Spain international De Gea’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season.
United did have the option to extend the Spaniard’s stay by a further 12 months but opted not to.
The Red Devils brass, however, are eager to tie the 32-year-old down to a new deal.
SunSport revealed this week that United plan to restructure De Gea’s £250,000-a-week contract.
They plan to pay him a lower guaranteed wage but throw in extras if he makes enough appearances.
De Gea joined United in the summer of 2011 from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
The keeper has racked up 525 appearances during his time with the Red Devils, in which he’s won the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and two League Cups.

However Chelsea did not include a clause in the deal to make the move permanent, so other clubs can make an approach.
United have been linked to Felix for some time and are monitoring his current situation, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Erik ten Hag is reportedly prioritising a move for a striker when the summer transfer window re-opens.
And it is believed Felix could be available for £88million, though the Red Devils are hopeful of a more “favourable deal”.

However the Portugal international reportedly wants to stay at Chelsea, though he refused to be drawn in to speculation about his future.
Felix, 23, told the LondonBluePod: “For now I’m on loan at Chelsea, so I don’t know the future yet, but I’m here and I see that it’s a big club with a big project.
“I know that Chelsea is a great European team, I feel it and I can see it.”
It is possible Felix could stay at Atletico, with club captain Koke ready to welcome him back into the squad.

Leicester want Harry Maguire loan transfer as they look to bring in Man Utd ace to shore up shambolic defence

HARRY MAGUIRE  is wanted back ‘home’ at Leicester — with a loan move on the cards next season. The Manchester United centre-back faces limited game time in the run-in both at home and abroad after returning to Old Trafford from England duty.
Man Utd’s England defender Harry Maguire is being targeted by old club Leicester as well as other Premier League rivalsCredit: Getty
Now Brendan Rodgers is keen to take him back to the Foxes, where he was a massive hero.
Leicester will always be a lure for Maguire, 30, who left with the club’s blessing — with both sides making the exit one of the most dignified going.
Rodgers thinks he would be a huge capture and can sort out a defence that still leaks goals alarmingly  — the main reason they fear the drop.
The Leicester boss has looked at other targets like Odilon Kossounou at Bayer Leverkusen but an eye-catching loan for the United star would top that.

Maguire has also been linked with top-six clubs and there could be bids for the defender in the next window.
However, a loan deal may work for all parties, although United would look for a full salary to ease any financial pain for them.
Maguire will need to be playing at the best level he can next season in the build-up to  Euro 2024 for England.
He played two full games as the Three Lions launched their qualifying campaign last week with a 2-1 win in Italy and 2-0 Wembley success over Ukraine.

And Maguire has also defended his club form – having not lost a match he’s started a 1-0 home loss to Real Sociedad in the Europa League on September 8.
He said: “Obviously this season, I haven’t played as much as I’d like but, for my club, I feel like my form’s been good this year.
“I know people obviously look at me not playing but when I’ve played I think in my last eight or nine starts for Manchester United we have won.
“I can’t remember losing a game for Manchester United, it must be the third week of the season. So my influence is still there.” More

Ten Hag, 53, would also get a £3m-a-year pay hike – and the uncertainty over United’s ownership will NOT affect the offer.
He has indicated that he is keen on the three-year extension to the deal he signed when he arrived from Ajax last summer.
United appointed him on a shorter term contract than previous managers, after having their fingers burned in the past with hefty pay-offs.
Yet Ten Hag has created a huge impression in just over half a season.

Sir Alex Ferguson is also said to be a huge admirer.
He has already established United in the top four and won the Carabao Cup.
They are favourites to win the Europa League and face Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Ten Hag had talks with Old Trafford executives recently about summer business.

Burnley line up £15m Man Utd-linked goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen for Premier League campaign in huge transfer coup

BURNLEY chief Vincent Kompany wants to snatch Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from his old club Anderlecht.Verbruggen, 20, looks one of the best prospects in Europe and the Clarets boss is back on his trail after attempting to bring the stopper with him to Turf Moor last summer.

Since then, the Bartman has enhanced his reputation by claiming the first-team spot at the Belgian side and also being called up by Holland for their Euro 2024 qualifiers against France and Gibraltar.
Liverpool are also very keen on Verbruggen — as we first revealed in February — but that would be as a long-term replacement for current Kop No 1 Alisson, with no guarantee of game time.
Kompany’s runaway Championship leaders could offer Premier League football and a step up the ladder immediately, which could be a huge temptation.
Anderlecht want around £15million for Verbruggen, which could turn out to be a shrewd investment.

Kompany’s former Manchester City team-mate Arijanet Muric has been the Clarets’ first choice stopper this term.
He has made 36 Championship appearances, keeping 16 clean sheets.
In addition to Burnley and Liverpool, Manchester United are reportedly interested in Verbruggen.
Belgian outlet HLN claim the Red Devils are weighing up a bid for Anderlecht’s 6ft 4in gloveman Verbruggen.

Since joining the Red Devils he has become a regular member of the side, appearing in nine games in all competitions, scoring one goal.
Sabitzer has left the door open to a permanent move to Old Trafford already since his arrival in January.
But fans are now fearing that a transfer could be scuppered by the former Chelsea manager.
One tweeted: “Damn! Tuchel is likely to spoil this deal for us.”

A second wrote: “The Tuchel hiring might change the situation a bit you know. I’d deffo take him any day of the week tho, esp for a small fee for such a great player.”
A third commented: “Tuchel will not let him leave the club or go cheaply if he doesn’t wants him.”
A fourth said: “He’s going back to Bayern with Tuchel in charge.”
While a fifth added: “I’m worried that he is a player that Tuchel could want to keep though.”

And a sixth declared: “Tuchel loves hardworking players. I sense he will offload Gravenberch and recall Sabitzer.”
Sabitzer’s deal with United does not include an option to buy and therefore, it will be up to Bayern and Tuchel to decide if he will be sold.
Under former manager Julian Nagelsmann, it had seemed that Sabitzer’s career at Bayern was over, but that could now change. More

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag gives go ahead for £88m Goncalo Ramos transfer… but move depends on who owner is

MANCHESTER UNITED are prepared to launch an £88million bid for Goncalo Ramos, reports suggest. However, the move will depend on who takes over the club.

The 21-year-old forward has been in electric form this season, scoring 24 goals and adding a further ten assists in all competitions.
Ramos shot to fame outside of Portugal after replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal team and scoring a hat-trick in the World Cup last 16 against Switzerland.
Spanish outlet AS report Erik Ten Hag has given the green light for United to sign him, although current club Benfica will not sell for any less than £88m.
Such a large fee will require big financial muscles, something United could boast depending on the outcome of their ongoing takeover battle.

Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Ineos owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the two frontrunners in the process.
But Sheikh Jassim’s group pack far more financial muscle than the Brit’s, already placing a world-record £5bn bid down to buy the club from current owners the Glazers.
Ten Hag has already spoken about the need to bring in more firepower in the summer, with the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen also linked with a transfer.
Regardless, he has called on five stars to score more goals to ease the burden on talisman Marcus Rashford, though omitted Weghorst from his list.

He said: “I think we have players like Bruno [Fernandes], like Jadon Sancho, like Anthony Martial, like Scott McTominay, like Antony dos Santos, we have enough players with the capabilities to score goals, definitely.
“What I said previously, I work in the back on next season [for transfers] but we’re working now on this season, so first of all make sure everyone is available and keep improving the way of play and that’s the best chance of scoring more goals.”
Other than Rashford, Fernandes is the only player in the United team to hit double figures this season.
United have been handed a boost by the return of Martial, with Ten Hag saying he can be in the squad to play in Sunday’s clash against Newcastle. More
