Man Utd fans in meltdown after learning how Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25% takeover will affect January transfer plans

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left raging after finding out Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent takeover of the club will NOT have an impact on their transfer spending.Sheikh Jassim’s withdrawal of his £5billion bid for complete control of the Red Devils appears to have paved the way for British billionaire Ratcliffe, 70, to purchase a minority stake at Old Trafford.

The deal will leave the Glazers in charge of the club – an unpopular move among Man Utd supporters.
And they have been further enraged by claims that Ratcliffe’s involvement will not lead to any kind of spending spree.
According to The Guardian, the Ineos businessman’s takeover will not change Man Utd’s ability to spend in the transfer market.
This was unwelcome news to fans on social media – who believe Ratcliffe’s investment will go straight to the Glazers.

One said: “We know that! It’ll go in the Glazers pockets.”
Another added: “Obviously, because that goes into the Glazers and the shareholders pockets who have never put a cent into the club.
“Also from day one it was made clear he would not be clearing debt.”
A third replied: “We’re so finished as a club.”

While a fourth responded: “Nothing will actually change tbh, 25 per cent share can’t take control of the major club issues.”
Man Utd spent nearly £180million in the summer window, bringing in high-profile names such as Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana.
But it has done little to improve Erik ten Hag’s side as they have lost four of their opening eight Premier League games.
United have also suffered defeats in their two Champions League matches against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray. More

Greenwood, 22, headed to LaLiga last month after bosses ruled he could not continue his career at Old Trafford following an investigation into his off-field behaviour.
The former England international was set to be welcomed back into the fold at United before SunSport exclusively reported the club had made a U-turn following a backlash from fans.
He was arrested in January last year following charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.
However, all charges were dropped in February by the Crown Prosecution Service.

A spokesperson said at that time: “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review.
“In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.
“In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case. We have explained our decision to all parties.
“We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met.”

Greenwood has made five appearances for Getafe thus far, scoring his first goal against Celta Vigo on October 8.
According to the Mirror, Sevilla are lining up a swoop for Greenwood – whose United contract expires in the summer of 2025.
The Red Devils are believed to still be paying the majority of his £75,000 a week wages.
Sevilla won last season’s Europa League, qualifying for this season’s Champions League in the process.
A source told SunSport, however, that Greenwood is hoping to stay at Getafe for the foreseeable future, saying: “The players and fans have all given him a welcome he could only have dreamed of.
“He really feared his career was over. Now he’s just so happy and  wants to carry on playing and not think too far ahead.” More

That offer will be discussed by the board this week after Sheikh Jassim pulled the plug on a £5bn total takeover.
Ratcliffe is increasingly confident of securing what he hopes will be the first stage of an eventual buyout.
Old Trafford legend Gary Neville yesterday asked 16 questions relating to Ratcliffe’s proposed stake.
While the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust have accused club owners the Glazer family of making decisions that focus on their own priorities rather than the fans’.

However, if Ratcliffe takes charge of the sporting side, it may go some way to appeasing disgruntled supporters.
The preliminary arrangement would see the Glazers continue to run the club’s commercial operation.
Ratcliffe and his team are aware of the problems faced in redeveloping and possibly expanding a crumbling Old Trafford.
But they believe the top priority is to improve performances on the pitch.

Sheikh Jassim’s offer would have included cash to redevelop the facilities, fund an Old Trafford rebuild and clear the existing debt.
This clears the way for Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is set to buy a 25 per cent stake in the club for £1.4bn with the Glazer family still at the helm after the Qatari bid formally pulled out on Saturday.
Sheikh Jassim accused United’s owners of demanding an “outlandish” price to sell the club.
The Red Devils’ chiefs are set to sign off on Ratcliffe’s investment at a board meeting this coming week and the INEOS founder will have control over the football side of things.

According to Bild, that will cost Ten Hag some major transfer reinforcement.
That is because Sheikh Jassim was planning to bring Kylian Mbappe, Kingsley Coman and Eduardo Camavinga to Old Trafford.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe will become a free agent in June and looks set to join Real Madrid.
However, the Qatari banker was planning to put his billions to good use and steal Mbappe from under Real’s nose.

The Sheikh was determined to do the same with the star striker’s France team-mates.
Coman and Camavinga have a contract with Bayern Munich and Real respectively until 2027.
Camavinga was previously targeted by United when he still played for Rennes.
And it now seems like the midfielder will play a key role in Los Blancos’ future with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric stepping aside due to their advanced age. More

Jadon Sancho ‘thrown Champions League lifeline’ if Man Utd willing to accept cut-price deal

JADON SANCHO has been handed a career lifeline to end his Manchester United hell, according to reports.Champions League giants Barcelona are considering a summer move for the winger – if the Red Devils accept a cut-price deal.

Sancho, 23, is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford after falling out with Erik ten Hag.
The pair clashed after United’s boss claimed Sancho’s training performances were not up to standard when he dropped him for the defeat to Arsenal.
The England international subsequently refuted his manager’s claim, effectively accusing him of lying, and said he’d been made a “scapegoat”.
The 23-year-old has since been banished from first-team training, after refusing to apologise.

But Sancho could now be thrown a lifeline by Barca.
According to SPORT, the La Liga champions appreciate Sancho’s quality, but financial constraints mean United will face a significant loss.
Despite not being at his best, Sancho’s 86 goals and 81 assistances for Dortmund show his quality in European football.
United are trying to find a solution so as not to lose the money invested in his £73m signing.

The Red Devils know they will end up taking a financial hit, but he is so far out of the picture that it now looks the only option.
A loan deal might be the only viable route for Sancho to revalue himself to potential suitors.
Sancho would have to reduce his astonishing £350,000-per-week salary significantly to be able to play at the Camp Nou.
Juventus are also said to only be interested in a six-month loan move in the January window.
They hope United will agree to paying half of Sancho’s wages if he goes, knowing the Reds are keen to put him in the shop window. More

The Gunners are among the midfielder’s suitors but face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United as well as Barcelona.
According to SPORT, however, the North Londoners are currently heading the race for the Belgium international’s signature.

Barca are also keeping tabs on Vermeeren in their bid to find someone to continue club legend Iniesta’s work in the middle of the park at the Nou Camp.
However, the Blaugrana have been marred by financial trouble and could instead turn to Corinthians ace Gabriel Moscardo.

Harry Maguire has finally snapped over Man Utd snub.. but maybe he thinks he can last longer at club than Erik ten Hag

HARRY MAGUIRE, it appears, has finally grown sick of getting splinters in his backside. Finally cracked, after months of keeping his head down and working his nuts off to try and reclaim a regular place in Manchester United’s wafer-thin defence.
Manchester United ace Harry Maguire snapped about the lack of minutesCredit: Alamy
Finally his frustration has replaced the silent fortitude which won him such respect for the dignified way he battled to reignite his career.
Unfortunately for Harry, the one thing it didn’t win was the favour of Erik ten Hag. As the months passed, it became more obvious it was never going to.
Which brought us to that media conference ahead of England’s what’s-the-point friendly against Australia on Friday, when Maguire admitted enough is enough.
If he continues to play no more than a cameo role for the club, he told us, then it may well be time to look for another.
    Read More on Man Utd
All very understandable, of course. Horses for courses and all that, and Maguire clearly doesn’t suit the Ten Hag stable.
Yet as he sat there, some questions nagged away . . . Why now, Harry? What’s changed? Wasn’t summer the ideal opportunity for all this?
It’s not as if he has only just slipped into the wilderness. He went into this season knowing he was fourth-choice centre-back — at best.
Maguire isn’t stupid, he’s been in the game at the highest level for long enough. He knows where he  features in Ten Hag’s thinking.
    Most read in Football
Last season told him that, when he began only eight Premier League games. Moving left-back Luke Shaw to the middle was a more attractive option for the manager.
So what made him think he was suddenly about to turn into a  regular? Two Prem starts prove he won’t. Had it not been for injuries, he might still be awaiting his first.
Last week was one of them, and you couldn’t disguise the irony of him being United’s best defender against Brentford, for all it was a pretty low bar.
It was Maguire’s flick which teed up Scott McTominay for the 97th-minute winner. Two men Ten Hag has  frozen out ended up saving his skin.

Maguire has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester UnitedCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
It was almost unbelievable . . . just like the idea he hasn’t already had plenty of meetings with the United manager to discuss his future.
Which brings us back to why he suddenly feels the need to mention moving now. If he is worried about it affecting his England chances, surely he was in the summer.
A summer, remember, when he could have joined West Ham had a deal gone through.
The Hammers were keen, Ten Hag would have all but driven him there himself, yet the apparent stumbling block was the size of the pay-off Maguire demanded.
There were those on the London side of the proposed transfer, though, who had doubts about whether Harry was ever really that keen on joining them at all.
He would clearly have preferred a move to Newcastle or Tottenham, that’s hardly a shock, but neither was interested.
Maguire may think he can last longer than Ten Hag at Manchester UnitedCredit: Alamy
So he stayed put, that pay-off stalemate actually providing a handy and eminently plausible excuse.
Yet there is another, more  devilish, thought over why he wasn’t in a great rush to leave which springs to mind here. The next couple of months will not only show whether Maguire is going to become a regular name on the teamsheet, they will also decide much about United’s season.
With no points from two Champions League games, it will be a brief return to Europe’s top table should things not pick up.
With Newcastle in the Last 16, the Old Trafford club’s defence of the Carabao Cup may be a brief one.
And with City, Chelsea, the Toon and Liverpool on the horizon for a team which went into the international break in tenth, United may soon only have a distant view of the top four.
Had they not pulled it out of the fire against Brentford last week, there was no danger Ten Hag’s job would have been under threat. But, make no mistake, the inquests wouldn’t have been far away.
Maguire is still being called up for England action by Gareth SouthgateCredit: Getty
So perhaps, just perhaps, Maguire — who has shown plenty of patience thus far — is happy to play the long game.
Perhaps, just perhaps, he believes if he sits tight, he could actually end up outlasting his manager in Manchester.
You couldn’t blame him for thinking so.
    CITY WEAK TO FORGET
MANCHESTER CITY have lost two league games in a row for the first time in five years, so it is ludicrous to mention the word “crisis”.
It is still far from that, and says much about the standards City set for anyone to even whisper as much.
They will bounce back and remain favourites to make it four titles in a row.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola can’t afford more injuriesCredit: Reuters
But what is hard to get away from is the feeling Pep Guardiola’s  Treble winners are a weaker unit than 12 months ago.
Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez have gone while Kevin De Bruyne remains injured.
They have depth to cope  and are far from weak — but most definitely weaker.
And Guardiola will be sweating rather more than normal this time should any others join the casualty list.
    SQUEAKY BRUM TIME
OF all the stars to emerge over the last 20 years, few have shone quite as brightly as Wayne Rooney.
Manchester United’s 253-goal all-time top scorer, a setter of milestones, smasher of records and a genuine great.
Wayne Rooney is facing his biggest managerial challenge at Birmingham CityCredit: Getty
Sacking John Eustace and replacing him with Rooney was certainly a bold move by Birmingham City.
Yet it is perhaps an even bolder one by the new boss.
Rooney did a fair job in impossible circumstances at Derby. He could not say the same after 15 months in the MLS with DC United.
Now he inherits a team punching above their weight, not one in freefall. Taking Birmingham into the play-offs is the minimum demand.
Succeed and the next step is upwards. But flop and the only way is down. Make no mistake, the pressure is on.
    RAM JAM
AARON RAMSDALE was  Arsenal’s No 1 a month ago with hopes of being the same for England. Now he is on the bench for both.
Mikel Arteta’s bizarre claim he would chop and change with David Raya always looked dubious. The truth is Ramsdale’s chances of being England’s top dog have been stiffed by his boss.
