Good players like that don’t come around often and they certainly come around less often on a free transfer. Man Utd are lucky to be 7th as stats show they should be in RELEGATION BATTLE and Chelsea deserve Champions League

MANCHESTER UNITED are lucky not to be facing a relegation battle this season, according to new statistics. That’s after the Premier League table based on expected points was released.Manchester United should be battling relegation according to the expected points tableCredit: GettyThe total points were calculated by looking at all results this season based on xG by data company Stats Perform. And anyone that has watched United give up shots for fun and struggle to create chances in recent games won’t be surprised to see them so far down the table. The table has them in 15th, with only Wolves and Crystal Palace separating them from the relegation zone. The miserable statistics will make for damning reading for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS as they look to decide on Erik ten Hag’s future.READ MORE FOOTBALLThe manager is feeling the pressure following a difficult second season and stormed out of his last press conference. The Dutchman objected to questions about where United will finish, with the team currently on course for their worst finish in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. He’s also experiencing more player unrest, after Alejandro Garnacho liked posts which publicly criticised his manager on X.SunSport exclusively reported earlier this month that the club have already sounded out Graham Potter as a potential replacement for Ten Hag, with INEOS being a long-term fan of the former Brighton man. Most read in FootballThe table suggests United are massively over performing this seasonCredit: SunSportCASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERSThe projected points table makes for far better reading for Chelsea fans, however. If the Blues had finished according to their xG, they would be inside the top four, ahead of Newcastle on goal difference.Watch Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag storm out of press conference after Bournemouth drawPerhaps yesterday’s 6-0 win over Everton was an indication of what could be to come if Chelsea do actually start converting their chances. It also has Arsenal leading the title race by two points ahead of nearest rivals Manchester City. The disparity between where Arsenal could be and where they are could be explained by the club’s reluctance to buy a striker in the January window.Newcastle, who could be on a late charge for a potential fifth Champions League place after thrashing Spurs 4-0, would be in fifth on expected points if they had converted as well as they did on Saturday. The table also shows how much Brentford have missed Ivan Toney, with the club eighth on expected points. In reality they are 15th, and have only recently begun to pull away from the relegation strugglers. An important distinction to make is that the table does not include points deductions for Everton and Nottingham Forest – who would still be safe if their xG had been converted into actual goals.Tuchel showed why he could be the perfect man for Man Utd, says Andy DillonBy Andy Dillon
TOMMY TUCHEL could not have done it better had he submitted his CV to LinkedIn or Indeed.
Somehow mustering some gumption from the worst Bayern Munich team in more than a decade to stop a rampant Arsenal dead in their tracks is a spectacular job advert for a manager soon to be looking for work.
If Sir Jim Ratcliffe wasn’t watching from his Old Trafford office or from the cinema room in one of his tax havens, he should have been.
They may have even sat up and taken notice in Newcastle or in the owners’ Riyadh hub as Tuchel reminded everyone of his credentials as a top-level coach with devilish timing.
If change is coming then Tuchel is playing a trump card.
His side turned up and cowed the team that, as far as the current Premier League goes, is the best in England.
It may only add to the questions around Tuchel that after tossing away the only league easier to win than Scotland’s or Spain’s, Munich have sprung to life in Europe.
After 11 years unopposed as German champions, Chelsea’s former manager has chucked it in at home in a remarkable act of ineptitude. But freak years can happen.
Tuchel is an enigma. But that is part of the appeal as much as winning the Champions League with Chelsea just three months after taking the job.
With no new signings, he took a team that had lost five of the previous ten games and turned them into European Champions.
With Ratcliffe considering swingeing budget cuts at Old Trafford, a coach who can perform wonders on peanuts would be music to his ears.

Mikel Arteta ‘in talks’ with Man Utd cult hero and ex-team-mate about becoming Arsenal assistant manager next season

I wouldn’t, no.”I think everybody needs to feel that there is a path, there is a development plan for everyone. “People don’t want to do the same thing for three, four, five years and there is a way to incentivise people, to inspire other people, and then to explore.”You don’t really know the limit of a person unless you expose him to certain things. I think curiosity is a really important quality that we have within our young staff.”How Arteta made Arsenal horrible again, with Tony Pulis tactic and gentle star turned into Diego Costa-style hate figureBy Dave Kidd
    BOTTLERS, chokers, shandy-drinking southern softies.
These were the charges levelled at Arsenal when they blew the title last season.
And even if the actual reason they failed was because William Saliba got injured and Rob Holding had to start, Mikel Arteta clearly took those accusations to heart.
If his team are not crowned champions next month, the Gunners boss has categorically ensured that they won’t go down being accused of nicey-niceyness.
Because, as well as being thrillingly entertaining and free-scoring when they want to be, this season’s Arsenal are also thoroughly horrible. They are not here to make friends. They are not interested in being anybody’s second-favourite team.
And so, six days after stink-bombing the Etihad with a display of Mourinho-esque anti-football for a 0-0 draw, Arsenal turned up at the home of former bogey-team Brighton and s***housed their way to a thoroughly impressive 3-0 win.
How wonderful for the travelling Gooners to witness Ben White — against his former club — going down as if he’d taken a bullet to his neck when Brighton’s Pervis Estupinan brushed against him.
White is renowned as a gentle and decent bloke, intelligent enough to challenge the zeitgeist and claim there might be things in life other than football.
And yet suddenly he’s become some Diego Costa-style anti-hero hate figure, his wife goading the masses by posting social-media pictures of them playing a childish card game on a sun lounger after he’d refused an international call-up.
Because Arsenal are horrible again. Even Ben White is a villain. And that might just be Arteta’s greatest triumph.

But sometimes you do have to make decisions, that may not be popular,” Ten Hag meanwhile has said he has “no doubts” he will serve a third season as United manager. It doesn’t appear to be a happy camp at United, with Alejandro Garnacho becoming the latest player to publicly criticise Erik ten Hag on social media. Most read in FootballCASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERSGarnacho liked a series of tweets by United YouTube personality Mark Goldbridge accusing Ten Hag of running “scared” of “bigger earners” and throwing Garnacho “under a bus” after a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.Jadon Sancho found himself exiled last September for a similar move and now plays his football on loan at Borussia Dortmund.Gary Neville reveals telltale signs Erik ten Hag is suffering Man Utd ‘breakdown’ as winless run goes onGarnacho has since unliked the tweets.SunSport exclusively reported last week that Graham Potter is in line to take over from Ten Hag at the end of the season having held talks with the club.Willy Kambwala wants to become rock at the back for Man Utd… but Erik ten Hag probably won’t be around to see itBy Ken Lawrence
ERIK TEN HAG insists he is still the right man to take Manchester United forward.
The Dutchman believes he can recapture their former glories, despite escaping for the second time in a row what could have been humiliation by Liverpool at the weekend.
And teen Willy Kambwala revealed his “passion” is to become a rock at the heart of United’s defence after making just his second start of the season against their bitter rivals.
United trailed 1-0 at half-time on Sunday but fought back to take a 2-1 lead before Mo Salah’s 84th-minute equaliser from the penalty spot.
Ten Hag was pleased with the second-half performance, declaring it “another signal and message for the future,” before adding, “the team and squad have high potential.”
Yet the Old Trafford chief sounds more and more like he has his finger stuck in a leaky dyke and does not think it is going to hold.
Comeback or not, United still threw away a lead for the third time in eight days following their 4-3 defeat to Chelsea and 1-1 draw with Brentford — both deep into injury time.
And his body language suggests he expects to be crossing it to go back to Holland with his P45 this summer
