The Red Devils think that they are falling short in that department compared to neighbours Manchester City and Prem rivals Chelsea.
But outsourcing rather than using their own people to discover someone suitable is a surprise move.
The first stage of the interview process is also different.
Candidates are interviewed via a computer before their answers are analysed.

It comes after Sir Jim Ratcliffe made his first major power play at United by axing the club’s chief executive Richard Arnold.
Ineos supremo Ratcliffe is set to take control of 25 per cent of the Red Devils for £1.3billion from loathed US owners the Glazers.
And his first move was to get rid of Arnold, who has spent 16 years at Old Trafford and took over from Ed Woodward as CEO last year.
Former Juventus chief executive Jean-Claude Blanc, Ineos’ Sport CEO, has emerged as one of the favourites to take the role.

Pogba also returned a second positive sample and now faces a lengthy ban which could see the end of his career at top level.
The star midfielder will face an anti-doping tribunal, and if found guilty, the 30-year-old could be banned for up to four years.
According to Foot Mercato, Juventus are thinking ahead and that is why they held a meeting with Partey as well as his agents to discuss a potential move in the winter market.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been deprived of the midfielder throughout the season following another string of injuries that have limited him to a mere five appearances across all competitions.

The Ghana international played a big part in the Gunners’ push for the Premier League title last term but it seems like Arteta is planning for life without him after the arrival of Declan Rice last summer.
However, Partey is not the only player Juventus are looking to sign in the New Year.
The Bianconeri are also looking to complete a deal for Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi and Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski.
And Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri wants club chiefs to move quickly.

The Serie A giants have also been linked with a shock swoop for Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho.
United appear open to letting Sancho go after his public spat with manager Erik ten Hag in September saw him being axed from the first team.
However, the Red Devils have refused to talk with the Italians about a possible loan deal as Ten Hag’s side prefers to sell the winger outright. More

Armas was regularly spotted with a pair of AirPods in his earsCredit: PA
The American coach was cruelly dubbed ‘Ted Lasso’ during his stint as the assistant manager to Ralf Rangnick in the 2021-22 season.
Manchester United’s stars were left frustrated by Rangnick’s apparently “old fashioned” approach to managing and the fact that he left most of the coaching to Armas.
The coach cut a distinctive figure thanks to the fact he always had a pair of Apple AirPods in his ears while on the bench – something he used to communicate with fellow coach Ewan Sharp.
After leaving Manchester United along with Rangnick in 2022, Armas had a brief stint at Leeds under Jesse Marsch’s stewardship.

Armas took over from Marsch at the New York Red Bulls in 2018 in his job in football as a manager.
He won the MLS supporters shield trophy with the team and had a record of 33 wins, 27 draws and 11 defeats.
His only other job as a manager came when he was coach of Toronto FC in 2021 – but he was let go after just 11 matches.
His new side, The Colorado Rapids finished bottom of the MLS Western Conference last season.

The Rapids parted ways with former coach Robin Fraser in September.

Armas also made 66 appearances for the US national team between 1998 and 2005. More

According to German outlet BILD, Man Utd are keen on the prospect of signing him.
The Red Devils initially considered a move for Lukeba earlier this year but did not submit a bid.
RB Leipzig then went on to secure his signature but United officials have continued to monitor the midfielder.
Erik ten Hag and his team have been impressed with Lukeba’s rapid development in recent months, with scouts relaying several positive reports.

The prospect of signing the young midfielder has excited many Man Utd fans, with one person tweeting: “The guy is so fantastic I have watched him several times.”

While a third said: “Wouldn’t believe it if I saw him in our shirt, too good of a signing.”

However, chief executive Richard Arnold is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, with director of football John Murtough expected to follow.
That will pave the way for Sir Jim Ratcliffe – who is set to purchase a 25 per cent stake in Man Utd – to bring in new people for the jobs.
Ten Hag is understood to be eager to bolster his squad in January and at the end of the season.
The Red Devils have already been linked with a move for both Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana and Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic.
A new defender is understood to be high on Ten Hag’s priority list, with Raphael Varane falling down the pecking order. More

And a new midfielder is understood to be on his list of priorities.
The Red Devils signed Mason Mount in a huge £60million transfer from Chelsea in July, but the 24-year-old has been limited to just four Premier League starts so far this season due to injury.
Sofyan Amrabat, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo and academy star Kobbie Mainoo have also been hit with injuries since the start of the season, while Donny van de Beek remains out of favour.
Ten Hag is now on the hunt for a new midfielder to add to his ranks.

Outcast Donny van de Beek may also move on, while United are at risk of losing seven players whose contracts expire in the summer.
That is because foreign clubs will be able to approach them for talks over a free agent move.
Some have played a key role for Ten Hag this season while others are youngsters with exciting futures.
Here, SunSport takes a look at seven who could leave Old Trafford on free transfers.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
    Aaron Wan-Bissaka – £22m
Wan-Bissaka signed a five-year deal when he joined the club in 2019.
He initially lost his place under Ten Hag but impressed when he came back into the side and would likely have been a regular this season if not for injury.
The right-back, 25, was bought for £50million so losing him on a free would be a big blow – but the Red Devils could trigger his one-year contract extension.

    Victor Lindelof – £16m
The Swede, 29, has unexpectedly been given an ever-present role this season because of injures to Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw.

Lindelof scored the winner against Luton at the weekend and there will be no shortage of interest in the centre-back, who has been linked to Inter Milan.

    Anthony Martial – £13m
French striker, 27, has had a disastrous few years at United and has failed to live up to expectations following his £45m switch from Monaco.
Martial was loaned out to Sevilla in 2021 but worked his way back into Ten Hag’s plans – only to get injured.
Fitness problems have limited the forward’s game time and the club might be happy to let him leave for nothing to get his £250,000-a-week salary off the wage bill.

    Hannibal Mejbri – £10m
Highly-rated youngster has broken into the first-team under Ten Hag after United fought off interest in the summer to keep him.
Borussia Dortmund are understood to have made an offer, as did Luton, so United may have to work hard to fend off suitors when the transfer window re-opens.

    Alvaro Fernandez – £6m
The young left-back is on loan at Granada until the end of the season so United may not back a decision on his future until next summer.
In the mean time clubs in his native Spain could try and make an approach for the 20-year-old, who made 39 appearances on loan at Preston last season.

    Jonny Evans – £2m
Veteran centre-back, 35, returned on a free transfer in the summer following eight years away.
He has made eight appearances but is a back up and United may be happy to let him leave in the summer.

Foreign clubs will be able to speak to the United stars about a transfer in January
    Tom Heaton – £400k
The third-choice goalkeeper was signed in 2021 but has made just three appearances for United.
However Ten Hag may be keen to keep Heaton, 37, as he is considered to be one of the key leaders in the squad.

SunSport understands Ratcliffe is set to make sweeping changes to the structure of the club following years of turmoil.
Ratcliffe is keen on appointing a sporting director to assist manager Erik ten Hag in turning around the club’s fortunes.
And, according to reports, legendary defender Maldini is on his shortlist of candidates for the role.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim Maldini’s former partner in crime at AC Milan Ricky Massara is also in consideration for the job as well as Atalanta’s Lee Congerton and Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Both Maldini and Massara are free agents having been given their marching orders by the Rosseneiri in June following a dispute with owner Gerry Cardinale.
Maldini – who is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time – did have success in the role for his former side, playing an instrumental role in signing Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea.

A current Premier League sporting director is also in the running for the job.
Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman is understood to be one of the standout candidates for the role following his recent success at Selhurst Park.

And he could be in with a real chance of getting the gig as Sir Alex Ferguson – who Ratcliffe will take advice from during the process – is a big admirer of him.
Freedman’s body of work at Selhurst Park speaks for itself, with his signings of Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and loan move Conor Gallagher paying dividends for the Eagles.
Former Red Devils boss Ferguson knows Freedman well having allowed him to spend time with him in his office when he was manager of Palace.
Huge changes to the structure of United are expected once Ratcliffe’s acquisition of shares is confirmed.
But the billionaire’s restructuring is already taking shape, despite him only having one foot in the door.
Richard Arnold left his role as club CEO, which he inherited from Ed Woodward, this week after ten years of service.
United will be back in action a week on Saturday, travelling to Goodison Park to take on Everton.
And the infrastructure of the club could look very different by the time Ten Hag’s troops take to the pitch.
