‘Devastated’ Mason Greenwood ‘doesn’t know which way to turn’ after being dumped by Man Utd

MASON Greenwood has been left “devastated” by Manchester United’s decision to dump him – which has left him mulling over an offer from a club in Albania. The forward, 21, and his family had expected to return to the Red Devils after club officials indicated they were willing to give him a second chance.

But following a public backlash the club announced on Monday he would not play for United again.
His hopes of re-starting his career at a high level club have also been dealt a blow after officials from Italian Serie A side Roma and the Saudi Premier League indicated they were no longer interested in signing the Prem star.
Following his suspension by United after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive controlling behaviour were dropped in February, at least two Premier League clubs made enquiries about signing him on loan.
But those clubs are now re-thinking their plans as they consider whether any public backlash they are likely to receive if they sign him is worth it.

Championship clubs are also believed to be monitoring the situation, but are worried they too would be unable to handle the PR situation.
So at the moment, the only side who are reportedly interested is an unnamed team in Albania.
The Sun understands the backlash has been so severe that Greenwood – who became a dad in July – has been left “devastated” and fearing for the future of his career.
A source said: “Mason always wanted to re-start his career at the highest level possible.

“He hoped and believed it would be with United.
“The strength of feeling has now left him worried if he will ever play in the top leagues again.
“Playing in somewhere like Albania was never part of his plans, ever.”
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 after disturbing images were placed on social media.
But his court case was halted after key witnesses withdrew their evidence.
United CEO Richard Arnold said this week that a five month club investigation had concluded that Greenwood did not commit any criminal offences, but that he needed to leave Old Trafford for the good of his career.

Reports that United were planning to retain him following an internal investigation were met with public outcry.
The club announced on Monday that it had been mutually agreed for the 21-year-old to leave.
Now several sources have said “immature” Greenwood may never play again when he leaves Old Trafford.
“I don’t think he is equipped to come back from this,” a source told MailOnline.
    Read more Sport News
They continued: “There are players who would be able to think: ‘I have been cleared so stuff you’. They would just get on and score goals for someone.
“Mason is not one of those. He’s immature. I really think he’s finished.”
Another source added: “Not even Fergie could have saved him. I think Mason Greenwood was lost from the very start.”
Other sources described Greenwood as “stand-offish”, “aloof” and “monosyllabic”.

Meanwhile a driver for high-profile footballers said they attempted to start a conversation with him only to be told to “just drive”.
One football figure said he wasn’t “wired like everybody else” and compared him to Paul Gascoigne.
It comes as talkSport reported Greenwood could be welcome at a new club abroad – but in the relative footballing backwater of Albania.
An unnamed side in the Balkan Peninsula nation are said to have expressed interest in the striker.
Greenwood’s last United appearance was in a 1-0 Premier League win against West Ham United on January 22 last year.
The player born in Bradford in West Yorkshire has been at United since age six and hit 35 goals in 129 matches for the club.
He was given an England debut – and solitary cap – by manager Gareth Southgate in September 2020, as a late sub against Iceland. More

Fury as Man Utd did not complete sexual consent training amid Mason Greenwood saga

PREMIER League clubs including Man Utd failed to complete sexual consent training amid the Mason Greenwood saga.Top-tier chiefs made the “safeguarding and healthy relationships training” a requirement for all clubs ahead of the 2022/23 season.

But Utd were one of a number of teams who did not offer the training to first team players despite Greenwood’s arrest.
Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive control but the case was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February.
It is understood the striker, who is not returning to Old Trafford, was offered the training along with other academy players.
But there were no clear guidelines provided by the Premier League on whether it was mandatory or not.
    Read more news
As a result, around half of the 20 teams in the League last season did not complete the training, Tortois reports.
Premier League bosses will reportedly not be taking action against those clubs including Utd.
But the guidelines have been cleared up this season, meaning teams will be penalised if it is not completed.
A spokesperson for Utd told The Sun Online: “We take seriously our responsibilities to provide all mandatory training and education to our players, whether in our academy or first teams.
    Most read in Football
“Sexual consent training has been provided to our academy players for many years, and it was already in our plans to be introduced to first team players this year, in line with new Premier League requirements.”
The face-to-face sessions are delivered to players, coaches and officials by qualified specialists in safeguarding concerns and sexual misconduct.
The move to include senior players and management was announced two years ago after increased pressure from women’s groups.
Until then, the Premier League only ran workshops for academy and first-team players from under-14s to under-23s.
Content includes sexual relationships, seeking consent, and understanding sexual harassment and bullying.
Teresa Parker from Women’s Aid said: “It is vital that all football teams have training on consent, and that guidelines are clear on what training needs to include, and also clear on the quality of the training expected.
“It is crucial that this training is not a tick-box exercise for players, but something that resonates with players and works with the club and its values. For this reason, it is also important to do evaluation with clubs, and to find out what is most effective.
“From speaking to clubs, and piloting workshops, I know that sometimes a recommended training provider is the right approach, but for others they develop something in house – and when this happens working with experts is really important, even if they are not the ones who will be delivering the training.
“I have seen the impact of effective training on young players, and know how important it is and the difference it makes.”
Utd announced on Monday that Greenwood would not be returning to the club after a dramatic 72-hour U-turn.
In a statement, they he would be leaving in what was branded a “collaborative decision”.
Yet it remains unclear whether Greenwood’s £75,000-a-week contract would be terminated or if he would be sold or sent out on loan.
United risk losing millions if Greenwood doesn’t find a move elsewhere before the transfer window closes this time next week.
Greenwood joined Utd aged just seven and rose through the ranks to land himself a regular spot on the first team.
In 2019, he became the youngest footballer to play for United in the Champions League when he took to the pitch aged 17.
The striker has made 129 appearances in total for the Red Devils and netted 35 goals.

It’s reported that the 28-year-old has suffered a muscular injury.
Assessment is ongoing but there are fears that Shaw will be out for some time.
In a statement, Manchester United confirmed that he would miss “a number of weeks”.
Shaw has started both of Manchester United’s matches so far this season.

The Red Devils have looked lacklustre in a 1-0 win over Wolves and then a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham – and this news will not improve matters.
Ten Hag is currently preparing his side to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
They then play Arsenal before the Premier League pauses for an international break.
Shaw could have expected to be a part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the games against Ukraine and Scotland.

The former Southampton youngster has been blighted with injuries during his career, although last term he missed just three games because of injury.
In 2021/22 he missed 18 games because of multiple issues, and missed the same number of matches the year before that.
Manchester United allowed one of Shaw’s understudies, Brandon Williams, to go on loan to Ipswich earlier this week.
The news comes in the same week that Mason Mount also suffered an injury.
The summer signing is out until at least the international break, and potentially longer.
In more positive news, fellow new arrival Rasmus Hojlund could make his debut this weekend having arrived at the club injured. More

Now ANOTHER foreign team is interested in signing Mason Greenwood after player was dumped by Man Utd

ANOTHER foreign team is showing interest in offering Manchester United exile Mason Greenwood an escape after being dumped.A potential new move abroad is being lined up for the former England striker after the decision to let him leave Old Trafford.
Mason Greenwood reportedly has a new transfer option overseas in EuropeCredit: PA
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has rejected talk of a move to his Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq.
And ex-Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has ruled out a reunion with him at Serie A side AS Roma in Italy.
Yet Greenwood could be welcome at a new club abroad – but in the relative footballing backwater of Albania, talkSport reports.
An unnamed side in the Balkan Peninsula nation are said to have expressed interest in the 21-year-old striker.

Albania’s international team first qualified for a major tournament when reaching the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France.
Greenwood has been absent from Premier League club United’s first team since being arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, assault and coercive control in January last year.
All charges against him were dropped in February but he has remained suspended by the Red Devils.
An announcement by United on Monday revealed Greenwood would be leaving the club in what they called a “collaborative decision”.

Yet it remained unclear whether his £75,000-a-week contract would be terminated or if he would be sold or sent out on loan.
The player issued a statement admitting he’d “made mistakes”.
United risk losing millions if Greenwood doesn’t find a move elsewhere before the transfer window closes this time next week.
If he remains on their books they club could have to pay him a hefty fee to cancel his contract which is only due to expire in 2025.
Yet they could be reprieved if a Saudi club opts for the player because their league’s window extends until September 20.
New recruits to the Saudi league include Greenwood’s ex-United colleague Cristiano Ronaldo, Brazilian striker Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid’s France forward Karim Benzema.

    AL-ETTIFAQ MOVE ‘FAKE NEWS’
Al-Ettifaq swooped for England vice-captain and midfielder Jordan Henderson, joining from Liverpool for wages of £700,000 per week.
Yet former Three Lions skipper Gerrard, who took over at Al-Ettifaq last month, posted an Instagram story on Tuesday dismissing speculation about a move for Greenwood “fake news”.
Other clubs linked with the player have included Galatasaray and Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.
United’s decision to go separate ways with Greenwood was welcomed by former England and United right-back Gary Neville.
Yet the club’s handling of situation was also labelled “horrible” by the ex-defender who now works as a Sky Sports pundit.
Greenwood’s Old Trafford exit was described as “inevitable and right” by the BBC’s Match Of The Day presenter and ex-England captain Gary Lineker.
But football clubs more widely were urged by women’s charities to do better when dealing with such allegations.
Lifelong United fan Rachel Riley last week said she would no longer support United if they let Greenwood come back.
The Channel 4’s Countdown co-host and Strictly Come Dancing contestant later welcomed his departure but accused United of having “handled this appallingly”.
Greenwood’s last United appearance was in a 1-0 Premier League win against West Ham United on January 22 last year.
He was charged in October last year by the Crown Prosecution Service and was due to go on trial this November.
But the case was withdrawn on February 2 after his alleged victim as well as 12 further witnesses declined to co-operate.

The Red Devils have long been linked with a move for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.
But now priorities have shifted towards finding a new striker to replace Greenwood.
Club chiefs decided to let Greenwood continue his career elsewhere, following an investigation into his behaviour after his January 2022 arrest.
And it looks like Erik ten Hag’s side have now identified Marcos Leonardo as an ideal replacement.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United are planning to swoop in and steal Leonardo from Roma.
The talented attacker was recently in talks to join the Serie A club on a permanent deal from Santos.
However, the Brazilian side opposed the transfer as they battle to avoid relegation.
But Roma – who are managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho – have been working on an agreement for Leonardo’s move to become official in January 2024.

At just 20 years old, Leonardo is already approaching 50 senior goals for Santos. He also has 15 goals in just 13 games for Brazil U20s.
The report claims the Red Devils are ready to submit a higher bid than Roma’s, made up of a £17m fixed fee plus £4.2m in add-ons.

However, United also need to raise funds to meet Financial Fair Play regulations having spent almost £370m under Ten Hag.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Amrabat since last year’s World Cup.
The midfielder impressed as one of Morocco’s key man during their historic run to the semi-finals.
But talks stalled due to United’s need to sell players in order to fund the deal. More

But when news of that prospect leaked out, the backlash forced a U-turn from the club.
On Monday, they announced it was best for all parties that Greenwood continued his career away from Old Trafford.
So Ten Hag gathered his squad together yesterday to explain the reasons behind the decision.
The Dutchman also welcomed any feedback from the players.

The Red Devils completed their own internal investigation, which concluded Greenwood had not committed any of the crimes he was initially charged with.

But the stench of the case would not go away and United found the position untenable.
Greenwood has been left disappointed by the change in stance having been training in preparation for his return.
And the new dad is now in limbo as he does not fancy a move abroad — but so far there has been no interest from any clubs in England.
The situation is one the new owners will have to resolve, with Sheikh Jassim’s takeover growing ever closer.
