The former striker was scouted by Ferguson’s ex-assistant Carlos Queiroz but failed to live up to expectations.
Sir Alex said in January 2008: “He is a tall, agile, quick forward and through contacts that Carlos has, was brought to our attention around six months ago.”
However, Manucho never managed to live up to the required standards at Old Trafford.
The former Angola international amassed a mere three appearances, only one of which was at the Premier League against Stoke.

The now 40-year-old registered one assist that helped the Red Devils beat the Potters 5-0 before being shipped out on loan to build up match fitness.
Manucho initially joined Panathinaikos before moving to Hull but failed to stand out for both teams.
That ultimately led to his dismissal from United just a year after putting pen to paper with Sir Alex’s side.
The Angolan took off on the same summer that saw Ronaldo signing with Real Madrid and embarking on a legendary career.

Manucho moved to Real Valladolid where he underwent two more loan stints to Bucaspor and Maniaspor in Turkey.
But those two loan stints paid off as he became a regular at Valladolid where he registered 104 appearances.
That led to a move to Rayo Vallecano in 2014 where he played a whopping 119 times.
Manucho spent four years at Vallecano and then signed for Spanish third-tier side Cornella before rolling credits on his career in 2019. More

And they did so in front of United officials, Lisbon-based paper A Bola report.
It is claimed no player in particular were on the scout’s radar.
But officials were said to be there spying ahead of the January transfer window.
Erik ten Hag’s side were heavily linked with Porto keeper Diogo Costa as they looked to replace David de Gea in the summer.

But they ultimately ended up signing Andre Onana for £47million from Inter Milan instead.
So it could be unlikely that they were keeping tabs on Costa.
United have suffered injuries at left-back this season with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out injured.
They signed Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham as cover but it is possible United were scouting Porto’s Wendell.

Another Porto player in-demand is striker Mehdi Taremi, who has been linked with Chelsea, Tottenham and United in the past.
Taremi – who scored against England during the winter World Cup – has two goals in his seven games so far this season.
United did add to their firing line in the summer with the £72m signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

Erik ten Hag allegedly launched another attempt to sign him in June, but talks collapsed shortly before he signed a one-year contract extension with Juventus.
United are now eyeing a potential January deal, but they face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Magpies want to sign Rabiot as part of their efforts to strengthen their presence in Europe.
However, Massimiliano Allegri wants to tie him down to a new contract.

Rabiot, 28, joined Juventus in a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and has since made 181 appearances.
The midfielder scored 11 goals and provided six assists last season after experiencing a resurgence under Allegri.
And he believes he should’ve received a Ballon d’Or nomination for his efforts.
He told L’Equipe: “I can’t deny that it hurts because I had an important season.

“Then, seeing some other names, I think it was not logical. Sometimes two good Champions League games are enough, but those deciding do not consider the entire season.”
Man Utd boss Ten Hag spent over £180million this summer in a bid to improve his squad.
Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans all signed permanent deals before deadline day, while Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat joined on loan.
However, the Red Devils have endured a poor start to the season with three wins and three defeats in six games. More

Speaking earlier this week, Solskjaer rounded on the players he thinks caused his reign at Old Trafford to implode in November 2021.
The Norwegian, who wants a return to management, said: “Some weren’t as good as their own perception of themselves.
“I won’t name names but I was very disappointed when a couple turned down the chance to be captain.

Solskjaer took charge as caretaker at Old Trafford in December 2018 before he was offered the job on a permanent basis in March 2019.
At the time, Antonio Valencia was skipper.
When the Ecuadorian left the club at the end of the 2018-19 season, the armband went to England full-back Ashley Young.
But Young departed just six months later to join Inter Milan — and Solskjaer appointed Harry Maguire as captain.

Burnley 0 Man Utd 1: Jonny Evans turns into Belfast Pirlo as Bruno Fernandes seals huge Red Devils win against Clarets

WHEN ERIK TEN HAG asked Jonny Evans to roll back the years, he surely wasn’t expecting The Belfast Pirlo. But it was Manchester United’s fifth-choice centre half, 35 years young, whose sumptuous pass set up Bruno Fernandes to score a brilliant captain’s goal just when his team needed it most.

Injury-hit United’s second string had been second best to a vibrant Burnley side for most of the first half until that moment of magic.
Squint your eyes, and it could have been a moment from Evans’ first spell at the club, when Wayne Rooney picked out Robin Van Persie and the Dutchman volleyed home.
That was in United’s last title-winning campaign of 2012/3 and there remains little to suggest they will be ending that wait this year or anytime soon.
But this victory at least stopped the rot that was threatening to set in at Old Trafford.

After three defeats in a row, everything was in place for another horrible evening for United.
In front of a goalkeeper, Andre Onana, who had chucked one in in his previous game, Ten Hag was forced by injuries to send out a defence for which makeshift would be a very polite word.
In front of them was a thirtysomething Brazilian, Casemiro, wearing gloves in late September, alongside another midfielder who had started the season as fourth choice, Scott McTominay.
Add in two young players making only their second Premier League starts for the club, Hannibal Mejbri and Rasmus Hojlund, and you had a team there for the taking.

It could have been a starry, starry night for Vincent Kompany and his struggling side.
But for all their good intentions and fine football, they could not find a goal, let alone one of the quality that Evans created and Fernandes scored.
They find themselves bottom of the league, while Ten Hag’s side can now look upwards.
The last time Evans started a game for United., it was March 2015.
United had been champions less than two years earlier, Brexit was still just a glint in the eye of David Cameron’s pet pig, and all was well with the world.
United won that game 1-0 at Newcastle, courtesy of an 89th-minute winner by Ashley Young, but it turned out Evans had blotted his clean sheet.
He and Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse were subsequently charged with spitting at each other. Despite his claims of innocence, Evans was banned for six games, while Cisse copped a seven-match suspension.
The Northern Ireland legend made one more sub appearance for United and must have thought it would be his last as he headed off to West Brom that summer.

But circumstances and injuries conspired to bring him back to Old Trafford eight years later, and here he was, playing in the dodgiest-looking defence the club can have fielded for many a year.
Burnley centre forward Lyle Foster must have been kicking himself – or elbowing himself – for the silly sending off against Nottingham Forest that had cost him the chance to try his luck against that back four.
The first of the action was at the other end, though. Marcus Rashford fired into the side netting inside 45 seconds, then played in Fernandes for a shot that required a smart stop by James Trafford.
But it wasn’t as good as the save that Onana soon had to produce, throwing himself to his right to keep out Zeki Amdouni’s header.
Burnley grew in confidence and some in the home crowd thought they had taken the lead when they sliced through United with two passes. But their cheers stuck in their throats as Amdouni’s shot beat Onana but came back off his left-hand post.
Then it was the United fans’ turn for disappointment. From their first corner, Evans headed home Sergio Reguilon’s delivery but VAR spotted Rasmus Hojlund was offside and impeding Trafford. Referee Tony Harrington agreed after having a look on the monitor.
While United were mostly disjointed and ponderous, Burnley played and passed with poise and purpose. The impressive Aaron Ramsey stung Onana’s hands, but the home side were otherwise unable to carve out a clear-cut opening from all their neat approach work.
And then came Fernandes’ sucker-punch. Evans’ high, diagonal pass was superb and Fernandes’ perfect right-foot volley gave it the finish it deserved.
United, unsurprisingly, started the second half on the front foot and someone should have got on the end of Diogo Dalot’s fizzing cross.
Burnley were not hitting the heights of the opening period and would have fallen further behind if the excellent Ameen Al-Dakhil had not diverted the ball away from a loitering Hojlund.
United were at last showing some of the quality and intelligence that you would expect from a side competing in the Champions League when up against a team newly-promoted from the Championship.
Burnley kept going and after Onana blocked substitute Jacob Larsen’s effort, there was Evans to stop Jay Rodriguez forcing home the rebound.

Sander Berge headed over a later corner but the defence marshalled by Evans helf firm.
That kind of contribution was what Ten Hag had in mind. But right now, the Dutchman will take inspiration from wherever he can find it.

And now Martinez adds to the list of woes in United’s backline with Jonny Evans coming in as a replacement.
It had fans fearing ahead of their trip to Turf Moor and the season ahead as one said: “Just give Burnley the 3 points.”
Another added: “We can as well start the tears now.”
One fumed: “”This lineup stinks!! What is Erik Teg hag doing?”

Sergio Reguilon slotted in at left-back with Diogo Dalot on the right with Victor Lindelof pairing Evans.
Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Hannibal Mejbri made up a three-man midfield allowing Bruno Fernandes to push further afield.
It comes with summer signings Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat both out injured but Raphael Varane did return to the bench.

Speaking before the game about his injury crisis, Ten Hag said: “Maybe, as you say, Harry Maguire – We will see better after training.
“But Varane will train and we will see. Amrabat, he will train and we will see. Mount, as well, but they all didn’t play for a short or longer term.
