Mason Mount’s price tag revealed as Man Utd join Liverpool and City in transfer race for Chelsea star

MANCHESTER UNITED, Liverpool and Manchester City have learned how much Chelsea will demand for Mason Mount.SunSport revealed on Thursday that Erik ten Hag’s men have joined the race to sign the England international, 24.

It comes amid a contract stand-off between Mount and the Blues.
His existing deal is set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 season and stalling negotiations are expected to leave the club with a decision to make.
Mount is understood to be after a significant pay rise from his current wages of around £80,000 per week.
And he is reluctant to sign a huge long-term deal like compatriot Reece James.

Chelsea’s influx of players has also left Mount pushed down the pecking order.
He has started just one of their last four Premier League games.
And while it remains to be seen whether he will stay or go, rival English clubs have been put on alert by reports of a £50MILLION price tag.
Man Utd are understood to be in for Mount after recognising they are not at the front of the queue when it comes to the pursuit of Jude Bellingham.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are thought to be the frontrunners to sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.
Mount, who has contributed three goals and six assists this season, has emerged as an ideal fit for Ten Hag’s side.

Man Utd are targeting a number of high-profile players in the summer, the biggest of which is Tottenham talisman Harry Kane.
But in order to sign several new stars, Ten Hag is also required to offload unwanted individuals.
They are set to include captain Harry Maguire, forward Anthony Martial and midfielder Scott McTominay. More

Man Utd were FORTUNATE to only lose 7-0 against Liverpool as referee blunder is revealed

FIFA say ref Andy Madley should NOT have put Manchester United out of their Anfield misery by blowing up early.Madley only allowed three minutes of second half stoppage time in the 7-0 mauling despite Liverpool scoring six and the teams making substitutions in five separate windows between them.

Bruno Fernandes and Co came under heavy fire after capitulatingCredit: Rex
And while Fifa refs’ chief Pierluigi Collina understood the decision he said: “There should have been more time.
“I can understand that giving the right amount of additional time when it is 7-0 is difficult to understand in this specific match.
“But if the regulations of the competition say that goal difference is relevant for the ranking at the end, even one goal scored or not scored can make the difference.”
Prem chiefs will be ordered to ensure extra additional time is added in matches next season.

But the World Cup-style approach, which saw a staggering 27 minutes added to England’s opener against Iran, does not have to be followed.
Collina explained: “Referees should add all the time for injuries, penalties and red cards, goal celebrations, substitutions and VAR checks.
“They should also add on some time for free-kicks, goal kicks and corners, although we are looking at getting nearer 60 minutes of actual playing time, not 90.”
United only trailed at the break to Cody Gakpo’s 43rd minute opener after an even first period.

But once Liverpool went 3-0 up after 50 minutes it was only a question of how many more the home side would get.
Red Devils’ boss Erik ten Hag labelled his team’s capitulation as “unprofessional”.
Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah bagged doubles before sub Roberto Firmino got Liverpool’s seventh.
And chances were flowing so fast late on it’s a real possibility United would have suffered more if the game had been extended much longer. More

Man Utd scout Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal replacement Goncalo Ramos but face mammoth transfer fee

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly targeting Goncalo Ramos for a summer transfer. But the Red Devils will need to stump up a British record to trigger his release clause.
Goncalo Ramos is a transfer target for Manchester UnitedCredit: Getty
Ramos, 21, has shone for Benfica since breaking through as a first-team regular last season.
And his heroic exploits at the World Cup showed he can be the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo’s throne for Portugal.
Now United want him to be Ronaldo’s successor at Old Trafford, too, after sending scouts to watch him in action.
As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Erik ten Hag is desperate to add a striker to his squad and has identified Ramos as a potential option.

However, United face plenty of competition for his signature with some of Europe’s top clubs on the hunt for a new centre-forward.
And Romano insists Benfica are determined to do everything they can to hold on to the academy graduate – including with a mammoth release clause in his contract.
The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “Many European clubs are interested in Goncalo Ramos.
“PSG director Luis Campos wanted the player a year ago, last summer but it was not possible to negotiate with Benfica because they did not want to sell.

“Also Manchester United scouts have been following the player for a really long time.
“They really appreciate Goncalo Ramos. He’s one of many players they are tracking.
“But it’s important to say the Benfica position.
“Benfica love the player, they want to keep him, the manager Roger Schmidt has said publicly he loves him not just for the goals but also his attitude, hard work and defensive work with the team.
“This is why it will be really difficult to sign Goncalo Ramos but there is a release clause, the release clause will be buried in the summer 100 per cent and it is €120million [£106m].”
That £106m fee would match the fee Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in January – a new British transfer record.
Ramos has 37 goals in 93 senior games for his club – with a whopping 23 in 34 this term to help fire Benfica clear at the top of the Primeira Liga and into the Champions League quarter-finals.
For Portugal, he has four goals in five caps – including a phenomenal hat-trick against Switzerland in the World Cup last-16 6-1 win.
As revealed by SunSport, though, United have already made contact with Harry Kane over a blockbuster summer transfer while Napoli ace Victor Osimhen is also on their wishlist.

MANCHESTER UNITED are considering a move for Chelsea’s Mason Mount this summer as an alternative to Jude Bellingham. The Red Devils have weighed up a move for Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham, 19, but with Real Madrid and Liverpool considered to be ahead of them in the race, Erik ten Hag is looking to other targets.

And England midfielder Mount is increasingly being viewed as an ideal fit for the Dutchman’s plans going forward.
The 24-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge is up in the air amid a stand-off over a new contract.
Mount’s current deal expires next summer while talks over fresh terms have stalled over the Blues’ desire to tie their stars down to long-term deals.
Fellow academy graduate Reece James signed a six-year deal in west London last year, meaning there is an expectation on Mount to follow suit.

Boss Graham Potter has called for the situation to be resolved quickly, but while an impasse remains other top clubs are circling.Man United’s rivals Liverpool have also shown an interest, though they are also pursuing Bellingham this summer.
Ten Hag’s top target remains Tottenham and England star Harry Kane, though investment is needed elsewhere and Three Lions teammate Mount is viewed as a good fit alongside Spurs’ all-time top scorer.
United are growing ever more confident of landing Kane, whose camp have expressed an interest in the move, especially following Tottenham’s exit from both domestic cups and now the Champions League.
As well as planning big name arrivals at Old Trafford ahead of next season, Ten Hag also wants to cut a number of under-performing players from his squad.

Captain Harry Maguire, forward Anthony Martial and midfielder Scott McTominay are all facing uncertain futures and are in line to be moved on come the end of the campaign.
West Ham asked about a deal for England defender Maguire during the January window but were knocked back while both Newcastle and Southampton have considered McTominay.
Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has long been open to a move back to Crystal Palace, who he left for United in 2019, and despite his turnaround in form could still be heading for the exit this summer.
Ten Hag must also find a new club for Alex Telles, who is on loan at Sevilla until the end of the season but will have another year on his deal at Old Trafford when he returns.

Harry Maguire set for Man Utd exit after PSG line up £50m transfer in summer after having ‘deal on the table’ in January

HARRY MAGUIRE is a shock £50million summer target for misfiring French giants Paris Saint-Germain.SunSport can reveal that a deal ‘was on the table’ for Manchester United’s skipper in the January transfer window but time ran out before it could be finalised.
Harry Maguire has struggled for game time this season but Erik ten Hag has often spoken highly of his leadership skillsCredit: Getty
But that has only mothballed a move that will offer the England centre-half to end his frustrating four year spell at Old Trafford.
PSG will have to match Maguire’s £200,000 a week wages but with the club backed by billions of Qatari petro-dollars that is not seen as a problem.
Maguire, 30, still has just over two years left on his contract too but is now way down the pecking order and pondering his future.
He has started only one of the last eight Premier League games even though he remains as club captain.

Maguire played only two minutes of last month’s Carabao Cup Final victory over Newcastle at Wembley but still lifted the trophy jointly alongside Bruno Fernandes.
England boss Gareth Southgate has so far stayed loyal to Maguire and he is expected to start in the Euro 2024 qualifier on March 23 – despite his lack of appearances at club level.

PSG are reeling at yet another premature exit from the Champions League this season, going out on Wednesday night in a last 16 tie against Bayern Munich.
Defensive cover is at the heart of their problems with the club facing fierce criticism for failing to recruit properly in recent transfer windows.

Spanish veteran Sergio Ramos, 36, is the mainstay of the backline, which is why PSG coach Christophe Galtier made a bid for Maguire.
He would have been eligible for them in the Champions League even though he played for Erik ten Hag’s team in the Europa League this season.
Maguire was linked with a move to Man United’s Premier League rivals Aston Villa in January in another deal that failed to materialise.
His most recent start came in the 3-1 FA Cup win over West Ham 10 days ago and he was left out altogether for last Sunday’s 7-0 pummeling at Liverpool. More

‘It’s not enough’ – Harry Kane gives damning verdict on Spurs’ season as he’s linked with Man Utd transfer

HARRY KANE says finishing in the top four alone is no longer good enough for Tottenham.Qualifying for the Champions League again is the best Spurs can hope for this season after a nightmare week in which they have crashed out of two major cup competitions.

Last Wednesday saw them suffer an embarrassing defeat at Championship side Sheffield United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
That was followed up seven days later by a 1-0 aggregate defeat to AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League, with a 1-0 Premier League loss at Wolves sandwiched between.
There was a time when securing a top-four spot would have looked like success for Spurs.
But when asked if that is still the case now, Kane, who has famously never won a trophy, replied: “No, I don’t think so.

“Where we’re at as a club, we should be winning trophies. That’s always the aim.
“The top four [being our only target] is a consequence of not playing as well as we want to play.
“Now that’s all we can fight for so that’s going to be the goal and hopefully we can achieve that come the end of the season. But for sure, it’s not enough for this club.”
Spurs were poor in their second-leg home tie against Milan, which ended up goalless.

They had only two shots on target, with Kane’s header in injury time the closest they came.
Boss Antonio Conte revealed afterwards that he feared he may be sacked before his contract is up in the summer as a result.
Though the Italian is expected to take charge of Nottingham Forest at home on Saturday, where Spurs will hope to get back to winning ways to boost their top-four chances.
Asked to explain why Spurs have come up short over the last ten days, Kane responded: “It’s hard to put a finger on it.
“Especially over the last week, we’ve lacked quality in key moments against teams that we’ve had good opportunities against.
“Not just opportunities where you’re one-on-one with the keeper but opportunities where you’re in a good position on the pitch and we need more from all of us.
“To be more direct, more clinical. The last three games we haven’t scored a goal and that’s not good enough.
“Over the two legs, we can’t really say we did enough to get through. That’s just the reality of it. We need to improve in a lot of aspects and that’s the bottom line.”
There were a fair few boos at half-time on Wednesday and many more come the final whistle with fans facing up to a 15th consecutive season without a trophy.
Many are fed up with Conte’s pragmatic playing style and questioning whether the manager still even wants to be there.
Kane added: “I totally understand it (the fans’ frustration). Top four [alone] is not good enough for anyone at this club, especially the fans. They have the right to voice their opinion.
“The last week especially just hasn’t been good enough.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte believes he could be axed before the end of the seasonCredit: REX
“Before the Sheffield United game, the season could have been a whole lot different.
“You go through there, you take that momentum into the league game [at Wolves] and this game.
“But I feel like that loss last week put a dagger in our hearts and as you can see we haven’t really recovered from that.”
Many Spurs fans will worry that the events of the last week will have convinced Kane that his long-term future lies away from his boyhood club. His contract expires in the summer of 2024.
The uncertainty surrounding Conte’s position is unlikely to help the squad either.
But when that exact question was put to Kane, he remained diplomatic.
The 29-year-old said: “That’s his decision, he’s going to be the one that makes that choice.
“All we can do as players is try to perform for him, work as hard as we can.
“That’s what we’re doing. I said after the Wolves game at the weekend, you can’t fault the effort of the players.
“We’re trying, we’re training but we’re just lacking something.
