But he has successfully negotiated an extension for a further four years.
And the news will come as a good boost for manager Erik ten Hag as he continues to shape his squad for the long-term.
Shaw, 27, only signed a new contract in December.
That was when United triggered the option to add an extra 12 months to his deal.

But they have wasted no time in tying down the England full-back despite the uncertainty over the ownership of the club.
David De Gea and Marcus Rashford are also in ongoing talks over new deals, too.
Defender Shaw joined the Red Devils from Southampton in 2014 in a record £30million move.
However, injury troubles and fall-outs with previous managers, especially Jose Mourinho, limited his progression.

But he is now the first-choice left-back ahead of Tyrell Malacia – though Shaw has also filled in superbly at centre-back when required.
Ten Hag has also been impressed by his character and personality off the pitch and wants him to be part of the new era.
England boss Gareth Southgate is similarly pleased with Shaw and was delighted he stuck with the squad during the recent international break despite his red card in Italy ruling him out of the game against Ukraine.

Shaw has played 35 times for United across all competitions this season, including 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup final win – chipping in with one goal and six assists.
The Red Devils still have hopes of winning the FA Cup and Europa League while the main aim in the Premier League is to secure a top-four finish.
Ten Hag’s side face a hectic April with nine matches, starting with a trip to Newcastle on Sunday before facing Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals and going away to Tottenham. More

Chelsea and Man Utd set for Andre Onana transfer battle with swap deal touted as Inter Milan name price for keeper

Onana, 26, joined Inter on a free transfer from Ajax last summer.
The former Cameroon international, who was sent home from the World Cup for disciplinary reasons, has made 28 appearances in all competitions after battling Inter icon Samir Handanovic for the No1 jersey.
But Onana could soon be on the move to England, with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming Chelsea and United are interested.
The Blues are ready to sell Edouard Mendy this summer, and still harbour some doubts over Kepa Arrizabalaga’s capabilities as first-choice goalie.

As for United, they could lose David De Gea on a free transfer as both parties struggle to agree a new deal.
And Inter are thought to want £35million to sell Onana, who had an on-field fight with teammate Edin Dzeko last month.
However, Chelsea are ready to offer up several stars in exchange for a cheaper fee.
Romelu Lukaku is already at Inter on loan, and the Blues could pave the way for a second season by landing Onana.

Inter have also shown concrete interest in Trevoh Chalobah, who has dropped down the rankings under Graham Potter.
And the Italians also fancy the look of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang — ideally on a free transfer.
As a result, Chelsea are said to be edging United in the Onana race.
But the stopper played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax.
And that could sway things in United’s favour should they make a formal approach. More

He won the title eight times, two Champions Leagues and a host of other honours throughout his 20 years as a player for the club.
However, Neville has no doubts that one of his old colleagues is top of the lot when it comes to the greatest ever to grace the Premier League.
The 48-year-old took to Twitter to discuss the recent batch of nominees for the Premier League Hall of Fame, which he was named in.
One fan responded to him with: “Denis Irwin is criminally underrated, best full back since the Premier League began Gary or are we seeing this through red tinted glasses? I don’t think we are though.”

That led to Neville almost instantly replying: “Agree! Denis is the best full back in PL history! Fact.”
Another fan then hit back with: “Neville on a wind up. Irwin wouldn’t stand a chance under a Klopp or Pep…having to defend, attack, create and assist, sorry but none better than Robbo or Trent.”
To which Neville responded: “You didn’t watch him play then? Denis would play full back in any team of theirs! Left or Right! He didn’t give goals away, didn’t give the ball away, brilliant going forward and could take set pieces to the equal of most!”
Irish ace Irwin moved to United in 1990 and was undoubtedly one of Fergie’s greatest signings as he proved a snip at just £625,000 from Oldham.

In 12 years at Old Trafford, he made 296 Premier League appearances and won seven league titles, as well as two FA Cup winner’s medals, a League Cup and the Champions league and European Cup Winners’ Cup.

The now 57-year-old, who also won 56 caps for Ireland, left United for Wolves in 2002 and helped them to win promotion to the top-flight via the play-offs.
He retired from playing at the end of the following campaign having made 75 league appearances for the Molineux outfit. More

Eintracht Frankfurt chief breaks silence on Man Utd transfer target Randal Kolo Muani with warning message

He has scored 16 goals and produced 12 assists for Frankfurt this season following his arrival from Nantes in Ligue 1 at the start of the campaign.
This has also seen the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich join United in the transfer chase for his signature.
As we reported earlier this week, the Red Devils may have to fork out £105million to prise him away from Oliver Glasner’s Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, it seems that the Bundesliga side are determined to resist all big money offers and hold on to their star man.

Their director of football Markus Krosche told Sport1: “We have no intention of selling Kolo Muani now. The hype about him is understandable and normal.
“Another season with us would be good for Randal, we want to continue and not necessarily sell him.”
But Kolo Muani dropped his biggest hint yet that he may move in the summer during an interview last week.
He said: “We talk about it a lot already, but I try to be focused on my club.

“We continue our performances and we will see this summer. Afterwards, I always dreamed of playing in big clubs.”
His form this term led to a call-up from France for the World Cup in Qatar, a few short months after he made his international debut.
He made a strong impression in appearances off the bench in the semi-final and final.
Kolo Muani netted a killing blow in the semi-final victory over Morocco, while he picked up an assist in the final against Argentina.
However, he was denied the chance to win the World Cup when Emiliano Martinez saved his shot in extra time which later saw him subjected to vile racist abuse. More

Ahead of a proposed transfer to Man Utd in 2000, Van Nistelrooy said he was very excited to sign for the club before he received a phone call from United saying he was going to fail his medical.
Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet, he said: “My first attempt signing for Manchester United was the most anxious moment in my career.
“I did the whole medical in Manchester and we were driving up to Old Trafford to do the press conference to sign, and the phone rang.
“I was told by the orthopaedic surgeon from United who saw the MRI that my knee was not right, he said, ‘you have to turn around and go back to your hotel, you’re not going to pass a medical’.

“We turned the car around and I was seeing Old Trafford right in front of me.
“Once I got back to the hotel, the news already went out quickly to the press and there were photographers everywhere.
“The paparazzi were outside the room trying to get pictures and I had to close the curtains.
“I said, ‘what the freak is happening to me now’ – it felt like I was in a movie.

“They said they’ll call me in an hour and confirmed that I could not go through with the transfer, so I had to go back to PSV Eindhoven, and we kept on going with my training, then I collapsed.
“I messed my whole knee up and that was live on Sky, who was there.
“I did an exercise with heading the ball and twisted my knee. When you’re so close to something so huge that you’ve worked your whole life for, and it’s not happening, you feel the lowest.”
Van Nistelrooy would eventually complete his move to Old Trafford a year later in 2001 when his injury had improved.
The 46-year-old scored 150 goals across his five years in England.
Under Sir Alex Ferguson Van Nistelrooy won one Premier League title, an FA Cup and a League Cup while winning the club’s player of the year award in his first season. More

I wanted to be a legend at Man Utd but I was too affected by Van Gaal… I’m mad at myself

MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN has revealed his regret over his Manchester United career as he admitted he was “too affected” by former manager Louis van Gaal. The midfielder now plays his football in Australia for Western Sydney Wanderers on loan from Nice.

He had long been tipped for a brilliant career after impressing during a promising seven-year stay at Southampton where he enjoyed his “happiest years”.
But a dream move to Manchester United would fall apart within 18 months and his career has not fully recovered since.
Now 32, Schneiderlin has opened up on where it went wrong.
He told the Mail: “I know this time at Manchester United affected me for the longest period in my career.

“I was so frustrated I couldn’t give what I wanted. I had a period after at Everton when I didn’t lose the fire, but I lost a little bit inside me, I am not going to hide that. I should have managed it better.
“You work so hard to be at the top, top level. A lot of people were telling me I would be one of the top players in the world. I had the gut feeling that I had everything to be a top player in the world. Not being able to reach that level will stay with me forever.”
The Frenchman said he partially blamed Van Gaal, who was his boss during his first season at Old Trafford before he was replaced by Jose Mourinho.
Schneiderlin added: “I was too affected by what [manager] Louis van Gaal was asking from me. I lost me as a player. It was not me on the field.

“It was not just the manager’s fault, it was my fault, too. My role was not the one I had at Southampton. I felt restricted in my game. I felt they wanted to change things in me. I was not thinking as me, I was thinking about what pleased the coach.
“When you reach that point, every pass you make, everything you do, you don’t play free. Something stopped me from being who I was. I wanted so much to do well and it is one of the most frustrating things ever.”
Schneiderlin’s arrival in Manchester came in the first few post-Sir Alex Ferguson years as the football giant struggled to find their footing after their legendary manager’s departure.
The midfielder would then move to Everton in 2017 where he did briefly recover form under Ronald Koeman before eventually moving to Nice in 2020. More

“He moved to the first team very quickly and you could see straight away that he was on a level of his own.
“It took me a little while to adapt because I faced a lot of injuries in the first full season with the club, but I loved my time there; it’s where I learned to be a professional.” More
