Man Utd handed unexpected boost as Thomas Tuchel WON’T be in Bayern Munich dugout – and they have rivals to thank

MANCHESTER UNITED can thanks neighbours City for a surprise boost for Wednesday’s Champions League clash at Bayern Munich.Home boss Thomas Tuchel will serve a one-match dugout ban for a red card against Pep Guardiola’s men in last year’s quarter-finals.

United might need any help they can get against Harry Kane and Co.
And that includes the absence of Tuchel’s animated antics pitch-side.
The ex-Chelsea chief lost his cool in the second leg against Man City at the Allianz Arena in April.
Tuchel was restrained by a Bayern assistant as he protested over a challenge by Aymeric Laporte on Kingsley Coman in the dying minutes.

But the German continued his complaints and referee Clement Turpin sent him to the stands.
Tuchel was no doubt frustrated as Bayern were being held at 1-1, which was the final score, meaning a 4-1 exit on aggregate.
City, of course, went on to win the Treble.
In contrast, Erik ten Hag’s United go to the same venue after three defeats in their opening five Premier League games.

Ex-Tottenham striker Kane seems certain to line up against the Red Devils after four goals in four unbeaten Bundesliga matches for Bayern.
That makes a hamstring injury for United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka that rules him out for a “few weeks” even more of a problem for Ten Hag.
But midfield loanee Sofyan Amrabat is eyeing his Red Devils debut. More

That home thumping comes after a tough time as he deals with off field and on field issues at the club.
However, speaking after the game he assured fans the club is NOT in a crisis.
He also called on the players to step up and turn their early season fortunes around.
But that loss made in three defeats in their opening five games – the first time United have started this poorly in the Premier League’s history.
That’s forced Betfair to act and slash the odds of Ten Hag quitting this year, while also revealing their list of most likely replacements.
And previous favourite for the job, Zinedine Zidane leads the betting as the 4/1 market leader to replace him.
Potential Man Utd replacementsShould Erik Ten Hag leave

    Zinedine Zidane: 4/1
    Julian Nagelsmann: 11/2
    Roberto De Zerbi: 15/2
    Michael Carrick: 9/1
    Graham Potter: 10/1
    Mauricio Pochettino: 14/1
    Antonio Conte: 16/1
    Brendan Rodgers: 16/1

He’s been out of the management game since leaving Real Madrid for a second time at the end of the 20/21 campaign.
Julian Nagelsmann (11/2) is next with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi third favourite (15/2).
Club legend Michael Carrick (9/1) and Graham Potter (10/1) are two others potentially in contention.
While Mauricio Pochettino (14/1) has been long-linked with the United hot-seat and could be looking for a way out of Chelsea after his own rotten start.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Erik ten Hag is 2/1 to leave Man United by Christmas following his side’s 3-1 loss to Brighton. The Red Devils’ defeat is the latest of a number of casualties at the club.
“Zinedine Zidane is the 4/1 favourite to become Ten Hag’s successor, while Julian Nagelsmann (11/2), Roberto de Zerbi (15/2) and Michael Carrick (9/1) are the outsiders to take over.”

Getafe boss forced into embarrassing U-turn over Mason Greenwood after Jude Bellingham comments

GETAFE’S manager has U-turned on his claim that Jude Bellingham advised Mason Greenwood to move to Spain.Manchester United outcast Greenwood made his Getafe loan debut on Sunday, three months after former England team-mate Bellingham joined Real Madrid.

Getafe chief Jose Bordalas says Greenwood and Bellingham both ‘clarified’ the situation to himCredit: AP
And Jose Bordalas now admits he was wrong to suggest a key role in the striker’s move was played by the new Bernabeu hero.
Greenwood received a mostly positive reception when he came on after 77 minutes at home to Osasuna.
Visiting supporters, however, appeared to jeer him.
And according to The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai, they also chanted “Greenwood die”.

But having come on at 2-2, it was Greenwood’s shot that earned a corner from which Serbia midfielder Nemanja Maksimovic hit Getafe’s winner.
And afterwards Bordalas revealed Bellingham, 20, and his old Three Lions’ colleague have both put him right over the hitman’s transfer.
The Spaniard stated: “I had said that Mason Greenwood came to Getafe because he had spoken with Jude Bellingham.
“They have clarified to me it was not the case.”
    Most read in Football
That’s a reversal of what the 59-year-old told Spanish sports station RadioMarca earlier in the week.
Speaking of his joy at the transfer, Bordalas said then: “It was a surprise, we never thought we could get a player like that.
“But they got in touch with our sporting director [Ruben Reyes], we talked, we didn’t think it could happen but both sides made an effort [financially].
New Real hero Bellingham was an England team-mate of GreenwoodCredit: Rex
“Greenwood is friends with Bellingham, and he advised him to come to the Spanish league.”
Before Sunday, the Red Devils academy product had not played since January 2022, when he started United’s 1-0 home win over West Ham.
The club suspended Greenwood after he was arrested later that year.
He was charged with a string of offences including attempted rape. However, the CPS dropped the charges in February 2023.
United’s internal investigation into Greenwood finished in August with the club concluding that he would not play for them.

The statement said: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.
“It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.” More

Mason Greenwood targeted with ‘die’ chants during Getafe debut on loan from Man Utd as Osasuna faces punishment

MASON Greenwood was met with football fans chanting “die” during his debut with Spanish La Liga side Getafe. His new team took a 3-2 victory over Osasuna on Sunday – but fans were less than happy with the new player.
Greenwood today played his first match for Getafe
Greenwood made a late debut as a sub for Getafe
It is the first time Greenwood has played in 20 months, with his last game coming for Manchester United against West Ham in January 2022.
The winger was then suspended by United after being arrested on suspicion of rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
In February this year, the CPS dropped all criminal charges against Greenwood after “the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light”.
United’s internal investigation into Greenwood finished in August with the club concluding that he would not play for them.
    MORE ON GREENWOOD
And today he played his first game while out on loan from the Red Devils to Getafe.
As he ran out on the pitch in the 77th a section of the away support in the stadium chanted “Greenwood, die”.
Osasuna coach Jogoba Arrasate has slammed his fan’s for the taunts.
He told The Athletic: “The chants of ‘Fuck Osasuna’ were very bad and the chants against Greenwood were very bad too.
    Most read in Football
“He is a player who, in the end, the justice system had its say.
“He is a very good player. But if we talk about chants, we should talk about all the chants, not just some.”
Greenwood’s next opportunity to play will come next Sunday when Getafe travel to the Basque country to take on Real Sociedad.
It comes after Greenwood’s girlfriend was reportedly out with Getafe Wags as the couple settle in to Spanish life.
Greenwood and his family are said to have dined with the club’s president, while a translator is also available on request, MailOnline reports.
The striker’s girlfriend Harriet Robson has also been welcomed by Wags and has visited Madrid’s shopping districts.
It is unclear whether she will live in Spain with him or regularly visit with their baby.
Greenwood is understood to be living with his dad while a search for a property in Boadilla del Monte is ongoing.
The quiet and affluent town is located to the west of the Spanish capital. More

Erik ten Hag hails Man Utd fans’ booing of Anthony Martial as ‘a positive’ in bizarre post-match interview

BOSS Erik ten Hag astonishingly claimed booing by disgruntled Manchester United fans was a “positive”.Crisis-hit United have lost three of their opening five Prem games for the first time after being embarrassed by Brighton.

New Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund will be boosted by the response from fans when he went off, manager Erik ten Hag claimedCredit: Getty
Deafening jeers rang out around Old Trafford as the Dutchman replaced Rasmus Hojlund with flop Anthony Martial after 64 minutes.
Bafflingly, Ten Hag said: “It was positive. You see the fans in the first moment in Old Trafford, the reception for Hojlund was great.
“He performed very well. It’s good they give this signal, this message, it will give Rasmus belief.”
Danish striker Hojlund arrived in a £72million deal from Atalanta last month with a stress fracture of the back.

And Ten Hag blamed the injury for the 20-year-old’s early removal after one of United’s few sparks had a goal disallowed.
Ten Hag added: “Everyone knows he came in with a small issue.
“We built him up over the last three or four weeks, he is not ready for a whole game.”
Martial, 27, has scored just 11 goals in his last 55 Prem games but Ten Hag refuted suggestions the boos were targeted at the Frenchman’s introduction.

He claimed: “It was because Hojlund came off but I don’t want to discuss that, so I don’t know.
“But Anthony Martial, last year, every time he played he had a very positive effect on our games.
“We almost lost no games with Anthony on the pitch.
“When he is fit he will definitely contribute. At this moment, he is not top fit.”
Goals from United old boy Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro gave the Seagulls a convincing victory.
But despite his team being outplayed, Ten Hag had rose-coloured glasses on United’s performance.
He added: “We played well. You analyse that first half, we started well, we created chances.”
But the boss accepts results are a concern.

Ten Hag said: “Definitely, that bothers me. We have to be disappointed and annoyed because at United the demand is you win games.
“We have to see how the team sticks together and which players stand up and lead.”
Brighton are  fourth in the table and boss Roberto De Zerbi said: “Football is nice because the small team can win in every moment.

“But it is not a surprise. The quality of the players of Brighton is very high and the organisation.
“I don’t know the problems of Manchester United but we are used to working in our style, we are playing with courage.” More

Man Utd in three-way transfer battle with Arsenal and Liverpool for Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Oscar Gloukh

And it appeared he impressed, scoring the equaliser against Romania to boost his country’s chances of qualifying for Euro 2024.
Attacking midfielder Gloukh played against England in this summer’s European Under-21 Championship and was a standout.
Previously, he had played against a Three Lions youth team in the Euro 2019 final – finding the net with a brilliant strike.
He joined Red Bull Salzburg from Maccabi Tel Aviv for £6million in January.

The youngster has already scored three goals in 24 games for the Austrian side.

It was reported that the Catalans were very close to signing the youngster, but their interest came after Salzburg had already agreed a deal.
He said: “I was very excited that (Barcelona) wanted me, but they were late for the bidding and came back when we had already closed the Salzburg deal.

Shock Man Utd star wanted by Bayern Munich as Joao Palhinha transfer falls through

SCOTT McTOMINAY is Bayern Munich’s back-up plan if they fail to land Joao Palhinha in the January window.Fulham ace Palhinha signed a contract extension last week after his summer move to the German giants collapsed at the last minute.

The 28-year-old Portuguese passed a Bayern medical and was set to sign on deadline day.
But the West Londoners pulled the plug on the move because they could not secure a suitable replacement.
That was partly because Manchester United midfielder McTominay, who started in their 3-1 Old Trafford defeat to Brighton yesterday (above), was reluctant to move to Craven Cottage.
And now Bundesliga champions Bayern are considering cutting out the middle man and moving for the 26-year-old, who has 40 caps and six goals for Scotland.

However, their pursuit of Palhinha is not over.
The highly-rated 22-cap Portugal international’s new deal gave him a hefty pay rise and added another year to his contract — without inserting a release clause.
But in reality that makes little difference to the £50million-plus fee Marco Silva’s Cottagers would demand if Bayern or anyone else came calling in the New Year for their star man.
