Manchester United target twin signings from City rivals – with a family twist for technical director Darren Fletcher

SCOTLAND legend Darren Fletcher is targeting a transfer raid for Manchester United – to sign his TWIN BOYS.Midfielder Fletch is now technical director at Old Trafford, but his sons have come through the academy system at rivals City.
The Man Utd legend’s sons are highly ratedCredit: SNS
Fletcher was a Scotland captain – but his kids are eligible for EnglandCredit: Kenny Ramsay – The Sun Glasgow
They are approaching 17 next season – the age players can sign pro deals
Both Jack and Tyler are schoolboy internationals – and even faced one another in an Auld Enemy clash in February.
And while they could shift across town when eligible for pro terms, they could also unite for the national side with Tyler a target to join his sibling in the England camp.
But Fletcher’s role in this particular cross-city move is only as a supportive parent – despite his job.

The Athletic reports head of Academy Nick Cox is driving the deal and the Fletcher brothers ‘favoured taking their next step at United’ despite offers from a number of clubs on the table – including City.
It also ranks the pair as “among the most promising under-16 talents in the UK”.
Fletcher Senior was highly rated at that age himself.
Born in Dalkeith, he was swept south to United before he had reached his teens.
    Most read in Football
After signing pro terms with Sir Alex Ferguson aged 15 he went on to play more than 200 games over 12 years at the club.
He also picked up 80 Scotland caps and was made captain under Berti Vogts.
His boys were born south of the border but were initially called up by the SFA through their dad’s nationality.
England have also bid to include them in the Three Lions’ camps which led to the bizarre clash in February.
Tyler played for Scotland but Jack took the bragging rights with a 3-0 win for England.
They can still choose to switch but it’s not unusual for brothers to meet on the international scene – nor is it unusual for United players’ kids to grow up in the City system.
Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie did the same, while the likes of Jerome Boateng has faced his brother Kevin-Prince when Germany and Ghana met at the World Cup and Thiago Alcantara and Rafinha each opted for Spain and Brazil respectively.

And The Athletic say United asked City about a double deal last week.
The Manchester-born duo can’t turn pro until they are 17 next March.
But it’s claimed there’s already a queue of clubs looking to sign them.
They are said to favour United, where their ex-Scotland star dad is now technical director.

Like Fletcher senior, his sons are central midfielders.
So far they’ve progressed up the ranks with City.
In contrast, their 80-cap father Darren, 39, won the Premier League five times in 12 years with first club United and the Champions League in 2008.
One difference, though, is the choice his sons are making internationally.

Jack has opted for England Under-16s, with Tyler picking Scotland.

Exact date Mason Greenwood’s future with Man United has to be decided by as club probe suspended star

MANCHESTER UNITED have until September 2024 to make a decision on Mason Greenwood’s future.United released seven players today but retained Greenwood, who has not played for the club since January 2022.

And because the forward is still an Under-21 player, United could include him in their squad at any time in the next 14 months without having to register him.
Had he been over that age, the club would have needed to decide before the end of the transfer window whether to include him in the senior squad or sideline him for at least another five months when it opens again in January.
Premier League clubs must submit a 25-man squad after each transfer window closes.
It can contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil ‘home grown player’ criteria.

The remainder of the squad must be home grown – a player who has been registered with a club for three seasons before turning 21.
U21 players do not need to be registered in a Premier League squad.
It comes as Women’s Aid said the Premier League should do more to fight domestic violence in light of Greenwood’s suspension.
Greenwood, who was born on October 1, 2001, was suspended by United after being charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges on February 2 after key witnesses withdrew their involvement in the case.
He remains suspended pending an internal probe at Manchester United but is still a contracted player.
The investigation revolves around whether he brought the club into disrepute and was in breach of his contract.
Greenwood, who is expecting a child with his partner, has spent 19 weeks waiting for a decision on the probe.
SunSport exclusively revealed Juventus want to offer Greenwood a fresh start in Italy.
He has also been linked with a loan move to Turkey or Spain.
Greenwood has two years left on his £75,000-a-week Old Trafford deal. More

Man Utd offered Benfica star Goncalo Ramos as cheaper Harry Kane alternative to solve striker dilemma

United boss Erik ten Hag is on the lookout for more firepower next season to give Marcus Rashford – who scored a total of 30 goals last year – some competition.
The Red Devil’s chances of landing Kane, 30, from Spurs are dead in the water, with chairman Daniel Levy unwilling to do business for less than £100m.
A client of Mendes, 21-year-old Ramos could fit the bill at Old Trafford instead, having netted 25 times for club and country this term.
Ramos also made his name at the Qatar World Cup for Portugal, bagging a hat-trick against Switzerland in the Last 16 having replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up.

However, Benfica will not accept anything less than £80m – following on from selling Darwin Nunez to Liverpool last summer for £85m.
Mendes is working hard to get his player a Premier League switch, with United the priority, but the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa and Tottenham have also been approached.
Spurs could be in the market for a striker should Kane depart, yet this appears unlikely right now – with Real Madrid the only potential destination.
Real’s £115m splash-out on England starlet Jude Bellingham will limit their spending power for the rest of this window, thus being priced out of a move for the England captain.

New Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for Kane to stay and continue his successful partnership with Son Heung-min, with Richarlison also in the ranks up top.
The star striker amassed a total of 32 goals and five assists in 49 appearances last season.
If the forward doesn’t pen a new contract and stays put at Tottenham then he will be free to sign with an overseas club for free in January. More
