sign him Man Utd in shock transfer

WOUT WEGHORST needed just five seconds against Newcastle to show exactly why Manchester United signed him. The Dutch striker was signed following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo on loan from Burnley in January.

Weghorst, 30, has started all 12 games he has been available for, including Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final win over Newcastle.
The towering 6ft 6in forward has only managed to find the net once for the Red Devils but the MEN claim that is not concerning boss Erik ten Hag as “he brought him in for a different reason”.
They state his “persistent running and hold-up play” is admired by his manager, which led to him being dropped into a No.10 role where he shone in the 2-2 Europa League play-off first leg draw in Barcelona.
Ten Hag tried to deploy the same tactic in the second leg, only this time it failed to work as he was replaced by Antony at half time, and the Brazilian went on to claim a 2-1 win over the LaLiga side.

However, he is still able to perform his drop-off and play-forward duties from the No.9 role.
And he did that perfectly at Wembley against Newcastle – and he needed just four seconds to show exactly why Ten Hag favoured him in attack rather than Anthony Martial.

Weghorst received the ball and carried it for four seconds before threading a pass in to Marcus Rashford to race through and double the advantage after Casemiro’s opener.
And that is exactly the type of impact that Ten Hag signed him for.

That took Weghorst’s tally to two assists for United – which is obviously double the amount of goals he has scored.
This report states that “whether he grabs the final set-up or not, it’s his link-up play for the on-bombing wide men that has proved appetising” to the coach.
And he has already proven with his displays in Barcelona and at Wembley that he is certainly a man for the big occasion. More

Real Madrid make Jude Bellingham and Josko Gvardiol top two transfer targets as Spaniards plan raid for young stars

REAL MADRID have reportedly made Jude Bellingham and Josko Gvardiol their top summer transfer targets.Bellingham, 19, is one of the most in-demand teenagers in world football after his exploits at the World Cup and for Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked with the ex-Birmingham City midfield ace.
We reported last month how Newcastle had now joined the transfer chase, while Real Madrid have also held a heavy interest in signing the teenage sensation.
Los Blancos have been trying to work on a deal for some time with their chief scout Juni Calafat already “taking care of relations” with Bellingham’s father, Mark, who manages his son’s career.
But there was a growing feeling that they “are becoming resigned to the fact that the financial muscle of the Premier League is almost unbeatable”.

However, after famously missing out on Kylian Mbappe last summer, the England international has been made one Madrid’s “main targets” for the next transfer window.
That is according to Spanish publication Sport, who also claim that fellow World Cup star Gvardiol is the other.
Chelsea have targeted the Croatian defender for several months and tried to sign him in January.
But after Gvardiol scored for RB Leipzig against Manchester City in the Champions League Round of 16 last week his manager Marco Rose issued a hands off warning.

The ace is under contract until 2027 – but that does not appear to be deterring Madrid.
Los Blancos are allegedly preparing for the departure of midfield veterans Toni Kroos and Luka Modric at the end of the season along with defender Nacho Fernandez.
And they look set to go all-out to bring in the young duo to bolster their ranks and replace them. More

Man Utd’s permanent transfer stance on Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer revealed as pair battle for futures

MANCHESTER UNITED’s understated January transfer business saw Wout Wegorst and Marcel Sabitzer join the club on loan.Weghorst, 30, has started all 12 games he has been available for, while Sabitzer, 28, has started United’s last three Premier League matches.

Dutch striker Weghorst was signed following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, while an injury to Christian Eriksen saw the Red Devils swoop to bring in Sabitzer from Bayern Munich.
Both played in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final triumph over Newcastle – Weghorst from the start and Sabitzer a 69th minute replacement for Fred.
However, United do not have an option or obligation to buy either player when their loan deals expire at the end of the campaign.
But boss Erik ten Hag has claimed it’s “too soon” to decide whether the Red Devils will pursue a permanent move for either Weghorst or Sabitzer.

When asked if he wanted to keep them in the squad, Ten Hag said: ”I think it is much too quick [to decide]. [It is] much too soon to talk about that.

After winning the Carabao Cup at the weekend, Ten Hag has set his sights on more glory in his debut campaign as Old Trafford boss.
United are still fighting in both the Europa League and the FA Cup.
An FA Cup fifth round meeting with West Ham awaits on Wednesday evening, with a Europa League Round of 16 clash with Real Betis also coming up later this month.
Elsewhere the Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League, eight points off leaders Arsenal, with a late title charge potentially on the cards. More

Seven Man Utd stars facing axe by Erik ten Hag this summer to help fund transfer spending spree if Glazers stay

MANCHESTER UNITED could reportedly sell SEVEN players in the summer if the Glazers stay and force Erik ten Hag to raise funds. The Red Devils’ ownership situation remains unclear amid months of speculation.

Anthony Martial has dropped down the pecking order at Man UtdCredit: Getty
The Glazers opened the door to selling the club earlier this season and have attracted interest from Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
However, there is still a fear among some Man Utd fans that their despised bosses will decide to stick around.
If that does happen, Ten Hag will likely be made to offload players in order to fund any new deals.
And The Mirror are reporting that as many as seven stars face the chop at Old Trafford.

    Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire, 29, has started just five Premier League games this season as Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez continue to build a strong partnership.
And while Ten Hag has reassured him he is a big part of his plans, United could still sell as he would command a substantial fee.
    Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has proven his worth over the past few months following a poor start to life under Ten Hag.
But he could still demand a hefty price tag in the window. And with Diogo Dalot a long-term option at right-back, United may see him as expendable come the end of the season.

    Brandon Williams
Brandon Williams has returned from last season’s loan spell at Norwich and been outcast by Ten Hag.
The 22-year-old has earned just one appearance this season – a five-minute outing in the Carabao Cup.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are firmly ahead of him in the pecking order of left-backs, so he is an almost certain departure.

    Donny van de Beek
Donny van de Beek has endured a torrid time since arriving from Ajax in 2020.
And a reunion with former coach Ten Hag has done nothing to reignite his form in Manchester.
He made just four starts for United before being ruled out with a knee injury and that could cruelly signal the end of his spell at the club.
    Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial seemed to be a favoured forward option for Ten Hag at the start of the season.
But continual injury issues have left him unable to establish a lengthy run in the team.
Six goals in 14 appearances is not a bad return, but his inability to remain fit could mean United show him the exit door at the end of the campaign as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
    Alex Telles
Alex Telles was sent out on loan to Sevilla following the arrival of Malacia in the summer.
But he has missed the last two months due to a knee injury and been unable to showcase his capabilities as a result.
With his contract up in 2024, expect him to be sold this summer.

Man Utd still want Frenkie de Jong transfer this summer as Barcelona midfielder impresses in Europa League clash

MANCHESTER UNITED remain keen on signing Frenkie De Jong, according to reports. De Jong and Man Utd were in a well-documented transfer saga last summer, with the midfielder ultimately rejecting a move in order to fight for his spot at Barcelona.

De Jong showed off his press resistance in the home leg of the Europa League clash
However, Erik ten Hag has remained keen on signing him.
According to Sport, United are planning to make two major signings in the summer window.
One of the priorities is a new midfielder, particularly with a profile to complement Casemiro.
Ten Hag wants to add a player with a strong ability to build up play from deep, a role De Jong can certainly fulfil – as proven in the Man Utd and Barcelona clash in the Europa League.

He is also equally comfortable as the deepest player in the midfield if required.
The report describes De Jong, 25, as being “key” to Ten Hag’s system at former club Ajax.
Current club Barcelona remains in need of departures in order to help balance the books, which has left them open to selling De Jong.
But should a move not transpire as hoped, United have contingency plans.

Sport’s report adds Jude Bellingham is another major midfield target.

Man Utd takeover set to be DELAYED until May as Glazers disagree over whether to drop £6m valuation

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe both offered a maximum £4.5bn.
And according to The Guardian, any takeover is set to be DELAYED until May.
The Glazers are intent on securing their £6bn asking price for Man Utd.
That is despite the latest valuation of United by financial experts.
    READ MORE MAN UTD NEWS
the Glazers’ £6bn asking price has been put into starker context by the latest valuation of the club by the Financial Times’ “Lex” column.
Using a calculation known as “discounted cash flow analysis”, United was valued at just £1.32bn, less than a quarter of the £6bn the Glazers want.
That valuation, though, does seem on the low side with United shares, trading on the New York Stock Exchange, giving a figure of £2.8bn, while evaluating the club based on revenues – and using the model set when Raine sold Chelsea to Todd Boehly last summer – gives a total of £3.55bn.
Those numbers may prompt the declared bidders to “go low”, with Ratcliffe’s Ineos petro-chemicals giant targeting just the Glazers’ 69 per cent stake rather than a complete takeover while Sheikh Jassim wants full ownership.

However, another bid coming from Luxembourg-based hedge fund Genevra Associates could see them take a “minority stake” alongside the “current majority owners” – the Glazers.
A minority stake being bought in Man Utd could allow the Glazers more time to oversee any potential success by Erik ten Hag and his squad.
Man Utd won their first trophy since 2017 on Sunday, beating Newcastle 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final.
Bidders are expected to hear on Wednesday whether they’re allowed access to the Old Trafford club’s books.
